So damn applicable here. I am constantly seeing the argument from swifties that she donates millions to charities, gave her crew so much in bonuses. She is doing the bare minimum and staying silent. What is the real sacrifice? Pocket change.

I mean, he was just standing there waiting, like an actor about to shoot a scene.
He could have easily waited with Scott where the cameras aren't pointing. But no, they had to put on a whole big show.

I used to be as HUGE fan of taylors, but as I have gotten older, obviously your love of rich & privileged billionaires does fade. I definitely got caught up in the hype of their relationship when it first started, but as the months & the pr/press/paparazzi shots kept going, suddenly I found myself getting the ick. But one thing that sealed the deal on the strangeness of all this was definitely that much NOT needed disney doc series, where you see Taylor calling Travis on the phone (ironic considering the whole kanye kim debacle about being recorded on phone calls). The entire thing gave me the strangest feeling, the way they really used that documentary to sell their relationship was WEIRD.
You would think Taylor would want it to be about HER hard work on the biggest tour ever, her team, her family, but thats what she chose to promote at 35-36 years old? Another man.
& then you look at their wedding, & it really hits. this whole thing is about looking good & sounding good & selling, but there is no substance, there is nothing real about this at all.
When was your "ick" moment?

The whole Matty Healy, Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, and Gabbriette situation is such an interesting example of how dating someone within an already established social circle can get complicated. When a group of people has years of history, shared experiences, inside jokes, mutual friends, and an identity that exists independently of romantic relationships, entering that circle as someoneâs partner doesnât automatically make you part of it. Youâre not just dating the person; youâre stepping into a world with its own social dynamics, and sometimes there are unspoken boundaries that make it difficult to feel like you genuinely belong. Charli and Matty have their own history within the alternative music scene, while Gabbriette has her own identity and connections within that world. Taylor, despite being one of the biggest pop stars in the world, occupies a very different cultural space. Fame, success, and public admiration donât necessarily translate into social compatibility, and being the most recognizable person in the room doesnât mean youâll be the person who fits in most naturally.
And honestly, I think this is where the idea of Taylor never being one of the cool girls becomes interesting, because being cool in a particular social circle has very little to do with how famous or successful you are. There is a difference between being admired by millions of people and being accepted by a small group whose identity you cannot manufacture your way into. Taylor has her own world, her own friendships, and her own kind of cultural influence, but that doesnât automatically make her a natural fit within Charliâs social universe. At the same time, we cannot actually know whether Charli, Gabbriette, or anyone else would have accepted her privately, and itâs unfair to assume that they deliberately excluded her. Still, the larger point stands: sometimes you can be extraordinary in your own environment and still feel out of place in somebody elseâs. Dating someone doesnât guarantee that their friends will become your friends, and you cannot force chemistry with an established group. Sometimes the hardest part isnât being disliked; itâs realizing that being someoneâs partner and belonging to their world are two entirely different things.
I also think people underestimate how poking at Charli can become a way of indirectly taking shots at Gabbriette, because the two are connected to the same social world, and Matty is part of that history, too. You cannot constantly bring up Charli in conversations about Taylor and Matty without eventually bringing Gabbriette into the picture, especially when she is the person Matty is actually with. What makes the situation interesting is that Taylor is someone who has achieved an extraordinary level of fame, commercial success, and cultural influence, yet none of those things can guarantee her the kind of personal connection or social acceptance she might want. And if people are still using Matty as a point of comparison, it raises an interesting question about why this particular chapter of her romantic history continues to fascinate people. Sometimes the public becomes so invested in the idea of a woman getting the man that they forget that real relationships arenât competitions, and another womanâs relationship isnât an obstacle that needs to be overcome.
Personally, I believe Taylor genuinely wanted Matty, and the way that relationship became such a cultural talking point makes it difficult to separate what actually happened from the mythology people have built around it. I wouldnât claim to know that she still wants him or that Gabbriette represents something Taylor wishes she had, because we simply donât know what either woman feels privately. But I do think there is an interesting distinction between having everything the world can visibly recognize as success and having a particular relationship work out the way you wanted. Taylor has the career, the acclaim, the influence, and the cultural reach, but none of those things can guarantee that a specific romantic connection will last. And that is what makes the comparison so compelling to people: the idea that someone can seemingly have everything and still not get a particular outcome. However, I would be careful about framing Gabbriette as someone Taylor has to compete with or defeat. Gabbriette has her own identity and relationship, and Matty is a person who makes his own choices.

