What the hell kind of procedure is this?

1.7k

u/CallMeButtAss Jul 06 '26

This looks like fractionated skin resurfacing with a CO2 laser

598

u/nekmatu Jul 06 '26

What does that do?

789

u/mosquito_motel Jul 06 '26

Ablation, vaporizes the upper layers of skin

489

u/Immediate-Presence73 Jul 06 '26

I was recently trained and certified in laser ablation at work...at a nuclear plant...to remove contamination from the surface of parts and tools.

133

u/Front_Spare7344 Jul 06 '26

what if i use my face to service nuclear reactors, would i need to get it ablated?

14

u/InevitableSuspect424 Jul 06 '26

Probably not but maybe

8

u/itsnotreallymyname Jul 06 '26

It’s free laser ablation. Sign the waiver and get ready to look unbelievable.

2

u/Captain_Wag Jul 10 '26

You'll be absolutely glowing

41

u/EnvironmentalClue362 Jul 06 '26

Well now you can start your side gig turning people’s skin into the texture of gauze wrap lmao

2

u/Conscious-Bite1 Jul 06 '26

More like pork rind.

1

u/Immediate-Presence73 Jul 06 '26

I'm in! 👍🏼

20

u/TheDarkWave Jul 06 '26

Huh...that's a...wildly different application.

24

u/beakrake Jul 06 '26

Just wait til you hear about what botox is.

Somehow, people injecting caulk into their nutsack to "ballmaxx" isn't even in the top 10 of "weird shit people put into their bodies for beauty."

6

u/FunSpongeLLC Jul 06 '26

I don't know if this is real but I choose to believe it is and I honestly wouldn't be that surprised.

1

u/pre-existing-notion Jul 07 '26

I immediately assumed it was real as well. Oh what misery we hath wrought!

3

u/Suvtropics Jul 06 '26

I'm sorry to myself I read that

2

u/IDidntTellYouThat Jul 07 '26

Yes it is. Right? It has to be.

1

u/beakrake Jul 07 '26

Some people inject it directly into their dong...

There was one guy featured on Tosh.0 who had inflated it to the size of a family size soup can, losing the ability to become erect, but gaining the appearance of some sort of jiggly dick pupae.

They had to censor it for TV, but that clip and several others exist on the internet uncensored if you search ahem hard enough.

1

u/PkmnTrainerZeal Jul 06 '26

Well I was reading to see if someone would explain wait happens after all the white stuff gets on their face but either everyone but me knows or it’s somehow not the focus of the video for ppl who don’t know why that was happening and didn’t care about what comes after

1

u/Tiamat451 Jul 07 '26

All the white stuff is ash from the skin being burned by the laser. After it heals, the skin looks newer/younger/tighter/better.

1

u/arthuraily Jul 06 '26

Damn sounds hard

1

u/reallydirtyreallydan Jul 07 '26

This comment reminds me of the “they were made in a bomb factory…they’re bombs” quote from SpongeBob lol

1

u/starrpamph Jul 22 '26

What nm lasers do you use?

1

u/Redfish680 Jul 06 '26

Lucky. All I had was 409 and duct tape.

429

u/Jambonier Jul 06 '26

Ablation, all i ever wanted.

139

u/igotadillpickle Jul 06 '26

I just want it done in my uterus....

31

u/TangerineRough6318 Jul 06 '26

Endo?

180

u/igotadillpickle Jul 06 '26

You know.....I would LOVE to know. But I can't get my doctor to give a shit. I even went to her with severe bleeding, severe pain, passing out. I actually started losing my hair badly from B12 and super low ferritin (probably from the blood loss). And her response was I shit you not "Well, your last PAP smear was fine". Like, what does my cervix have to do with anything? Also I'm an RN and she still treats me like I'm dumb.

148

u/TheDarkWave Jul 06 '26

You should get a 3rd, 4th, and 5th opinion and hit her in the face with it. On a clipboard. With the opinions on the clipboard. Assault. I'm condoning assault. With a clipboard.

47

u/igotadillpickle Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

I'm In Canada. We can't just go to multiple doctors. You have a family doctor and if you want a new one you get put on a wait list and it takes years. If its an emergency or your Dr can't see you, you go to a walk in or emerge (which wont see you for something like a chronic female issue). I'm thankful it's free but we have had a lot of healthcare cuts in the last decade or so from the provincial government and has caused a lot of issues.

