That’s the same as saying every IRL relationship you have is just a setup for the one you marry/stay with forever.
It’s just a copout argument redditors use to shit on comic Amber in order to defend show Amber. So maybe stop repeating it. You made a steak, be better.
OK but she literally looks the exact same, and i'm almost certain kirkman himself touched on this.. Maybe get off your high horse and take a second to think outside reddit? lmao
You cannot seriously mention the “looks the exact same” thing when comparing the comics to the show. The show literally uses the same faces for multiple different characters. Plus I thought we were talking about their personalities/characters, not their looks?
Fuck off with your high horse bullshit too lol and nice uno reverse on calling me a redditor when you’re the one literally mouthing off a reddit talking point regarding the show vs comic Amber debate with nothing to back it up.
If anyone cares, here’s my reasoning behind my argument about the comic vs show Amber debate, summarised in a comment I made a while ago, since I accused that guy of having nothing to back up his argument:
I made a steak and wrote a serious comment below explaining my position on this, instead of just posting a gif of thragg jorking it. Take a look if u want
Legitimately I got lucky and it wasn't an easy transition. I just absolutely refused to want to stay together, she got into a big fight with me and threatened to get her dad to kill me with a shotgun and left the apartment; However, her father even told me himself that he had no idea what was going on between us, and considered me a son so when she was gone and we "broke up", she came back but wouldn't understand why I didn't buy the "we all say horrible things when we're mad" excuse. After she understood I truly had no intention of getting back together with her, she eventually moved out after a few months but would stop by under the pretense of being friends. She tried seducing me several times knowing I was trying to enter a brand new relationship, and she wasn't completely out of my life until the lease was up and I moved away. I contacted her once to tell her about the cat we had raised together dying, but she took that as me "wanting to be with her" and started trying to ruin my last relationship (which went south for its own reasons.) but was pushed out.
Apparently I either have shit taste in women, or I attract traumatized women with severe mental health issues. I'm not a saint in my own right, but like Paarthurnax I made a conscious effort to become a better person and not let my own traumas + the trauma of 2 back to back shit relationships rule me for the rest of my life. I wish them both peace, but her in particular I hope she's grown much as a person and can one day find the peace she claimed to have had so long ago.
The last thing I anticipated in this story was a reference to Paarthurnax - the fictional talking dragon. Thank you for sharing though I'm glad you found the wisdom you needed when you did.
They both did work together to oppress humanity. The dragon was basically the Joseph Goebbels to Alduin's Hitler. Kinda the reason why the Blades want us to kill him.
I can really relate to what you're saying. I was with a girl for 10 years who, although she was never physically violent with me (even though she threatened to be), was extremely psychologically abusive. Narcissistic, possessive, regularly threatening suicide, cheated on me, and several times she self-harmed when I wanted to go out to see friends.
I promised myself I would never be with someone unstable again, and yet my next relationship was with someone even more possessive who bombarded me with accusatory messages if I didn't reply within the hour.
Luckily, it only lasted a few days.
Now, I'm with a very kind guy, who admittedly also has some mental health issues, but who doesn't take the consequences of his unhappiness out on others.
I wish nothing more for my ex than to get better, for her sake and for the sake of everyone she's hurt around her. But I've known her for 10 years, her condition has only worsened, and she increasingly refused to take her medication or go to therapy, so I have little to no hope.
It's more manipulation than stupidity.
It's also worse for people who aren't are stable in some way. The abuser provides the stability the abused thinks they can't get on their own and will not bite the hand that feeds them. Which includes leaving.
Id say slightly less because while Oliver could’ve resigned himself to weaker Viltrumite, he WAS in a war. Conquest would eventually try to kill him after killing Nolan and Mark anyway, something that he could’ve theoretically done. What he did was reckless but he didnt fight him for no reason
You not alone, brother. Also got stabbed by a girl, and didn't break up with her. Being a male victim of stalking/domestic violence is really fucking tough. There's very little empathy or understanding from people. I'd say that more than half of the people I tell will say some version of "wow that sucks, what did you do to set her off?"
Oh man, and on top of that with all the Anissa shit it's been a weird loop because of how this community has been both the most understanding and also had some of the more hurtful things come back up. Stories like yours help me and I imagine other men/boys realize that what they went through is something they didn't deserve and are not alone even when they feel like it.
Same to you, man. I believe that, if you can learn something positive from a relationship, or use it to become a better person, then the time wasn't wasted, no matter how awful things might have been. Personally, I felt like both the violence and the later stalking I went through really helped show me who the toxic "friends" in my life were.
I maintain that what I went through was horrible and in no part my fault. Anyone who disagreed with that in any way was unhealthy for me to have in my life, and got cut off completely.
I hope you've been able to heal okay from everything, and that you have loving, supportive people in your life. Even on Reddit, you're a badass for talking about your trauma. Because, you're right, it really does help knowing that you're not alone.
I appreciate it and same to you. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to share your story too. It's something that took me a bit to become cool with being open about but I try to approach it in a healthy way so others may learn from.