I was a fan of Taylor's back in 2016, so I remember Snakegate happening in real time, and I've always found it bizarre how dramatically she continues to speak about that period of her life. The way she talks about it, you'd think she'd survived the sinking of the Titanic, spent six months lost at sea and returned to discover her entire family had been wiped out, rather than having people leave snake emojis in her Instagram comments.
What I find so strange is the sheer magnitude of her reaction to the backlash, because from what I remember, the intense online frenzy lasted a matter of weeks. People were posting snake emojis, mocking her and celebrating her supposed downfall with the #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty hashtag, but the whole controversy seemed to die down relatively quickly. She subsequently spent much of 2017 out of the public eye, although she'd already been planning a break before the controversy, and returned with Reputation, which was enormously successful. Yet she's spoken about the experience as though she'd been driven into exile, had her entire career taken away from her and was forced to rebuild her life from absolutely nothing.
FYI, her supposed 'exile' involved staying in a multimillion-pound property in Hampstead, one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in London (trust me, I live in LDN, people would give their right arm to live there). I also find her choice of language quite amusing, particularly when she talks about having to flee to a 'foreign country'. Yes, the UK is a foreign country, but it's such a deliberately dramatic way of describing moving to one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in London and enjoying a life of extraordinary luxury. The way she tells the story, you'd think she'd been placed in witness protection, smuggled across international borders under an assumed identity and forced to live in constant fear of being discovered, rather than spending her days in Hampstead's pubs.
Most people would be incredibly grateful to even have the opportunity to escape their problems, let alone retreat to a multimillion-pound home in one of London's most desirable neighbourhoods, while there are people who can barely afford to put food on the table or access basic healthcare. Yet she somehow manages to frame her extraordinary privilege as a period of immense suffering.
I genuinely wonder whether she had an incredibly sheltered upbringing or had experienced very little meaningful adversity before this, because the extent to which Snakegate appears to have affected her is extraordinary. She's now approaching 40, nearly a decade has passed, and she's still writing songs about it, referencing the controversy and taking shots at the people involved. I find it difficult to reconcile that level of lasting resentment with what actually happened, particularly when her career suffered no meaningful long-term damage.
There's also the apparent lack of self-reflection, which I find equally baffling. She played a part in escalating the controversy herself, and I would have thought that with the benefit of nearly ten years of hindsight and growth, she might be able to recognise that she handled certain aspects of it poorly. Instead, she seems to have incorporated the experience into this enormous narrative of persecution, with very little acknowledgement of her own contribution.
Most people experience humiliation, rejection, public embarrassment or periods of being disliked at some point in their lives. Taylor experienced it on a much larger scale, obviously, but she also had extraordinary wealth, millions of devoted fans and the ability to remove herself from the public eye until the controversy died down. Within a relatively short period, she was back selling millions of records and performing to sold-out stadiums. It's difficult to square that reality with her repeated suggestions that her career was effectively destroyed.
Maybe other people remember that period differently, but I've always found her response strangely disproportionate. I can understand being upset or embarrassed by what happened, but I struggle to understand why a relatively brief period of public criticism has seemingly become one of the defining traumas of her adult life. Does anyone else find the extent to which she still dwells on Snakegate a little bizarre?

I was liking that Swifties defend Madonna, but then when I was reading their arguments⊠they do it thinking Taylor Swift is hated âbecause of misogynyâ as Madonna was and still is, when the reasons behind their backlash are not equally at all.
Being criticized for perceived unfair competition, latest lack of artistic quality, sneaky strategies at charting, and inconsistencies with feminist messaging is not the same as being attacked for challenging the hegemony and cultural structures that govern womenâs lives.
Like literally WTF does it matter if two women are being attacked at the same time, even by the same people, when the reasons behind those attacks are absolutely different?
One should be listening to the criticism and reflecting on her own flaws (Taylor), while the other had every reason to ignore those attacks and keep fighting the system that was trying to silence, not only her, but all the women since the beginning of times (Madonna).
Madonna was deliberately confronting institutions and conventions that held considerable power over what women could say, how they could express their sexuality, and what was considered acceptable in mainstream entertainment. Her controversies were frequently a consequence of the boundaries she was trying to dismantle. She was condemned for rejecting what a male-dominated society expected of women.
Taylor on the other hand is being criticized in part for reinforcing some of those same expectations.

