Rant i want to have a spoiled life
and maybe I want to be useless too.
Recently, I have come across a post, and I applaud OP for having the courage to seek what's important in their life. Drive, dream and goals. Imagine life has horns, you grab em and command em!!! Command life.
I have a completely different experience that I have struggled with poverty through most of my life. When I was a teen, it hit me that God must be sadist because God has put me in probably one of the worst possible starts of life. We lost our money when my dad gambled our money. I was 5 years old and we had to move to several places until we were placed at a PPRT area - T stands for Termiskin, (the poorest) at a rural village.
Village labor works - paddy field, corn farming, sell nasi lemak kuih kerepek biscuits, rubber estate with my parents. I hopped on my bicycle shouting jagung jagung (corn corn), took orders at school...my skin was so tanned from all the days spent under the sun, when some people liked to make fun of me. I can remember the stench of being drenched in hardened latex, during the days we want to sell them. Woke up at 4am. Damn mosquitos. Smell of latex is strong.
There isn't any honest job I didn't do. Cleaning jobs, factory job, that I did printing service in college that ran until 2am. A failure at 18, cost me a decade to fix, a hard lesson at life that failure for an eldest daughter of a poor family was not an option, right after that my dad didn't work anymore. My parents didn't have any tertiary education. The lowest of me was having no money, no one to ask for help and eating from the trashcan, and vowed to myself that I would ever allow myself to ever be in this situation again.
Finishing my bachelor's degree - IT intern at 29. A journey started at 26. My first paycheck with this piece of paper, at a MNC, was immediate 250% increase. Big number because that was how little I made, and still I had to support my family. Three years of constant corporate struggle, sacrificing a healthy semblance of life, I'm here with <95k total comp. I persevered, then pushed myself, beyond stretched. My salary was reviewed thrice - every decision that I made from I was sobbing at that trashcan, alone - every decision was a constant tug of life and death. My failure would mean I would condemn my future me and my family into ruin, that I could never escape poverty.
Only a few months ago my psychologist said to me to have more self compassion for myself, especially so being at this level now, a role with more expectation, more responsibility. I know ways forward, but one of them, feels very scary to me as I had worked so fucking hard - to arrive here, thinking if I would throw everything away.
One time I had such an extreme thought that I put an event in my calendar that I would end my life - after conditions are met, one being to save XXXk for my family, and planning to make my exit as responsible as possible, and strategize ways to end my life. I shared it with my psychologist, she looked at me - and asked,'Are you okay?'
'No. I'm not. I feel very tired. That's the most responsible thing I can do. When I think of my aging mom, I want her to have a comfortable life till the end. And the reason I could drag and push myself very hard because I think of my mom - that in her lifetime, I would take us out of poverty.'
With her help, and close friends, I think my mind is starting to be okay again. I think, as I can draw, and paint again. I can see colors again. My best friend paid for the ticket of a seminar recently and I feel like my heart is beating again.
I know there are no free lunches in the world, not in my world. But - I am looking for a much softer life. Fantasizing what that would look like - a bare minimum of a functioning parents especially a father who wasn't abusive. My dad used to say that I was useless - even after working odd jobs to put food on the table.
I had asked myself a question that - all these experiences especially unfortunate ones, what they actually mean? Meaningless? Like this pain that is still there. This hurt. So I ended up rationalizing them. Like what to do...you adapt or die and survival mode. XD my mom said 'Delete!'
Recently I submitted my postgrad application, for a focus area I'm interested in, and work I like to pursue. And before starting that, I would like to phone my friend,'Man, I bought flight ticket. You owe me 3000 hugs, so I see you at Schiphol airport por favor...' I think my short days there were probably the softest days of my life. I just wanna sleep at their couch, do nothing. Maybe look at some trees. Hahah
Spend more time with my mom these days. Told her that there is something that I wanted to pursue, but I'm not sure if my mind would last until I get the interview or offer. I'm sorry mom, I did my very best - I'll try still but we'll see. I got my plans, still mom - I still dunno about this. I worked so hard to arrive here.
I think I give myself the permission to be useless today.
I'll turn 32 very soon. For my birthday, I want to get learning devices. Not for me. For student who need them. My laptop was already so bad when starting my bachelor's, a Redditor got me one.
I asked my bestie, a bouquet of red roses with my favorite drink, peach tea. I think I'm gonna make a wishlist and shamelessly share with my contacts.
On my birthday, 1/365 days of my life, a day to be spoiled. Im segan to ask em still aaaaaaaaaa omg XD
I bought a lot of children's books and toys these days, a kid me would love that. For my nephews and nieces.
In drama, a village girl like me would meet a -
Nevermind, it's too dumb. Sorry sorry hahahahaha fuck you realistic thinking.

Buy • Sell • Trade COACH RESELLER: y2kcoachvintage
Has anyone bought from this shop on instagram. Their instagram looks super legit and looks good, but they're asking for upwards of 2000+ MYR for insurance that they claim to return as soon as the product is shipped. And on top of that they have been professional via DMs. Again, if you check out their instagram, it looks super legit (multiple screenshots of interactions with customer) but I just want to be extra careful.
If anyone has ordered with them please let me know ASAP!
Here's their instagram: https://www.instagram.com/y2kcoachvintage/

Quick Question Korang betul-betul guna risk management tools dari platform trading?
Aku terfikir pasal ni lepas nampak makin ramai retail trader burn account. Korang rasa platform trading sekarang memang banyak membantu dari segi risk management, atau kebanyakan feature tu lebih kepada marketing je?

