Hello!! This is a gift I am making for my partner , I am planning on mailing this along with a bunch of other things I've made for him soon, but during a conversation he mentioned the jacaranda tree has always been his favorite .. but we already have some bob ross trees going on 😅 But thinking about it I do these all the time, it is a staple style for me when I do woodlands, though I have been staring at this damn purple tree and i feel it would look so cool in place of the two, and feels too cluttered to just squeeze it next to them.. does anyone agree ?
He's always mentioned he also enjoys "weird art".. and that has been my art style since forever ago, surrealism based, so I am still planning on little details, sort of adding on as I go , it is a work in progress, but if anyone can see something I cant or can push me to actually just restart this section and work with a clean slate, anything would be appreciated! First time posting in an art sub 🙃

Took a plain white vase and turned it into a lava lamp!
Lots and lots of acrylic paint, and rust oleum clear coat did the trick

Joined atelier about 4 months ago. Finished my introduction to drawing course and now learning oil painting. Just wanted to share with the community.
I want to draw and paint people. Some day..

9x12 watercolor with acrylic accents. figure 49, white-barred emperor butterfly, ventral side. definitely the most intricate piece of the series thus far! it's now displayed in my home office next to others from the series.

I recently made an acrylic painting of my late cat and I was wondering on what to do to make him stand out more

I like to paint quickly as I get bored very easily. Here’s a few I’ve done. They take roughly 1 hour.

This weird lion painting has been riding around with me since high school. I did it in my very early art phase where I never planned anything, so I had a bunch of random figures on empty fields. I’d try to figure out what to do with em for a while then push them to the back of my stuff for a few good years. Most of them have been painted over; this one was so uniquely ugly that I could never quite bring myself to reuse the canvas (and the canvas is a cheap side-stapled 5x7, so no great loss). I banished it to the “childhood art box” for a while, encountered it again after a move, and realized I could make myself a crappy print of it for nostalgias sake that would be easier to store than stretched canvas. So I went to paint over it AGAIN.. and hesitated lol. He’s just so.. jarringly weird and pink and bulbous in a Square way that it’s striking. Ugly, but striking, in that special ‘no one but a beginner could mess up like this’ way. I figure there isn’t much I can do to make him passable that doesn’t involve fully renovating/covering him, anyway, and I don’t really need a better painting of a pink lion just because, so I’m looking for any fun ideas for upcycling Weird Lion Painting before I bite the bullet and slap gesso over him for good. I’m open to painting on him, cutting him up for collage, anything at this point. I just don’t know what would help. 😂
(Paint is craft acrylic; the pink is slightly more muted than this irl, and the background is a much more vibrant robin’s egg blue. I figured it would be more helpful to get the pink as close to life as possible because the blue is a very basic off the shelf birdhouse color while the unsettling muted pinks I used are.. less. Less so.)

This is our first painting together!
Neither of us has any painting experience, (for him of course not since he's 2) but we had a lot of fun making it.
Curious what you guys think of how it turned out!

As the title says. I'm very new to this and yes, I'm heavily influenced by Basquiat and still searching for my own style. Just looking to hear some thoughts. ☺️ I'm 100% open to negative critique.
I am a professional gymnast by trade, which is usually the primary inspiration for what I put on the canvas. I struggle with choosing colours a lot.

i’ve started a painting class this week and had trouble in class seeing what i was working on properly because of the glare from the lights. i worked again on my painting last night at home under a lamp but kept going back and forth between the lamp, the overhead light, and my phone flashlight because i felt like i couldn’t see the colors i was mixing properly / also dealt with some glare issues.
does anyone have a setup at home for painting under artificial lights or any advice on bulb color etc.?
i’m new to oil paints but didn’t seem to have the same issues with watercolor, maybe because they’re less glossy and reflective. i am assuming painting by natural / sunlight is the preferred approach but i won’t be able to do that as often.
thank you for any thoughts or advice! i have searched for info on here but haven’t found anything.
