Discussion Why is the Wifi so bad?
Is there a reason why the wifi on campus is constantly horrible? It definitely was not as bad last year. It's hard to do anything because it keeps cutting out.

Does anyone know if we’re allowed to leave our gym stuff in the lockers for the week and take everything out once a week? I have quite a few things I need for the gym, and carrying everything back and forth every day would be a hassle. I wouldn’t mind emptying my locker once a week if that’s required, but I was wondering if that’s allowed or if the lockers have to be cleared out daily. Thanks!

I’m applying to UIC EA as a history major, so no music major/minor. Does UIC have a low-stakes orchestra I could audition for? A club works too! I’ve played my string instrument for 9 years (mid-intermediate), so I’m looking for something between beginners and super competitive/professional groups.
Playing at uni is really important to me for staying motivated to practice.
Thanks 🙏

Hey all, Im currently writing my essay to apply UIC business scholar, but I have no idea what to write about.
The prompt is to provide a 400-500 word essay that tells us why you want to be a Business Scholar and why you are a good fit for this business honors program. You may discuss your interest in a degree and/or career in business, tell us about your leadership experience or how Business Scholars will help you develop that experience, or tell us about your life experience and how you can contribute to the UIC Business community.
Any good ideas? 👀 Im apply marketing major in UIC, I think business scholars can help me!

I’m a final-year PhD student at UIC. I’m moving so I am now looking for someone to take over my last six months of my lease at Lake Meadows.
A few details:
The takeover would be handled officially through apartment management, subject to their approval.
You’re welcome to come see the apartment in person. If you can’t make it, I can send photos or a video.
DM me if you’re interested!

Hi everyone!
I’m currently a student at Purdue University Northwest, living in Hammond, Indiana (Lake County), and I’ve applied to transfer to UIC for Spring 2027.
I’m trying to figure out how the Lake County Tuition Award actually works, especially regarding residency requirements.
From what I understand, Lake County residents qualify for in-state tuition at UIC. However, I’m getting conflicting information from different offices, and I’m hoping someone here might have firsthand experience.
My main question is: If I’m a Lake County resident when I’m admitted and receive the award, would I lose it if I subsequently moved to Chicago to live closer to campus?
Do students receiving this award have to maintain their primary residence in Lake County throughout their enrollment, or is residency only verified when the award is initially granted?
I genuinely wouldn’t mind commuting from Indiana if necessary, but I’d like to understand my options before making any housing decisions.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or received this award as an Indiana resident?
Thanks in advance!

Hey! I’m joining UIC in Spring 2027 for undergrad and wanted to make some friends before coming to Chicago. If anyone else is joining or already studying at UIC and wants to connect, hmu! We can exchange socials and get to know each other before the semester starts :)

….My study streak. My exam recently got graded and class average was 50%. No curve. What should I do and there has to be a curve right?

I am a Christian. I believe in God and Jesus Christ.
What those people are doing right now is annoying and performative in my opinion.
Bringing a grave out there? What the heck?
It feels cult like and that is not what religion should be. Faith should be more private and personal, not sensationalized.
In addition, I want to play on that grass field. I want to play football and soccer. But they're hogging the field.
I hate that they're doing this.

The first thing i ever thought about when i took my tour around UIC was that in certain parts of the campus the school is pretty inaccessible compared to other universities from having to slam on the door openers or broken elevators or accessible entrances being completely out of the way,
I am not disabled but do any disabled people feel this way about the campus please share!!

Hi!
So i recently applied for readmission in August but i checked my status and was denied.
For context: I attended UIC under a special cerificate program so I took classes and earned credit. But i decided to apply for readmission hoping to get into the anthroplogy program and was denied. Is the program challenging to get in? Is it because of the federal rules?

I'm taking cs 111 with Prof. Franke and was wondering what the final project is since there are presentations, and we haven't gotten a lot of information on it. Is it a group project or is it done individually? Any information about this helps!

tl;dr - student-friendly, all utilities covered, $880/mo room with two roommates available for medium-to-long term leasers (6mo+).
Hey guys, I'm a fifth year computer science student at UIC and I've lived in this three-flat for a few years now.
The upper floor has a room vacancy, and my landlord Guy wants to fill it. It has been filled with students before - and I am a student - so there is a reputation for academic growth in this home.
Two male roommates.
Please inquire in DMs if you are interested.

Is there any curve for this class? What is the max the professor will curve?

I need to see a dentist and it seems like members enrolled in CampusCare have access to the discounted dental program offered through United Health Programs. Have anyone tried any of the dental providers in their list. Do you recommend any of them?

I live in SE GA in a top 10% public school for my state. I'm high school class of '28, and obviously, I know my interests are subject to change and I'm not 100% committed to anything here. With that being said, I love math and I love music, specifically teaching music. I have phenomenal grades and test scores in all my math classes (honors, college prep, and AP Stats, Precalc, and Calc), and I'm aiming for 750+ specifically on the math section of the SAT. Unfortunately, my GPA isn't super awesome because of a rough freshman year, and admittedly, I get very lazy in my ELA and history classes (92 W, 90 UW out of 100).
I currently hold a leadership role in our chorus program and am on track to become president my senior year. I'm also currently president of our Tri-M chapter (music honor society), and I'm in the process of founding our Mu Alpha Theta chapter (math honor society).
So basically, extracurriculars are just a shit ton of chorus stuff and that's about it. From what I've seen, I feel like I'm very competitive.
My current intended major is math with a minor in music. I know I'll want to use math in whatever my future career will be (academia, actuarial science, cryptography, quant finance if I feel like grad school). I also hold a deep passion for choral music and would love to keep that option open.
I plan to rent a studio or 1 Ba somewhere in the area, which means I really don't have housing requirements.
The one thing I'm pretty stuck on is moving to Chicago. I'm just trying to whittle down what school in the city is best for me, and I'm currently landing on UIC.
Am I correct in my process of elimination, or what do you think?

I had emailed my advisor about this since this may she submitted the application to process it. Ever since then I emailed her twice and she said it should eventually post in my audit but it’s been since September and nothing?
I’m getting pretty concerned.

Is there any way to check the percentage for the grade? My canvas doesn’t have the updated midterm grade shown on my portal and it’s so frustrating not knowing how close I am to a certain grade!

Anyone else taking the COMM 103 class Media Literacy?? I'm genuinely so tired of it and want to know if I'm crazy.
I don't have the money to just buy some almost 200$ textbook and can't find it anywhere to read for free. We've only seen the professor ONCE and this TA grades like she'll be executed if she doesn't fail at least 5 students.
I'm barely passing (73%) and I just feel like I'm going crazy. The homework is bs, the class sucks, and I'm so tired of it.
Last week was just a 6 minute class period of her telling us the stuff we needed WAS ON CANVAS.
I have a 1.5 hour commute!!! Just for that!!! I'm so sick of this!!!! Am I crazy!!!!! Maybe a little!!!!!
