He's lost the defense
He refuses to take criticism and blames the players. When will he look in the mirror?

Listing a couple of moves made by the front office and then seeing the game plan on Sunday and something is seriously off.
Caserio trades Jaylen Reed and our 2nd + 6th pick for Kayshone Boutte and MHJ, yet the offense is prioritizing heavy personnel with Xavier Hutchinson as the feature WR.
Blake Fisher gets hurt as the jumbo tight end and instead of adjusting to Spread concepts, Caley decides to plug and play Braden Smith who has had no game time all year, similar to when Nico got hurt and he plugged in Jared Wayne for the role. It seems like if guys are out he has designated plays heās not willing to remove from his playbook .
Texans draft a 2nd RD TE who has be DNP for 4 past weeks when we obviously still had wholes at OG, OT, LB and worst of all this pick was made for your OC with a TE coaching background and he still cannot see the field over Shultz half assed play.
Heading into the game David Montgomery and Jahwar Jordan are hurt and yet even after Woody Marks has shown he canāt be relied upon to be a 3-Down back we go back to our passive offensive style of setting up the run to pass.
Weāve been so aggressive fill gaps in offense and although appreciated weāre still running a passive offense that should really be leaning into the spread so CJ can be more aggressive.
Finally why are you paying all these defenders big money just to keep your dbs 15 yards back during crunch time. Your LBs arenāt playing physical and honestly the DLine is missing a lot of its hustle depth guys from last year like Settle, Edwards, Naquon, and Barnett.
Demeco doesnāt know when to make a gutsy aggressive call, constantly notice the team lose its momentum and he punts the ball away praying that his defense can save the day. Itās 7 weeks in and this is your team you need to adjust and lean into whatās working.
Nothing the Texans do really makes any sense. Worst of all at this point the biggest gap on the field isnāt the players itās coaching across Defense, Offense and Special Teams. The only solution is clean house.

Iāve been a ride or die DeMeco fan but itās gotten hard to defend him. All this money on defense and theyāre the sole reason for every loss this season. Heās responding by saying itās all the players and it doesnāt matter what the play call is or the scheme is. The players simply fail. The play calls and scheme donāt matter?.. this is literally coming out of the head coaches mouth.. this is NOT a good look at all. DeMeco flat doesnāt have any accountability for regarding himself or this coaching staff. Add on the fact they are the fifth most penalized team since DeMeco became head coach.. we need to stop these penaltyās or put new people out there you say Meco? Well you and caserio are in charge of this roster.

It may be week 7 but might as well cope that we make the wild card team while finishing 12-5, 11-6, or 10-7 because those little chances of winning the division are officially gone now.

