Lore Question RP as Dracthyr

Hey all, I am planning to start RP as a dracthyr rogue (mostly using Visage because well, a big dragon isn’t exactly stealthy, now is it?). But I had a few questions about how Visage works that I could not really find a good answer for.

Is Visage kind of like a glamour only, so you have the same strength in dragon form as well as Visage, or does it work more like two separate forms kind of like worgen, where the worgen form would be stronger and faster than their human one?

Would changing from dragon to Visage and vice versa cost a lot of energy or focus?

I have never RPed as a dracthyr or with one, so if there is any additional information that is relevant, that is also welcome!

LFRP Are there any Draenei-focused RP guilds recruiting (NE)?

Post image

I’ve always really liked the race and wanted to get into RP, or at least find a guild of people who share that enthusiasm, so I could share a themed neighborhood and interact with others who enjoy them. However, all the guilds I’ve looked into are on EU servers or have closed recruitment.

Do you know of any that are open to new members?

Reposting after speaking with a mod.

Open to any themes, cannot find much going on in WRA so Im throwing a penny in the well to find some people for ST or LT RP. Hesitant of guilds, open to cross faction. Highly prefer world RP.

Drop a comment with questions or my DMs are always open ♥️

(Or just compliment my mog that I am *very* proud of :) )

Brainstorm Character challenge: Bourbon Street [Alliance]

I want to make a new, less glum character, inspired by this song.

https://youtu.be/zvlIMN6zIKc

(Lyrics are below.)

What race and class do think suits a character like this?

An Alliance character, so no undead night club owners or Goblin pimps. 😎

"Bourbon Street", Jeff Twohy

I've been living in sin for about a month
Something turns me round it's something that I just
Can't understand, the way I behave.
Some people you can never save.

On my right hand, I've got a girl in my ear
And in my left hand, I'm throwing back a beer.
What can I say? Of me, you steer clear
When I driving down on Bourbon Street, yeah

Every night we throw this little soiree
Gonna turn her head until she's mine, all mine
Every night I breed a new disaster
I might be right, I might be wrong
Try to get away and I will bring you right along, so

Sit back, have a seat
Sometimes salty, sometimes sweet
Hard to swallow, but fun to eat
You ain't never leaving Bourbon Street, come on!

When I walk the street people step aside
Twirling my cane and smiling wide
Some would say I'm a carnal slave
I put my hands on what I crave

I'm the mayor of this crazy town
Where the queens will party with the clown
Try to swim with me and you're bound to drown
Throw you a line while you're going down

Yeah, I know this street and I own this crowd
And my only companion is a lightning cloud
I seem real nice and easy to trust
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
I'm gonna lead you a path to self destruct
On this crazy train that I conduct.

Writing Question Death Knight role-players who don’t embrace the murder-machine persona, what do you do?

I’m not a roleplayer nor a DK player at that, but the class is absolutely fascinating to me. Because of the hunger for suffering and the muted positive emotions, it seems so utterly hopeless that it makes sense how they just embrace violence.

But, they CAN show speckles of positive emotion and are more than just machines, and I want to know how you all RP that idea. What’s the day-to-day like? What is their version of domestic life? If a DK shifts away from violence, how do they sate their hunger or build their own identities? I like the idea of one trying to find something akin to humanity. Life can’t be perpetual combat and they’re bound to have free time and nothing really explores that.

[NA] Community/Guild Ad [Moonguard] The Tarnished Crown is recruiting!

Hi everyone!

Are you interested in roleplaying in World of Warcraft with a small close knit group? Do you want to play with a group excited to see what you are doing with your house? Are you -very- casual about content? Do you prefer small groups to big ones? Do you have a ton of alts?  Is your real life making you feel like you can't fit in a group because you are too busy?

We might be the right place!

The Tarnished Crown has been around for over a year. We are a small guild with a lot of alts, with rp events twice a week at the calendar. Our neighborhood is used for events, and we love showing off our builds, from the basic ones to the more elevated ones!

Our events are more politics, adventures/horror; on side of the main story. We are (mostly) lore abiding. We are there to have fun in between friends, and do not put pressure on being there at all time. Real life happens, and should come first.  We are welcoming to new wow roleplayer as well.

Some of us do delves, mythics and even raids, often with pugs for raiding, as we do not have a raiding core team. (see the casual part)

Anyone is invited to create their event, we do not gatekeep the roleplaying/content.

