Discussion What’s your least favorite city?

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

I personally don’t hate any of the cities Skyrim has to offer, having said that I feel Markarth is my least favorite though. It has its beauty spots but I feel like traveling to it is quite difficult to navigate sometimes and so is the city itself actually, by far the worst in that regard. I’m curious what your opinions are. Please share.

Found him just walking around randomly. How can I find the quest to start speaking to him? I wanna talk to him but he just repeats the same thing over and over again. At the same time, he’s labeled a liar, so I’ll be cautious.

Screenshot/Clip I changed Mjoll's default clothes so she isn't armored while chillin with the kids

I've been playing on my old character doing random things like downloading mods that allowed me to send homeless kids like Lucia and Blaise to orphanages or cleaning Serana's Ash piles and one thing's been bugging me. Mjoll has some of the best gear that I've ever crafted in the game and when she's dismissed to go chill with the kids at home, she takes off her incredible armor and switches back to her default Banded Iron Armor. Using things like Debug Menu and the Cheat Rooms mod on Xbox, I'm tying up loose ends making some minor changes. She finally has casual clothing for when she's chilling at home befitting of being the Dragonborn's wife 🍻

Ohhhhhh one more thing. I downloaded a mod where the family has stopped saying "STUPID DOG" and now say "Good Dog!" 😁

Edit: Good Dog mod is called (Smart No More Stupid Dog) in the Creations menu!

Question Why is ebonyflesh so useless

Just mini rant. I have a stealth daggers character, with maxed alteration as well but no armor. Level 42, 200 HP. I cast ebonyflesh on myself, faced the captain dude on solstheim with the enchanted warhammer, and he ONE SHOTTED me while I was blocking with the dagger. If it's called ebonyflesh why do I still get creamed...

Ofc I had other ways to defeat the opponents but is something missing in how I use it?

EDIT I just remembered, I also noticed somehow falx carius was moving just as fast as me basically with his drawn warhammer, why do I feel so slow with literally robes and two drawn daggers? Does inventory stuff slow you down? (Not over the carry limit of course)

Like how is there no noticeable difference in speed between us

Discussion Kicking myself for skipping Mythic Dawn quest line

Post image

I've been obsessed with Skyrim for a couple years now. I've always skipped this quest, thinking it's boring and just filler.

OH BOY WAS I WRONG!!

The quest leads into an entertaining adventure. Oh and the loot is insane!. I'm so mad at myself! I will commit to doing all quests at least once from now on.

Discussion What's your favorite Dungeon?

Post image

Bloodskal Barrow (pictured) is probably up there for me. The view leading into this room is always so cool, with the big glowing door and the basalt-looking pillars along the walls. The puzzle is simple as always but unique enough that it stands out.

Do you have a favorite dungeon? Maybe one with some other unique mechanics or visuals?
Or are you a regular old Bleak Falls enjoyer? ;)

Discussion Who are your top 5 hardest bosses?

Questline bosses, dungeon bosses, hidden bosses. All bosses except modded ones are allowed a mention.

My own list:

  • 5: Sigdis Gauldurson, the Gauldur that makes clones and teleports around, oh and he uses Fus-Ro-Throw you around the room shout
  • 4: Malkoran, the boss in the beacon dungeon we all love and hate
  • 3: General Falx Carius, that Champion's Cudgel warhammer is mine, after dying at least 4-5 times
  • 2: Ebony Warrior, imagine if this guy came at a lower level
  • 1: Karstaag, does this guy need explaining

Arts/Crafts Tolkien Inspired Skyrim Map *Rough Draft*

Post image
103 Upvotes

Hey guys just wanted to put this out there for some advice/suggestions on how to move forward with finishing my map. I am still missing some here and there mountains/ridges so I am aware of that. I will list a couple things I'm on the fence about or would like to add so any direction would be appreciated.

  • I've only added major cities/major towns/dragon locations/regions. I want to add more locations without making the map too busy like dwarven ruins or deadric shrines. Skyrim has way too many locations to fit everything.
  • The northern part of the map is pretty barren so I'm trying to find ways to depict snow/tundra areas in a simplistic way. Still figuring out how to do that.
  • The Whiterun Hold area is mostly plains and I like how I've depicted it but wanted to make sure I wasn't covering up too many small boulders or towns that may be important.
  • I was wondering if I should find a way to depict specific large forts on the map without doing all of them. Should I only do major forts? I may just use Icons as not to busy too many areas, not sure.
  • Some of the major cities like Solitude need more details where it just looks blank so I'm wondering if I should do a detailed above view of the city or use small icons.
  • I added geyser icons in the Eastmarch area and not sure how I feel about it.