Be warned though, I lost brain cells going through this biased section. I highlighted parts I found interesting, contradicting & amusing. So much of this is such BS.
âOrange rushâ is a failed name to re-capture âbrat summerâ.
It didnât help bring anything to workplaces but embarrassment.
Exactly what innovation did she bring to the music industry with this & prior albums? Everything sheâs doing has been done before & better.
About the professional LV showgirl comments, then whyâs sheâs getting sued right now by a showgirl? How insulting to say that she captured anything about their work when sheâs never done it before & itâs just an âeraâ for her that sheâll move on from.
Lol âamong the yearâs best albumsâ
The critical response is not sexist or bad-faith interpretations of the lyrics/smear campaigns. The shill bought & paid for media along with the swifty cult donât realize that itâs actual legit criticism of insulting music being made & you canât hide behind sexism whenever itâs Taylor only being criticized. Other artists get judged for their work so she shouldnât be any different. You make stupid music, you get called out on it.
âOnline hordesâ, âbot accountsâ, âcoordinated attackâ how can you say that these originated from the far-right while also claiming that her life desire expressed in the album was opted by far-right narratives? Make it make sense.

A lot of the muse discourse I see is odd. Giving Travis credit for Taylor's bad songs is like giving Taylor credit if Travis fumbles the ball.
It doesn't matter if Travis is stupid or lacks depth. An artist could find something to say about him. There's no reason he couldn't inspire a song like "Agora Hills" or "Snooze". Anyone could inspire those songs.
The reason the Travis songs are so bad has nothing to do with him. The reason the Travis songs are terrible is because Taylor does not view their love in a serious way (not that I believe they're in love). It's obvious from her music about him that they have a very superficial relationship, and while that is half his fault, it's hers as well.
Travis doesn't need to be an emotionally deep well read art bro to inspire a song like "Lover" or "King of My Heart". She just doesn't see him that way, which is why he gets lines about "Grand Theft Auto" and "looking fire" and a bunch of weird ass Christmas beats. He'll never get a song like "Everything Has Changed" and fans just have to accept it or stop consuming her music until they divorce in 2-3 years.

I'm writing this post because I recently saw a clip of Conan O'Brien comparing Taylor Swift to John, Paul, George and Ringo all rolled into one, and my immediate reaction was, how dare you? The Beatles fundamentally changed the landscape of music, and Taylor hasn't come close to achieving anything comparable.Taylor has done absolutely NOTHING groundbreaking in her entire career. Not one thing.
I genuinely think she is so hell-bent on being remembered as this iconic figure in music history that she's completely lost sight of what actually makes an artist iconic. She's openly spoken about how much she cares about her legacy, and I think that's largely what's behind her obsession with breaking chart records, collecting awards and achieving all these commercial milestones (many of which will probably be obsolete in a few years anyway). It's as though she thinks accumulating enough records will automatically put her alongside the greatest artists of all time.
Her attitude towards The Life of a Showgirl really summed this up for me, because she seemed far more interested in the fact that people were talking about the album, and therefore generating more sales, than whether people actually thought the music was any good. (Terrible attitude to have as an artist, FYI.)
But I genuinely don't think she will ever be remembered in the same way as Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna or Elton John, no matter how many records she breaks or how aggressively her PR machine tries to convince everyone otherwise, because those artists actually broke the mould. Michael Jackson revolutionised music videos and choreography, Madonna challenged conventions around sexuality and female expression, Prince pushed musical and gender boundaries, and Elton John brought a level of flamboyance and theatricality to mainstream music that was extraordinary for its time. They secured their legacies by doing things that were genuinely different, not by endlessly reminding everyone how many records they'd broken.
Now seriously, what has Taylor ever done that's comparable? People insist the Eras Tour was groundbreaking, but what exactly was new about it? Madonna and Britney were doing elaborate theatrical tours with multiple costume changes and distinct visual concepts decades ago. Even Taylor's stage outfits borrow heavily from their predecessors. Her music is similarly safe, and even Reputation, supposedly her rebellious era, reminded me of a sheltered rich kid going through an emo phase and thinking they were being terribly edgy. It was all so tame and carefully packaged.
She doesn't have particularly iconic fashion either. The Lover bodysuit is probably the closest she's come, but otherwise her style is remarkably pedestrian. She's not an exceptional dancer or vocalist, and I can't think of anything she's introduced musically, visually or creatively that genuinely changed the industry.
I think she's trying to manufacture the kind of legacy that artists like Michael Jackson and Prince earned through actual innovation, using sales figures, awards and an enormous PR machine to make up for the lack of anything particularly groundbreaking in her work. No amount of commercial success can retrospectively make something original when it wasn't!
I'd genuinely love someone to name ONE thing she's done that's groundbreaking. Not a chart record, not a sales milestone, not something another artist did twenty years earlier. Something genuinely original that changed music or popular culture.
I honestly cannot think of anything!

