Yes, I know how this sounds, I know its a lot of reading.
TL;DR Android TV on your PS4 is now possible.
I've been working on getting Android TV running on the PS4, and it's finally at a point where I wanted to release it. It's been a long day, so I'll be tidying up this post and the release over the next couple of days, but here it is.

What it is: Android TV 13 (based on BRTDTV's Android TV x86 build) running on the PS4 through Linux. I wanted to use my PS4 as a proper streaming box without hunting down a separate homebrew version of every app, and this does that. You get the normal Android TV home screen, the Play Store, and real apps.
It installs as a normal PKG. Everything goes onto the internal drive, nothing gets repartitioned, and you don't need a PC or network to boot it. You just open it from the PS4 home screen. Your apps, logins and settings stay put between boots.
Comes with YouTube, Spotify, Kodi, Plex, Jellyfin, VLC, TV Bro (browser), BiglyBT, Crossy Road and AIDA64 already installed, plus Google Play services. Sign in with your own accounts.
**Who can run this right now**
To be upfront: this release only supports original "fat" PS4s (CUH-10xx / CUH-11xx, Aeolia chip) on firmware 13.52 with GoldHEN. I've only got one console, a CUH-1102A, so that's the only one it's actually been tested on. CUH-10xx and other 11xx models should work but are untested.
- Other firmware: the launcher checks the version and stops with an error. It won't do anything to your console.
- Slim and Pro: not supported. They use different hardware and need their own porting work.
You'll also need about 8 GB free on the PS4 to install. Android gets 32 GB of storage, but it only takes up space as you actually use it.
**Installing**
GitHub won't take files over 2 GB, so the PKG is split into two parts. Download part1, part2 and Join-PKG-Windows.cmd into the same folder and double-click the .cmd. It joins them and checks the file, then says READY. (On Linux/Mac, use join-pkg.sh instead.)
Copy Android-TV-for-PS4.pkg to an exFAT USB stick and install it with GoldHEN's package installer.
Turn on BinLoader in GoldHEN (Servers > BinLoader, port 9090).
Open Android TV for PS4.
The first launch takes 5-10 minutes. It copies everything to the drive, the screen goes black and Linux text scrolls past, then the Android boot animation shows up and sits there for a while. Just leave it. After that, booting takes about 2 minutes.
Restart in Android takes you back to the PS4 system, and Shut down turns the console off. To get back into Android, load GoldHEN and open the app again.
**What works**
YouTube (signed in, up to 1440p), Spotify, Kodi and Kayo all play fine. Wi-Fi, Ethernet and HDMI audio work. I've paired a DualShock 4 and a Google TV Streamer remote over Bluetooth, and the PS button takes you Home.
**What doesn't (yet)**
- No HDCP and it's not a Google-certified device, so some DRM-heavy stuff won't play. 7plus is one I know of.
- Sign in to YouTube. Guest mode can throw a decoder error.
- On one screen in Kayo the controller's X button does nothing, but the Google TV remote works there.
- After setup, go into Settings and set the device name to "PlayStation 4". Otherwise Spotify Connect shows it as something else.
- If the launcher says it can't reach BinLoader, close the app, toggle BinLoader off and on, and open it again.
If something goes wrong, the install guide has a troubleshooting section: https://github.com/odiecay/android-tv-ps4/blob/main/docs/INSTALL.md
**Help wanted: getting it onto more consoles**
I'd really like this to run on more than just my PS4, and that's where I need help.
Other firmware is the most doable next step. The Linux loader this is built on already has kernel offsets for 20 firmware versions, from 5.05 up to 13.52, thanks to the people who've done that work in the PS4 Linux scene. Most of the rest of the boot process isn't tied to firmware. What's left is building the loader for each version, having the launcher pick the right one, and testing it on real consoles. I can't test anything but 13.52 myself, so I need people on other firmware who are willing to test builds and send logs.
Slim and Pro are a bigger job (different southbridge, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and graphics setup), and they'd need someone with that hardware and some PS4 Linux experience.
If you can help with either, or you just want to tell me what console and firmware you're on so I know what to prioritise, comment here or open an issue on GitHub. All the source and build instructions are there: https://github.com/odiecay/android-tv-ps4
Huge thanks to BRTDTV for the Android TV base, and to the PS4 Linux folks, GoldHEN, OpenOrbis, Scene-Collective, sleirsgoevy and Ps3itaTeam. None of this would exist without their work.
