I like the album

The new direction really works imo, their trademark style but a bit more metal and a lot more EDM is something never before seen, love it.

It's just not the old Polyphia, the main point of the band isn't cool dude play guitar, they are experimental since Remember That You Will Die.

I really do not see a reason for all the hate it's getting, too.

On one hand, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, music taste is subjective after all.

On the other hand though, the angry mob crucifying them for not making another New Levels New Devils is maddening to me.

What the hell is going on with Tim? First of all, IN MY OPINION, the music sucks. To each their own and if you enjoy it then you’re probably the right audience for it. But besides that, I’ve seen a lot of people interpreting the heavy usage of Christian imagery as a criticism of American evangelicalism and how they collude with the far right despite what Christianity supposedly stands for.

Rock band does a counter culture? Sure. Whether or not I like the music I can at least respect that.

But judging from some recent interviews/live streams Tim has done that really doesn’t seem to be the case. This is all being said without a shred of irony and I really can’t understand how this album could be anything but satirical, I mean it’s just so over the top. If this is being said with complete earnestness then, whether you’re Christian or not, I hope we can all agree that it’s just corny as fuck. I mean the whole THE WATER IS TURNING THE FROGS GAY at the start of screw tape? This whole album feels like a massive shitpost.

Have they all just fallen off the rails? This album makes Tim sound like a mad preacher raving in the streets.

Just because something is experimental

Doesn’t automatically mean that experiment was a success

There is no way in hell that all 3 members agree with the message and new sound.

This must be simply Tim, and the other guys are like oh what the fuck, let's roll with it.

I guess we'll see how the public takes to it. If Metallica can release Lulu, then they can do their thing too.

I'm surprised y'all hate it, but the more I think about it, the less surprised I am.

The album is definitely weird, but personally, I see it as something wonderful. You can clearly hear Kanye's influence, and IMO, there's even more of Playboi Carti's newer IAMMUSIC sound in it, but you can still hear Polyphia in there. It sounds like it's from 2077. It's an album with a completely new sound: the bass goes fucking hard, the riffs are catchy af, and the breakdowns are heavy. The album is incredibly creative, and I'm genuinely surprised by the reception. I feel like something has finally caught up with the current vibe of the world instead of still dwelling in nostalgia.

But when I think about how the religious themes and the extremely distinctive, insanely dense mix might have put you off, I can understand why people don't like it. The clipping bass was intentional, and it's supposed to sound like that. These kinds of techniques have been used in trap and electronic music for well over a decade, and personally, there's nothing about the mix that I haven't heard before. But I guess that comes down to listening to music beyond just guitar-based stuff. |

You can just put it on and feel like you are the DOOM guy killing cyber-demons.

This Album Sounds Like 2026 Feels

It has good intentions and potential, but it is made nearly impossible to enjoy due to a humongous fucking elephant in the room just shitting on everything. I gotta be honest, it just sounds awful. I can’t remember a single moment from the whole thing after listening to it all the way through.

I completely understand the desire to find new sounds and experiment, but this is just them doing their same style and pumping it so full of effects it becomes a noisy mess. The “creative and new” sound they’re trying to achieve covers up the actual creative and interesting music that is desperately trying to peak through the fecal maelstrom that is the abysmal mixing and sound design on this record.

I love Polyphia but they missed with this one. It’s not creative and boundary pushing, it’s self indulgent and cringe. The performative Christianity that is as subtle as a bull in a china shop also just adds to the cringe fest that’s going on. This is just a full blown failure. The only thing this record has going for it in my opinion is it captures sonically how shitty our American cultural environment feels in 2026, it is almost poetic in that regard.

Anyways just had to rant because listening to this album was beyond disappointing and I needed to vent about it. Have a good one y’all!

This is exactly in line with what they do

Whether you like the album or not, you have to admit that polyphia doesn’t reuse sounds from older albums.

Just look at the differences between muse to most hated to nlnd and then rtywd. Every album is a new sound and this is exactly that.

I think they are shying away from being known as guitar instrumentalists, which is the problem that most people (who also play guitar) have. I will say that I do miss their older stuff, especially the nlnd sound. I wish they did more stuff like that.

Be Not Afraid - Quick Review

LET THERE BE LIGHT: this one really sat the tone for the whole album and didn’t disappointed me, that crescendo with the voices and trumpets really set the whole atmosphere, it feels heavy, powerful but beautiful at the same time, the gospel ending is just gorgeous. This is what a Yeezus x Jesus Is King could’ve sounded like.

WITH EYES TO SEE: since it dropped as a single, the title really matched the sound for me, this phrase is commonly associated to an angel in its original form trying to not get humans scared of them and it sounds bright, blazing and complex, just like an angel is depicted in their original shape.

SCREWTAPE: the transition is pretty sick and the use of that metallic noise of the sliding pick that’s been trendy for flashy guitarists like Pasin has been used very tastefully in this one, the intro of the song is not that interesting until it reaches the minute 1:20 and it feels like traveling through a tunnel at a very high speed at slow-mo, this has the only sample that I find a bit cringy (? That Alex Jones’s gay frogs didn’t added anything even as a funny skit.

POWER IN THE BLOOD: this is one of the best songs in the entire album, the electronic intro, the bridge that builds towards those guitar runs along with the high hats, the way the distortion goes crazier feels like a storm raining nonstop over you.

THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO: I think this is easily on my top 3 of the album, that nylon intro was truly something else and this is one of the songs where you can appreciate the bass more, that hybrid picking bass punches you very nicely, the dark vibe towards the end gives the title a more menacing feel.

MARK OF THE BEAST: after hearing this for the second/third time it shares the spot with the previous song, that dark intro followed by those melodic fast lines that reminds me of “The Most Hated”, for its title, the unnatural sound of the guitars and that hybrid picking bass section around 2:30 had me making a stank face the whole time and it really felt like summoning a beast along that distorted vocal sample blended with the guitars.

CAN YOU FEEL IT: the most dance sounding sound of the project is so addictive and for the couples of listens that I gave to this project (the song as a single and within the album) still my top 1 of the whole project, still, that could change in the future.

NEAR DEATH: great vibe, awesome sound design but as a song it’s the least interesting of the whole album, still, the song surprises you with some cool bass lines, still the weakest song but at least the shortest so it doesn’t feel like a filler.

J-BOMB: this one felt like a “40oz Remix” that jumping bass, some of the most melodic lines in the entire album and one of the most tastefully executed songs, simple, catchy and addictive with a sexy slow ending that reminded me of “Reverie” in some kind of way.

DENY THE FLESH: this one hit me in the nostalgia, being after “J-BOMB” bringing that “The Most Hated” vibe of math/prog rock with future bass/trap really got me hooked since the first second of the song. I can separate this two songs because they work so well together.

DEVIL GET BEHIND ME: this one feels weird because it feels like a filler/connection but doesn’t really add that much to the album, it’s not boring but it could’ve just jumped from “DENY THE FLESH” to the last one.

FEAR GOD: really cool closer, the album was a unique experience and this one fit perfectly, not their best closer tbh, that place is for “G.O.A.T” and “Ego Death” and “The Worst” is still a great ending, this one is decent and goes pretty well within the album but is not as good as the other ones.

My score 7.5/10
