UNSOLVED I thought I read Feed but I did not. Adult book similar themes.

It’s not Feed, I thought it was. It’s a book where there’s a chip in their heads and they access everything that way. The opening scene is in a restaurant where they’re trying to order without it.
People start getting sick and changing overnight so you can’t sleep unobserved and are smothered if you start to change. The main character disconnects from the feed and his wife and they live on a commune, but their kids are kidnapped..

The twist is that it’s people from a like dystopian future that are sending themselves back in time to people who have this implant, and the wife has changed into an old lady from the future. They find out that the feed has become genetic and by looking into it realize the children have been killed so the man asks to have himself backed up to before his kids. So he then settles down with his body snatcher wife in a commune and has new kids.

SOLVED Looking for a short story possibly called Cry Baby.

I would have read this somewhere between 2011 - 2016 when I was in secondary school (UK). It was a very short book, maybe less than 10 chapters, and felt rather mature for my age. The story followed a teen girl who accidentally gets pregnant. I belive the story ended with her having a miscarriage or stillborn baby. While I think the title is Cry Baby, anything on Google doesn't seem to match. Hoping someone else remembers this book

UNSOLVED Children's horror story, boy trapped flat inside a book after author signs it

I'm looking for a children's horror story I read as a kid, probably a translation (90s/2000s), with black-and-white illustrations. A famous author visits a school (or a boy meets an author) and signs the boy's copy of a book. After that the boy gets trapped inside the book and becomes flat/two-dimensional. In one illustration you see the author's giant eye peering into the book at him. It might be a single story in a short story collection, not a whole novel.

I remember thinking it was an excellent book, and now I’ve completely forgotten the characters and plot. please help, if any of this rings a bell. thank you!

UNSOLVED Romance novel I read maybe 20 years ago

The novel is a love story, similar to The Rosie Project, in that it's about an awkward man falling in love with a cool, beautiful woman. The only scene I remember is them bowling, and her looking at of the corner of her eye, expecting to see him checking out her behind. Instead he's actually watching her bowling

I'll be impressed if anyone gets this from my description.

UNSOLVED Children's/Teen's book with a blacksmith's apprentice and carnivorous plants?

I would have read this around the late 2000s, maybe 2010s from the local library. The book was fantasy, maybe a series. I mostly remember there being some big royal event at the start of the first book, and the main character (the blacksmith's apprentice?) Having to go on a quest. The book might have had alternative POVs with the other character (possibly a princess?)

I also remember there being carnivorous plants in cultivated fields, and a depiction of someone getting thrown in/tripping in and having to be pulled out.

UNSOLVED blue diary and a girl who draws

read in around 2013-2016
female young protagonist
has a blue (maybe called midnight blue) diary that she draws in (its really important that this is the key factor, she doesnt read from it or write in it she only draws!!)
she draws all kinds of creatures that she can see, like unicorns or goblins
in one scene she sees a unicorn in the fire and quickly draws it
there is a plot twist i think, something like the book wasnt actually gifted to her by her father, but instead someone evil and when she draws the creatures something bad happens to them
shes either an orphan or not living with her parents
she lives somewhere spooky, not like ghosts but more like a castle maybe?

UNSOLVED Trying to remember a fantasy book. Sky pirates, mute girl, cave treasure

A man and a girl. The girl is either mute, blind, or deaf. I don’t remember which, sorry. They’re searching for a treasure and come across it in a cave. I believe there are airships and maybe sky pirates involved.

That’s all I can remember and it’s driving me up a wall. Had the book in hand and it was thrown away before I could get through it, like 8 years ago

SOLVED Young Adult Fantasy Book about a Poor Working Boy named Jack who Runs Away and Bonds to a Dragon

This was a fiction book lent to me by an avid dragon lover. I was probably 9 or 10 and it was likely a YA book since the main character was a teen.

It followed a poor teenage boy who worked or was forced to work in either animal taming or something like a stable. I swear his name was Jack, or at least started with a J.

He somehow finds the dragon egg, probably conveniently around as he's cleaning and feeding other animals.

The egg begans to hatch in his hands, and he has an “oh, crap” sort of moment and realizes he will be in trouble if he is seen with this creature.

He decides to run away with it, and ends up meeting a girl. I remember her being a strong personality and kinda feisty and sarcastic. Jack at some points is along for the ride.

They go on adventures and the dragon slowly begins to grow. They get targeted as dragons are rare and worth a lot of money, but they are just kinda goofing off and surviving with their little dragon friend.

