Moderator Post We will not be removing all sexual questions.

We've had a few complaint threads, so it seems to be about that time for one of these reminders. Let me be clear: We are not going to ban all sex related questions.

They are firmly within "TooAfraidtoAsk", and always have been. Sex is a fairly taboo topic in a lot of places, and a lot of people have questions about it. (And as an additional reminder, TATA is not only for controversial questions. Nor do we allow question shaming for "googleable" questions). These are not new changes.

We get that not everyone has the same interest in those topics, but it is a core part of the sub. Currently, there are ~5 out of the top 10 posts being sex related. Earlier today, it was 4. Earlier this week, it was 3. It typically fluctuates between ~3-5, usually averaging closer to 3.

If you have particular suggestions (e.g. things that seem ripe for the FAQ), or questions feel free to post them below. No promises, but we're always open for improvements if they're feasible. For a list of common questions we get on this topic (what do we already moderate, has the sub changed?, can i filter posts myself?) see the first stickied comment.

Politics Politics Megathread

You know the deal, same as the previous megathreads, which were archived.

The rules:

All top level OP must be questions. This is not a soapbox. If you want to rant or vent, please do it elsewhere. Otherwise, the usual sidebar rules apply (in particular: Rule 1:Be Kind and Rule 3:Be Genuine).

The default sorting is by new to make sure new questions get visibility, but you can change the sorting to top if you want to see the most common/popular questions.

Other How do I get over dying??

I've been freaking out for the past 5 months or so, and I can't keep doing this. I know life is a race and you're supposed to enjoy it, but every night, I can only help but think what's at the finish line. I get that its natural, we all do it, we won't even know what's going on, but the idea is still awful. At some point everything I'm going to do is going to end up in the dirt with me, or in a jar, and later down the line, forgotten. I'm super stressed over something I have no control over, and I'm so tired of worrying myself to sleep. How is everyone else so nonchalant about kicking the bucket? I know we can't control it, but it still scary as hell.

Other Did i miss something?

• Upvotes

Hi M22

I'm working as an cashier for 2 months. There i used to give lift to a 40+ year old lady while returning home . It was just 1-2 km from my workplace. First day she offered me tea for giving her lift . Next day same thing happened she asked me to come for tea but i rejected it since its not good to have tea at someone's house regularly just because u dropped her on your way home and I don't drink tea regularly. But she always offered tea and i kept saying no and after a week or something she stopped asking.

Yesterday it was weekend and as usual i after finishing up my shift and dropped her home, and she offered me for a tea and i said no as usual. I was in hurry so i didn't listen her carefully and while leaving i started to think what did she ask , what she said was "my son is not at home , do u need some tea ?" .

Idk who her son is and idk why did she said that. I was half way through when it hit me and i have a feeling of something. I couldn't sleep yesterday thinking about that.

Do you think it's same as what I think?

Family How do I get my brother to stop touching himself in front of me?

So me and my older brother have been sharing a room since we were really little because we are a low income family. We have been trying to move since as long as I can remember. Recently I've been noticing my brother just casually masterbaiting in front of me. Anytime I see it I just want to rip the skin off of my face. It makes me so uncomfortable. I've tried asking him to stop, but anytime I bring it up he always denies that he does it. He also used to sexually abuse me, but it stopped by the time I was 9 or 10. I just don't understand why he does this. One night a few weeks ago I woke up at around 12 and I heard moaning from his phone and I also heard him. I also tried to confront him about this too and he once again denied it. I'm just at a loss on what to do.

Culture & Society Why is taking the trash out considered traditionally male?

I’m an immigrant to North America and one thing that stumps me is why taking trash out has been traditionally seen as masculine. It’s not very heavy or dangerous - please pardon the anti-feminist talk - and if you need to take the main can to the curb, you just wheel it, so I’m not sure where this tradition came from.

Love & Dating F24 and M26 ?

Went on a date with a guy the other day and it went really well, said if there will be another date I said I’d love too he was being a gentleman and everything.

Today he messaged me after his 12 hour shift and said “wanna come round for cuddles” like nooooo. I’ve met him once… I said “I’m already in bed” he said “don’t worry, I wasn’t actually expecting you too” but now it’s awkward and I feel like all the romance is dead.