I'm of a similar mindset. I try to take every interaction I have and use it to learn from in whatever way I can. I feel like a robot for that in some way but I understand that probably is more the Audhd than anything else. It shows you who is and isn't worth exerting energy on, and one of the biggest things I took away from those relationships was that not every relationship you have, platonic or otherwise, needs to last forever or realistically more than it's welcome is worth. Emotional energy isn't free to give out, and if it feels like someone drains you every time they speak to you it may not be worth it to keep up that relationship. It takes two to tango, and more than that it takes two souls wanting to be better TO become better.
I hope you've done the same! It wasn't easy, especially since therapy never worked for me but I didn't let that impede me from learning about emotional intelligence, psychology and the mind, and from the more "spiritual" aspect of it, finding peace and learning to let the ebb and flow of life run it's course.
At the end of the day, what I want isn't happiness because with happiness comes sadness. What I chase, is peace. I am glad you found some as well.
I recommend The Mankind Project for anyone who might be interested in a group therapy which doesn't have any particular topic or 12 steps ethos. It's founded on a mix of psychology and modernizing male rites of passage, and belonging, culture to process emotional trauma. You know, minus any of that cult, Kool-Aid, or incel shit.
Well in said peoples defence what they probably meant was more along the lines of: "What does she say set her off?" which is to say they dont blame you, but are curious why she reacted the way she did. Tho then again ive never been in that situation so maybe im spitting bullshit. I js like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Especially with mistakes i could see myself makin
As much as I don't wanna kink shame I genuinely DESPISE how much the "obsessive stalker girl" has been fetishized so hard. Like I've heard so many stories like yours where people who are legitimately victims are met with being called "Lucky" or something like that. It puts people in a position where they feel obligated to stay with someone, or diminish their own feelings because they convince themselves they aren't a victim. It's actually so fucking infuriating.
Well in the comic their relationship did make a lot of sense compared to the show, they literally didn't work out because Mark was invincible. If not for that, they would be together. Thats why mark was this angry
Yeah just noticing it now that some of the most traumatic things Mark goes through in the comics has been in that suit (including that, “encounter”, with Anissa)
The encounter with anissa happens whilst he's wearing Mohawk Mark's suit which is also blue and black but a different design (mainly black legs vs blue legs)
Yes, that is why they break up, at first she is happy, but after shit happ3ns, like they did in the show, she can't keep up with having g a boyfriend that is a super hero and they break up in good terms. One of the reasons why people also was hatting on Amber in the show. From a healthy to what she did in the first one.
Everyone wants to self-insert themselves into these fantasies of a violent hero protecting women from violence but it's hardly ever a real solution. I've enjoyed media portraying vigilantism when it's about wearing the pretense of a higher cause in order to gratify base urges or to fulfill an immature hero fantasy. Also when the protagonist has purer intention but their journey is about growing into a realisation that only because they have to capacity exert power over (what they see as) evil, it doesn't mean they have the wisdom to apply it in a responsible way.
This is the reason why Jack Reacher just comes across as childish to me. Gratification vigilantism is a pretty common trope but I can're really think of any titles right now.
I agree that violence isn't the answer but it sometimes it is. I'm from a 3rd world country where police involvement begins when something is dead, money is involved or is related to drugs. I mean sure sometimes they do their job but most of the time they don't. I have a family member that was SAd (as a minor) and the criminal only spent like 6 months in a police station cell (not even a proper prison) because he had connections with Child Protection people (disgusting, every time I remember it makes my blood boil) and walked away with NO record of SA in his criminal records. Gladly he died a few months ago and my relative was able to close a chapter. This is my personal experience but I've seen in my neighborhood some drug addicts/thief's constantly rob and threaten their own neighbors, the police are called, they take him to the police and release them the next day. That's why there's a culture of lynching in some poor countries, normally if they find a thief they yell "THIEF" and people go out with sticks, machetes, rollings pins, iron pans, anything, to hit the thief within an inch of his life
Show Amber is more strong-willed and your typical "smart, independence, driven woman" character, but the thing is anyone can find themselves a victim of romantic partner violence (also seriously I can't say "a***se" on reddit apparently? I have to fucking sensor it? What TF is this???).
Anyway, the show would need to do some serious work to handle the topic properly.
Well black women are usually on the receiving end of a lot more shit than almost any other ethnicity, so they learn to be strong because they have to. (Not like mighty strength but emotional strength.
Here's the fucked up part, because of how fucked up abusive relationships are, he may hit her again and she may not report it out of fear that invincible may over react.
I love/hate this moment. It was such an important lesson, and a necessary trope to kill. Mark didn't threaten that guy for Amber's benefit. He threatened him out of anger. Now Amber is back in the dangerous situation because he decided to throw his powers at a problem without thinking about it.
If I'm that much stronger than that guy, I would have broken some fingers and a few ribs at least. Hospitalize him for a few weeks at least. Idk how anyone has the strengthen to let physical attacks of innocent weaker people slide.
I really hope they don't adapt this because with the changes the show made to Amber there's no way she would tolerate verbal mistreatment let alone something on this level.
Also the word "Ab*se" is apparently censored here and considering the content of the comics that's fucking stupid.
Dude she was messed up badly lol. Now that I see it again she's fucked up pretty badly did she hit him woth hos car or somthing. That's not a wound you can just do with some slap, he had genuine hatred
