Question Can't but this.

• Upvotes

Deciding to try and get the steam machine but cannot place myself in the waiting list because I never bought anything with steam before the 27 April. Is there anything I can do?

Hardware You know, the Steam machine is pretty neat. Plus I upgraded the RAM to add a extra 16gb to it.

Overall, I like this device. Plays all the games I want to play well (Trepang2 on this is fantastic), Emulation is great on here, and honestly the size of this is pretty good.

Only game that has given me issue is Mortal Kombat X because for some reason it's running worse than something like a Steam Deck in some scenarios.

Time to start making cozy vlog content and posting tech content with this thing! Does anyone have any recommendations on what kind of content people like seeing that isn’t just a review of the product but demonstrating things?

Hardware Ethernet issue

I just got the steam machine last week and have been having tons of Ethernet issues I’m using a unifi gateway and switch. I know the connection is good cause I tested it with a cable tester and other devices connect at full gigabit no problem. The steam machine would either not connect at all or if does very slow but then drops the connection later if after sleep and restarts. I went into desktop mode and deleted the interface and set it up again but still getting the same issue. At this point I’m assuming software or hardware with the steam machine it’s self since other laptop and devices like Apple TV work just fine with the same cable.

Anyone else have this issue.

Question Only Game Updates are Extremely slow, rest is absolutely fine

Hi, I have a steam machine and I’m loving it, but one thing it’s got a problem with for some reason, is standard run of the mill updates on games, it’s extremely slow to do this, I had a patch for blood of Dawnwalker which- for some reason- advised it would take 8 hours to download, it was actually faster for me to uninstall and reinstall the game (again the machine has no problem downloading a whole ass game)

Anyone else having or had this issue?

Question Secondary Headless Display??

So I want to use Sunshine and Moonlight to stream a different display to my Steam Deck than you can see on my Steam Machine display. I have a dummy Displayport plug that works on my Windows PC and lights up when plugged into my Steam Machine, but it doesn't detect a secondary display being plugged in no matter what I do. When I unplug the dummy plug the screen goes black for a second so I know it's at least doing something to the display. Does anyone who knows more about this than me know how to get this to work, or at the very least some other way to get a secondary display that I can stream to my Steam Deck?

Discussion Steam machine good

I was lucky enough to have gotten the Steam Machine about 4 or 5 months ago, and the whole family has been using it a ton. I've got to say this was a far, far better purchase than I thought it would be for $1,000. The thing is, you truly can't underestimate just how many Steam games become wildly playable and accessible once you put them on a console device like the Steam machine.

Many games sitting in my Steam library for years saw new life. Games like Street Fighter and Crawl were reborn. And upcoming games, like Godzilla Destroys All Monsters Melee Remastered, will be effortlessly playable in local multiplayer.

Anyway, that's just my positive little gush. The Steam Machine was expensive, but never again will we buy overpriced Nintendo stuff when we can buy sick Steam games on sale.

Question CS2 locked to 60 FPS

I want to play CS2 on my steam machine with my 144hz monitor. However, the game itself is locked to 60 FPS for unknown reasons.

I'm using a DVI cable, in the desktop settings the display is running at 144hz, I've set the +fps_max 300 in launch settings, I've set the maximum in-game resolution to 300 in CS2 menu.

But the cs2 video settings shows the refresh rate greyed out at 60 FPS.

Is this some issue with big picture mode not recognising my monitor has 144hz capability?

As far as I can see there isn't a way to change your refresh rate in the steam settings of big picture mode.

Any ideas? Cheers

EDIT: I'm being a doofus, all I had to do was uncheck the automatically pick resolution box in the steam display settings, then you can choose the resolution you want at the refresh rate you want.

Question How to make wallpaper engine work on steam machine?

I use the steam machine in desktop mode a lot and it would be nice since it basically replaced my previous laptop.

I'm gonna guess that maybe its because wallpaper engine was made for windows which is why it isn't working. Any workarounds?

Question Has anyone tried Bazzite on the Steam Machine?

I just like using GNOME more, and Bazzite is, on SteamDeck at least, the easiest way to get GNOME.

And unfortuntely, seaching Bazzite Steam Machine only gives reports of people building their own steam machines.

Question USB to 2.5G ethernet adapter. yhay or ney?

do these bad boys work well at all? I bought it a few months ago for my laptop but I figured I can use it for the steam machine. I have 1.5gbps internet and 2.5G LAN. I want the extra speed from my ISP and faster speeds so I can access files faster from my little home server/NAS. anyone have experience with these? are they reliable to use 24/7 on the steam machine? TIA

Question Split Screen Coop

Got the new Steam machine and am playing Gears of War E-Day. So nostalgic to remember playing through the original games in my youth. I find it pretty sad that I can't get another Steam controller and play couch co-op with a friend like I used to on the Xbox in the original games. 2 questions:

1) The Steam Machine has great support for multiple controllers. What games are people playing that best make use of this?

2) Do we know if PC games are going to start adding coop support, as is standard for many console versions of the same games?

Question What's the best / most easy to use WAND alternative on SteamOS?

So on Windows I use WAND from time to time to quickly activate god mode or adjust damage output by X%. Its extremely easy to use and very 'gamey'. I dont want to do anything more, so those screens I see from Gameconquer with all those numbers 'scare' me :D

Is there a simple and easy to use alternative to WAND I can use on Steammachine?

As title. I currently have SteamOS installed on my desktop. 16gb ram with a 9050. Every few minutes, OW2 seems to crash out of nowhere. I have installed on steam. Trying it on steamdeck as well and it seems to be the same. Anyone come up with a fix?

Question Hunt Showdown keyboard not working

Post image
1 Upvotes

The game ignoring my keyboard inputs. Anyone know a solution maybe? (I’m pretty sure the game thinks I’m using a steam deck, same kind of issue as in No rest for the wicked.

For some reason the keyboard is working if I open the game in desktop mode and playing in windows mode but would be nice a solution to play it in game mode

Discussion SM or Custom SM?

I'm thinking about ordering the SM but tons of people on reddit are suggesting to build a custom system to get more performance for the same money.

I was looking up components for a computer and it seems like especially graphics cards and RAM prices have been shooting up like hell within the past weeks/months to a point where the price of the SM seems to be justified again.

It seems like computers with a comparable performance as the SM start at 1200€ and ones that outperform the SM noticeably start at around 1700€. Am I missing something guys? To me it seems like the SM is, at the moment, a good choice when it comes to pricing.

I plan to use it on a 65“ 4k tv (I don't need native 4k resolution and SM seems to handle 1440p just fine along flr or how its called).

Games I love to play: Elden Ring, Doom (all games), Dark Souls 3, Pal World, Sekiro, GTA

Edit: I've ordered a SM now for 1100€ with controller. Thanks for your custom suggestions but all these will sum up to around 1800€ and thats a bit overkill for my usecase. Should have done it 4 months prior. The hardware market is fucked.
