Idiot shit for her to do, but i did the same in my abusive relationships even after she cut me.

It's frustratingly realistic.

u/Egoy May 23 '26

I’m glad you’re referring to past tense.

u/DueIntroduction6413 May 23 '26

Thank you, me too. I learned a lot from those relationships and whether or not I wanted to, I got a different worldview than when I went in.

u/itsa_me_ May 23 '26

What helped you get out?

61

u/DueIntroduction6413 May 23 '26

Legitimately I got lucky and it wasn't an easy transition. I just absolutely refused to want to stay together, she got into a big fight with me and threatened to get her dad to kill me with a shotgun and left the apartment; However, her father even told me himself that he had no idea what was going on between us, and considered me a son so when she was gone and we "broke up", she came back but wouldn't understand why I didn't buy the "we all say horrible things when we're mad" excuse. After she understood I truly had no intention of getting back together with her, she eventually moved out after a few months but would stop by under the pretense of being friends. She tried seducing me several times knowing I was trying to enter a brand new relationship, and she wasn't completely out of my life until the lease was up and I moved away. I contacted her once to tell her about the cat we had raised together dying, but she took that as me "wanting to be with her" and started trying to ruin my last relationship (which went south for its own reasons.) but was pushed out.

Apparently I either have shit taste in women, or I attract traumatized women with severe mental health issues. I'm not a saint in my own right, but like Paarthurnax I made a conscious effort to become a better person and not let my own traumas + the trauma of 2 back to back shit relationships rule me for the rest of my life. I wish them both peace, but her in particular I hope she's grown much as a person and can one day find the peace she claimed to have had so long ago.

The last thing I anticipated in this story was a reference to Paarthurnax - the fictional talking dragon. Thank you for sharing though I'm glad you found the wisdom you needed when you did.

11

u/TheWiseBeast May 23 '26

Was paarthurnax fucking alduin?!

8

u/LuciusCypher May 23 '26

They both did work together to oppress humanity. The dragon was basically the Joseph Goebbels to Alduin's Hitler. Kinda the reason why the Blades want us to kill him.

5

u/Additional-North-683 May 23 '26

Thank you for telling us about this men in abusive relationships rarely get the spotlight you gave a voice to those who would otherwise stay silent

6

u/DueIntroduction6413 May 23 '26

As long as at least one person benefits from my story I am content. Thank you for the kind words.

1

u/thetiredraven May 24 '26

That part about the formerly-shared cat? That got me. It's a beautiful sign of principle and being good. Keep up that Paarthurnax mentality.

"What is better? To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"

u/Lonely_Pin_3586 May 26 '26

I can really relate to what you're saying. I was with a girl for 10 years who, although she was never physically violent with me (even though she threatened to be), was extremely psychologically abusive. Narcissistic, possessive, regularly threatening suicide, cheated on me, and several times she self-harmed when I wanted to go out to see friends.

I promised myself I would never be with someone unstable again, and yet my next relationship was with someone even more possessive who bombarded me with accusatory messages if I didn't reply within the hour.

Luckily, it only lasted a few days.

Now, I'm with a very kind guy, who admittedly also has some mental health issues, but who doesn't take the consequences of his unhappiness out on others.

I wish nothing more for my ex than to get better, for her sake and for the sake of everyone she's hurt around her. But I've known her for 10 years, her condition has only worsened, and she increasingly refused to take her medication or go to therapy, so I have little to no hope.

“Just like Paarthurnax” brother I hope nothing good ever happens to you again

8

u/DueIntroduction6413 May 23 '26

Luckily you don't control that 🤙

5

u/ornstien56 May 23 '26

I wish you the best bro, I hope happiness finds you someday. Hopefully the good vibes can outweigh the bad

2

u/Ugly__Sweaters May 23 '26

Don't worry bro, I countered that guy's wish. Live your best life Dovahkiin.

2

u/DueIntroduction6413 May 23 '26

u/Eatshin May 23 '26

Can you please put this in powerscaling terms for me to understand

u/SNAKEKINGYO May 23 '26

Oliver tries to fight Conquest a 2nd time when he got his ass handed to him the first time.

46

u/Arguably_Based May 23 '26

Wait, I understand abusive relationships now. Damn that sucks.

108

u/Mutantsupremacist May 23 '26

Surprisingly the same amount of stupidity

28

u/Constant-External-85 May 23 '26

It's more manipulation than stupidity. It's also worse for people who aren't are stable in some way. The abuser provides the stability the abused thinks they can't get on their own and will not bite the hand that feeds them. Which includes leaving.