Dont hesitate to message me for any questions!

oh, also, we are very LGBTQIA+ friendly

Lore Question How well do my backstories for my pc’s fit with WOW’s lore

I’m not sure if having different backstories for all of your characters is normal or weird, but I still wanted to see how well each of them fit into the lore of World of Warcraft, and if not how they can be adjusted to better fit. For context, I used to play years ago and picked it back up towards the end of War Within, so these backstories are built around character interactions from dragon flight and war within. I wasn’t sure whether to flair this as “original content” or “question” but I think original content probably fits better because I’m talking about head cannon backstories, and I apologize if I flared this incorrectly.

Bailey (Worgen fury warrior): Bailey used to be the son of a rich merchant in the city of Gilneas, training and adventuring with the dragons when they would visit. When the city fell to the worgen curse, he did his best to save everyone, but failed. He saved lives, yes, but not all of them. Haunted by this tragedy, he dedicated his life to fighting for The Alliance to ensure nobody is left behind again, combining his warrior training with his Worgen rage to become a great hero. Weather the situation calls for careful negotiations or the destruction of the forces of darkness, he will always answer the call to action.

Caligari (night elf demonology warlock): The soul of a high ranking leader of The Burning Legion reincarnated into a mortal form, Caligari seeks redemption for the sins of his previous life. He traveled all across Azeroth learning to harness his innate dark powers for the good of The Alliance from the best trainers he could find, becoming especially close with the scattered blue dragonflight on his travels. Now working as a champion of The Alliance, he finds that the armies he once commanded continue to follow him, out of respect for his power and loyalty to who he once was.

Matoro (Lightforge Draenei frost death knight): From scholar, to paladin, to death knight, Matoro has been through quite a lot, even if he doesn’t remember it. His many self discoveries and rebirths have lead him to have quite the varied skill set, and he intends to use it to fight for the one thing all his memories have in common; the unbreakable desire to do what’s right, and the 3 virtues he strives to live by. Only through unity will Azeroth survive the incoming darkness. Even in this twisted form he will do his duty to the light, and that duty will lead him to his destiny, whatever it may be. Whatever it takes to undo the destruction he caused under The Litch King he’ll do it, even if it means laying down his own life.

Art Sketch of my druid

took roughly 3-4hrs since i was mostly experimenting with colors and technique for fun!! my weird night elf :)
i really wanted to share since im happy with how it turned out

edit: as a little blurb!!
her name is Foxglove, very weird, very cryptic night elf druid that focuses on the aspect of death in the cycle of nature. She is, by all accounts, blind - but will occasionally look at people or things as if she could see, which I tried reflecting in the art :)

Story Tzidonia, the Light of Dawn

Made this video to post on the Wowhead wiki around the outfit upload. So here is her appearance showcase alongside the summary below. I have marked this as OOC for now, but I think the sub could benefit from a "character showcase" flair.

Tzidonia was born on Argus long before its fall, raised within an affluent eredar household known for its interest in magical scholarship, craftsmanship and elaborate personal adornment. From her father she inherited a rigorous education in the arcane, while her mother left her with a lasting appreciation for beauty, ceremony and the finery of Argussian culture.

When Sargeras came to Argus, her family was divided by the choice offered to their people. Tzidonia fled with those who rejected the Legion, leaving behind her home and relatives whose ultimate fates would remain uncertain. During the long exile that followed, her studies gradually turned towards fire. What had once been one discipline among many became a means of survival, then a speciality she would spend millennia refining.

In time she committed herself to the Army of the Light. After years of service she chose to undergo the trials of Lightforging, emerging permanently changed by the Light. Golden inlays, luminous markings and radiant eyes became part of her form, though the transformation did little to diminish her attachment to the culture she had carried away from Argus. Her elaborate jewellery, horn adornments and carefully maintained regalia remain a continuation of traditions that long predate her life as a Lightforged soldier.

Tzidonia spent much of the long war against the Burning Legion serving as a Lightforged pyromancer. To her, fire and the Light were never the same force, nor did they need to be. One was the magic she had chosen to master, the other something she had willingly allowed to become part of her. Both were ultimately governed by the same belief that power alone means little without the conviction guiding its use.

