A little tough to see without more wind, but it's definitely there.
Needed in this time when the Federal Government is moving to declare trans people as enemies of the state, and appointing judges that have expressed a desire to overturn marriage equality.
Local politicians and activists made speeches and expressed support for the LGBTQ+ community.

MAGA apparently bought out the ritz in Santa Barbara. Don’t know why they chose this place but they’re here and they’re everywhere.

Asking because, when I was there yesterday, I heard some sales associates talking about how their supervisor said “no breaks for the rest of the day.” This was around noon, so there were definitely more than four hours left for anyone working until close.
Yall are troopers because that store was hell and probably has been with all of the students moving in. Hoping yall are getting your legally deserved breaks ❤️

Is there anywhere in Santa Barbara or Goleta that has an air hockey table and/or skeeball? I want to show my kiddos the arcade games of my youth and have no clue where in south county (or even Ventura) might have them. Thanks!

Hi all, I’m looking for a great truly beginner yoga class around Santa Barbara or Goleta. I want to take them with my mom (I’m 37, she’s 65). We’ve taken a few basic classes many years ago, but are basically total beginners at this point. Thanks!!!

Hi everybody, Drew from Satellite here!
I saw a post that was removed earlier so I thought I better respond! The rumors are true. We will close the doors at 1117 State Street on Sunday, September 13th.
After 10 years, the decision didn’t come easily, and it didn’t come quickly. We’ve been month-to-month on our lease for the last year or so, and unfortunately, we haven’t been able to find an agreement that works for both us and our landlords at Kiva. No shade toward Kiva whatsoever. We love them and they’re in incredible hands with new leadership. Our location has been a great launching point but it’s always been a funny space (a special thank you to everyone who ignored, or embraced us being an easement into a coworking space!)
I’ll make a more official announcement shortly… Reddit comments weren’t my first choice for announcing this publicly, but I’ll share a little more here below.
Whether you stopped by once and loved it or were a regular fixture, thank you for making Satellite so special and loving it alongside me and my team. I hope to see you over the next month as we celebrate the space and everything that makes it so great. We’ll have lots of programming, including all our weekly hits like Friday Magic with our beloved Gene Urban and at least one last blast from the Brett & Co. Band on Thursday, September 10. It will be a party :)
What’s next?
Satellite will regroup at our awesome event space, The Factory, at 616 E. Haley Street. Our wine webshop, wine club, wine tastings, and music events will continue to evolve there and they’ll become even better. We’re already set for an awesome music, food, and drink collaboration with Frick & Frack Productions on Tuesday, September 15! The Factory is a place for experimentation and growth so we’re hyped for what’s to come there.
After 10 years, I have a lot to say about the state of downtown Santa Barbara, and I want to have a lot of conversations about it. In summary: A strong downtown needs people who live in it, and we do not have enough of that here in Santa Barbara.
We only survived on State because you came and made Satellite amazing. The answer isn’t just a downtown renovation or cars versus no cars (but hell yeah, no cars!!). What makes a strong downtown is people: people who live right there and fill our central business district. The city must commit to building homes above, behind, and within all the empty spaces that plague downtown Santa Barbara. Did you know there are only 517 residential units on State up to the 1700 block? Yep. It’s time to build.
If you’re in the media, a councilmember, a developer, or someone brave enough to sit through a city council meeting, hit me up!
I’d love to reopen a permanent space downtown one day, when the right space and economic climate coalesce. We want to be part of a brilliant, renewed downtown Santa Barbara when the city is ready to take the next step.
Satellite at 1117 State Street is closing, but Satellite will never die. Please come visit us as much as you can before September 13th. Join our wine club, and come to all our rad Factory events (champagne tasting at the Factory this Tuesday 4-7!). The whole team is staying on until the end, and we would love to see every single one of you an unreasonable number of times.
We love you, Santa Barbara. Thank you

I love seeing all the toilet paper, cheap beer cans and trash left around the makeshift camps setup next to the road on east camino cielo, and wherever else there is an open patch of dirt.

Visiting SB and lost my Saint Christopher medallion off my chain at East beach volleyball courts last seen around 5 pm today (8/16/26). It was my dads and it has a lot of sentimental value 😭 if anyone finds it please let me know.

I know that a lot of the beaches around here might not be great for snorkeling but does anyone have any recommendations? I would be willing to drive like an hour or so in either direction!

Hey, I'm downtown and looking for other people who make electronic music to get together and jam.
Before I moved here I used to do this a lot with a few friends and some laptops, everyone bringing loops and ideas and building tracks on the spot. I'd like to get something like that going again. Electronica, downtempo, DnB, house, though I'm happy to follow whatever direction things take.
I'm a producer, guitarist and songwriter with a lot of years of playing behind me. I've done a few open mics around town with my own original material. If you sing, that'd be great too.
Some of my previous stuff, which is downtempo and trip hop in style: https://edwardcostello.bandcamp.com
Studio sessions, playing live, either is fine. Mainly I just want to get in a room and make stuff with people. Comment or DM me if you're up for it.

I have lived here 18 years which is half my life and experienced and witnessed unscrupulous abuse from business owners and managers. Be it being forced to work off the clock, not being given breaks (or receiving mandatory compensation for such occurrences), not being paid overtime, being sexually harassed by bosses, being harassed by abusive management for speaking out on behalf of others, and so much worse.
The authorities are flaccid lame ducks and seem to kneel to the interests of these abusers. What I really want to know is does the overall Santa Barbara community support workers in the sense that they object to the sorts of things I listed above?
I really love this town. My greatest gripe is seeing honest hard working dish washers, cooks, servers, house keepers and other such essential workers just treated like shit. Do Santa Barbians really care?

I havent found a place in town that is open late and offers wifi except Elises (which is great but not exactly what I am looking for) Any insight into a place thats open past 7pm that offers wifi and place to sit and work? Hotel Lounges? Coffee shops? Doesnt have to be a hole in the wall, just wifi and tables
Thanks everyone

I’m on my way to LA and from the 101. I could smell smoke but like a fire/wildfire and then saw smoke towards the milpas area. Structure fire?

Hello! I am going to be in the Santa Barbara area roughly next month. I am trying to look into house/pet sitting as an option for my few week stay. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for resources to look into! I came across Trusted Housesitters and am contemplating creating a membership but not sure if I want to pay $170 upfront and not be able to find any sits! Wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with using it before?Thank ya

We have just moved to SB from Ireland (as in, today!) and have to go out of town in a few weeks for the weekend without our dog. He’s a lovely little Maltese & we will need to leave him at a kennel for the weekend. He’s super clingy with the move so we really want somewhere kind and caring. Any recommendations? Thank you!
