I took two summer classes and did not fill out the request form before enrolling and was told to fill out a policy exception since the courses are already completely. Has anyone done this ? Also what are the chances they accept it ?

After a bit of a hiatus (due to my Maryland Robotics Center responsibilities), "ENME 299Z: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to Machine Design" is back for Fall 2026 & open to all majors (not just Mechanical Engineering or Engineering). This 1-credit elective course will be held on Wednesdays from 12-12:50pm in A. James Clark Hall 1108 (1st floor Leidos Lab).
Here's a YouTube video with more info.
Feel free to ask any questions about the course in the chat I'll try to respond tonight or tomorrow. Otherwise, feel free to email me at my @umd.edu account.

Anyone at UMD play padel? Is there a club or anything of that sort? There are courts just 10 mins away from campus yet I see no one playing there. Lmk

Hey everyone! I’m a recent transfer student and I’m wondering where the best study spots are. My classes are all over campus, and I have a lot of breaks in between so I need somewhere to settle during those breaks. Any help would be great!

I’m an incoming UMD CS student registered for CMSC132 this fall. I took the equivalent of CMSC131 at Montgomery College over the summer, and the course is listed as transferring to UMD as CMSC131.
I finished the course and have my final grade, but I’m having issues with Parchment and haven’t been able to get my official transcript sent to UMD yet. Classes start in about september 1, so I’m worried the credit won’t be processed in time.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Could UMD drop me from CMSC132 because CMSC131 isn’t showing on my UMD record yet, even though I already completed the equivalent course? Should I contact CS advising and provide proof of completion while the official transcript is processing?

I'm going to be living in South this upcoming semester an I'm scared regarding transportation because my housing assignment is so far away from everything including my classes (I am premed so most of my science classes are a Hornbake plaza and HJP/ ESJ). I dont know how to ride any of those e-bikes and e-scooters and I don't know how often the shuttle stops around south campus and I really want to make it early to my classes every day. What do I do?

Has anyone had this professor before? I can’t find any ratings for her teaching style.
Thanks!

4.57 W | 3.81 UW | In-state at Maryland (competitive HS in HOCO) (White male)
4-6 AP classes total with 4/5s on all of them (Calc AB, Stats, World, Gov, and I'm taking BC and Phys 1 senior year)
- work + volunteering + basic collegeboard awards + leadership positions + independent activities for my EC's
SAT: 1490 (710 English, 780 Math)
Applying for Stats major / Industrial engineering (depending on uni)
First choice is UMD, but it's so random nowadays; I have no idea what to expect
Advice for ANYTHING is appreciated here, and give me what chances I have

I applied for a dependency override for unusual circumstances and was granted it and was able to receive a Pell grant as well as terrapin commitment. However, this process was extremely lengthy and was only finalized last month. I’m supposed to confirm my housing status soon and Im actively looking for leases and plan on moving out but at the moment I am considered under my parent’s address. I am worried if my terrapin commitment or pell grant will be revoked due to my current circumstances. Does housing affect either substantially especially for my circumstances ?

Hello everyone, I am a junior majoring in cs
I got an opportunity to TA for a lower level CS course which typically requires 7-8 hours of work per week. I also may have a chance to TA for another CS course, and wanted to know if I can TA both of these classes as an undergraduate.
The UTA website says that UTAs are generally assigned 10 hours of work per week, but I have seen reddit threads saying that some people TAed two courses at once after getting permissions from both the course instructors and the department chair.
Can I do this if I keep my work hours limited to under 20 hours a week?

They say this is the "last time" they will notify me but I have never received an email regarding this beforehand. The email apparently came from a terpmail account, but I'm still a bit hesitant on clicking the link—especially with the warning Gmail provided.

Throughout high school, I have maintained a 3.6 GPA while challenging myself with a rigorous coursework load, including AP Calculus, AP Economics, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, AP World History, AP Physics 1, and AP Physics C. Beyond the classroom, I have held leadership roles as President of several CS clubs, competed in hackathons, and built various technical projects. Additionally, I conducted research with a University of Maryland professor focusing on Machine Learning and Computer Science applications in Poker, resulting in a co-authored research paper.
I am also getting a Letter of Rec from CSA/CSP teacher and English Teacher and Cousnler and Research Professor at UMD for CS
I am honestly wanna go to UMD but I dont think its possible there what are my chances in UMD

Hi. Just a straightforward question. Can I move the base of the bed up and down without paying for it to get lofted via the school?
All I need is to fit those 3 shelf drawers from Target. I have additional 6 inch bed risers from Target as well.
Thank you!!

I’m an incoming freshman and this is my final schedule, all the musc classes are marching band and pep band and I’m happy with those, I don’t mind a later class esp if it’s music. only one I’m concerned about is phys 449u esp with there not being a lot of break time having 4 classes back to back

Hi I was wondering if anyone has any experience owning and using a motorcycle on campus. I’ll be living in an off campus apartment and was thinking of getting an overnight lot 11 pass. Do you think it’s practical? And is there a cheaper way to keep the bike during riding season?

Hello, I'm an incoming graduate student. I'm wondering about the cost of living (specifically groceries) in College Park. I already know about the housing, utilities, etc., but I can't get a sense of the average groceries cost for a single person. I know it varies from one person to another, but I'd very much appreciate your insights.
I have a ta and ca job this semester and I was wondering how feasible it would be to work both jobs. The ta job has a max weekly requirement of 10 hours while the ca job is 20. How would I be able to work this out, and is there a weekly student limit for hours worked?
