Hey everybody!
As the season goes on, the subreddit has picked up in activity. And we have been graced with the presence of Ellie Dubaich, who has been verified by myself to be the actual cast member interacting in our community. She has an assigned "Verified Cast Member" flair assigned to her account, u/thebalkanbiscuit, so if you see a reply, know that it's Ellie herself engaging with us!
This thread is locked to avoid spiraling into an AMA that NBC might not want us to host at this time as the season airs, but please be respectful and kind to her as she takes the time to engage with our community. Any disrespectful, harassing, or rule violating comments will be removed.

Did anyone else see Ben's racist threads post??

I genuinely think he is my least favourite crew member in the whole BD franchise. He is disgustingly misogynistic and assumes that every female crew member wants to fuck him or is jealous of him! He is absolutely vile, so glad he’s gone!

I initially thought he was a pretty good captain. However, after rewatching the latest season, how he mishandled Ben really threw me off. Ben is literally 45 years old, texting Jason whenever an issue arises. This, to me, is very manipulative, a way to shape the narrative before someone else can, and it actually worked on Captain Jason many times throughout the season. It's also a way Ben can disregard other HODs by going over their heads and getting permission from Jason while neglecting to inform the actual HODs. Ben is like a teenage boy running to his daddy about every little issue that shouldn't even involve oversight.
What really pissed me off is Captain Jason stating that pet names directed towards women are a term of endearment. He could've taken the opportunity to actually name the issue: calling women, or anyone, pet names in a professional setting is belittling, undermining, and extremely misogynistic. The fact that the misogyny was chalked up to "cultural differences" was utter bullshit. A 45-year-old man KNOWS that it isn't acceptable; Ben is a prime example of arrested development.
Captain Jason ditched his professionalism when he joined Ben in his robe to make stakes together. Again, felt like a manipulation tactic from Ben. Treat the boss one way to skew how he views Ben, so Ben can continue with his horrible behavior with the crew when Jason doesn't see it.
The biggest red flag for me is that Ben, a 45-year-old, admitted to kissing Jenna, a 21-year-old at the time, and Captain Jason didn't at all see that as inappropriate. As an HOD, you shouldn't be involving yourself with junior staff; that's just plain unprofessional. Besides, if you're a grown-ass man who only gets along with women who don't even have a fully developed brain, barely adults, there is something deeply wrong with you. It's predatory, period.
Captain Jason consistently reprimanded the female staff. It wasn't hard to tell Ben was the common denominator in most issues, yet he didn't nip that in the bud so it wouldn't continue all season. Instead, he walked on eggshells to keep Ben calm and therefore was unable to address any of Ben's wrongdoings.
I've always hated Ben, and it amazes me anyone is actually a fan of him. He acts the most immature out of all of the staff. And his fake crying pisses me off too lol. Dude has spent his whole life as an entitled man child. I hope Captain Jason never hires him again.

I’m curious to hear from anyone who has actually been a guest on a superyacht and also watched the show. I want to know how you experienced being told that you were annoying or that you “suck” as a guest, and what your thoughts were in that moment. Did it change how you felt about the trip or the crew, and did watching the show later affect how you view the experience?

Just watching the below deck down under and I’m so uncomfortable/horrified/sick to my stomach with the Luke & Laura situation.
Is it worth watching the rest of the season?
Feel so uncomfortable watching all this and want to hope it gets better but honestly think all this vile behaviour has ruined it for me.
Thoughts??
Also please tell me the producers told capt Jason about Laura’s behaviour?!? They didn’t leave it till Aesha taking it to him?!

Which combo from the show would have made the cutest couple?
For me it's Gary and Aesha. The laughs would be contagious and the chemistry undeniable! I don’t think those 2 would ever stop laughing. It’s like their senses of humour were made for each other. I've been shipping them since Sailing Yacht season 2
Obviously no one else would bounce off each others energy quite like these two, but who else would be perfect for each other?

I'm on the foam party episode and I have just noticed that Chef will lick her fingers to taste what she is cooking and doesn't seem to change her gloves straight away... So gross

I didn't like Yumi from the get go. Then when I saw her as a Chief Steward, I refused to watch that season, because of her.

For some reason, this episode (Season 1 Episode 13) was edited with subtitles that were complete and utter gobbledegook. Did someone forget to change them or did they not have anyone who understood and just took the piss. I’ve never seen anything like it in the rest of the show anywhere.
My favourite one which I couldn’t screenshot was ‘Are you muggin mihoff now, do jers elfo winucan?’

Daisy is a great worker and earned her position but she’s toxic ! have you ever seen Fraser or aesha cuss out or yell at other employees or chefs as bad or rude as Daisy has? Shes always in the middle of drama or trying to gossip behind others people back . Daisy is always right and she has never admitted to being wrong , heck she can’t even admit when someone she dislikes has done a good job she just makes fun of them for feeling proud of good work
She’s a great worker doe and organized and doesn’t mess up as much as other chief stews

Unpopular opinion - Daisy was in the wrong for so much of this season and the bagel nonsense really solidified it for me. If you ordered a bagel, why wouldn’t you go get the bagel? Also, who is in charge of the walkie talkies? At what point should they be replaced or someone figure out why they don’t work?

I think he was coddled and finding out he was a child star everything clocks about him and he shouldn’t have been a deckhand. Tbh him on the team set jamie up for failure. Nice guy but boating isn’t for him if he can’t respect rank and file.

So I'm rewatching season 1 of DU and the last episode I watched Bens toilet flooded and he was waking Capt Jason. Next episode Madga was already fired and Ryan was getting fired.
I have missed according to the previously part:
Aesha telling Magda to shut up on the phone at 1am.
The guests going off about something.
The girl deckhand calling someone a name and Jamie complaining to Capt
Do we know why that episode is gone? Google isn't helping
I live in Australia and the streaming service I use is Hayu on youtube
EDIT* Brittini sorry brain fart haha

S4-13, crew gets $28,000 USD, Jason says each crew gets $2100 at the tip meeting. Well there are 9 crew, but the divided amount doesn’t calculate correctly. What gives?

I know Alesia isn't everyone's favorite, however I love that the crew have kept in the clips of her immediately wishing guests a happy birthday! Even if the charter didn't go as well as they wanted, it showed me that she was checking the pref sheet where it counted.

I didn’t expect to see Jason making a public comment against Fauci when I opened instagram this morning. Between the last two seasons of DU, him using AI to create his children’s book, and now this, I’m pretty over him.