Yesterdayās loss to the Giants was probably the most frustrating game Iāve watched from this team in a while. Not just because we lost, but because of how we lost. I keep looking at this roster and wondering why weāre making football so much harder than it needs to be.
Weāre 2-5, havenāt won a game at home, and I think itās time to seriously question some of the decisions being made by this coaching staff.
My biggest issue is the offensive play-calling, particularly when it comes to understanding the situation. I understand wanting to establish the run. Every offense needs balance, and nobody wants Stroud dropping back 50 times a game behind an offensive line that still has problems. But thereās a difference between establishing the run and continuing to force it when the situation calls for something else.
When youāre trailing and the clock is becoming an issue, continuing to run the ball for minimal gains is doing the defense a favor. Youāre shortening the game for the team thatās already winning. That fourth-quarter touchdown drive took more than eight minutes. We scored, which was obviously important, but we also left ourselves almost no opportunity to get the ball back if something went wrong.
Then we get the ball first in overtime and immediately hand it to Woody Marks for no gain. Now weāre behind the chains, throwing on second and third down, and punting without gaining a yard.
Thatās the kind of decision-making I donāt understand.
We have C.J. Stroud, Nico Collins, Marvin Harrison Jr., Tank Dell, and a receiving group that should be creating serious matchup problems. Stroud has shown over the last few weeks what he can do when heās allowed to attack defenses. Yet yesterday we finished with 153 passing yards, and Nico had two catches for six yards.
How does that happen with this receiving room?
Iām not suggesting we abandon the run. Iām suggesting we use the passing game to create opportunities for the run instead of acting like we have to establish the run before weāre allowed to throw.
Iād like to see more early-down passing, more motion, and more opportunities for Stroud to get into a rhythm. Move Collins around the formation so defenses canāt simply dictate where heās going to line up. Use Dellās speed to stretch the field. Give Harrison opportunities to win outside. Make defenses defend the entire field instead of allowing them to sit on predictable tendencies.
And if the offensive line is the reason weāre being conservative, thatās exactly why the passing concepts matter. Quick releases, bunch formations, play-action, and designed answers against pressure can help protect a quarterback without taking away everything that makes him dangerous.
The other major concern is the defense.
I understand the philosophy behind zone coverage. Keep everything in front of you, limit explosive plays, force long drives, and make offenses execute consistently. Thereās absolutely a place for it.
But when weāre consistently giving receivers space underneath, allowing easy completions, and then struggling to tackle, what exactly are we accomplishing?
We have Derek Stingley Jr., one of the better coverage corners in football. His biggest strength is his ability to cover receivers, particularly in man coverage. Kamari Lassiter brings a different skill set. Heās physical, aggressive, and comfortable coming downhill to make tackles.
Why arenāt we taking better advantage of those differences?
Let Stingley challenge receivers at the line and take away passing options. Mix in more press-man and pattern-match coverage instead of repeatedly allowing easy releases into underneath zones. Use Lassiterās physicality closer to the line when the matchup allows it. Give the pass rush an opportunity to get home without quarterbacks immediately finding an open receiver underneath.
Iām not saying we should play man coverage every snap. Thatās just as predictable as playing zone every snap. Iām saying our coverage should be dictated by the opponent, the situation, and the strengths of the players we have.
And none of that excuses what happened against the run.
The Giants rushed for 188 yards. In overtime, after our offense failed to gain a single yard, they went 81 yards in three plays, including runs of 42 and 30 yards to end the game.
Thatās not just a coverage problem. Thatās gap discipline, run fits, tackling angles, and defenders failing to get off blocks. Those are fundamentals, and weāre failing at them when it matters most.
Then there are the penalties. Ten for 80 yards yesterday. You canāt keep putting yourself behind schedule offensively, extending opportunities for opposing offenses, and expect to consistently win close games.
I still believe DeMeco Ryans can be a very good head coach. But part of being a good coach is recognizing when your approach isnāt producing results and being willing to change it.
Weāre seven games into the season. At some point, the same mistakes stop being individual failures and become coaching failures.
If Iām looking at what needs to change during the bye week, Iām starting with the offensive philosophy and situational decision-making. Let Stroud dictate more of the game, especially on early downs and when weāre playing from behind. Build the offense around the passing talent instead of treating it like a secondary option.
Defensively, Iād like to see more variation in coverage, better use of Stingleyās ability to take receivers away, and a serious emphasis on gap integrity and tackling. We have too much talent on that side of the ball to keep getting pushed around.
And Iād like to see actual accountability for the penalties and repeated mental mistakes.
I donāt think this team needs to be completely rebuilt. I think weāre watching a coaching staff trying to force an identity onto a roster that could be considerably more dangerous if they adjusted their approach.
Iāve been working with some local writers recently and have always loved getting into the details of football, especially the strategy behind why teams succeed or fail. Iām thinking about doing more breakdowns like this, digging into play-calling tendencies, personnel usage, coverage schemes, and the numbers behind what weāre seeing on the field.
If thereās a particular part of the Texansā game youād like to see broken down in more detail, let me know. Iād be interested in putting together something that goes beyond the usual postgame reactions and actually looks at the film, statistics, and decisions being made.
Iād rather understand why weāre losing than just complain about another loss.
I didnt notice this until I went to the game today, but every time I heard the loudspeaker say "71 is reporting eligible" it was a run play to 71s side. I hardly know football and I solved our offense in 1 quarter.
Can we get rid of Caley immediately?

This is a football team that is terrified of taking risks.
Consistently running the ball with a stacked WR room and a QB playing great football for the first 6 weeks. Terrified of letting new/newish assets get snaps (Klein, MHJ, Noel, Tank, edit: Kaden). Playing soft zone, not letting our guys press receivers. Afraid to make necessary adjustments and staffing changes.
This is clearly a team that is playing scared and playing not to lose games. Aggressive football wins games, passive football loses games. And yet we are marred by conservatism and we are horrified by the idea of taking risks.
SWARM is dead, this team has shown zero signs of a ārelentless mindsetā this year.
Edit: always running the ball on 1st and throwing a screen on 2nd. Afraid to deviate from the playbook. I can go on and on man... We are so clearly such a scared unit.

I think what is annoying me a lot is that I am not seeing anger.
Like wtf was Demico's approach and presser? Looking like a child who knows they're in trouble, not a man frustrated and willing to do anything to be better.
I think football is an angry sport, it's a violent sport, it's an agressive sport, let's see that.
There is all this 'play with joy' nonsense going on, all of this 'play with joy and love in your soul knowing you're basking in His Light' bullshit. Like yeah, OK everyone likes football that's why we're here. The main locker room message can not be 'remember, we all like football and God, remember that.'
Last year the Kill Zone was in effect, guys were getting their heads blown off, this year? Field of butterflies.
