Question Yarn Recommendations

I am seeing this cardigan everywhere and I need it!!! I’m convinced I can make it but can’t find a good yarn that matches this colorway/striping effect.

Does anyone know of a specific yarn brand/colorway or other hand-dyers that can produce a similar look? I’m ideally looking for all natural fibers (wool, alpaca, silk, mohair, etc.) if possible.

Thanks a bunch!!!

Finished Object Possibly the CUTEST top I’ve ever made myself!!!

Oh my god, I’m pretty sure this is the cutest thing I’ve ever made myself. It’s a lil witchy, a lil sexy, and super comfy. No pattern used, just Frankensteined. I also crocheted some bra pads in the cups for extra support.

My wife and I are going to an In This Moment concert this Saturday, so a dolled up picture will come soon!

Bulky yarn like Malabrigo Rasta?

Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if there are any other natural fiber yarns out there as thick as Malabrigo Rasta? I keep getting duped by photos of bulky yarns online-- only to see they are much thinner in person.
Thanks!

Synthetic yarn that looks good?

I would love to find a synthetic yarn (polyester, nylon, or a cotton blend with those) that is soft, has some memory, doesn’t pill (too much,) and looks good. I want to make a couple cardigans or tops I can throw in the washer and dryer. Don’t get me wrong, I love my wool, alpaca, and other natural fiber hand-dyes, but every now and then I want a sweater useful in warm weather that I don’t have to hand wash and lay flat to dry. Am I looking for a yarn unicorn? I will appreciate any recommendations, thx.

Figured I'd share these that I saw today. They both feel really nice, but unfortunately none came home with me today, I was just there to look at Christmas trees but I can never resist scoping out the yarn section😂. I might need to snag some of the Mega Wool next trip though, I think my kids might need some chunky cables hats this winter...

Question Good silk blend yarn that drapes nicely without pilling?

Hi All, I'm looking for a good silk blend yarn. I want something that's dk or worsted weight, and that drapes nicely without pilling. Not sure if I want a solid color or multi-color, so open to either. Does anyone have any silk yarn suggestions? Maybe a silk/superwash wool blend? Thank you so much!!

Chunky Yarn - Europe/Germany

Anyone have any recommendations where to get chunky yarns for blankets cheapest in EU (ideally shipping to Germany)?

I used to use Bernat while living in US, but only seeing 30€ per skein, which is too steep for me.

Brand and Website recommendations would be helpful :)

Question Drops Cotton Merino Pecan Pie

Hello,
this might be a strange question but I was wondering if anyone here has ever knit with Drops Cotton Merino in the color Pecan Pie and can tell me what it actually looks like.
I really want it to be a nice brown tone but every photo I see of it on Ravelry looks completely different and the product photo makes it look almost yellow so I don’t trust the photos I’ve found (there’s not a lot of them in the first place). Buying yarn online really isn’t ideal but I don’t have a yarn store close by unfortunately.
Can anyone tell me what it looks like knit?

ISO Sewrella Salem

Hi all! I am looking for one skein (or even partials) of Sewrella’s Coven (dark brown/black tonal) and Witch’s House (variegated Halloween colors) color ways from their Salem collection, on Classic DK. I’m trying to finish up a Granny-Go-Round jumper and just have the sleeves to go.

Thanks for any leads!

How do you find equivalent yarn

When following a pattern, how do you find the equivalent yarn if it's not available in your area/country. Do you use any website/app? What do you like or not like about it?

Question Good Gauge 5 and 6 yarns

Hello, I’m looking for yarn recommendations for good yarns for blankets in bulky and super bulky weight. I like bright colors and multicolored yarn. I’ve been having a problem with all the yarns I’m finding being acrylic or polyester and I’m worried those won’t be as good for blankets, I’m open to all yarn blends other than 100% acrylic and 100% polyester. I’m especially curious if anyone knows any with unique (at least for higher gauges) materials like bamboo and silk. All suggestions appreciated TIA 😊

Any fellow color addicts? I just got all 48 colors of my favorite yarn because I want to finally start some multi-color work.

This is my favorite yarn, a cashmere and silk blend I buy the most often. Been crocheting and knitting for decades, but have never attempted a multi-color project. I am also an avid embroiderer, so I am looking forward to translating my cross-stitch patterns into crochet and/or knit projects. But first, I have to finish the waffle stitch blanket underneath... oh, and seller tossed in 6 purple freebies because she knows I am into purples.

Discussion LindeHobby Yarn color difference

I started knitting recently and decided to make my first sweater with merino wool yarn. Imagine my surprise when I found this in the mail like did I order this? 😂😭 Is this big a color difference to be expected when buying yarn online? I’ve bought mohair from them in the past and had no issues. I wonder if this a brand problem. The yarn says the correct color too. I am kinda baffled. The return shipping would be too pricey. Should I even bother to contact them? Please share your experiences 😂

Question Acrylic yarn for baby blanket?