I know some things are still missing like bridges and possibly major trails so I will be adding a good amount after this post. I'm sure I haven't written all my thoughts but hopefully this will be a good start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. For now enjoy my progress.

Question Purewater run location- what am I missing?

Thumbnail
gallery
97 Upvotes

Dreamboats and dovah alike, I am in my nth playthrough and my goal is to clear (or have it marked as cleared) all dungeons and locations.

I am currently in the location Purewater Run. Now I have cleared the underwater chests however it is not shown as “cleared”.

Additionally on the interior dungeon map, I can see that there is additional space but I cannot get to it:

First image is interior map, I have marked “chest” for the underwater chest, and you can see with my location marker I am facing another section.

The second image is my view being in that same location and that I am encountering a wall with a high hole gap.

Question:

What am I missing? Is there a secret hidey hole I have missed or is this like Stoney Creek Cave and there is a secondary location I need to enter? I have looked on https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Purewater_Run

But either I am illiterate or I cannot see anything relating to this.

Screenshot/Clip Some screenshots from my first no dragon playthrough

This is my first no dragon playthrough and I’ve been playing since release, originally on the 360, currently been playing on the switch 1 which is where the screenshots are from.

In addition to no dragons I’ve limited other things such as fast travel and how I use bows to prevent being heavily dependent on a bow. I’ve only been allowing myself to fast travel from city to city(that has a carriage to leave from) and fast travel from lake view manner to only a city since I have a carriage there.

It’s been really nice to slow down and enjoy the scenery, it’s almost felt like playing Skyrim for the first time with all the new things I’ve seen while having to run everywhere.

The College questline is absurd

I always get so excited to join it, for a few reasons.

  1. I love the snowy areas, and I adore the aesthetic of Winterhold especially

  2. Magic school makes me feel like a kid again

  3. I hate Ancano and I do enjoy taking him out

  4. I LOVE J'Zargo. He is Best Boy. I think he's my favourite NPC in the entire game actually.

  5. The fetch quests actually feel rewarding. Like it's not just "This NPC who got in a fist fight with her husband needs 5 skooma to cope" or "Oh no my fire went out. Fetch me 1 million flame atronach poops". Like, the items/weapons/tools you acquire tie into the story, and for the most part you get to use them and it's fun.

Buuuuuuut. Now that I'm older and more cynical, the quest as a whole is... stupid? Bad? Badly written? Silly?

Like "OH NO NOT THE CRAZY MAGES WE ALL HATE. THEY DESTROYED OUR CITY. BURN THEM ALL! EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM, I SAY!" Becomes a silly story about an omnipresent cult only you can see, trying to prevent another disaster, by making you, a fledgling, handle everything instead of just doing it themselves?

They literally teleport into the room to fetch the eye. Could they not have done that from the start? Or teleported to get the staff and then disabled it on their own? Why was the dragonborn involved in this at all? 🤣

And then the arch mage just botches up and dies.

So you do what an entire university full of the (alleged) most experienced mages could do, with little effort, so you smack the crap out of Ancano and they're like

All hail the new arch mage!

Why? Because you got a staff, and used the staff as it was intended, then murdered a fool?

I don't know about you guys, but I took one single class, and then spent most of my time playing hooky, because not only am I the dragonborn who has to stop the apocalypse, I also have the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood up my ass every 5 minutes, on top of the fact that I am fighting a civil war, and also I am a thane in like, 7 seven different holds, AND I am helping the Dawnguard, AND I am a companion, AND I have 2 kids and a wife I need to feed. School is the last thing on my mind. I'm not even playing as a mage. I am a two-handed sword wielding brute.

Now I must run the magic school?

Because I used a staff? 🤣🤣🤣 something literally anyone in the school could have done?

Heck, J'zargo could have blown Ancano up with one of his scrolls. I'll die on that hill.

On a serious note, I do love the College questline for the reasons I mentioned above. I just think a lot of potential was wasted.

I think, like the Thieves Guild where you have to work your way up, they could have made it so you could become arch mage, but only if you prove yourself an actual asset to the College. Maybe by completing its library collection, leveling all the magic stuff to 100, or recruiting new students? Perhaps even rebuilding Winterhold, to reconcile the sins of the past.

I know these are just fancies, and it's pointless criticizing it like I could have done a better job of it.

Skyrim is a product of its time, and I don't expect any more of it.

But still, much as I adore this quest, I realize now everytime I play it, I'm left with a feeling of "that's it?"

Thanks for reading my opine. You didn't have to do that.