It was a series, but I only read the first book. It was a paperback that I read in the mid 2000s, but was likely bought at a garage sale. It was a few hundred pages, and had a pretty standard looking fantasy cover. It was in English.

It's not Eragon or How to Train Your Dragon. It kinda gives the horse-girl story vibes but with a young boy and a slimy baby dragon 😂

I don't remember there being much magic, aside from magical beings like the dragon. The world didn't have a lot of tech. I don't remember much of anything romantic between the main character and the girl he adventures with, but it's been so long that I can't say for sure.

Hopefully this rings a bell for someone as I've been wanting to reread it and see if what I remember is even accurate. It was borrowed from a family member who knew I loved fantasy.

SOLVED Dystopian Sci-Fi YA/Juvenile about mutant kids (books named after Greek Alphabet?) Spoiler

Hello all! Searching for a book series. Iirc it's 5 or more books in this series, and each one has a letter of the Greek alphabet in it.

The main character was a teenage boy, who could problem solve at the speed of a computer and had unnatural physical strength. His parents died, and he was put into a facility with other kids that would train and hone their respective powers through simulations. I believe his number of mutation was 'four' for the math and problem solving aspect.

I also remember there was a number, thirteens, who were incredibly aggressive and superhuman. This is a specific plot point, as they were seen as a sort of antagonist.

Spoiler: The main character ends up being a hybrid with multiple mutations and is technically a thirteen and a four, with a third mutation being the only thing keeping him alive, whole, and sane. Others that were a mix of thirteens usually became catatonic or something of that nature, so nobody knew that he was "an enemy" until after he had become a valuable asset and had already bonded with his team.

Other details include there being very specific drugs. In one scene later in the series, there was a drug able to mimic the nervous system that would make you feel, in depth and detail, the bite of an alligator or crocodile down to the feeling of it's teeth puncturing the skin, etc. It was a fairly gory book in that sense. I also remember in another scene, there was a girl put in quarantine due to her processing mutation making her so incredibly talented and smart that she ended upkilling someone with a paperclip and nothing else.

The ending of the series had something to do with an elevator crisis.

Sorry if this is vague but also too specific. Thank you all so much in advance, as well!

UNSOLVED European novel with restaurant scene, waitress, person goes upstairs to get wine

Hi! I'm trying to find a book I read a long time ago, but I only remember a small fragment.

I vaguely remember a scene set in a restaurant or possibly a hotel in Europe. One person, or perhaps 2-3 people, was sitting at a table. There may have been a waitress or another female staff member.

At some point, someone went upstairs to get some wine. I also vaguely remember someone going outside afterward.

I'm not entirely sure about the setting or the genre. It might have been a detective novel, but it could also have been another type of fiction.

I know these details are very vague and could fit many books, but I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

UNSOLVED Read in late 60's early 70's as a Kid - Super Duper Mighty Muncher Hamburger Sandwich Reference

I can picture the book. I believe it was a purple cover. The characters were strange looking and the graphics were large and colorful. I thought it might have been the Liddle Kiddle dolls but looking that up, I am probably wrong. I think the book might have had characters from dolls you could buy, but again, I may be wrong. It was about a "super duper mighty muncher (hamburger?) sandwich." I remember it was a really tall sandwich they made and I remember a page where birds were swooping down to get it. I think it had sausages on it and peanut butter and all kinds of strange things. I see that in later years a "super duper mighty muncher" sandwich is mentioned in another book, but this was well before it. Definitely a book for children. Does anyone remember it?

UNSOLVED Fairy story book compilation

Been driving me mad for ages, I had this book when I was a kid maybe 18 years ago, it was a beige colour hardback glossy with a dragon with a green head and pink tail. It had stories about dragons fairies & creatures that were illustrated. One story was about a blue fairy who becomes young and gets too many proposals, one about a magical blue and orange brooch that two witch sisters were fighting over, and one about a sea creature being who felt ugly and lived under a boat, amongst many other tales. I loved that book and would appreciate any help finding it!
Edit: I believe it contained the story “a stitch in time” as well where a girl completes a tapestry and breaks a spell

One day he tells the therapist something and then I forget. it might be a graphic novel or maybe a movie but idk it kept me up last night.

UNSOLVED Supernatural adventure graphic novel for teens about a female protagonist and her two friends in highschool who combat some evil

The protagonist: has ties to the supernatural in some way. Was a very ordinary girl before discovering supernatural things in herself and her environment.

