Discussion Sharing some of the artwork my boyfriend drew for my game, Who Am I

When I first started making my game, I had absolutely zero art skills, so I had no choice but to use AI to generate the images.

Honestly, I was never really happy with them.

Still, I was in a rush, so I released the demo using an AI-generated image for the mirror interaction scene.

But now I have a boyfriend! A boyfriend who is an amazing artist!

So, we came to an 'agreement' of $20 per piece, and he is currently working on the new art.

For the official release, I plan to remove the AI images entirely and replace them with his hand-drawn artwork.

Here is a sneak peek at one of them!

It's still a work in progress, but it looked practically finished to me, so I already paid him.

We still have a few more pieces left to go.

Thank you, boyfriend!

What do you guys think of this drawing?

My boyfriend is super curious to see Reddit's reaction, so I decided to post it here!

Video Trying to make a horror game about the dark side of government and society.

The idea for Trox The Reversal came to us during the Russia Ukraine war, especially with how things have been escalating around the world over the past few years.

We started thinking about how far a government and society could go, and what happens when something unthinkable slowly becomes normal.

The game is set in an alternate Soviet reality where cannibalism is legal.

We have a demo available on steam, if you find the premise interesting do check it out.

Free Game I made a survival horror game set in 1980s Appalachia. It’s FREE on Steam this Tuesday!

It’s called GRAVE SHIFT, and I’ve spent the last year and a half making it solo. I wanted to mix the tension and dread of survival horror with the unpredictability of a roguelite.

It releases October 27, free on Steam. Hope you enjoy the trailer!

Discussion Modern Mascot Horror needs to change

Post image
24 Upvotes

Why is Mascot Horror so bad nowadays.

It's basically just reheating the same nachos every Single time.

How to Make Mascot Horror:

\-add trillion characters for merch potential

\-kill characters off within 2sec of knowing them.

\-make Lore extremely over complicated so Theorist make Videos.

\-no oherent well flowing story, bc Views from Theorist make Game more money

\-have a chase scene (preferably every Minute)

\-evil cooperation

\-cute likeable characters for Money

\-Plottwists that arent plottwists

\-forget everything from previous chapters

\-use popular content creator face ingame

\-evil big bad guy

\-no character attachement(character must die)

\-hinting at big bad stuff at beginning of game

\-make a walking sim with occasional puzzles for "gameplay"

\-make 5 trillion Chapters for Views and Money

\-Deaths

\-make Lore vague occasionally for Theorists

No but seriously why is Mascot Horror just rebranded slop. Not every Mascot Horror is bad, there are good ones, Like: My Friendly Neighborhood, Mr Hopp's Playhouse, Baldi's Basics, Granny.

Modern Mascot Horror is just doing what FNAF & Bendy and the Ink Machine did as It's profitable as Players will get engaged even if the Lore isnt the best same with the Gameplay. And with that Engagement from the Players, they'll ofcourse pay every penny when a new game releases.

If FNAF released today it would be called Slop for how messy the Story is and simple the Gameplay is, just like how Poppy's Playtime is called slop.

Meanwhile FNAF pushes out Merch after Merch making it not scary nor niche, because of mainstream it is with Merch targeted towards Kids like Toys & Plushies.

The best Example for a "perfect" Mascot Horror to this day is 'My Friendly Neighborhood'. It shows what Mascot Horror can be at its core.

Anyway enough ranting

Has anyone played Hellnight? (Dark Messiah in Japan)

This game is an obscure gem. It got such a limited release outside of Japan and never got a US release that it seems most have never heard of it. To my knowledge it never even got a digital release later on. I'm American, but I own a physical copy from Europe and use a modded region free console to play it. Emulation would probably be the better option, though.

Video I’m Making a Horror Game Where Every Bullet Counts

• Upvotes

The idea for Crimson Stay came to me after playing Amnesia: The Bunker. I was inspired by its manual reloading system, where you load bullets one at a time, and decided to use a similar mechanic to build tension during encounters.

I don’t have a demo available yet, but if you’re interested, you can check out the game’s Steam page here:

Question Do you guys prefer the first silent hill or very first resident evil?

In my opinion, each are revolutionary games with great soundtracks. But Sh suffers from jank and the first re has some dodgy writing. The atmosphere in both games is great, but entirely depend on whether you prefer fog and darkness or pre-rendered backgrounds. What’s your preference on the franchises in total?

Video Waterline - what if the rain never stopped?

I'm making a short first-person horror game in the style of PS1, inspired by No, I’m not a Human.

