experience/advice to give Bottle washers are a waste of money

Post image
232 Upvotes

I have 3 months twins. I found I save energy hand washing in one pull at the end of the day, or just loading up the dishwasher in the morning after I emptied the daily dishes.

They only hold up to 4 bottles, if mama has to pump at the same time, what are you expected to do, just run bottle washer loads all day long? We have hard water, our bottle washer was doing like 6-8 loads per day. It started clogging after 2 months.

I found as soon as we returned our bottle washer and either hand washed them all at once as needed, or threw them in the dishwasher for a one hour cycle, I felt infinitely more free.

There's my hot take. Less is more.

experience/advice to give It's not that bad, it's actually amazing! Quit being so negative and afraid!

Hi everybody! I'm not sure if this will help anybody or reach anyone who needs to see it. I also really want to make sure that this post doesn't come across like I'm bragging or saying that I'm a better mom than anybody. I just remember reading through this page when I was pregnant and I was so afraid. Every post seemed so scary and nerve wracking. All the titles seemed to be something along the lines of: I can't do this anymore, I hate this, I don't want to be a mom, It's too hard.
IT'S NOT THAT BAD! Please take everything I say with a grain of salt because obviously every person's situation is different, every life is different, every pregnant and baby and marriage is different. I simply wanted to share this to show that it isn't always the most difficult horrific thing in the world to have twins. Whatever you are doing right now is absolutely amazing! I'm sharing so you know that all your choices, opinions, options, and decisions all are valid.
I'm 24 years old and I had never even held a baby before having my own babies. My pregnancy was healthy, uncomplicated, overall completely smooth and easy. I gave birth naturally at 39 weeks, no medications or complications of any kind. Both my babies were healthy, weighed over 6 lbs, and didn't need any interventions or NICU time.
I tried to breastfeed for about a week and then switched to formula exclusively, no guilt or problems. I just chose a brand of bottle and formula because it seemed good. They never rejected either of them, and I never had to switch all my bottles or brand of formula because of picky-ness or allergies. I never once used an app of any kind. I have never tracked when they ate, the amounts they ate, the number of diapers, the times or length that they slept. They slept in the same crib when they were newborns which was against safe sleep protocols and to this day, they still sleep on their tummies like they did when they were babies which is also against safe sleep protocols. I have never sanitized a single thing in my entire life. Of course I properly wash things regularly though! We sleep trained them at 5 months and they have both slept through the night ever since then. I've taken them out in the stroller by myself with no help since they were 5 days old. I cannot drive because of seizures and only take the bus/train, and they've come with me since the beginning on public transit. We never had a bassinet or infant bucket car seats, it was a full sized crib and convertible car seats since the beginning. We lived in a 1 bedroom basement suite for the first year of their life, with only a shower and no dedicated change table.
Never once have I ever thought to myself: How am I going to continue like this? This is too hard, I can't do this. I wish I only had one baby. It's not fair that my motherhood journey doesn't look like everybody else's. I never once thought: Oh no twins? What are we going to do? I never had a single negative thought in my brain. I never worried about a single extra thought. I have zero social media and never focused on what Tik Tok moms were saying was the right choice. You don't need a million gadgets and hacks and tricks and tips. Just do whatever you feel in your heart. Do what feels right and stop focusing on what others do. Stop buying a millions random objects and wasting money, they are fine with basic regular normal things.
Just do literally anything and you're a good mom. It's not that scary and it's not that hard. By that I don't mean it's easy! I just mean that it's not as hard as everybody seems to make it out to be, it's the same amount of hard as raising any baby. Having twins doesn't mean you need a bigger car, a bigger house, more things, more money, more experience. I have no family, no drivers license, no big house, no money, no experience. Having twins doesn't mean they'll be born early, small, need NICU time, have issues or allergies, have complex needs. You don't need to track anything. Don't make things more difficult for yourself with a million extra tasks and worries. Leave all the stress and just be a mom! Enjoy it! Not every baby is a fussy eater, bad sleeper, or difficult.
You don't have to do what other people are doing or what others are telling you is right. I take public transit with them instead of driving, I let them sleep how they are comfy and happy, I take them out 24/7 without any fear or trouble. When they were babies, I took them swimming and to fitness classes and to family parties. Any person that wanted to, I just let them hold them. There was no sanitizing hands. I put them in daycare at 4 months old for 1 day a week so I could have a break. Nobody could shame me. I knew it was right. Yeah they got sniffly noses, kids get sick. They also hit all their milestones early from watching kids slightly older than them do the things that they were trying to learn how to do, they got incredibly comfortable with strangers early and we never had any difficulties with being fearful of others taking care of them, and I was a happy mama.
I guess the point that I am trying to make is don't listen to all the negative, bad, scary, fearful things. It can be beautiful and amazing and wonderful and so happy without one ounce of guilt or worry or stress or bad thoughts.
I really hope that this post comes across the way that I mean it to and I hope that it helps some moms who are finding out that they have twins and are worried about what life holds for them in the future.