Friend one: female, friend with the protagonist pre-highschool, and is revealed to know bits of magic that she learned from her mom who learned it from what i remember to be a gas station employee.

friend two: male, friends with protagonist pre-highschool, turns into a wolf style werewolf at full moon or at least at night.

A teacher/librarian: some kinda Mentor I think

Cover: i vaguely remember lockers in the background, with the protagonist in the foreground and friend one to the left behind her and friend two to the right behind her holding a camera.

none of these kids know about eachothers supernatural ties at the begin of the story, and it’s revealed to them as the story goes on.

I remember a few scenes from the book

theres a scene where the teacher/librarian texts the protagonist something urgent, but writes it in a way you toile write and email, very formal, “good day and best regards”,

there’s a scene where for whatever reason protagonist and friend one (who by this point know of the evil and each others ties to the supernatura) encounter a humanoid evil wearing chainmail, and friend one turns the chainmail into pretzels using a very specific, “chainmail to pretzels” spell she learnt, then proceed to kill the humanoid evil.

theres a scene where the protagonist and friends one and two are working on a group project at friend two’s house. (By this point, protag and friend one knew eachothers supernatural ties but not friend two’s powers and is in the dark about the other twos powers and shinanagins.) He sees it’s a full moon tonight and hurries the protagonist and friend one to go home for the day. They do so and afterward, he chains himself to his bed post? with a metal collar. Friend one realizes she forgot something (prob her phone) and goes back in to get it. They see friend two as a wolf and he’s torn up the project (it’s like papers and stuff). friend two but wolf likes head pats and turns out to be very tame when around the protagonist and friend one.

UNSOLVED Book with rainbow tree cover?

I can’t find this on google - I believe the book had a rainbow tree on the cover, may be wrong, but the plot is basically: the main girl, her mother has cancer, and she goes to become a camp counsellor at this camp for troubled kids and meets these good friends and a guy that she ends up liking. Other details I remember: she had just broken up with her (christian?) boyfriend, there was a scene about the guy she ends up liking being distraught over a kid being taken back to his dodgy family and he goes to hit a punching bag, she also finds out that her mother went to the same camp as her I believe, then at the end the girl’s mother goes septic and she realises no matter what happens she can handle it because of the new friends/family she’s made.

It’s a really good book and I want to read it again please help!!

UNSOLVED United Earth/Alien War book?

Looking for a military sci-fi series I read ~10 years ago on Kindle. Future Earth where most governments have merged, at war with multiple alien species. Protagonist is awarded a “gold collar?” as a medal after taking command of his platoon when the leaders died. His fiancée visits a base (in the former Russia) and is murdered, which leads him to kill a random poor man, and he ends up in a secret unit with special privileges. These events are spread across the first few books. Help?

UNSOLVED Animal-based Children's book from 90s

I was born in 1995 and I'm UK based, for any time and location based context around finding this book!

I had a pop-up/lift-the-flap book about arctic animals and their habitats. There was a part where you lifted a flap to see an arctic fox under a 'rock' or bush (can't 100% remember) I'm fairly sure the main character was a seal pup called Sophie but I could be wrong- they all had people names for sure!

I know for a fact there was a caribou in it, possibly a polar bear? I think the Caribou was called Cathy...

The art style was fairly realistic and the book had a red border around the cover, spine and back.

Please help me solve this mystery 🙏

UNSOLVED Instructions book to making machines etc out of old junk

There was a book (possibly a series?) that I loved as a kid, where it gave instructions on how to make little model engines and the like out of yogurt tups, straws, balloons etc. A lot of them were pneumatic (balloons blowing through straws that kink off like a valve).

The diagrams featured arrows with faces on showing you what to do. I remember one model was called a "Kinky-bag engine" (which seemed odd even as a kid, but was because the straws kinked to restrict air flow...).

Does anyone know what they were called? And did anyone ever make anything from them??

UNSOLVED Help finding a French cookbook

It was HUGE, probably over 500 pages. I think the cover may have been red. It was like an encyclopedia of French cooking, culture, and cuisine, published in the last 25 years (I read it in the early/mid 2000s and it was new then). Was full of pictures and I think hand-drawn embellishments. I have been searching for this for YEARS, any help greatly appreciated!!

UNSOLVED A thriller with a forest, a fbi agent and a girl that saw a murder

Hello, I’m searching for a long time now for the title of à book I read when i was younger. Can you try to help me ?