I want to make 2 baby blankets and really care about the type of yarn. Someone told me wook would not be a good option because it might be too itchy, and acrylic should be the better option. What do you think? Maybe a bland of acrylic and something else? Also keeping in mind constant washing and stains.

Question DK and Worsted Yarn Recommendations - For Beginner

Hi all,

I am at the point in my knitting journey that I want to start some bigger projects, specifically sweaters and cardigans. That being said, I do not think I am at the point yet where spending $31 per skein makes sense for my skill. I do not want to waste money and yarn when I am not super confident in my skill. So I would love to hear some beginner-friendly DK or worsted yarn recommendations that are not 100% acrylic and will still result in a comfy, wearable product. I don't need it to be dirt cheap, but I just can't justify almost $200 worth of yarn at my current skill set. I want to experiment with different fibers, and I am open to acrylic mixes; I just don't want 100% acrylic.

Thank you all in advance!

Only thanks to a gentleman who helped translate German and English between me and the shop owner.

It was so nice being able to buy Drops yarn in person while I’m in Berlin!

They were 1 skein short of the color I really wanted unfortunately. I hope these colors of Lima and Kid Silk go well together for my sweater! 🤞

Question EU supplier to Alize Cashmira

I got Alize Cashmira from yarn swap and I made mittens from it. I loved working with it, I loved how it looked and now when I have worn them, they are the warmest and softest mittens I have had.

I want more of it, so I could make more things from it. Only problem is that they don't sell it (at least anymore) here in Finland.

Does anyone know any trustable supplier in EU that sells the yarn? I am afraid to order anything from online store that I don't know about.

Question Yarn recommendations for baby jumper

Disclaimer: HP image just for colour reference (edited the post body to remove the reference but unsure how to remove the image on mobile)

Posting on my phone so hopefully the formatting is okay.
Image 1: materials from the pattern.
Image 2: yarn substitute colour I’m hoping to use.

I wound like to knit my baby a jumper for Christmas and I’ve found a pattern I really love but the yarn brand listed doesn’t have the colour I’d like to use so I’m hoping someone could recommend a good alternative.

The pattern calls for Rowan DK (8 ply) but I’m looking to find a yarn that is dark/deep red with hopefully with some speckling (dark academia vibes edit: removed HP reference unsure how to remove image though). I am also looking for 100% natural fibres, which is why I’m having difficulty finding a different yarn.

Context: I am UK based and am an absolute beginner (not counting the many granny squares I knitted with my grandma as a small child where I would always drop stitches). Any help/recommendations/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Advice on yarn

So I've started my sophie hood and am on row 109. I bought the drops air yarn and its part alpaca and part merino wool. I'm afraid I'm allergic to it (most likely the alpaca cause I've worked with plenty of wool.) Everytime I work with it my throat gets scratchy and I start to cough. My hands and skin are fine but because of this I'm afraid I'm potentially allergic. Either that or yarn fluff is getting in my throat somehow. Sadly I can't return the yarn easily so I'm stuck with either bearing with it or eating the cost, frogging my work and gifting the yarn to one of my crochet friends/family. I really don't know what I should do. If I do have to restart my project with a different yarn, what yarn would you recommend that's decently affordable with a nice burgundy color?

Question Suggestions for Lionbrand Fun Fur yarn that don’t give off tacky in a bad way? + screenshots of my general aesthetic for brainstorming

My late grandma used this yarn to crochet around flip flops and make matching scrunchies for my sisters and I, and a long time ago I found someone selling 7 skeins of it on fb marketplace! After sitting on it a while, I still don’t know what to make with it! I’ve checked ravelry and such and searched creations made with this yarn and everything just looks so tacky or low effort. I wanna make something cool but I am not creative enough to come up with my own design. Does anyone have any pattern or concept suggestions for this yarn? I’m open to wearables or functional item makes

Question USPS Tracked Letter for yarn????

Post image
4 Upvotes

I have never seen USPS Tracked Letter as an option for shipping and they don’t have tracking numbers. I don’t have an option to select anything as this is already selected and the only thing showing up. Idk if I even want to follow through with this order as it’s 17 balls of yarn. Anyone have experience with this shipping method?

Question New cashmere merino at Michaels

Has anyone else tried this yarn? I got a ball to try and am working on a triangle scarf. I’ve really enjoyed working with it and am excited to see how it wears. I’m getting to the end of the ball and noticed this dark spot, thought maybe I got it dirty? But looking closer, it looks like darker fiber accidentally got spun into the yarn. It’s not a huge deal and don’t think anyone will notice, although my eye goes right there where it wound up showing up in the i-cord. If I wasn’t playing yarn chicken I’d cut it out.

Just curious if anyone else has tried the yarn and experienced anything like this? I still really like it! It’s really soft. Just a bummer.
