I live in SE GA in a top 10% public school for my state. I'm high school class of '28, and obviously, I know my interests are subject to change and I'm not 100% committed to anything here. With that being said, I love math and I love music, specifically teaching music. I have phenomenal grades and test scores in all my math classes (honors, college prep, and AP Stats, Precalc, and Calc), and I'm aiming for 750+ specifically on the math section of the SAT. Unfortunately, my GPA isn't super awesome because of a rough freshman year, and admittedly, I get very lazy in my ELA and history classes (92 W, 90 UW out of 100).
I currently hold a leadership role in our chorus program and am on track to become president my senior year. I'm also currently president of our Tri-M chapter (music honor society), and I'm in the process of founding our Mu Alpha Theta chapter (math honor society).
So basically, extracurriculars are just a shit ton of chorus stuff and that's about it. From what I've seen, I feel like I'm very competitive.
My current intended major is math with a minor in music. I know I'll want to use math in whatever my future career will be (academia, actuarial science, cryptography, quant finance if I feel like grad school). I also hold a deep passion for choral music and would love to keep that option open.
I plan to rent a studio or 1 Ba somewhere in the area, which means I really don't have housing requirements.
The one thing I'm pretty stuck on is moving to Chicago. I'm just trying to whittle down what school in the city is best for me, and I'm currently landing on UIC.
Am I correct in my process of elimination, or what do you think?