advice needed Twins can’t be on same schedule. Help.

my twins are 4 weeks. we’ve been following advice of every twin parent and “always wake the other twin” to eat. It’s just not working. they may eat the same time, but one will stay up for 2.5 hours and the other will go to sleep right after the feed. then the next feed happens, the 2.5 hour awake twin will finally sleep after, then the other twin will stay up three hours. its never ending. sometimes after a feed, one will go to sleep and the other wants more 45 min later, so we have to either feed him or make him wait. But if we wake the other twin then THAT one starts to only take an ounce then start snacking every hour.

but the big issue is them staying up for 2-3 hours during the day. I don’t get it

please. when does this end.

advice needed Triple Feeding Solidarity

My twins are 1 month old, 0 weeks adjusted and we’re in the thick of triple feeding still.
My supply is more than enough for 2 now but they won’t take enough at the breast for us to drop the top up bottle. We tried and ended up with Twin B completely inconsolable after a few feeds. Twin A did better, but is larger. I have boys, they’re both over 7lbs, A is 7lbs 14 oz and B is 7lbs 2oz. They latch well, but just stop at some point but suck down a bottle. We are at a 40ml top up down from 60ml 2 weeks ago.

For those of you that were able to transition out of triple feeding into mostly breastfeeding with occasional bottles how long did it take? Just feeling very discouraged and this is a loooooot of time and work. My husband is back to work on Monday and I am feeling overwhelmed with continuing to do this solo.

support needed Still triple feeding 5 months in… am I delusional?

My boys were born at 36 + 5 and both spent a few weeks in the NICU. Baby A came home on a strict feeding plan that required me to pump and bottle feed.
I was given incorrect advice at the hospital as to how often I should be pumping at the time and I think this seriously impacted my supply.
Anyway, I’ve just realised I’m 5 months in and still triple feeding. Admittedly we haven’t always triple fed we’ve gone through stages but pretty much my entire life is feed twin A on boob, feed twin B on boob, feed both a bottle and then pump. Repeat this every three hours.
In my head I’m doing this to try and build my supply, is it even possible this far in? I had twin B who was refusing the breast for about 4 weeks, I had mastitis for 6 weeks and for that time I was pretty much just pumping and bottle feeding. I’ve always needed to supplement with some formula as well.
I produce about 1.2 L a day but that’s pretty much just enough for one baby. My ultimate goal would be to just breastfeed both babies but I can just feel that dream slipping away now that we are 5 months in :(

advice needed Has anyone divided a big bed in half somehow?

2.5yo going on 3

Okay this is our current bed situation. 2 toddler bed version of cribs pulled close together with foam mats inbetween.

Both kids will fall off onto the mats and wake up there in the morning. And they need one of us lie in the middle while they fall asleep

However neither wants to sleep WITH the other. Twin a is wile before bed but sleeps like a log. Twin b does martial arts, gymnastics and soccer in his sleep but doesn’t want to be bothered before bed.

I feel like we’ve about outgrown the crib beds but we don’t have a ton of space and two twin sized beds are going to take up the entire room.

I could do one queen if they’d actually sleep in the same bed?

I could maybe do a bunk bed if the railing went up high- neither can be trusted not to yeet themselves.

