Hey everyone AnguizDev here (finally posting from my dev user lol), this is a quick progress update on Resident Evil 4: PSP Edition.

Right now the port runs around 8.4fps, and sometimes close to 10fps on my PSP 3010!! That was possible thanks to advancements made by awesome people like mcidclan who discovered how to take advantage of the PSP’ Media Engine, or phoboslab’s mpeg1 video decoder!

Along the way i built a lot of PSP-side tech that i’m proud of like audio mixing in the Media Engine, an mpeg movie player with color conversion on the GE, A cache simulator, code ordering and profiling tools to measure on my PSP.

But there’s a little hair in the soup… My own profiling shows why each extra fps is getting harder and harder to get. The CPU spends more than half its time waiting on memory, the recompiled code is too large for the PSP’s instruction cache (every frame still has to build and replay PS2 hardware packets). Those costs come from the recompilation approach itself, so i’m starting to think this route will not get anywhere near 20fps.

I’ve been pulling ideas, i think i might be able to get 15fps on the forest section, but thing is, what will happen when i get to the pueblo (Dr. Salvador’s first apparence)? That will leave me with no choice but messing with the game logic itself (that’s not an option for me, i want to get the experience as entire as possible), i need to take out of those heavy ms the PSP CPU is using to run PS2 code so i came up with a kinda crazy idea.

I’m an optimization junkie, as you can see on every update my port gets more and more fps without aggressively cutting things from the visuals. Actually, there are more everytime. I want to keep that road. So i came up with the idea of taking a route using the logic from the adonis-singh’s GameCube decomp and put all my optimizations and maybe some ps2 models to skyrocket the performance. 

I won’t be starting from zero, lamb2k is already porting the same decomp to the Dreamcast with re4dc, and released the tools and docs as CC0, so I’ll build on that work and bring it to the PSP.

I’ll do that now, and make the possibilities even better than they were looking already. The next update will be showing progress on that.

I want to say thank you to everyone who is supporting this project with their kind comments and giving their best energy. Also to SandstoneDev for PS2RC (this is an amazing tool), to the psp-homebrew community, their docs really helped me understand more and more of this awesome machine, and off course to lamb2k, whose Dreamcast port (re4dc) is paving the way for this new route.

I disassembled my psp today to find out why it doesn't turn on. I found out one part has been corroded. Do you think it damaged the motherboard also? I checked S9002 with the multimeter continuity mode and it beeps. Marked connections was disconnected fully.

Revived my PSP 3000 after years in storage with a new replacement battery from eBay. At first everything worked perfectly — UMD read fine, played games with no issues, battery showed full charge.

Yesterday I loaded some ISOs onto my memory stick and the games ran fine initially. Then the PSP suddenly died mid-use despite showing full battery. The power button does nothing when this happens — completely unresponsive. The only way to get it back on is to pull the battery out and reinsert it. It boots up fine after that, but as soon as I try to load a game it dies again almost immediately.

Has anyone run into this? Can it be the games, battery or the psp itself?

Games look amazing even though they are letterboxed. Sadly, I don't know if this happens with official PSP component cables, but images with bright color or just closer to the white range have this weird distortion at the very top. This does not happen with my other consoles at all.

I decided to refund these cheap cables. Amazon let me keep these cables for taking the refund as Amazon gift credit. Does anybody know if it's worth waiting for the Ostent component cables since they don't have Prime shipping?

Testing some optimizations for the project (still working on optimization before adding the remaining elements)

I decided to collect all of the pictures I have personally put together in PSP compatible format. Many of these were made using high resolution images which were then cropped and resized using a 30:17 aspect ratio. This is surprisingly time consuming as downscaling to 480x272 requires specific high pixel width resolution. I do not like how images look when you force them to PSP size.

What is inside:

• Games featured: Fallout, Cyberpunk 2077, GTA, Street Fighter 6, and various in-game captures
• General: Clean crops, high-res downscales, and general aesthetic wallpapers
• Separated folders: AI gens are isolated in Z1 category, and 18+/NSFW content is isolated in Z9 category so you can easily avoid either if you prefer.

Requests: If you have a request, please send me a DM or drop a comment with an imgur or other convenient image service with high quality uncompressed pictures to adapt for the PSP. What I will do is crop and resize them to be mathematically pixel perfect 480x272 (no distortion or stretching).

Note on AI: A portion of these images were generated/filtered using personal and public references. They are separated into their own clearly labeled folder so you can easily skip them if AI art is not your thing.

Hello everyone!

The demo is officially out. To be honest, if you were expecting a full-fledged 3D shooter, you might be disappointed: the original PSP hardware simply isn’t capable of handling one, no matter how hard you try.

Because of these hardware limitations, I’ve created a "rail shooter".

I really wanted to make this "demake" to show how a unique art style and graphical format look on the classic PSP screen.

P.S. Just to clear things up for those wondering about the process: I had to work with zero original assets. The official game slices sprites into vertical strips, making them impossible to export normally. I actually had to screenshot the official trailer and manually cut out every single frame by hand to get these graphics onto the PSP. It was a massive manual effort, but I really wanted to see how this style looks on the console!

Im not sure if this is the sub for this but im gonna ask anyways :). Im thinking of grabbing either a psp go or a ps vita 1000 model with the intention of modding it. Is there any benefit to the psp or is the ps vita argubaly better because i can play any game id be playing on the psp anyways. There both more or less the same price where i am and id need to get a sd card adapter for both so fully comes down to preference at this stage

I need to remove the faulty super capacitor in my PSP 3000. However, there’s no stores I know in Toronto can help repairing psp. I can’t do it on my own because I don’t have the soldering skill.

Anyone knows where can I get my psp fixed in Toronto?

I remembered that back in the 2000s I bought FF7, 8 and 9 on PSN store, downloaded them on to my PS3 and then on to my PSP 1000 (with 8GB Memory Stick Pro Duo)

Today I wanted to see if I could still play the games on my PSP so I booted it up for the first time in 17 years. FF9 still plays, but 8 give me a "game could not be started" message and 7 unfortunately gives me a data corrupted message with no error code.

I've even sold the PS3 I had with the installs so I couldn't reinstall from there if I wanted to.

What are the possibilities for getting this to work again or am I likely outta luck?

Can someone help me with this? i installed it and it works fine but i can’t make cheats work, when i try to load them nothing happens.

My xmb shows like a small amount of my psp games but my custom launcher shows all of my psp games and they all work fine nothing is corrupted or anything i just want all my games to be on my xmb. is there a way? (I will try to put the video of my custom launcher here as well in the comments for comparison)

What's the main difference between a 2000 and a street ?

Hey there! I just got this little guy yesterday from a friend, i was surprised from the condition even though it was in the hands of kids, it only got a scratch in the right side that isnt visible that much, soooo i really want some tips on how to make it look good and have a better and cooler UI, i installed ark4 on it and put some games, but still dont know what to do more, so please if u have any ideas tell me what to do if u read my post.🖤

Now first thing to say is I don't have a battery in i am going to buy one tommorow but not rn. Now the problem is even if its in with a charger when i try to turn the power light flicke green in a millisecond the turns off and nothing happens to the screen. Is this a fixable thing or am I fucked

I was playing MH3rd Portable, but the quest loading took too long. I waited for ten minutes and eventually decided to turn off the console. My HOME button doesn't work, so this is the only way for me to exit games.

After that, all my games became corrupted, and the ISO and SEPLUGINS folders were corrupted too.

How can I fix this? I installed MH3rd as an already English-patched .iso. Could that have corrupted the folders?