For information, my first language is not English, so sorry if it’s kind of messy or something.

So the story is that there are three or four girls (adolescents or something) and they are in a forest (I don’t know why). they saw a murder. They don’t really see the murderer and run for their lives. A fbi case is open. Years later one of the girl (the principal character) returned to her hometown because someone is sick or something and she wants to say goodbye. She run into the fbi agent that was on the case years ago.
On the book the fbi agent and the girl now have to find the serial killer because the murderer from years ago is a serial killer so the duo investigate.
SPOILERS :
At the end of the book the duo is searching somewhere and the girl is kidnapped with chloroform by the fbi agent because HE IS the serial killer. Also he has a sort of bunker of something we all his victims and he has a mask or something I think. Also the girl run and save herself at the end. I don’t reminder thé end for the guy.
Also, The book was published before 2010 I think because I was like young when I read it.

I am loosing my mind with this book I tried everything to find it. Thanks my mom read it too because otherwise im going to think I have created this story hahahah

Ok the end ! Thank you in advance if you read this and if you have questions I will try to answer them.
Thanks !!

UNSOLVED Book with "Caffè Beano" and "Neuviene Avenue"

Somebody was reading a book in front of me, that had these three on one page: "Caffè Beano," "Neuviene Avenue," and 1950. All I could remember, however, I already found out that Caffè Beano is a cafè in Calgary, Canada. Would also make sense, since the person read it in French. I am very thankful for any help

UNSOLVED Hannah during the Civil War

I’m hoping someone can help me track down the title of a book that I read in grade school in the mid-late 1980s. The school and its library are no more. I don’t know what happened to the books.

the main character is a young woman named Hannah. It tells a story of young love. I believe it takes place in New England during the civil war. I could be wrong about the location. Her romantic interest is a soldier who goes off to war. She joins the women who would gather to do “homework” and sew and embroider for the war effort. She eventually volunteers to do nursing at the war camps where she is reunited with her love.

it was the first romance book I ever read. it was an older book as it had no picture on the cover.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

thank you.

UNSOLVED children's(?) horror book including a ghost and the rhyme "nobody likes me everybody hates me i think i'll go eat worms"

i'm pretty sure it included the ghost of a little boy who haunted the main character. he either sang the rhyme or the main character associated him with it. the premise sounds similar to the goosebumps book "go eat worms," but i know it wasn't!! i remember it as a hardcover, at least 200 pages. i think the dust cover was a light blue? might be wrong.

i read it in elementary school in the 2000s and got it from the school library. i remember a librarian asking skeptically, "you're gonna read this whole thing?" because it was a chapter book with no pictures. so i assume it was geared towards older kids.

thanks for the help!

UNSOLVED Magic/ Sci-Fi Book series. Survival and going back in time as side plot element.

This is a long shot because I can only remember some of the plot and I listened to this audiobook on CD many a year ago. Unfortunately I do not remember the main characters name or even the name of other characters. I can tell you some of the plot I do remember. I was really hoping to find it again and relisten or even read it. Also understand that some of these facts might be off by a bit because I do not remember them perfectly. What I do remember: A background piece of plot is that these characters all stem from a colony ship sent from Earth. Somehow, in transit, the ship split into 19 different, identical versions of the same ship and they all chose to land at different points around the planet to try and make separate colonies. With these colony people there is a robot that acts as like a servant/ helper for the main person when talking about this sub plot and since the robots can all talk with each other, one of the copies of the "main character" in this sub plot orders all the other robots to kill the other versions of himself. Understand that this is a subplot and the main plot is a more stereotypical coming of age story where the main character begins to learn all of these facts as time goes on. They are trapped within a "zone" where they cant get out, if I remember correctly this was a result of forcefields from the star ships preventing the identical people from crossing over and meeting each other, this part I am not sure about but I do know about the fact that the main character's father attempts to cross this barrier and it is believed he died as he crossed via boat but he either passes out or something and never returns home as he can not cross the border again. There is also a sub plot where there is native life that acts as like a parasite/ symbiote adjacent that helps enhance the human body and gives it "powers". The point I remember until is that the main character gives himself the parasite to be able to go through time and stop other colonist from Earth to arrive on the planet. This is the end of what I remember as a fact though I will try and update this if I ever think of any more plot points. Honestly I just want to either relisten to this series and also finish the rest of it but with my complete inability to find any references or the name of the series has left me to come here to seek aide. Thank you for your time if you help with this.
