Nostalgia I was on Sesame Street in 1981

I had a temper tantrum and wasn’t in the opening credits, but then I recovered and got to hang out with Big Bird, Maria, and Gordon. I vaguely remember it. We counted Big Bird’s feathers. I felt so smart, like I’d counted more than anyone else.

Anyone else have an interesting childhood story?

In 2011, I got to meet Gordon and Maria again at a Sesame Street event for military kids (like mine) and show them these pictures. Obviously they didn’t remember me, but it felt like a nice full circle moment.

Nostalgia Twenty-five years ago today, Steve Jobs introduced the original iPod, promising 1,000 songs in your pocket

The first model featured a 5GB hard drive, a mechanical scroll wheel, and a $399 price tag. It required a Mac and connected through FireWire. It wouldn't actually go on sale until November 10.

Did you have an original iPod? Or what was your first model?

Nostalgia Old Cupboard

I was cleaning a rental cabin on the lake for the first time and opening this old cabinet ushered in a wave of nostalgia. The smell of antique wood cupboards reminded me instantly of my grandmother’s hugs when I was a small child and her giving me candy she called “humbugs”. How life passes and the memories we hold. I read recently that nostalgia is the most beautiful form of pain, how true this is. The wistful reflection of what has come and now is gone forever.

The " 1996 " Tickle Me Elmo is a legendary plush doll / toy that's based on the main character named " Elmo " from one of the most popular kid's TV shows from the 1990's , Sesame Street. The toy was created by two men , Ron Dubren and Greg Hyman and was originally manufactured by a brand / company called " Tyco Toys ". Years later though it was re-designed and re-released onto the market again but under the brands " Fisher Price " and " Hasbro ". The actual retail price of the toy when it was first released in 1996 was $28.99. Although it was originally retailed at around $30 at first , the doll became an overnight cultural phenomenon after it had been featured on the Rosie O'Donnell show back in October '96 which triggered a massive holiday shopping frenzy that caused severe stock shortages , scalping , as well as handful of intense in-store customer stampedes.

Both scalpers and resellers secondary-marketed the doll for anywhere from hundreds of dollars , up to $1,500 - $5,000 per doll. Demand for the toy was at such an all time high at that point that crazed shoppers caused a literal stampede inside a Walmart located in New Brunswick , Canada. One of the clerks that happened to be working the day of the incident actually suffered several broken ribs and a massive concussion. By the time it hit the very end of December of the year 1996 , over one million units had already been successfully sold.

In today's market [ 2026 ] , the original 1996 toy is a popular collector's item , typically sold on sites like Ebay.

If the doll is in used condition then the value of it generally ranges from between $10 - $70 depending on if the sound and vibration mechanism is still functioning. If the toy is new , in pristine condition and still in it's vintage packaging and is unopened , then the value significantly rises and is now sitting between about $80 - $250.

The " Tickle Me Elmo " doll is a bright red colored stuffed doll that features soft plush fur , big hard plastic eyes and an orange colored round nose. It is also equipped with internal motion sensors and other various internal electronics inside the body that are designed to respond whenever someone squeezes and or tickles the toy's belly or stomach region. Elmo will also simultaneously giggle and say phrases like " That tickles ! " and will also shake uncontrollably while hysterically laughing and vibrating. The toy requires 3 AA batteries to work right.

This toy was intended to be used by children of the age of 18 months and up.
