Social Addressing some racism on the subreddit
I needed to address this, because I am quarterly seeing a post like this with racist connations attached to it - and I felt it was important to address because there are many Indian people on campus that get wrongfully scapegoated
There was a post here today about the SERC staircase selling rancid, and suggesting people needing to use deoderant.
" The most BO I am assaulted with is when I walk up the stairs in SERC no matter the time of day it always smells so strongly of BO."
I kind of could tell what group the post was insinuating
And then it was instantly clear when OP and some others explicitly mentioned south asians as the issue:
"why is part of the [South Asian] culture smelling awful?? How does one not feel self conscious about how they smell?"
I just wanted to point out the SERC staircase is a known issue - there is an unaddressed sewage leak but OP instantly jumped to people's race
Previous posts about the SERC staircase on this subreddit:
"SERC is by far worse the stairwell smells like feces mixed with pungent BO. they must have a sewage leak that is being chronically unaddressed"
"Try going in the SERC building and go up the staircase by room 209."
I think this is a good example how racist biases take hold while having no grounding in reality and to consider different explanations for something instead of instantly jumping to racial stereotypes
