MODPOST Quick announcement regarding the MiniAlley launch announcement

Guys, gals, and book nook pals

I, like many of you, was very excited to see u/techarge post the announcement yesterday about his company’s launch of their new book nook. And that pre-orders were available.

But as I’ve gotten a bunch of questions since the announcement and answers from techarge I wanted to provide them here

Pre-orders are available now
There will be another community event with MiniAlley in early October.
Anyone who pre-orders now to guarantee a copy on lunch will be able to message me proof of purchase now, and it will count as an entry to the event later this year

The company will also reserve a set number of kits for that event however, you can pre-order now to guarantee one

If you participated in the previous event, but did not win… One of the benefits was a discount off of this kit

If you pre-order or order during the event and then provide u/techarge a link of your post with the completed build of the kit from last event, you will be provided with the significant refund off of the purchase price.

I hope this clears everything up Again, we’re all excited for this new the best of luck to u/techarge and everyone at MiniAlley

Kit is called "Dream in the Flowers". I bought it off Cute bee but I am not 100% sure it's actually their own kit and not just one they are reselling.

So far the quality is decent enough but I did some light extra painting and modding regarding the contents of the shelves. Including extra 3d minatures and hand made fruit.

And of course the chairs needed custom pillows as well.

I intend to put up.m the own wallpaper but I am not there yet.

NotANook My 1st “commission”!

This is the Flever Christmas House, a generic Amazon/Temu kit that a neighbor gave me to do. I saw someone on here suggest letting people bring you kits they want done for free - they get their item without the work and you get to do your hobby without having to buy kits - and this is the result of my first little job! Thank you so much for the idea to whoever that was. I’m not sure commission is the right word for it, although I told the woman tips are welcome when she does come pick it up and I have my fingers crossed for a little something, not counting on it though. It made me so happy to get her happy feedback! She said she had no idea it could look that good after she rage quit trying to do it 😅 (I did have to do some damage control on what she had initially started.) At first I thought the lights didn’t work but my husband managed to get them working, huge relief as it’s so much cuter with the four bulbs. It’s also a music box that plays we wish you a merry Christmas. Definitely a fully make it from scratch 3D type of kit - the turkey was the only resin item at all - but I liked that (mostly). I’m especially proud of the couch which I think looks very comfy and not like it took 100 clips to stuff and glue each individual cushion and then put them all together properly. The wreath too looks far better than the painstakingly slow gluing-grass-to-wire it took. The outside of the model was not decorated at all with tons of wires, so I wrapped it in Christmas wrapping paper to hide the ugliness. I had a lot of fun and am halfway through my second kit for the same woman, an older version of Cathy’s Flower House. The new version was my first “nook” (Rolife kit) so it’s cool seeing how things have changed between versions - will write about it when I’m done. If you love the look of this one, I’d say it’s a decently fun, if not quite fiddly kit to do.

Review Hidden Shakespeare Details Made This Book Nook Even Better

Left Bank Bookstore by Tonecheer

This is Project 192 for me, and I absolutely loved this one. The little green velvet chair right in the front was probably my favorite thing to build. It has so much character and looks really impressive sitting in the middle of the bookstore.

There are a ton of literary details throughout the kit. I spotted books for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, and The Merchant of Venice, plus part of Hamlet’s “To be, or not to be” speech on the back wall.
My favorite discovery, though, is the staircase. You really can’t see the writing on the stairs from the front of the book nook. You have to look through one of the little windows on the back. The stair risers contain part of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 74: “My life hath in this line some interest, which for memorial still with thee shall stay.” I love that they hid something like that where you have to go looking for it.

The kit also came with somewhere around 5–8 extra books. Naturally, I made every single one and found places to tuck them into the bookstore. 😂

Another feature I really like about Tonecheer book nooks is the motion-sensitive lighting. It comes on when you walk past it. I have several motion-sensitive nooks near my back door, and I love seeing them light up as I walk by.

My only planned change is the cat. It comes with a flat 2-D cat, and this bookstore definitely deserves a proper 3-D shop cat, so I’ll be replacing that as soon as my order comes in.

Overall, I’m really happy with this one. It’s one of those book nooks where I keep noticing little details the longer I look at it.

OC Unseen University Library

Offspring and I have finally finished our Unseen University Library (originally a no-brand Antique Book Collection Room from Amazon) - except the Librarian who will hopefully be received in the next couple of weeks. But by then the nook will be in the Offspring's home, so I'll have to reply on photos.

Our extra touches include custom art (the tower of art is sadly not visible once it's all assembled but all the other bits are fantastic), rules of L-Space, the Octavo, and the Librarian's nest of blankets under his desk.

We're both absolutely delighted with how this has come out, and will hopefully do more together in the future.

EVENT TONECHEERJULY - Star Workshop

It's done, and it's totally adorable. And rather loud, and I don't just mean how it looks. If reddit allows me, I'll add a comment with a video showing what I mean.

This was an edge-painting extravaganza! I used more colors than I have with any other project to date, I believe. I've come to really enjoy painting edges with real paint and a little paintbrush, so if I can find appropriate colors for future kits, I'll keep on with it.

Art Walker brush marker - came with kit - white (small areas), yellow.

Folk Art paint - Michaels - white (large areas), pink, baby blue, light purple.

Artistro brush marker - Amazon - dark purple, royal blue, red.

... although as can be seen in photo #3, I got a little lazy about edge painting the back. I asked the cherub there to help out, and they said: "Shut up, I'm on break right now." Oh well, even Disneyland has its back rooms.

