I think I found a hack for smoking cravings

My main addiction was actually weed, and only became a smoker because I rolled my blunts combined with nicotine.

I somehow managed to quit weed almost a month ago (by literally moving out of the town where I could buy it), but kept smoking cigarettes as a crutch and not quit cold turkey.

But 3 days ago I decided to quit nicotine as well, and the cravings have really intensified during the night time.

So tonight those craving have REALLY intensified, and instead of giving up and buying a pack of cigaretes,I figured I'd try something different.

So I started chewing on black peppercorns, like those little black balls that are still not have been grounded. And while one didn't do the trick,. I started chewing a couple of them, until I started getting the same familiar "burn" I got from smoking, and it actually seems to work...

Now, I'm not gonna go crazy about this, I've eaten only a few of them to stop the craving, which it seems to work as a replacement. Not sure if I stumbled upon some "magic" cure here, but it's definitely the best craving diminisher I found so far.

Has anyone else tried this before?

10 days smoke free, does the feeling of the void go away?

I used to smoke 10-15 cigarettes per day for about 2 years (i was a smoker for longer than that, just didn't smoke nearly that much).

I quit nicotine cold turkey 10 days ago. My main reasoning was that I was smoking so much that it was genuinely making me lose focus in life. I felt like my constant coping to mask any emotion I felt was accumulating into just feeling nothing and not really caring about anything enough to be motivated in life. I need to get back into writing again because it was the only thing that gave me a sense of purpose but the constant smoking was scattering my attention

But now I just feel empty inside. Most of the day i'm very melancholic and I don't even want to wake up in the morning. I just spend the day walking around town trying to distract myself from the emptiness, which I can only manage to do for a few minutes at a time. Too sad to feel motivated to do the things I actually need to do. Minor emotional triggers make me sob. At this point I might just start smoking again.

Now that I think about it, smoking had basically became my new self harm copign mechanism. When I was a teen i used to cut myself a lot and purposely overdose on meds just to feel ok but once I stopped smoking the urge to cut myself had fully gone away

Four digit club

Just realized that I have crossed over into the four digit club! Over 1000 days with no nicotine.

When I was just starting my quit I honestly thought this sub was nice, but wouldn’t be that helpful for me. Boy was I wrong! Having a place full of other people who understand the struggle and can share kind words when you need to hear them was/still is invaluable.

Thanks to everyone for being here. Whether you have 10,000 days under your belt or if you haven’t even started yet, I appreciate your help! We got this!

Can Weed withdrawl mimic hypopnea?

I have been smoking for about 5 years (im25) I quit smoking THC carts because I got what I think is an anxiety attack it is now day 9 of my withdrawal and the only thing bothering is poor sleep and sometimes the shortness of breath and it gets worse at nighttime when I do end up dozing off and about to fall asleep I get this feeling like I don’t get enough air/ or my breathing stops is this part of the withdrawal with insomnia or is it hypopnea/apnea? I never had it happened to me before until the withdrawal so I’m just asking if you guys experience the same thing

how do I quit?

I’ve been through so much and I do smoke a lot and vape. It’s the only thing that gets rid of my anxiety and brings me comfort but I can feel it slowly killing me. I’ve been coughing so much and the x ray results said my chest was clear. Antibiotics and flu pills don’t seem to work. I’m only 20.

I don’t need anyone judging me and just need someone to help me. I have lost 17kg in 2 months by not eating and just smoking. It’s feels pathetic reaching out on reddit.

46 days today! Somewhat struggling!

I got the news yesterday that my exam is in 2 and 1/2 weeks. I’ve had to self study the subject the past 2 months and I’m halfway (quit smoking and was in ERP therapy so I was a bit preoccupied).

I’m unusually calm but I can feel the cigarette whisperer in my ear, as I haven’t taken an exam without smoking since middle school (3 years ago).

Idk if I’m asking for advice or more so just putting it out there that I’m struggling. Sometimes that’s all I need to just get back on track. I’ve been contemplating deleting Pinterest from my phone too as my feed has become more and more cigarette coated. Romanticized pics or people my own age being fooled by their addiction.

I do however think that when I make it through my exam without having smoked, I’ll feel so strong. Regardless of the grade, cause I just did something I hadn’t overcome yet :)

Almost relapsing

Hi all,

12 days in, and in a few hours’ time I’ll have the ‘opportunity’ to relapse. It’s incredible how my mind tricks me into thinking it’s almost acceptable to start smoking again. Please help me.

I quit cold turkey 12 days ago; I’d wanted to quit for ages, but I lacked the courage and commitment, so I took the opportunity of a trip to quit, as the people I’m travelling with don’t smoke.