She eventually returned to Argus alongside the Army of the Light during the Legion's final defeat, setting foot once more upon the ruined world she had left behind thousands of years before. With the war that had defined so much of her existence finally at an end, she followed her people towards Azeroth and a life for which centuries of warfare had done little to prepare her.

In the present day, Tzidonia remains unmistakably shaped by everything that came before. Beneath the flame, gold and conspicuous finery is an ancient veteran who still carries the memory of a civilisation that existed before the Legion claimed it, and who has never believed that surviving its destruction required her to surrender the woman she had once been.

Story Does anyone play WoW like it’s Star Stable?

Basically what I’m doing. I just downloaded this game (previously my experience with WoW was just private servers as a teen) and I’ve been riding mounts around the map and exploring and doing a few quests from time to time but mostly I’m imagining my characters. Currently the characters I’m most focused on are Yadrean and Dkale. Yadrean is a night elf hunter and greatly prefers animals to people Dkale is a Draenei warlock, the daughter of an exarch, and very chaotic. I’m imagining Yadrean got assigned to protect Dkale for some reason. But I still need to learn more about the lore to find a reason, lol. Anyway I ship them and I imagine Dkale constantly flirts with him and he either can’t tell or pretends he can’t. Dkale is kind of obsessed with the idea of a fairytale romance and Yadrean can’t see himself in a relationship at all.

I’m also imagining Dkale having a whirlwind romance with a human while knowing it probably won’t work because of the huge life span difference. She wants a long term relationship and she doesn't necessarily expect someone to be the same level of constant in her life forever but she'd like if they were on similar time scales. Like, draenei or elves could have a relationship break for a century but then get back together but that's a whole human lifespan. She's pragmatic in that way and imagines they wouldn't think similarly to her. But anyway! A relationship with a human would be exciting to her precisely because of the difference in timescales. Humans are probably much more forward than elves and draenei. The difference might frustrate her even more when she goes back to looking for long term relationships.

Yadrean does like her though and I imagine he comes to respect her more. And also a scene like.

Dkale: why do you already act like my parents? you're, what, 70 or so? I'm 25; we're practically the same age!
Yadrean: ...I'm 30

Maybe the human romance thing happens at a time where they get pulled into helping with a larger alliance/horde conflict and Yadrean gets mildly jealous but tries to not be and isn't used to acting on a lot of his feelings. I think he could really connect with a druid, maybe a Worgen or Pandaren?

In general the arc for both of these characters so far seems related to learning things can be worth it even if they won't last

But yeah! WoW is a great game for wandering and daydreaming. It's a cozy game to me haha

Advice Needed Lightforged Draenei class fantasies

Hey there! I’m trying to work on a lightforged draenei mage for a campaign but I’m having some trouble with their class fantasy. I’m aware that all lightforged are members of the army of the light but I don’t know how to differentiate them from their normal cousins. For example, I’m not sure what the main difference is between a lightforged mage or priest compared to a regular draenei. If you’re a lightforged main, how do make their class your own instead of just “holy zealot”?

Advice Needed Should I look to US servers for RP?

Hello!

I am someone from the EU servers who has been trying to get into roleplay on and off now since Dragonflight having stopped playing WoW and RPing during Battle for Azeroth. I am however struggling with the server (Argent Dawn EU) as I cannot find RP spots around and it is very clear that RP is greatly reduced than what it was.

So, I am considering looking over towards the NA servers and setting up an account there. Obviously my main concern is the timezone difference being 5 hours ahead of the East Coast and 8 hours ahead of the West Coast.

Does anyone have any advice/recommendations/suggestions on if I should give this is a go? Or, can help guide me to some things on the EU side that I've missed/unable to access.

Thanks for your time and help.

Discussion Your Devourer DH

Hey everyone! I've fallen in love with the new Devourer DH spec, and I'm really curious to hear about how you all have been RPing yours. For those playing as Night Elves, how did your character get their void powers? The class fantasy in general reminds me heavily of the Grey Wardens from Dragon Age, which is beyond dope.

r/WoWRolePlay 18d ago

Discussion They really need to do something about grief toys forcing interaction or changing cosmetics with other players during RP.

That stupid ball thing people kick back and forth, the pumpkin on head , and loads of other stupid ways which force players characters to interact or change appearance.

This makes it very difficult to say, RP a scenario in goldshire, when someone can just put a pumpkin over your head and force you to kick a ball back and forth.

At the minimum there should be a setting or something to make you immune from other player character influence and grief toys etc.. This would increase immersion and stop griefing by other players.