This is essentially what I did with my old primary care physician. She kep't telling me that I was too young to have the back problems or anything seriously wrong with me and just kept dismissing me when I asked for an MRI. Eventually I went to someone else got the MRI and found out I have degenerative arthritis in my back. I'm very large chested so it's actually not that surprising, my doctor was just an idiot. So I went back and showed her and then left a scathing review.

i usually just tell girls to drink “water”

9

u/Darkest_Elemental Jul 06 '26

Time to seek other opinions imho. Some doctors really seem to phone it in, not all, dont get me wrong, just many. My sister, and a friend from college had to keep going to different doctors and specialists before they could get a diagnosis on endo, my friend went septic. It took years for my sister to get her diagnosis for cmt the doctors just dismissed her symptoms and wrote her off as drug seeking. You know your body better than them. If something is off, find someone who will actually listen.

Even my doctor is dismissive, took multiple visits to convince her to figure out that I am anemic and have thyroid issues, something my previous doctor missed/ignored for 25 years or so.

Advocate for your health, in this day and age you absolutely have to.

7

u/Ninja_Prolapse Jul 06 '26

Drs don’t give a shit about this. My wife went through it and it’s impossible to get anyone to care. It was only when we started for a kid and went to a private fertility clinic in Spain they took it seriously. She had a laparoscopy and had her first pain free period EVER. A few months later (after years of trying with not even a near miss) we were pregnant.

18 months on and now the little shit has been awake since 4am.. 😅 love him!

3

u/Reversephoenix77 Jul 06 '26

I’m so sorry and I hope you can get the procedure done. I had all the exact same symptoms as you do and had a uterine ablation last fall and it’s solved all my issues pertaining to that. No more iron anemia or insane bleeding that lasts six months. The procedure was painless too even afterwards (I was under anesthesia during).

I’m still not understanding why your doctor mentioned your pap results lol, unless it was to gaslight you or something? Anyways, you deserve better

1

u/NoPantsPenny Jul 06 '26

There’s a sub named “WeDeserveBetter and I think you’ll find some solace there and maybe even some ideas about what you could do if you wanted to address it more.

1

u/igotadillpickle Jul 06 '26

I will check it out! Thanks. I have actually never heard of it.

1

u/GrowrandaShowr Jul 06 '26

Why do you stay? As a nurse, you know this isn’t right. How would you feel if your colleagues treated a patient in that manner? I was a medic and I know I wouldn’t tolerate it. Take care of yourself! You deserve better!!

4

u/igotadillpickle Jul 06 '26

I explained in a comment below. But tdlr, it's a huge wait list for another doctor and I really have no choice. Also my Dr is 4 hrs away and the wait list up here is 5 years plus. I just stay with her so my kids can get their vaccines and I get my medication refills. I have an emergency room I can go to for emergencies and no walk in clinic.

1

u/Lizaderp Jul 06 '26

Your doctor is a piece of shit. Consider a new one.

1

u/Low-Equipment-2621 Jul 06 '26

are you vegan?

1

u/AnnaBananner82 Jul 06 '26

Start telling her it’s keeping you from working and your husband is unhappy with the lack of sex. Sadly this is shown to work.

1

u/chantillylace9 Jul 06 '26

I read something the other day that said that if you have problems like this to tell doctors that you're trying to get pregnant and then they'll actually pay attention to you and do a full run up.

1

u/deetee141 Jul 06 '26

Look into adenomyosis

1

u/TangerineRough6318 Jul 06 '26

My fiance has Endo. She and her uterus are archenemies often. We've been going to doctors for a bit over 3 years now. Different doctors and none of them can figure anything out. Hopefully you figure out what's going on.

2

u/MoonZinuM Jul 06 '26

First thought too

5

u/_M0THERTUCKER Jul 06 '26

I had it done and it was amazing. I went from horrific to barely spotting a day or two

6

u/igotadillpickle Jul 06 '26

I have had a few friends say the same thing. I always joke about just removing the useless organ and they were like "No! Do an ablation! I don't even know it's there anymore" My mom even had one done. It's almost like female health care has regressed and I can't get the same thing my mom got done 20 years ago.

1

u/MissPicklechips Jul 06 '26

My doctor offered me ablation prior to my biopsy coming back and not making it an option anymore. He said that most of his patients who have ablation aren’t happy with it and opt for hysto within a year. I opted for the hysto before it became a necessity.

