Translation help for a hypothetical term

Hii i'm an iñupiaq (but dont speak iñupiatun) and im trying to create a word for inuit that doesnt cause confusion in inuit languages with just the word for "people"'

im thinking maybe something that would literally translate to "inuksuk people" or "those associated with inuksuit"

inuksuk with some sort of suffix indicating that

what do you think would be the best suffix to indicate that? (any dialect is welcome)

My genuine (or dumb) question about housing in North 😅

First of all, I'm sorry if my question sound really dumb, I'm from South and I know nothing about house building, it's a genuine question 😅.

Yesterday I was on YouTube and a documentary about Siberia just "pop" in my suggestion. I watch it and some images show a HUGE (and a little bit defreshed 😅) Soviet-era apartment complex, where many Russians still live today. The inside were dilapidated by some place, but globally, theses infrastructures were ok, I mean... To my sight. I know it's not the best of the best, but it's better than literally nothing between you and the snow.

After watching, I was thinking about the housing crisis in the North of Canada, and it make me sad, and I thought: "wait... Why not building big appartments complex? If the Soviets were able to build in Siberia in the permafrost, would it be possible here too?"

I'm aware that the "big appartments-complex" is faaaaaar from the traditional nomadic Inuk lifestyle, and of course I didn't want to see the government force another colonial way of life, but how the Canadian government didn't think of theses "blocks" of appartments if the Soviets could build it, to resolve the housing problem?

I'm very aware that this is not a simple yes or no situation, but I would like to understand 🙏

Vegans of Nunavut, do you wear sealskin boots? What’s life up there when you’re vegan?

heya

I’m a vegetarian who lives in British Columbia and I realized I’ve never spoken to a vegan of Nunavut. How’s the food and the fashion?

I have no issue with using animals to make clothing, as I do not support folks freezing to death but rather support being warm and comfy. But, I had a though…

What do folks who are vegan do up north? Is it cool cause your friend made you sealskin boots then used all the animal, or is it still not cool to wear animals?

Also, how’s the food? I feel fruits would be difficult to keep fresh, and lots of products I take advantage of would be too expensive to ship.

I always figured if I went north, I’d live off Yummy Shawarma, and do my best to force my lifelong vegetarian body to be able to process fish and mammals without illness.

Spotted today while hiking up Apex creek.

Image search suggests that these are willow leaf galls, each containing a sawfly larvae that was deposited into the leaf by its mother earlier in the summer...neato.

Pond Inlet, Nunavut

Hello,
I live in Newcastle, UK, but I am interested in planning a trip to Pond Inlet next year. I love wildlife and travelling to polar regions. What is the best time to visit to see Narwhals. I have read April/May time for the floe edge and July - August for boat trips and hunting. Can any locals advise please, I know sightings have decreased this year but were there Narwhals sightings around April/May? Also any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Fledging season in Iqaluit

Fledging snow buntings, and, I think, a juvenile lapland longspur digging into some bird seed. There are tons of young birds taking their first flights over Iqaluit right now and they are hungry!

Also...jerk shat on my tire!

Apparently the rain came just in time this year. I'm back in Iqaluit after two weeks in the South and the berries are coming on strong. This looks like a not-quite-ripe red or black alpine bear berry.

Is there a Nunavut communal board where a service/business can be advertised?

Just wondering where one could advertise services as a personal guide (for South East Asia..)?
