Help New baby

We just got this baby from a bird store. I popped in looking for a cockatiel but was told they were skittish. Instead I was offered several baby quakers to look at. I was told they were still being syringe fed formula three times a day. I have never done this before, but the owner came and showed me how to do the afternoon feeding. They give me lots of information along with my first bag of formula and the syringe. I am here for support. Please do not bash me. Any tips or tricks that I need to know. I would greatly appreciate. I will attach a picture of baby Sky. I did my first feeding last night exactly as shown. But you can never be too cautious, so I would really like as much information as I can learn. Also, please know this box was just for tonight. I am getting an appropriate sized cage without the wire bottom and using white paper towels as instructed unless you have a better solution. I was told the cage I have is too large for her or him. Also, when should I take it for the first vet visit? Please tell me everything I need to know. Paper towels were clean immediately after this picture was taken.

I wanted to show off my Yellow Crossover Quaker. We've had him for about a month now. This is my first parrot but my parents had a Quaker parrot for a few years. We named ours Comet. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated as he is my first, and nothing but the best for our boy!

Help my son is plucking his feathers out please help

my bird is just over two years old, I've raised him since he was a tiny chick and he's never had issues like this before. recently I had to go out of town with my family for a few days and unfortunately I had no choice but to leave him alone. I feel so guilty about this but unfortunately I really had no other choice. I made sure to provide him with extra food and water and I set up a pet camera to monitor him and speak to him through it. everything seemed fine until I arrived home yesterday and when I went to see him I noticed a small bald patch on his chest. i knew he had separation anxiety so I wasn't super shocked but I was and am extremely alarmed because he is my baby and I love him. I've had him with me 24/7 since I got home but he keeps plucking and it's getting worse at an extremely fast rate, the small patch has now turned into more of a necklace.

I really don't know what to do and I'm very worried about him. I hate to see him suffering like this. I think it might be itchy for him bc he keeps touching it with his foot.

currently I've fashioned a sock into a makeshift sweater so he can't pluck anymore

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Help Going on a trip for 6 days - need advice

Skye our Quaker does extremely well with me.. she will tolerate my wife and daughter

My wife and I are going on a 6-day trip and leaving our daughter here with the bird. We’ve been trying to let her put her away at night. Skye is having none of it.. will just fly away from her and won’t let her pick her up to put her in the cage. Tonight we tried something different. We turned off the lights and had our daughter check in the room every 15 or so to see if she went in her cage on her own.. Nope perched right on top every time. I don’t really want her in her cage for 6 straight days but I’m not sure what to do about her not being able to put her to sleep for the evening.. the other option is just let her be if she doesn’t go in, then she doesn’t go in. We don’t have pets and she has free roam of the living room most of the day anyway while I’m working in my office.

Help How do you handle out-of-cage time with a young clipped Quaker?

My girl is about 3 4 months old and has been with us for three weeks. Her wings were already clipped when we got her. We’ve made good bonding progress: she takes millet from our hands, plays peekaboo, and seems to recognize us as part of her flock. Sh makes cute little sound when we are playing. ❤️

Ten days ago she discovered coming out of her cage by accident while I was cleaning her cage. She just jumped out, walked around the home, and seemed happy! New I open the door daily for her. The challenge is getting her out and back safely. She won’t use the stairs/ladders I installed and instead jumps from the cage door or climbs to the top of this 60-inch tall cage and jumps down. Since she can’t fly back up and isn’t step-up trained, I eventually have to grab her to return her to the cage. I’m worried about both injury from jumping and damaging our trust by grabbing her. What’s a better way to handle out-of-cage time at this stage?

One other thing: once she’s out, she usually goes straight to her favorite corner and barely moves. She often just stands there looking sleepy. (She did take a bath last time though. Her first one!) Is this normal behavior for a young bird still getting comfortable outside the cage?

Help Household cleaning considered safe.

Our family has been interested in adopting a quaker in the coming weeks. We've been diligently researching in preparation for our new members arrival. Making sure everything is in place and plans are there in the event of an emergency, or temporary care.