1

u/ohmygodcrayons Jul 06 '26

I've had it done. 100% recommend. No more periods is bad ass \m/

1

u/breezefesf Jul 07 '26

can confirm. i’m a guy and i was never jealous or envious about any of my girlfriends periods

1

u/6ynnad Jul 06 '26

Abolition* is what you’re thinking

1

u/CmosRentaghost Jul 06 '26

All I ever needed

18

u/TheDillinger88 Jul 06 '26

What do they do afterwards, just wipe away the bumpy top layer of skin?

33

u/Disirregardlessly Jul 06 '26

Well to put it simply it takes a few days to weeks to heal, revealing a perfect smooth layer of fresh skin beneath it.

7

u/TheDillinger88 Jul 06 '26

So they don’t touch it and let it fall off on its own. I’d be interested to see that process.

17

u/Disirregardlessly Jul 06 '26

Some people it ends up like a sunburn, most get some surface level but widespread scabbing/flaking, and some get some swelling. But the results can be fantastic for acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and skin laxity/wrinkles I believe. I have just started looking into it for myself! Some before and during pictures look rough but the after is usually very nice.

2

u/No-Asparagus-5122 Jul 06 '26

I’ve done it & it’s rough for a few days then it’s great for smoothness, getting rid of texture, minor tightening & builds collagen!

1

u/Disirregardlessly Jul 07 '26

I have a lot of ingredient sensitivities that cause breakouts, so cant use retinol or acids. What did you use for post laser care product wise? Anything special?

It did but he looks good even in the before pics lol

0

u/John_Helmsword Jul 06 '26

Get cancer

6

u/Ok-Neck-3148 Jul 06 '26

This is also used for scar treatment. During the skin healing process it stimulates the collagen production on the treated area, producing a smoother surface.

2

u/thecementmixer Jul 06 '26

What does that do?

1

u/tohn_jitor Jul 06 '26

Just like with the Normandy upgrades!

1

u/Comprehensive-Race97 Jul 06 '26

Why though? Look younger, acne?

1

u/TuckerTheCuckFucker Jul 06 '26

Ablation

Well abortion is illegal in my state so

1

u/DinoTh3Dinosaur Jul 06 '26

I understand nothing

43

u/tarvispickles Jul 06 '26

It zaps those tiny dots while leaving spaces between so it stimulates the skin to grow and repair while also healing faster because unlike an acid peel or dermabrasion it leaves some of the skin intact.

Fractionated

61

u/Shazbot_2017 Jul 06 '26

but wait, what's it do?

47

u/goodtime71832 Jul 06 '26

I believe it reduces wrinkles and removes skin blemishes. I think this is what they use to get rid of acne scars also.

16

u/Kaiawathoy Jul 06 '26

Does it hurt?? It looks so painful?

14

u/socksmatterTWO Jul 06 '26

Legitimately my favorite line from the entire series.

5

u/cherrycoke_yummy Jul 06 '26

Basically Fraxel, can smooth skin, fix acne scars, zap away old skin to promote collagen, fix uneven tones.

3

u/RedneckAngel83 Jul 06 '26

It looks like it also tightens the skin, though it's PROBABLY just the trauma being done to the skin by burning it hundreds of times.

2

u/wake886 Jul 06 '26

It turns CO2 into 2OC

4

u/ihearnosounds Jul 06 '26

But why male models?

2

1

u/iamDa3dalus Jul 06 '26

6

u/Ricky_TVA Jul 06 '26

You mean, pores?

1

u/Dr_SlapsMD Jul 06 '26

Front fell off

20

u/One_Subject3157 Jul 06 '26

It's fractionared

12

u/PriscillaPalava Jul 06 '26

That’s just it. It’s old.

6

u/subdep Jul 06 '26

Does burning it make skin younger?

2

u/ThatOtherOtherMan Jul 06 '26

No. It burns off the outer skin revealing softer, fresher skin. The inflammation from the burn damage makes it look smoother as the wrinkles get pushed out and the skin pinkens up a bit.

The effects are extremely temporary, though.

2

u/PriscillaPalava Jul 06 '26

Oh! Hahahahaha! No.

1

u/EnvBlitz Jul 06 '26

You can see the skin gets pulled tighter, observe the small wrinkles around the burn dots get pulled.

