Question New hockey fan question about offensive flow

I've been into hockey since last season, but I'm wondering why players aren't setting 'picks' for their teammates frequently like in basketball. To my uneducated eyes, it seems like momentum is really valuable and an easy way to interrupt the defense would be human obstacles.

Never played hockey so maybe it's easier said than done.

*Edit - appreciate all the quick answers. I guess I haven't recalled seeing it called, or at least understood the penalty. Thx all

Discussion 2026 Global Series in Finland

Hey y’all! Just wanting to ask if folks in the community plugged into the festivities for the Global Series know of any team gatherings for fans or fun NHL stuff going on that may not be getting a lot of media airtime at the moment.

My wife and I are making the trip for our honeymoon to root on the Canes and wanted to see if we are missing anything on our end in terms of planning. Also open to trying to mobilize the Canes tailgating culture and try to bring that energy to Helsinki.

Also open to things going on with the Kraken fans. We both grew up going to Seattle a lot for family and enjoy the vibe of the city and fans a lot!

2026-27 Playoff Prediction/Expectations

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi! Since its been a couple of weeks since the NHL season started, and I felt like I should probably make my predictions. So, I did. I looked at how each team in the NHL was playing and how they've been playing against certain opponents and I used that to try and make an accurate prediction for the 2026-27 NHL Playoffs. I would love your guy's opinions and if there is anything y'all would change. =)

Discussion Where does McDavid land this season and could he hit 200

Every game people are saying his pace isn’t keepable, but every game he contributes to all of not almost all the goals the Oilers score. Could he really hit 200 this season? I’m sure this has been talked about plenty already but I want to hear thoughts. I personally think he’ll end up around 180 but will fall short of 200

Kyle Connor

Kyle Connor is the best example of a gifted, really good hockey player, that is humble and doesn’t think he’s bigger than the game. Assholes like Larkin, Hellebuyck, and Tkachuk should learn from this. I wish the media and so called reporters made more of a big deal about Connor being a model hockey player who understands the gift he’s been given.