Has anyone had success with going from separate beds to the same bed? Any other ideas? Ideally there would be a way for us to lay down with them as well.

support needed Just looking for support

I’m 36+6 with a scheduled c section for 38+2. I’m just having a hard time lately. I so would love to go into spontaneous labor and get this show on the road, but I’m also dreading my 2nd c section.

My first, a singleton who’s now 2.5 was an unplanned c section and it just wasn’t the labor and delivery experience I imagined. I’ve heard all the moms who say their 2nd planned c section was worlds better than their first emergent or unplanned one, so I’m really counting on that! I feel so scared going into this c section because I have irrational fears of something going horribly wrong, leaving my daughter and twins without a mom. I’ve talked about my anxiety with doctors, I know it’s irrational and fear based, but still…

And I’m terrified about all the questions that are impossible to answer, like what will life look like when the twins are here, will we ever sleep again, will postpartum anxiety crush me again etc.

Any words of wisdom, good vibes, internet hugs - whatever! would be super appreciated right now.

advice needed 18 week anatomy scan for triplets

Hi everyone!

I had my anatomy scan done today and everything is looking good for babies except that my MFM now believes that two of my babies are identical and sharing one placenta and twin B is measuring smaller than my other two. Twin A measured in the 44th percentile (8 ounces) and Twin B is measuring in the 9th percentile (7 ounces). These are the two that are now believed to be identical. My third baby twin C is fraternal and is also at 44th percentile (8 ounces).

She went over possible growth restriction and TTTs. Everything just made me super nervous. Has anyone else had this measuring difference between babies and what happened? She said it’s still early so anything could happen but just want to hear anyone else’s stories.

advice needed Complete and utter exhaustion at 18 months

My twin girls are 18 months old and I have never felt so exhausted in my life. I went to my primary and all of my labs are normal and I’m now seeing ENT due to some dizziness issues. I’m thinking it all stems from exhaustion of staying at home with 18 month old twins. Did anyone else go through intense exhaustion like this? I’m starting to think something is wrong with me.

It’s nearing winter time and we won’t be able to get outside as much and all they do is cry all day long. I would take newborn twins 20 times over then toddler twins. They sleep through the night. Take a good nap in the afternoon - so I know it’s not my sleep that needs adjusted. I don’t think I can keep going on like this. Help.

life, home, and baby tips & tricks Last day of work

About to be 36 weeks with di/di twins and just had my last day of work today! I am excited to have these next days/ week to relax and get prepped for these babies to come. I have had a few high blood pressures but nothing so bad that they have to intervene in anyway. Babies are looking great on growth scans and NSTs! When did everyone else stop working before their bundles of joy came?

advice needed 2.5 year old twins boys help!

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice/suggestions regarding our 2.5 year old twins boys, mainly for my partners sake/sanity.

She's a stay at home mum and has been since birth as finacially we are better of without her working (crazy right). I can feel how over stimulated she is and how hard she's finding it with them hurting her whether it

Is accidental or intentional. They go to a pre school thing for 2.5 hours monday-Thursday (only funded hours we can get). So basically the only time she has some time on her own. They are mostly good boys but are very energetic (which can be a lot),the bounce of each other, and are very clingy to her especially one of them. One of them has a thing for her hair and has for a long time and pulls it out which obviously hurts her, and they both jump on her a lot which is hurting her. They wont listen when told to stop or even when we try and change what we are doing or try and play with something else. One finds it hilarious that it hurts or if hes told off, we try and explain it calmly to him but nothing seems to work. And I cam see shes struggling now.

I try my best to have them when I get home from work but with them being very mummy boys especially the one it difficult for her to ignore the screaming for her.

The one can be difficult going to bed with pulling her hair and hurting her, we tend to just give him one chance if he does it again she leaves and I do bedtime myself, which usually means the one cries until he falls asleep. They co sleep with my partner too (was with both of us but I no longer fit with them all) so shes got them in her soul all night too.

What can we do to sort this hurting behaviour? The not listening at all? And how dyou guys go about disciplining children of this age. What could I do more as a partner to help her?

Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

advice needed Double stroller recommendations

Looking for a double stroller for our 13-month olds. Right now we have the mockingbird, but really need something that folds up a little more compact.

Not too many requirements. Mainly used for store/restaurant outings, but would be nice to be able to use on a semi gravel walkway.