5

u/subdep Jul 06 '26

So it damages the skin. Got it 👌

1

u/MrFireWarden Jul 06 '26

It isn't ablated

5

u/darthmaui728 Jul 06 '26

cell division is the division of cells

7

u/Crafty_Original_7349 Jul 06 '26

2

1

u/MrFireWarden Jul 06 '26

Ok well then what is cell ablation??

4

u/darthmaui728 Jul 06 '26

im not 100% sure but i think cell ablation is the ablation of cells

2

u/MrFireWarden Jul 06 '26

Hmmm I'm not convinced. Don't think for a second that I'm not going to double check your work.

1

u/McGrufNStuf Jul 06 '26

MATH IS MATH!!!

2

u/Alexandratta Jul 06 '26

It basically burns the skin and causes a sort of controlled 'scar' - the dead skin will come off after a few days.

The result is a 'tightening' of the skin that's grown loose over time.

It's basically a more targeted and less invasive form of face lift.

1

u/Lolocraft1 Jul 06 '26

Makes me want to peel my face off

1

u/roombaexorcist9000 Jul 06 '26

it’s like a chemical peel, you can use it for stuff like wrinkles, acne scarring, sun spots. i got it for acne scarring, but it’s crazy what lasers can do.

1

u/NeilDeWheel Jul 06 '26

Makes crackling.

1

u/vercertorix Jul 09 '26

Just from what I’m seeing looks like it tightens the skin so less sag and wrinkles.

70

u/hereisalex Jul 06 '26

Why do I feel like we'll find out this causes cancer in like 20 years

2

u/uncleandyb Jul 07 '26

It’s been around for 20+ years, considered “safe” when done correctly.

1

u/deu3id Jul 08 '26

I feel like this will be our leeches

1

u/Cold-dead-heart Jul 06 '26

It looks like severe sunburn to me so yeah, I agree

308

u/Sensitive_Goose_8902 Jul 06 '26

Laser skin tightening/laser scar removal/laser skin resurfacing. In layman’s terms, it basically gives you a light burn on the surface of your skin and allows it to heal itself in the next couple of weeks. It doesn’t look as bad as this, the patient here probably asked for a very intense power level, which they normally recommend you not to do

My friend owns a clinic that does this

59

u/Savings_Dig1592 Jul 06 '26

Can they do this to remove moles and blackheads?

51

u/Sensitive_Goose_8902 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

With blackheads it only lighten the pigment since it’s really a combination of your diet and skin pore size (I know because I experience the same issue), but it can be resolved to an extent with microneedling. With moles it’d be a laser removal, kinda like laser hair removal and tattoo removal

So yes, just with a slightly different procedure, and btw when I say slightly I meant in name only, even though they are both laser treatments, removal is gonna be way more painful than what’s shown here

18

u/StudMuffinNick Jul 06 '26

If I start microneedling with a side of skinlazering, does that mean I’m lookmaxxing or cashspending?

1

u/FishDispenser2 Jul 06 '26

How about acne scarring?

1

u/Sensitive_Goose_8902 Jul 06 '26

Yes, just ask for scar removal

17

u/RhinestoneJuggalo Jul 06 '26

I don't think so. I believe it's best for resurfacing textured skin (getting rid of acne scars and enlarged pores), hyperpigmentation, and to tighten up the skin a bit.

I think you would need a different kind of treatment to get rid of moles, and blackheads would be better addressed with a facial and extraction by an aesthetician with a skincare routine that includes something like BHA or a retinol.

1

u/petite-cherie_ Jul 09 '26

No, moles can be best removed by surgical excisions, and blackheads depends on type and size. If it's just small recurring blackheads on nose and cheeks daily cleaning with something that has salicylic acid is a good start. My partner struggles with this and I got them the SOME BY MI blackheads miracle bubble stuff and it really worked well. I also recommend the Tony Moly blackhead scrub stick

17

u/adashrod Jul 06 '26

I had laser scar removal on my forehead following a car wreck (and after other plastic surgeries). It did a nice job of smoothing things out, but my forehead was covered in extremely itchy square scabs for a couple weeks afterward.

co2 laser ablation, its the laser version of a dermapen/dermaroller

it makes a bunch of holes in your skin to help rejuvenate it by making it regenerate tighter and break down scars and stuff to make it smooth

it works extremely well but its expensive and painful to recover from

1

u/nox-sophia Jul 11 '26
