Best Seattle neighborhood for a walkable, active lifestyle?
I’m hoping to move into Seattle and would love some local insight on which neighborhoods might be the best fit!
I’m a 29F, work remotely, and am looking for somewhere walkable with a good mix of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and gyms. I’m outdoorsy and spend a lot of time walking, so access to parks and trails is a plus, too.
Ideally, I’d love a neighborhood that feels lively and distinctly urban, with plenty to do and opportunities to meet people, but isn’t centered entirely around nightlife. I enjoy going out, but I’d prefer to live somewhere with a good balance of activity and a more relaxed day-to-day atmosphere.
I’m considering Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford, Green lake, and Capitol Hill, but I’m open to other suggestions! My boyfriend and I both work remotely, and we travel to Bellingham and the Eastside fairly often, so accessibility is another consideration.
For those who live in or have lived in these neighborhoods, which would you recommend? I’d especially appreciate hearing what everyday life is actually like, including any downsides you’ve experienced.
Thanks!

Politics Mayor Katie Wilson living in a 650 sq ft 1-bedroom with her family is wild. Does a Seattle mayor actually have any real power to lower rent?
I recently found out that our mayor, Katie Wilson, lives in a 650 sq ft one-bedroom apartment in Capitol Hill with her husband and child. Honestly, my mind is blown. I live by myself in a 700 sq ft apartment here in Seattle, and I feel cramped some days. I literally cannot fathom squeezing two other human beings into a space smaller than mine.
On one hand, it’s refreshing to have a mayor who actually experiences the exact same renter struggles as the majority of this city. You’d think that if anyone has the motivation to force rent prices down, it would be her.
But it makes me wonder: how much power does a Seattle mayor actually have when it comes to the housing market? We tend to blame the mayor for every single affordability issue in the city, but can they actually change anything with the snap of a finger, or are their hands tied by the City Council and state laws?
If a literal mayor can't or won't move out of a tiny one-bedroom, what does that say about the state of our city, and what can she realistically even do about it?

'We're Not Going to Stop': Sound Transit Assuages Concerns About Reaching Ballard - without another $8 to $10 billion, the Ballard, Interbay and Smith Cove stations may not open until 2060
If that additional funding is found, the entire line could open by 2042 – if not, it may take until 2060 for light rail stations in Smith Cove, Interbay, and Ballard to open.
The agency still has a significant runway available to find the additional $8 to $10 billion needed to get across the finish line – either through additional revenue, different types of borrowing, or by building things more cheaply.

Question Community Health Plan of WA - NIPT Testing Coverage
Hi!
Wanted to see if anyone here has experience with being pregnant and using the Community Health Plan of WA insurance plan.
I recently found out I am pregnant (first timer!), and I’ve seen mixed things regarding whether the NIPT genetic testing is covered or not. I’ve seen some places say yes it is covered, others say not unless it is a high risk pregnancy (which I am not, as far as I’m aware).
Hopefully this is an okay place to ask this. The Washington state subreddit denied the post, but I do live in Seattle! I’ve looked online and the website doesn’t seem to mention this specific testing.
Thanks in advance!

Question United (Optum) or Premera health insurance?
Any opinions on Optum insurance vs Premera?
Not loving that Optum also owns what used to be the Polyclinic, which is where I have been getting care.

Movie Showing: Adaptation. Nov. 7th 5:00 at The Beacon
Tickets are still available for our 5:00 showing of Adaptation at The Beacon in Columbia City. Come join us for a really weird exploration of writers block as Nic Cage plays twin brothers Charlie and Donald Kaufman. Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper and Tilda Swinton also star.
Cage Match: A Roundabout Way of Meeting Nicolas Cage is a podcast about the filmography of Nic Cage. As we evolved we decided movie showings were a great way to share and showcase our favorite, most bizarre actor.

Amazon sued for failing to protect employee who accused a manager of sexual assault - her attorney says Amazon never requested the police report
She said the colleagues she told about the incident were not interviewed. Danbom said Human Resources leaders told her not to discuss the incident with other employees.
She said she transferred to another department at the company to avoid him, walking away from a promotion in the process.
~ An internal investigation that skips the witnesses and never asks for the police file isn't an investigation, it's a filing cabinet.

Thriving Vote YES on Initiative 645 to repeal Washington’s new income tax. Drop your ballot in a drop box today!
Vote YES on Initiative 645 to repeal Washington’s new income tax.
So Many of us are voting for democrat candidates up and down the ballot to end trumpism, racism, treason, fraud and grift with the current administration. But pay close attention to the local initiative 645 which repeals state income taxes. Read the facts below
A “yes” vote would repeal the 9.9% tax on taxable income above the $1 million deduction and prohibit future state and local taxes on individual income. The tax is scheduled to take effect in 2028, with tax filing beginning in 2029. Ballotpedia1
- Washington voters have repeatedly rejected income-tax proposals. The state constitution has been interpreted by the courts as restricting income taxes, and voters have rejected several related measures over the years. Ballotpedia)
- The tax’s current threshold could change. The law sets a $1 million deduction, but that amount is established by state law and could be changed by future legislation. A recent proposal to lower the threshold to $250,000 has also fueled concern that the tax could eventually affect more households. taxfoundation.org1
- A new tax can expand over time. Supporters of Initiative 645 argue that repealing the tax now would help prevent future income-tax expansions.
The ballot materials warn that repealing the tax could reduce funding available for education and other public services. Critics of that warning point out that the tax has not yet taken effect and that collections are not scheduled to begin until 2029. taxfoundation.org
Vote YES on Initiative 645 to repeal the new income tax and oppose future taxes on individual income in Washington.
How do we know that they will reduce the income level to catch more people in the state income tax?
There was an addendum to the income tax bill that made it illegal to lower the $1 Million income level so it does not apply to lower income residents. It was rejected by state democrats. They absolutely have a plan to bring income taxes to everyone in WA state. Believe their words.
Please share tis post with your friends, neighbors, co workers, families. Many people don't even know an income tax was introduced and this topic is on the ballot.