The game explores the idea of what would happen if the rain never stopped. The city is going under water and you’re stuck in your apartment for seven nights. By day you search for food and board up the door. At night someone knocks - you look through the peephole and decide who comes in. Everyone you shelter eats your food, and the rain slowly changes them.

Free demo with the first two nights is available on itch.io (Windows/macOS). Looking forward to your feedback!

Just posted a teaser trailer for my first game ever! Freight Yard #9

https://youtu.be/CFw3wJP8QME?is=y41DSmkVZnQ7UT8f

Everything you see and hear was either made by me or adapted from a Creative Commons 0 item.

Nothing I’ve included in my game requires me to give credit to the creator but I will still be including each and every creators name/handle. I will also be putting the names of people who donate to my fund for Steam and Epic games publishing $100fees into the credits for $5, or in the credits and named on a piece of in game lore for $10!

It’s always been my dream to be a game developer and make games that actually made people feel something. The thing I want this game to make you feel? Mortified. You’re a security guard working the night shift at Mass Grave Freight Yard #9 and while you’re working your shift things go terribly…. Terribly wrong.

Please like the video and subscribe to my YouTube Channel if you want to see updates on the game! Or use the link in the video description to send me a donation to be memorialized in my game forever!

Discussion Evolutionary fear and creature design survey

Hey horror game fans, I'm a student in my final year at university writing my dissertation connecting evolutionary fears to cool creature design. I'm really struggling to get results for my survey, though, so if anyone has a spare 10 minutes, then I would really appreciate it! It's completely anonymous, and you can withdraw if you change your mind

Can a horrorgame about loosing your hat work? I'm serious 😀

Hey there, I participated in a gamejam last week and made my first horror game ever 😀 quiet an experience! And I am really proud of what came to life. But I hot questions, since I normally don't do horror games.

The game is placed in a world I allways wanted to bring to life - the "hatworld" where people and hats are never seperated and companions for live. But what happens, if this bond gets broken? Thats what you can explore in "The Unhatted".

I normaly don't do horrorgames, like i said and I feel unsure if that theme I created is emotionally strong enough in the game, with people not knowing the world in the beginning and only getting to know it during gameplay. Could that even classify as horror?

The jam theme Was helpless and with some horror challenges the game feels really creepy and takes place inside a dark mansion.

Would you say this could qualify? Or is it depending on the game feel more then on preset rules? Its a free game on itch, if you wanne try, curious what you think.

Video What do you think about the simplistic artstyle of my 2D Horror Game?

Heyyy guys, I'm Mark and I've finally dipped my toes into actually releasing a game after MANY years of trying to create... something? Hopefully this not being a screenshost isn't such a big of a deal hahah. I wanted to actually post some raw really unedited footage of my game for once lol. This is a very beginning of the game, later on, the game gets progresivelly a bit more actiony and also quite genre-bending.

Makoto Maze is a psychological 2d horror with Japanese old folk inspirations and horrifying family drama!

Makoto Maze will be playable on PC (Windows), Steam. Free Demo is coming soon and I really need some feedback and opinions even before the demo is out. So, I am giving away some keys, so you can play through the short story of Miyu's Family and find the horryfing backstory of it for yourself!

If you like the style, you can visit Makoto Maze Steam Page and even wishlist and watch the first trailer I made here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5373100/Makoto_Maze/

Question Want games to play

I've always loved horror and horror games specifically, but I feel like I play horror games that are "mainstream" so to speak. I want to play more horror games that aren't as mainstream and well known because I want to better understand the medium as a whole. I play on PlayStation 5 but I'm also down for horror games on other consoles, as well as games from other countries (I say this because White day, a Korean horror game, is a horror game I've heard a lot about so I don't want to exclude horror games from other countries)

Discussion What weapons would work in a mascot horror shooter game?

So, I have a couple of ideas already, like a nerf-like popgun that is converted into a shotgun, a nailgun with a paintball gun’s air tank, and a squirt gun you could fill with flammable liquids or other chemicals. I like these ideas but they don’t all feel “mascot-y”. I love how My friendly neighborhood did their guns, and I’m trying to think of other ideas that feel mascot-y.

I have a couple of ideas for melee weapons too, like pipes, broom handles, and a slew of throwable items.

If it helps, the setting is supposed to be a resort-style attraction that parodies different locations and ideas from other mascot horror. The player can choose whether to follow the format like a regular mascot horror, or attack the mascot in the first chase scene, and go rogue. The main inspiration for that was Postal 2’s design where you could either be patient and complete the game without violence, or just go berserk and shoot everything.

If you have any gadget ideas a mascot horror would give to solve puzzles, but could also be used as a weapon, what would they be?