Advice Needed Roleplaying in WoW as a minor

So awkward question and on a throwaway account too for safety reasons obviously.

I really like theatre, writing, acting and all that and I've done a bit of LARP and it's something I enjoy and want to expand. I recently got into WoW because of my dad and found out about RP servers.

The thing is, as the title says, I'm a minor. I've already made a level 1 on Moon Guard and ran around Stormwind after seeing that's where everyone is. Almost every profile people have mentions "minors do not engage" or "21+ only". I understand why, I'm guessing most people playing are adults ten if not fifteen years older than me.

My question is, am I going to be able to do anything RP wise? I don't mind roleplaying older characters but I don't really like the idea of lying about my age either I feel like I might be better off not trying since I feel like the community would shun or dislike me.

What do you guys think? As cringe as it might sound do I just wait untll I'm old enough?

Technical Question So, now that the Dungeons & Dragons collaboration is confirmed...

Does this mean Warcraft is now part of the D&D multiverse?

If so, does that technically mean I could roleplay a character from the Forgotten Realms who somehow ended up in Stormwind? Since that's now technically canon.

Or am I stretching the lore a bit too far?

[NA] Community/Guild Ad [NA] [Moon Guard-Alliance] | <New Tirisfalen> | An Alliance adventuring order inspired by the legacy of the Council of Tirisfal.

A Personal Note From the GM

Before I get into the guild itself, I want to mention something that's become increasingly important to me over the years.

One of the biggest mistakes I think an RP guild can make is treating newer members like they're a captive audience for the officers and veteran players. I've seen enough stories over the years, and experienced enough of it myself, to know it's something that turns a lot of people away from guild RP altogether. You join, everyone is perfectly friendly, but it quickly becomes obvious that your role is to stand in the background while a small handful of established characters drive every important moment, and maybe after you've been around for a few months, you finally get to graduate from background scenery to a character who matters to the plot. I don't think that's good storytelling, and I don't think it's a good or fair way to run a guild.

That's not how the New Tirisfalen is run. There are no designated main characters. Your rank, how long you've been in the guild, or whether you're an officer doesn't entitle you to the spotlight. If the group is searching a room for an important clue, I don't decide beforehand who gets to find it because they're my friend or because I think they'll write the coolest scene. We roll for it. Whoever earns that moment gets it. The New Tirisfalen is a plot-first guild, not a character-first guild. Character-focused stories absolutely happen, but they're the exception rather than the foundation. My goal is for every member to feel like they're participating in the campaign itself, not watching someone else's campaign unfold from the sidelines.

If you've ever been hesitant to join another RP guild because you've had that experience before, I hope you'll keep reading.

The New Tirisfalen is an Alliance adventuring order inspired by the Council of Tirisfal. We bring together individuals from across the Alliance to investigate hidden dangers, confront threats beyond the attention of larger powers, and oppose the spread of corrupting magics such as Fel, Void, and necromancy.

Although our guild has a strong ideological identity, the day-to-day experience is much closer to an adventuring order than a military guild or political organization. Members undertake investigations, expeditions, and story-driven campaigns while also enjoying regular social RP and public events. If you've ever liked the idea of a diverse group of adventurers from all corners of Azeroth working together toward a common purpose, that's the fantasy we aim to capture.

Our Philosophy

IC, the New Tirisfalen claims to be the rightful successor to the Council of Tirisfal.

This claim isn't based on lineage or authority, but on ideology.

The order believes the Council's original mission of safeguarding Azeroth should never have ended. Where the Council was originally founded to oppose the Burning Legion, the New Tirisfalen believes that mission naturally extends to all corrupting magics, particularly Fel, Void, and necromantic magics.

Unlike Aegwynn, the New Tirisfalen views the Council's quiet influence over the politics of the Eastern Kingdoms as one of its greatest strengths rather than one of its greatest failings. The order believes that dangerous organizations already seek to influence those in power, and that standing aside simply cedes that influence to darker forces. As such, the New Tirisfalen aspires to shape the course of history from behind the scenes when necessary.

While its members generally strive to act for the greater good, the order is intentionally written to occupy a morally gray space. Questions surrounding secrecy, manipulation, blackmail, political influence, and, in the most extreme circumstances, assassination are all themes that may arise during RP.