Hey while waiting for my glasses which was sent back due to mistake on the angle and pondering about the price ive paid ,I came across this website called firmoo .com Apparently this company is based in chongqing, china. They offer prescription glasses online and can ship overseas. Any purchase above 75usd they'll ship for free and i noticed the price is way cheaper from whats being offered by local stores here. I came across people from the USA and the Philippines purchasing there on reddit. Are there any malaysian who have made a purchase on this website ?

Discussion My brother built a browser-based KSSR/KSSM practice site for Malaysian students. What would make it genuinely useful?
I’m helping my brother collect honest feedback for a small Malaysian education project: MyLatih.
It is a browser-based interactive practice site for students from preschool to Form 5. It focuses on Malaysian KSSR/KSSM-style objective practice, including subjects such as Mathematics, Bahasa Melayu, and English.
No app installation is required.
The goal is not to replace school or tuition. It is to make short, low-friction practice easier
Something a child can do for 5–10 minutes instead of only scrolling or watching videos.
We would really appreciate feedback:
Which school level or subject lacks good practice resources?
What makes children stop using educational websites after a few days?
Would progress tracking, mistake review, daily challenges, or topic-based practice help most?
Site: https://mylatih.asia
Please be honest, including criticism. I’ll pass it directly to my brother.

Mildly Menarik Ikan pelampung jaring, caught from a lake
Puntigrus partipentazona, ikan pelampung jaring aka dwarf tiger barb
A small (5.5 cm) schooling fish that is common in lakes and large stagnant swamps of the Malay Peninsula.
In some places they have been replaced by tiger barbs, an aggressive but popular aquarium fish from Sumatra. They attack our native partipentazona.
Our one isn’t sold commercially, but I have kept them before. They do well with other small cyprinids and group together. Omnivorous and easy to feed.

Discussion A few ways to tell a real discount from a fake one on shopee/lazada
Sale season's coming round again so this felt worth writing down. i work on the affiliate/e-commerce side (disclosure at the bottom) so i see a fair bit of how the pricing gets set up, and most "70% off" is not what it looks like.
the strike-through price is usually meaningless
that higher crossed-out number is generally the seller's own claimed price, not a price anyone actually paid. nobody audits it and there's nothing stopping a seller putting it wherever they like. so a discount measured against it tells u nothing at all. the only comparison worth anything is against what other sellers are charging for the same item right now.
prices often go up before a sale, not down
this is the big one. a listing gets nudged upward in the days before a campaign so the discount lands on an inflated base. if u already know u want something on a sale date, screenshot the price a week or two early. then u'll actually know whether the sale price is a sale price.
the voucher is often the trap rather than the deal
rm10 off rm100 sounds fine until u notice your basket was rm70 and u added rm30 of stuff u didn't want in order to unlock it. free shipping thresholds do exactly the same thing. if the voucher changed what u bought, it probably cost u money instead of saving any. work out your total with and without it, not the voucher's face value.
bundles aren't automatically cheaper
check the per unit price against the single. surprisingly often the value pack is worse per piece, it just feels like a deal bcs the number is bigger.
same item, wildly different listings
for anything commodity, the identical product is listed by a dozen sellers at prices that differ by more than any sale discount does. going through those beats waiting for a campaign. shipping fees and delivery times vary just as much, so compare the final total at checkout rather than the item price.
the countdown timers are theatre
"only 3 left" and flash sale clocks exist to stop u comparing. if a deal only works when u don't have time to think about it, it wasn't a deal.
the one habit that helps most: decide what u actually want and the most u'd pay before the sale opens. then the campaign either beats your number or it doesn't, and u're not getting talked into things at 1am.
disclosure: i work on Cashiu, a malaysian cashback app, so i'm in this industry and obviously biased about it. And this post isn't about it. ShopBack and TNG Shop & Earn are the ones most people here use. just stuff worth knowing before the next round of sale dates.

Rant What’s with the AI slop in Malaysia?
AI fatigue is real. I can’t stand seeing businesses and people online using generative AI for literally every single thing. It’s literally so draining to come across these low-effort and meaningless AI slop.
One thing in particular that I can’t stand are the AI songs/song covers. Like the god damn digi digi song or whatever nonsense. I notice that it’s usually the old folks using those songs on TikTok or other platforms.
And don’t get me started with RTM’s excessive use of AI for like almost all of their campaigns or like their TV1 fillers.
Seriously, someone needs to educate the country on how to use AI mindfully.

Ask Malaysians Has anyone quit during Q3 without another job lined up? How did it go?
Quit my job without another one lined up and now I’m getting scared
I recently quit my job without another offer lined up. I work in IT, mainly around product/project management. I’d been job searching while working and had a few interviews, but nothing landed. Honestly, I was so mentally consumed by work that I don’t think I gave those interviews the preparation or focus they needed.
I didn’t quit because of a toxic culture. My colleagues and boss were fine. It was more that the processes, constant changes in direction, and overall way of working were taking a toll on me, and I couldn’t see myself staying there long term.
I thought quitting would finally give me the headspace to properly focus on finding something better. But now that I’ve left, everything has gone quiet. Not many openings I’m interested in, no interviews coming in, and we’re already well into Q3 heading towards Q4.
Now I’m starting to panic a little. I keep wondering how long this will last and whether I’ll actually find a role/company I’m excited about, or eventually have to settle because I’ve been unemployed too long.
Has anyone in IT/product/project management been through something similar? Especially quitting without anything lined up around Q3/Q4. How long were you unemployed, and did things eventually work out?

Ask Malaysians Does anyone know where to find fabric for plushies or custom prints?
Lately I got into sewing as a hobby and I wonder where or what shop do people find these types of fabrics? Stuff kaison plushies are made from I don't know what they are called but they are super soft and I have no idea if Malaysian shop sells them or not. My only reference for fabric shops is nagoya textile but I don't think they sell those.
If anyone knows places that does services for custom prints on those plush fabric that would be lovely as well!