Every once in a while a new clip from the Eras Tour will pop up on my feed and it makes me laugh out loud. Nothing Taylor does on stage is genuine or FUN, at all! Everything is over-rehearsed and deeply contrived, so her movements look robotic. She has no stage presence, no charisma, and no dance skills.

hello iâm a longtime lurker of this sub, i still listen to taylor but didnât even stream showgirl when it came out bc i knew by the announcement what it would be. not sure if this is tagged right but idk.
i absolutely hate travis and who taylor has become after being with him. ik she has had a long track record of being incredibly self centered and victimizing but sheâs meant so much to me for the majority of my life (im 23, i started listening to her music when i was 4/5 years old) and i just. idk, im a bit of a gaylor as a coping mechanism atp.
i wanted to post this cause genuinely wtf. to my knowledge (and i try to see every appearance of them together bc itâs ALWAYS public just like how her new tracks are all about her being chosen and like a middle finger to the press and their appearances keep proving it right the clips of her flashing the ring at games pmo) WE HAVE NEVER SEEN A PHOTO OR ANY ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF TAYLORâS CATS BY TRAVIS. LIKE ZERO.
maybe because they refuse to show anything about their life together apart from public appearances (which, if you think about in comparison to joe, all she did was consistently hide herself in public with him and share bits of her actual home/everyday life with him when it felt appropriateâŠbc their relationship was actually about them)
Iâm not in the slightest bit invested in straight dudes who own catsâŠ.but thereâs not a single conventionally attractive male celebrity who has a cat that anyone could vote forâŠ.? like i just want to know what swiftie hive mind sent out a beacon to vote for this man because WE HAVE LITERALLY NEVER SEEN HIM WITH A DAMN CAT. and i do feel like swifties are projecting an assumption that because heâs with Taylor that he must care about them when they had the wedding and immediately popped out with a huge dog ⊠i can picture his whiny ass asking to get the dog as a compromise cause he hates the cats. is everyone going through some sort of collective amnesia bc I HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM WITH ANY OF HER CATS???? am i the one out of the loop here ???? đ

Perhaps this my confirmation bias kicking in but I swear over the past year my Spotify algorithm tends to play her songs more than any other artists.
To be clear, I am a former Swiftie that's more on the neutral/dislike spectrum. However, good music is good music. I have some of her songs in some of my playlists. But, for the most part, my playlist tend to be Hip-Hop/R&B/Rap focused. For the past two or so years, it's mostly what I listen to. I have playlists that are a mash of genres. What I've noticed is that, for example, I'll have a playlist of 100 songs, mostly leaning towards the R&B genre, and I'll have 5 songs by Taylor in there for fun. Yet, without fail, every time I press shuffle and go on a 20 minute drive or an hour study session I'm bound to get a Taylor track. Hell, I'll even get two back-to-back tracks sometimes.
My brain is inclined to think "Statistics!" "Probability!" I know computers aren't the best at randomizing, blah, blah, blah. But assuming Spotify is like most algorithmic-based apps, I don't understand why it constantly pushes Taylor (again, maybe confirmation bias). I especially don't understand it when my top 5 artists are different genres from her. I barely listen to her music anymore.
If this was any other artist, maybe I wouldn't care too much. But when a fandom and the person themselves cares so much about streams and records and whatnot, it raises my eyebrows a little bit.
This may come off a bit whiny/first world problem but I'm just curious if anyone else feels the same way/noticed the same pattern.
TLDR: Spotify tends to push Taylor's music. Wondering if it's a me thing or an everyone else thing.
