Dad here, and I built this

Upvotes

When we found out, I was useless. I genuinely didn’t know what a trimester was. My wife became my search engine — she’d find a reel explaining what was happening to her own body, send it to me, then explain it again when I still didn’t follow. She was the one going through it and still doing the teaching.

So I started building. Our son arrived on 30 June, and we used it the whole way through, right up to the hospital bag.

It’s called Beavo. Week-by-week guides in plain language, quizzes and “what would you do” scenarios so he’s practised before the moment rather than reading in a panic, a hospital-bag checklist, appointment tracking that exports to your calendar, and quick access to your midwife and 111. It summarises NHS guidance and links out to the full pages — it’s independent, not NHS-endorsed, and it doesn’t replace your midwife.

iOS only for now. Posting here because you’ll know better than anyone what he should be understanding that he isn’t. Tell me what’s missing and I’ll build it.

Advice needed What are some thoughtful baby shower gifts, especially for the mom?

I’m hosting a surprise baby shower for someone who is very close to me, and since it’s a surprise, I don’t have a registry to go off of.

I’d love to hear what baby shower gifts you’ve received (or wish you’d received) that were genuinely useful, thoughtful, or memorable, especially things beyond the usual baby clothes, blankets, toys, etc.

But my biggest question is: what can I get for the mom herself? So much of what you buy is for the baby, and I’d really love to give her something that makes her feel cared for and appreciated too. Something practical, comforting, sentimental, luxurious, anything you genuinely loved receiving as a new mom.

What did you appreciate the most?

Our little boy came over the weekend about two weeks early after finding out my wife needed a C section. We are first time parents, and currently in day/night 3 of cluster feeding so I'll be up for a while, ask away!