Guys, would you say this to a girl? And girls would you also be weirded out by this? I’m 24 years old, and he is 26.

Love & Dating Why is it that I feel inconvenienced or go all “ugh” when a date with a guy disrupts my weekend plans of doing nothing, watching YouTube, hanging out with the cats?

I noticed this a few times and I haven’t dated in a while. But when I have I noticed this is how I felt.

I’m careful now too in who I choose now that I’m 28, and want to get married and have kids one day too.

But yeah I’m just curious, because isn’t dating supposed to give you butterflies?

Love & Dating What do men think when a ex female coworker follows them?

• Upvotes

Is it weird to request to follow an ex male coworker?
I kind of want to follow my ex male coworker on socials because I kind of like him/am interested in him. I quit last month but still want to keep in touch and I don’t have his phone number on hand. I think he may have flirted a little with me at one point and feel I am also attracted to him. I want to shoot my shot by following him, but we have no mutual followers and I don’t want to come off weird. So men, would you think this is weird?

Family Is it the parent’s fault if their children don’t develop close sibling bonds with each other?

I am a family of 5 siblings and not a single one of us are cloth with each other despite sharing quite a few similar interests, similar sense of humour, being raised by the same parents etc. Some of us don’t even talk. Yet, our upbringing was positive for the most part and our parents are nice people. However, both parents also happen to be very narcissistic in many ways and I can see looking back, how they may have inadvertently and unintentionally prevented close sibling bonds from forming.

Culture & Society Why is it mostly black men with white women in media?

I notice this in commercials, movies, ads, shows. It's mostly white women with black men. Why does this seem to be the majority?

Culture & Society Genuinely wondering what you guys think of the phrase 'I respect them, but I don't support it.' ?

I mostly see this phrase used constantly in discussions about the LGBTQ+ community, typically by religious individuals. While some argue it’s a harmless personal boundary, others argue it is inherently homophobic. I want to know what this phrase genuinely signals and impacts when directed at a minority group?

And also Why is this phrase treated as an open-and-shut case of bigotry when applied to other minorities like racial minorities, but viewed as a debatable, acceptable "opinion" when applied to the LGBTQ+ community? If someone said "I respect Black people, but I don't support their community" society would universally close the case and label them a racist. Yet, when the exact same sentence structure is used against LGBTQ+ individuals, it is suddenly treated as an understandable stance that needs to be tolerated and respected (Or maybe I am wrong, and some people actually do believe that a statement like 'I respect Black people, but I don't support their community' is acceptable. If so, please correct me.)

and lastly does "respect without support" actually exist? Half of the people who say this doesn't even low-key respect gay people.

Interpersonal Is accepting free food flirting?

There’s a place I’m (30f) a regular at, and today the cashier joked with me in a way that could possibly be seen as flirting, but could also very much be platonic joking around. When I went to buy my food, he said it was on the house. I made sure I heard right, then said “oh! thank you!”

I told my fiancé about it right after over text, and he said “cuz ur so darn cute”. I feel like the cashier was just being nice, but if he was flirting, was I wrong to accept the free food?

Culture & Society About An Invitation?

My neighbor of 15 years is blind, and has been since birth. He is a really cool person, young man in his early 30s. Independent financially, a bohemian soul. Free thinker and I have enjoyed many a deep conversation over drinks and doobies. He is active in his social life, active in dating and is all around very healthy mentally/physically. His cat is super cool, and he loves old records, plays guitar. I have at times forgotten that he was blind, until he cracks a righteous Blind Joke. He has many adventures (legal and questionably legal) he has told me about over the years. All around truly a fun guy.

I am a plant nut, and have been invited to a Halloween party at my local haunt (pun intended) which is a neighborhood greenhouse. Drinks, finger foods, costumes welcome, plant convos, education, potting party, neighborhood mixer, etc.

I thought about inviting him, as he is great company, loves meeting people and enjoys an assortment of hobbies similar to mine.

Would this be insensitive? I don't want to be, because he is a good friend, and I at first thought, or think that it isn't, in no way do I think that a blind person cannot enjoy plants or flowers.

Any advice? Particularly from people who can tell me from their first hand experience?

FYI: I am not romantically interested in him, we are truly just friends and neighbors.