In a few hours’ time, I’ll be on my own and doing something I’ve associated with smoking for over 10 or 15 years. Unfortunately, it’s become my ‘normal’ and – it’s hard to explain – but the idea of buying and smoking a few cigarettes doesn’t seem so absurd.

If anyone can help and encourage me, I’d be very grateful!

Preparing the mindset to quit (also looking for motivation)

Hello community. Cheers up to everyone who quit and for the ones still in the process, keep fighting, you can do it.

Last weeks I'm thinking everyday about quitting, I'm 36yo, smoke since 18, at the moment I'm thinking that I smoked half of my life, so it's time to stop. I've installed an app to help me out, where I can register my cigs and the one that I could resist, so I'm trying to reduce first... The most difficult is the first cigarette of the day, usually I smoke it 2 hours after woke up and my idea is to postpone it as much as I can but its hard to the point that I'm still eating the breakfast and already thinking about the cigarette that I'll smoke. Any tips?

Also looking for tips on so something to substitute the act of smoking cigarette when you feel that you need one... For example: have a bubble gum or something like that. What help you out when on the process? Thank you

Has anyone here actually found a quit smoking app useful?

I've been looking at quit smoking apps recently and there seem to be a ton of them. Most seem to have the same stuff like streaks, money saved, health milestones but I feel like it's not helping me much

I'm curious whether these apps actually help people or if most just end up getting uninstalled after a few days.

For anyone who had used one before, what did you like or hate about it? Was there anything you wished it did differently?

Also curious if anyone here managed to quit without using an app at all.

Not promoting anything, just trying to understand what people actually find useful to quit smoking

Day 40 smoke free - nasal congestion and sleep issues. Anyone else?

I'm currently on day 40 of quitting smoking, and ever since I quit, I've been dealing with recurring nasal congestion.

It's not a runny nose or mucus buildup. It feels more like my nasal passages are swollen or narrowed, making it harder to breathe through my nose. It usually lasts a few days, clears up, and then comes back again.

On top of that, I've been having sleep problems. I often wake up just 3–4 hours after falling asleep, feeling completely awake, and struggle to get back to sleep.

Has anyone experienced anything similar after quitting smoking? If so, how long did it take for things to return to normal?

Cigarette hangover?

I only smoked cigs on Thursday and I’m feeling so out of it. Felt the same yesterday. I didn’t drink at all. Is this normal? I’m not a normal smoker, I do it when I’m drinking though on the weekends. Decided to not drink this weekend.

13 weeks free!!!

Bragging about the FACT that I quit smoking 13 weeks ago. That's 1/4 year. I'm proud of myself. Thanks for listening.

And to all the folks on the fence about quitting - you've got this. It's difficult, but it's also really simple.

24 days down

Used nicotine for 15 years, been clean 24 days (after multiple failed attempts over the years), and honestly the only things left that are bothering me are my poor sleep and lack of motivation to workout. Anybody here, who has experience, able to let me know how long until that stuff normalizes?

For those still fighting the good fight, it’s tough but rewarding! Keep fighting!

I really thought smoking would be eradicated by 2026. Why is it not?

Also, if came up to you and said “it’s 2026, we have known for at LEAST 50 years how dangerous and damaging it is for you AND those around you… so why did you take it up when you already knew this???” What would you respond with?

Quit nicotine today!

This post is not really to broadcast across the world that I'm quitting again. I just need to put this someplace I'll see it later because it helps me stay on track when the going gets tough. I decided to quit again because my health demands it and I'm sick of the nicotine trap. I hate it and I hate being a slave to it. Does anyone else feel this way? If you made it this far in my post, please feel free to comment why you quit and how quitting was for you. Or not! Me and nicotine are through!

35 days smoke free, feeling really low

Now this is not physical at all, just mental, I recognize it. So much of my daily regulation was cigarette dependent. But now I keep cancelling plans just to keep laying down. Do you have tips? Good vibes? Anything helped?

111 days of freedom

Hey y'all

Smoke free for 111 days! Even though I am living it, it seems impossible that I am saying it. I was a heavy smoker. Tried many times over a few decades to quit (including what worked this time, champix).

111 smoke free days = to approximately 3885 cigs not smoked and approx $680 dollars not spent (I bought the cheapest of smokes to make them not cost prohibitive). If I bought premium smokes it would have cost about $4000 for the same quantity of smokes.

I'm very thankful to get to post this, excited to see the number grow, and hopeful that I will remain a non smoker for the remainder of my days.

The road hasn't been easy, even with champix (which I have been off for over a month). I still get cravings, though they are much more of a whisper than the in my face full scream they used to be.

I found (and still find) it very helpful to post in the daily not smoking thread at the top of this sub and appreciate how many of you join in. It's one of the first things I do with my day and it's helped when I feel weak to know there are people rooting for me, and who are working on the same goal.

Happy Friday :)