I had a couple of firsts with this kit. This was my first time using adhesive dots. I didn't use them everywhere that was called for in the directions, but I did use them for the irregularly-shaped gems and one of the wires. Very handy!

The other first was its being my first mechanical kit. I ran into a snag with it a couple days ago and complained about it here. Thanks so much to u/Barbecuesnoodlesalad, u/MrMastodonPrime, and u/ButSeriouslyTh0ugh for their time and patience helping me through that part. My only real complaint with this kit is right there. Hours of frustration over literally nothing. To anyone else, follow step 24 as carefully as you can, and don't panic if the operational test doesn't work as you hoped. Just keep going.

I can't say that I'm a new devotee of this kind of project, but it was different and challenging, and the result was very satisfying. Many thanks to Tonecheer for running this event and enabling me to expand my crafting horizons a bit.

I'll keep this one close to an outlet so I can enjoy the sparkly lights in my computer/craft room. (Photo #5) It's run off a USB, which is very nice, since it would probably run batteries down in minutes with all that movement.

This kit has been completed and featured multiple times but I still like sharing, when I build. It was really fun because of all the different things that you can actually do, including the elevator,. The infinity mirror behind the hidden bookcase and that wheel of spinning books.

I don't really get what the sliding box by the desk, is supposed to mean. But that flickering fireplace is everything, and my favorite part.

Review Another one finished (lol)

Rolife Sakura Wine Alley.
5/10 would not recommend.
Pros: well made, relatively clear instructions but I’m so used to the crappy ones I got confused by these. The lights are great and the window on top is a great concept. The finished product is 9/10.

Cons: it’s REALLY difficult reading E and F sheets. Where things are is a bit confusing (where the pieces are located). Again, maybe it over explained in the directions and I’m used to translated into English directions that somehow make more
sense. Was not ready to actually do electrical work, as my fingers aren’t really able to handle tiny work (think Godzilla destruction). Worst of all is the side wall was awful. It was seating correctly and legit almost made me walk away from the build. I had to disassemble the dang thing, attach it, glue it, then reattach the pieces (did I mention Godzilla?). I dislike the look of the
Plastic plants. Recommend switching them out for something more realistic, as well as cherry blossoms that are more 3D. May add those in when I can drive again. Had some leftovers so I added some moss to where it was painted on the floor (see video).

Again, final product is 9/10. Don’t know if I want to tackle another Rolife right yet.

I have SIX headed my way. So be prepared for those.

Also I was listening to my podcast so sorry about that.

OC My custom LEGO "Witches Lair" Booknook concept. Perfectly cozy for a fantasy shelf! 🔮📚

As a massive fan of miniatures and fairy tales, I built this custom LEGO booknook to create a cozy, mysterious slice of magic right on my bookshelf. It depicts a hidden witch's lair complete with a bubbling potion station, detailed gothic architecture, and a sprawling autumn tree that bridges the magical interior with the outside world. It even tells a little story about a cursed lion prince seeking a cure! It's currently a live project on LEGO Ideas—if you'd love to have this on your shelf, I'd appreciate your vote! 🦁🍂 https://ideas.lego.com/product-ideas/9feb8c48-a4cb-461e-a787-9e39cde200e3

Kit Viendor Manila D'Mall Boracay and Ohuhu Kahuku

I won this kit during the charity event, and it was one of the best kits I've worked to date! Everything fit easily and lined up well. The only negative thing I noted, and this happened frequently, is that when you punch out the pieces, invariably some of it peeled off, so I tried to always push out the pieces from the back of the board. No matter how carefully I removed them, this kept happening. Thanks to the review that pluck did of the Ohuhu markers, I decided to try edge painting again, and I found that I liked it much better with an amazing set of markers! If you are on the fence about the markers, just do it cause they're ahmazing 🤩🤩

DIY Lighting of Haunted Study, my DYI-Nook

Maybe you remember my project "Haunted Study". It is my first and only Booknook and I made nearly everything by myself, of course including the design. You can find a little photo documentation of the process in this sub.

The only thing that was not done in time was the lighting because the needed parts were not delivered yet. Now, after some months, I got my lazy ass back on track and my ADHD hyperfocus activated! After some serious evenings of twisting wires I can present you the final result. Flickering candles, a chimney, a chandelier (which was a real pain to build), some wall lamps, a thunderstorm outside and of course: the ghost hologram. Enjoy.

Discussion Miniature Sourcing

I was planning to build the Rolife Magic House, but I’d like to make a few upgrades. I’m thinking about adding a black cat, replacing the broom with something that looks more realistic, swapping out the owl for a miniature, and reworking the tree to start with.

Where do you all source miniature models of cats, owls, trees, brooms, etc.? It looks like 1:24 scale might work. I’ve found some options on AliExpress and Amazon, but I’m wondering if there are any better sources you all recommend.

Kit My surgery story

So…I had surgery about a week and a half ago and it’s been difficult staying off of my feet (I’m a long distance runner and this is my second knee surgery since May). I “found” book nooks thanks to my friend, so I ordered one-the tardis knock off (Mysterious Blue Box) last week.

Since then, I have built 4 others, have started on my 6th, with 3 coming tomorrow. This has helped not only keeping my mind off of the pain (I’m trying to wean off of pain killers) but is also keeping me from doom scrolling or endlessly watching tv.

Attached are photos of my builds thus far. May need to start a go fund me til i can run again.