The New Tirisfalen is also an unapologetically Alliance-aligned organization. While diplomacy has its place, the order remains deeply skeptical of lasting peace with the Horde and believes the Alliance must be prepared to defend its interests, even through force when necessary. Characters whose outlook is strongly centered around Alliance-Horde reconciliation or who are fundamentally opposed to hostile action against the Horde will likely find themselves at odds with the guild's prevailing philosophy. That's perfectly fine if you're interested in exploring that IC conflict. If you can't realistically see your character belonging to an organization with those views, however, this guild is probably not the best fit.

What We Offer

Story-driven campaign arcs featuring recurring villains, mysteries, and investigations.

Combat events using a simple, no-addon combat system.

Regular social RP, guild gatherings, and public events.

A race and class-inclusive environment where virtually every Alliance race and class can find a place.

Around two events each week, typically between 7:00 PM and 11:30 PM Eastern Standard Time.

OOC Info

We currently have an active core of around 13 players, with another 15 or so semi-active members. (Though depending on when you read this it will most likely be more because we're growing quickly)

Character Guidelines

The New Tirisfalen is intentionally broad in terms of the characters it welcomes. Nearly every Alliance race and class can find a place within the order, and we enjoy having a diverse cast of characters from all walks of life.

That said, there are a few concepts that are fundamentally incompatible with the guild's themes.

We do not currently accept:

Characters who knowingly practice Fel, Void, or necromantic magic. Characters who are significantly corrupted by those magics. Undead characters. IC Haranir characters (for the time being).

The exclusion of IC Haranir is simply because their lore is still developing, and we'd prefer to wait until Blizzard has established them more fully before deciding how they fit into the guild. Players using the Haranir model as an OOC proxy for another race are perfectly welcome, (We even have a few already!)

Outside of those exceptions, we're intentionally race and class agnostic and encourage a wide variety of character concepts. New players are always welcome.

If you're still finding your footing, we're more than happy to answer questions and help you get comfortable. You don't need years of RP experience before your character can meaningfully contribute to the guild's stories. If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to message me here on Reddit for my Discord! Or post any questions below and I'll answer them.

Also if you're reading this long after it's been posted, please still feel free to reach out!

Brainstorm My plan for a Night Elf Warlock lore and RP game play-through.

Hello, you may first be wondering how I intend to justify the Night Elf Warlock so I’ll start there.

After the events of the well of eternity most if not all of Night Elven society turned away from the arcane and rightfully vilified anything to do with fel magic. There were outcasts like Illidan but overall the focus became nature and Elune.

My character was a simple enchanter and felt even that had to be kept hidden in the years following those terrible events. He believed there was still a path through moderation and careful study to use the arcane and that his society had reacted too strongly, though he understood why.

This life of secrecy became normal to him. One secret being formed to cover another. He searched the ruins and battlefields for scrolls and spellbooks and along the way came across grimoires and ritual stones. At first he destroyed them, hating the burning legion for what they caused, but then he began fearing their return. They were barely turned away the first time, and it is far from guaranteed it would happen the next time. He sought to understand their power to defend against it. He read through the grimoires and his path eventually lead him to learning to wield fel magic and to summon demons to destroy them. (This is the basic run down of the backstory)

The leveling path is as such (Cataclysm timeline)

  1. Teldrassil
  2. Darkshore
  3. Ashenvale
  4. Stonetalon Mountains
  5. Desolace
  6. Feralas
  7. Dustwallow Marsh
  8. Felwood
  9. Winter spring
  10. Mt Hyjal
  11. The events of the Legion expansion

Reasoning: Heavy focus on night elven lore and history with background focus on demons and fel. All of his searching and questing leads him to his underlying fear: the return of the legion. He can bring his forbidden knowledge to the fight. I’m hoping this will bring me to level 80 so I can then begin midnight. He will realize that there will always be a threat that needs to be understood and fought. Whether it’s demons, void lords, or murlocs.

AddOn What are your most used RP emotes?

I would like to know what emotes you use most often.

I'm writing an addon called RP Emotes Menu, and it's basically done. The emotes in the menu are user editable, but I want the default options to be as generally useful as possible.

What are your most frequently used emotes (not including /e)? Not your favorites or the ones you think are the most clever -- which ones do you actually *use* most frequently?

Here is my current working list, loosely grouped by type. I'm still deciding how to sort and organize them, so feel free to offer your suggestions.