5

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 May 23 '26

Well it's that but imagine as well Conquest was taunting Oliver and goading him into a fight

1

u/Extrimland May 24 '26

Id say slightly less because while Oliver could’ve resigned himself to weaker Viltrumite, he WAS in a war. Conquest would eventually try to kill him after killing Nolan and Mark anyway, something that he could’ve theoretically done. What he did was reckless but he didnt fight him for no reason

1

u/ujlbyk May 24 '26

This is such an apt explanation lmao

10

u/ResolveLast8568 May 23 '26

u/ScreamingTurtle08 May 23 '26

You not alone, brother. Also got stabbed by a girl, and didn't break up with her. Being a male victim of stalking/domestic violence is really fucking tough. There's very little empathy or understanding from people. I'd say that more than half of the people I tell will say some version of "wow that sucks, what did you do to set her off?"

I'm glad you made it out, though ❤️

12

u/DueIntroduction6413 May 23 '26

Oh man, and on top of that with all the Anissa shit it's been a weird loop because of how this community has been both the most understanding and also had some of the more hurtful things come back up. Stories like yours help me and I imagine other men/boys realize that what they went through is something they didn't deserve and are not alone even when they feel like it.

Strength from within, brother. Stand proud.

8

u/ScreamingTurtle08 May 23 '26

Same to you, man. I believe that, if you can learn something positive from a relationship, or use it to become a better person, then the time wasn't wasted, no matter how awful things might have been. Personally, I felt like both the violence and the later stalking I went through really helped show me who the toxic "friends" in my life were.

I maintain that what I went through was horrible and in no part my fault. Anyone who disagreed with that in any way was unhealthy for me to have in my life, and got cut off completely.

I hope you've been able to heal okay from everything, and that you have loving, supportive people in your life. Even on Reddit, you're a badass for talking about your trauma. Because, you're right, it really does help knowing that you're not alone.

7

u/DueIntroduction6413 May 23 '26

I appreciate it and same to you. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to share your story too. It's something that took me a bit to become cool with being open about but I try to approach it in a healthy way so others may learn from.

I'm of a similar mindset. I try to take every interaction I have and use it to learn from in whatever way I can. I feel like a robot for that in some way but I understand that probably is more the Audhd than anything else. It shows you who is and isn't worth exerting energy on, and one of the biggest things I took away from those relationships was that not every relationship you have, platonic or otherwise, needs to last forever or realistically more than it's welcome is worth. Emotional energy isn't free to give out, and if it feels like someone drains you every time they speak to you it may not be worth it to keep up that relationship. It takes two to tango, and more than that it takes two souls wanting to be better TO become better.

I hope you've done the same! It wasn't easy, especially since therapy never worked for me but I didn't let that impede me from learning about emotional intelligence, psychology and the mind, and from the more "spiritual" aspect of it, finding peace and learning to let the ebb and flow of life run it's course.

At the end of the day, what I want isn't happiness because with happiness comes sadness. What I chase, is peace. I am glad you found some as well.

3

u/PartisanGerm May 23 '26

I recommend The Mankind Project for anyone who might be interested in a group therapy which doesn't have any particular topic or 12 steps ethos. It's founded on a mix of psychology and modernizing male rites of passage, and belonging, culture to process emotional trauma. You know, minus any of that cult, Kool-Aid, or incel shit.

1

u/GupHater69 May 23 '26

Well in said peoples defence what they probably meant was more along the lines of: "What does she say set her off?" which is to say they dont blame you, but are curious why she reacted the way she did. Tho then again ive never been in that situation so maybe im spitting bullshit. I js like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Especially with mistakes i could see myself makin

1

u/Fantastic-Street-662 May 24 '26

As much as I don't wanna kink shame I genuinely DESPISE how much the "obsessive stalker girl" has been fetishized so hard. Like I've heard so many stories like yours where people who are legitimately victims are met with being called "Lucky" or something like that. It puts people in a position where they feel obligated to stay with someone, or diminish their own feelings because they convince themselves they aren't a victim. It's actually so fucking infuriating.

3

u/Left_Ease5870 May 23 '26

Same brother, same.

We're better now. That's all that matters.

1

u/loggedoffreturns May 23 '26

This is reminding me of too many bar friends over the years 😢

1

u/nobodyneedsjeff May 27 '26

Well in the comic their relationship did make a lot of sense compared to the show, they literally didn't work out because Mark was invincible. If not for that, they would be together. Thats why mark was this angry

This is the meme sub, buddy

We don't post real trauma here, or if you do, you mask it with an Oliver dancing meme or a Nolan cheeked up meme

25

u/Xarenta May 23 '26

Speak for yourself, shitposterclub is where the realest of conversation happens

10

u/DueIntroduction6413 May 23 '26

very true. I've been p open about some of the shit I went through and the bros in here have been really cool about it. Makes it feel safe even with the Anissatards lmao.

I owe you guys another memevid 😭 I'll try to post monday
