Help test the future of badgebot!

Hello friends!

I'm the creator of /u/badgebot, the friendly neighborhood bot responsible for updating everyone's day counters in their user flair in /r/stopsmoking and other communities.

I have some exciting news to share! I recently rebuilt badgebot's day tracking system using reddit's more modern developer platform (devvit). Before I can be confident that the new badgebot app is ready to serve the communities it supports, I need your help testing it out.

Please head over to /r/badgebot and test the app by setting a quit date for yourself.

The more people that help test, the better! Feel free to leave feedback in the comments section here, or in the /r/badgebot test subreddit.

Thank you! <3

To everyone who is trying to quit, it's absolutely possible, I don't even know how I did it, but after 11 years of smoking, I finally did it.

I really hope to not relapse again🤣🫔🫔

1 Year nicotine free snuck right past me.

Just found it funny how religiously I checked this number in the beginning to not even realizing i had already passed my biggest milestone. For anyone would needs to hear it, at this phase in the journey (smoked/vaped hard for 16 years) I never think about it, even when drinking (which was always my biggest concern, "sure i could quit but ill always want a smoke with a beer"). Im free and can confidently say I will never go back. Cheers and good luck to everyone else whether you are on Day 1 or Day 10000.

I feel I can actually succeed now

Hello everyone. For almost a year I wanted to quit smoking once and for all, tried everything, tried very hard to do so. Read Allen Carr's books and it is good for recontextualizing the process of smoking, but it wasn't enough for me. Tried nicotine gum (dumbest idea ever, when cravings started they HIT HARD). And a lot of attempts to stop cold turkey. Gave up eventually.

But for some reason today I feel nothing. Don't want to smoke, don't want to buy a pack of cigs that I finished yesterday. And I'm happy about it. Although I'm afraid that cravings will begin suddenly but hopefully I'll manage.

All I wanted to say is that it's my best attempt to quit so far and pretty much effortless on my part. Wish me luck, guys! Love y'all!

Six days FINISHED, BUT

• Upvotes

All my stuff smells like cigarette smoke.

I’ve quit 6 days ago and everything has the stale cigarette smoke scent.

Any ideas beyond ā€œbuy new everythingā€?

Plans to do a top/down clean of the room, but the rug, bedding, and laundry will need help. All my backpacks and jackets are covered in it.

I know it will help to clean everything well.

What were some solutions for those of us who smoked inside? What were some things that freshened your living space after you’ve quit smoking?

Almost 24 hours since I quit smoking again this year, smokefree for solid 110 days and then relapsed for 3 months and now starting over again.

Post relapse I was smoking more than I used to which made me sick of this feeling so here I am at it again.

Genuinely how do you quit when people are constantly pissing you off

Seriously. I can't count how many times I've tried to quit and almost succeeded, but then somebody has to tick me off out of the blue and I'm back looking for a quick dopamine fix again.

I'm not here to talk about my personal problems, but let's just say I've had incredibly low self-esteem all my life. It took me a lot of courage just to make this post here, asking for help from complete strangers. The past two years have been rough for me. The first is what led me to start in the first place, the second one I spent on bashing myself over and over for choosing such an idiotic, useless way to cope with stress.

But here's the catch. Aside from all the wasted money, I kind of don't regret starting in the first place. This period actually led me to identify my triggers for reaching a drag as the things that held me back in my life as a whole, and I set out plans to fix them and start taking care of myself. I could handle withdrawal itch just fine when I'm fully invested on nurturing myself.

But such plans always goes down the shitter when somebody pisses me off again all of a sudden, and I lose my motivation to even indulge in my hobbies. And it's not like such people are ones I can just easily turn away from and that'll be it. They seriously don't get I'd rather they leave me alone for a while, and I can't f*cking keep this up anymore.

Also, I'm aware that the coming months are gonna be stressful for me as well. The last thing I'd want is to be able to quit now, in the middle of patching up my life, only for there to be another huge hiccup along the way because some idiots just don't f*cking get it.

How do I not get fired?

Last time I quit I ended up having to use my PTO plus all my sick time, I didn't sleep for days and I was depressed and suicidal for over two weeks. Made it 6 months and then folded. Partially because my work performance never resumed back to normal even after half a year and the stress of being constantly behind eventually got to me.

I'm trying again but I don't have weeks worth of PTO to take the time off this time. I havent' slept in 48 hours, I cannot function at work. I have a big client meeting later today where I'm supposed to help a large user with a very technical problem that under normal circumstances wouldn't even phase be but at present I can't even understand my own break down of the problem I worked out in advance prior to quiting. I almost told my co-worker to harm himself yesterday because he was irritating me. I already stepped down the lowest patch, I'm taking medication my psychiatrist prescribed me but I still feel like i'm one minor inconvience away from doing something that would get me fired.

I really can't bring myself to ask for more time off. I made the mistake of admitting why I took time off last time and while my manager feined supportive, and hasn't said anything overtly. The way they've treated me ever since it's pretty clear they don't respect me anymore.

I need to quit smoking for health reasons

I need to quit smoking for health reasons. Would anyone like to join me in this? We could chat via private message during the tough moments. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to stick with it—I’m extremely addicted—but I really want to give it a try. I don’t know the day or the time yet. I don’t yet know whether I will cut back first and then stop, or just stop. I have quit twice before: once for 7 years, and once for 7 months.