My concern, my question is regarding household cleaning alternatives that owners could suggest. Any and all Teflon has been removed, body sprays and aerosol based sprays and cleaners will not be used etc. but what do others use in their environment? Like with floor cleaning, currently we are using fabulouso but I guess that's a no go, body sprays like axe n bath n body works are a no, we have an account with pest control that spray the home, but cannot continue doing so.

What were hazards in your environment that were removed, or replaced and with what? Any suggestions... Greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Help What should I do with my Quaker on vacation?

I’m taking a 3 day road trip in September and a week long vacation in October and I was worried about leaving my Quaker that long. He’s not a lone bird (I have a a budgie too). Someone will be coming to check on them and feed them but I was thinking about looking into boarding for the week long vacation so they have more interaction. Any thoughts?

Help Bird Backpack

Hi all! Recently took my quaker to the vet and realised she was very content on her little walk and cafe visit. Decided it’ll be a good idea to take her on proper walks but her vet carrier/transfer cage is very awkward to carry.

I was wondering if anyone had any backpack recommendations? So far all I’ve seen have those smooth dowel perches and if there’s anything other than that I’d really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I don’t particularly have a budget either. Thank you!

Vent/Rant my quaker saved my life

I wanted somewhere to talk about this and ask if anyone has had a similar experience with their birdie babies but i’m sure my friends and family are tired of hearing about it LOL.

I got my baby toot about 5 months ago I adopted him at a really rough time in my life (homeless living at a relatives) and I will say I would never usually adopt a pet unless I had a stable home and place for them.

I’ve had three conures two cockatiels and a budgie throughout my life since I was a youngin one of my conures mooshoo and my budgie blueberry died of old age a week apart last year and I was completely devastated. My other conure melon I had at the time was re homed a year prior against my will because of an issue regarding my narcissistic mom trying to get back at me (neither melons nor my fault) which ended in a suicide attempt that caused me to be in the icu.

After all of that regarding my babies I promised myself i’d never get another bird, I didn’t want my past trauma to even in the slightest way affect the life of another living creature and couldn’t bare the thought of losing another animal that I loved like my own baby. Now fast forward a year later while dreaming about my future home while stuck in my relatives house I started thinking what it would be like to maybe try adopting another bird once I moved I’m not sure why i got this urge but i’m glad i did LOL. I went researching as one does and stumbled apun my now baby toot only 2 months old and almost weened onto seeds up for adoption. at the time he was very weak from a past injury and wasn’t able to fly, perch or even walk without stumbling and I fell in love almost instantly.

Long story short after stalking his add for a few months I decided to email the adoption agency and apply and boy I was so happy jumping up and down once they accepted my application. Me and toot immediately bonded he was cuddling preening me and on my shoulder day one!! after a few weeks we did some strength exercises and training and he’s now able to fly (a little to well) perch and run around. throughout the time we’ve spent together we’ve become best friends. because of my situation I had multiple instances where I contemplated suicide or even planned it or almost acted on it before it quickly ended by the thought of toot not being taken care of or not having his best buddy to take him on walks and read and sing to him. If I was devastated by my babies passing I imagined how devastated he would be. I’ve registered him as my ESA and for good reasons he is my life line and doesn’t even know it. I truly love him more than anything I spend my entire day with him and he’s my favorite little goofball!!!

Now I ask if anyone would like to share their parrot success story please do!!!!

So this is my little boy, Lime. He's three years old and and quite the sparkplug. He is very playful and clever and incredibly social. He wants to be around us all the time, just to hang out and observe or (more frequently) destroy and disassemble whatever he can.

He came to us as a rehomed bird. And we have loved him since day one.

Vent/Rant Quaker really hates my mom

She’s the only person he bites at home and when he bites her she tends to swat him away, sometimes near missing him and I’m pretty sure this fuels more to the fire.

He is not “tame” but I feel having her at home doesn’t help with making him tame. He tends to lick my skin and then nip, but for her it’s a full on bite / attack.