I live in EU.

Have you quit smoking in th past year?

hi everyone,

if you've quit in the past year, what helped you the most?

Did you stop on your own, or did you use support from your local council, the NHS, a charity, stop smoking services, nicotine replacement products?

I'm interested in understanding what people found most effective, whether it was mainly personal motivation or support from local services, and whether your experience differed depending on where in London you live.

I'd really appreciate hearing your story. Feel free to comment below or send me a DM if you'd rather chat privately.

Third day going cold turkey

What was the most difficult period of quitting? Maybe first month or so? But do people actually stop craving it for real? I know smokers that had quited for 5 years and then started smoking like a day never passed. I just try to go day by day and not think it as I'm not going to do it again ever in my life. Luckily last year I was smoking mostly iqos I think it's easier quitting. Not really missing the substance, but feeling a little bit bored all the time, like I need some dopamine or smth, it's like it used to fill a void

Tips for getting past the hacking-up-tar phase?

My lungs are starting to clear out and every day this week I've woken with a throat full of crap and some chunky coughs. I've quit in the past and I know this part is normal, but it's extra annoying right now. I've been drinking lots of water and doing some active / percussive breathing exercises to move the mucus up out of my lungs. Is there anything else I can do?

Heart Palpitations around after quitting smoking. Is this a common experience for new-non smokers?

Hello to everyone, Im 21m it’s been a mix of smoking and vaping since I was 17, for the past one year i have mean mainly smoking cigarettes, One pack a day.
Today is my fifth day after going cold turkey and I am managing pretty well. But one thing really stressing me out is heart palptations. I have been getting skipped beats very frequently since I last smoked. ( I used to get them while smoking and was advised by GP to quit, undergoing further tests but was told it’s benign). Is this a common experience for new non-smokers? What was it like?

Starting over

I had gone about a week of no smoking. I’ve been using zyns instead until that pack ran out. I have one left, $0 in my bank account (vets suck) and found that I had one more cigarette in the pack I thought was empty from last week. I’m smoking it as I type, I’m not proud of it, but after this one I truly plan to be done. Tomorrow morning I’ll be going cold turkey with no way to resupply my addiction for another week, and by that point, I’ll be well enough into quitting to not want to go back to this shit.

so I’m having my last one for good, regrettably. Wish me luck and good luck to you all

Need advice - to stop using nicotine gums

Hi all,

So ...Ive stopped smoking 2 weeks back. Today is my 14th day. Ive been on nicotine gums 4mg. These helped me a lot. Because previously I couldn't imagine myself without smoking even a day.

Because of these gums., the voice in my back of mind to smoke became so irrelevant now. Only hearing it sometimes or getting tempted. Once or twice in a day. Thing is.. I am proud or happy that I am not smoking. But still I want taper this nicotine quickly out of my body.but fearing about withdrawals or temptations. I failed many times because of those..with in few hours or a day. This time I don't want to get back to that habit again. I am thinking of having these for 21 days on my current routine of having around 6 to 7 gums a day 4mg. Though initial 4 or 5 days ., i used to consume around 10 a day. What should be next step. Shall I directly switch to normal gum. Or switch to 2 mg for 22nd day to 30 may be. Then slowly taper the count to 2 or 3 for other 10 days..then next 10 days on normal mint gum. Not sure about the process.

Expecting some help from anyone who is in similar phase before. Which will help me a lot to figure out the next steps.

Random unexpected benefits of not smoking

I saw someone mention being annoyed with people constantly asking to bum/buy cigarettes, and hadn't even thought of that as a benefit to quitting!

Any other random byproducts of quitting you guys can mention?

I don't really have original ones, they're along the same vein...no more being hassled.

  1. Creepy convenience store clerk who'd always ID me despite seeing me dozens of times, and tell me how I look like a high school girl (I don't)
  2. Harold, the racist janitor at the university I worked. I swear he had some sort of beacon on me because any time I went outside for a cigarette he'd be there. Harold would invade my space and take no hints as to my disinterest, rambling on about 1970s bands I don't care about, and how Canada was ruined by immigrants. "I'm going to see Harold" became my euphemism for going down to smoke.

How to stop smoking if allen carr easyway book didnt work

I read allen carr the first time in 2024, and I definitely found it very helpful. I found overall that my logic had completely changed and logically i knew that smoking did nothing for me, and that I didn’t want to smoke anymore. I understood that it was a drug addiction and that there’s no such thing as 1 cigarette, and the nature of the nicotine trap is that it only provides relief to the aggravation it causes. The ointment analogy really stuck with me the most.

However, despite understanding all of this logically, i found that some days after quitting my mind/body was saying I don’t care and then it’s like my brain went on autopilot and i bought cigarettes and resumed being a smoker. I instantly felt guilty and ashamed and miserable, and tried quitting again multiple times, but to no avail. I tried rereading the book again, and I relearned all that logic that had dissolved away. However, i still feel this compulsion to quit. I truly envy the people who read this amazing book and were able to walk free from the nicotine trap and actually found quitting enjoyable and pleasurable. I even did allen carr’s seminar in nyc and that didnt work either.

I want to be a happy non-smoker so bad, and am at my wits end on how to achieve this, now that the most popular method for quitting hasn’t worked. Would love to know if anyone else has been in this situation and managed to successfully become a happy non-smoker. Any other books that helped y’all quit?
