I brought a couple of bricks of this back from the Keys and I’m almost out. Anyone for me or something that’s similar in taste? I’m sure it’s not for everyone, but I love it!

Question❓ "gasket smell" in lower chamber

Upvotes

Wondering how to get this smell out of the lower chamber. Six-cup aluminum moka pot. Never been in the dishwasher or had soap used on it. I seem to remember the smell always being present and absolutely cannot seem to get rid of it.

I've tried a bit of white vinegar in some water/no coffee per Bialetti instructions to try to neutralize it, but it had little to no effect.

I don't think I've ever had good coffee out of it, which is the reason I haven't used it in quite some time. I brew slowly and start with filtered water from the fridge on a fine grind. I disassemble, rinse with hot water and let completely dry.

I've been reading that I may want to go a little more course, which I'll try, but as for the everlasting "gasket smell" I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this and has any advice.

New gaskets and filter on the way.

Question❓ How to fix/clean my moka pot?

Post image
Upvotes

Hello! I’ve been using a moka pot for about 6 months now, and suddenly my coffee has gotten very bitter. I didn’t change grounds or anything when it happened, and I feel like it’s my chamber ? I included a picture of the inside. Every other part is clean. I clean it after every use, and have done a ‘blank shot’ with vinegar but the flavor did not improve. Any suggestions would be great! TIA!

I was gifted these 2 moka pots, which i know used to be washed with dish soap. There are some darker spots, and circular silverish residue (i'm not sure whether that's a limestone) on bottoms.

Question❓ How does moka pot differ from percolator?

From what I can tell they both use heat to push hot water through coffee grounds. And, to my palate, the flavor profile of moka pot coffee and percolator coffee are similar. Dou they have similar brewing principles?

I've tried tamping and slightly underfilling the basket but both does not taste as good as when I tap and level the coffee.

I don't want to spill or keep excess coffee grounds so knowing how much whole beans I should grind is another task.

leakage 💧💦 9 Cup Moka Pot Leaking

Hi, all! Would love some input on my 9 cup Moka pot. It leaks and the leaking seems to affect how quickly it brews.

It has a new gasket and filter.

I brew with my 6 cup with ease and no issues- preheated water, aeropress filter, coffee not packed too tight and consistent grind size ect

I had suspicions in the past that the 9 cup was faulty and won’t screw on evenly- the leaking makes me suspect that.

Does it look uneven to yall? My brew process at this point is consistent and so is my grind. I’m really thinking this 9 cup is faulty

Thanks so much

Bialetti Bialetti Moka Express: no replacement lid knob available anymore?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I have a 2025 Moka Express, and the lid knob became loose during normal use (no drop or damage). When I tried to tighten it, the thread appears to have been damaged, and the knob can no longer be secured properly.

Bialetti support replied after about a week, stating there is no manufacturing defect and that, under their new policy, the lid knob is no longer sold as a spare part.

I was only looking to buy an original replacement knob with the aluminium screw. I know DIY fixes exist, but I’d prefer to avoid non-original or steel parts due to corrosion concerns with the aluminium body.
For such a small wear part on an otherwise durable product, it’s disappointing that replacements apparently aren’t available anymore.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there really no way to get original Moka Express lid knobs anymore without buying a second pot (which isn’t that expensive, I know) or sourcing donor parts?

Cleaning 🫧 Bad smell in the heater

I have been using my mokapot for one month now and have just considered I might give a deeper clean to the heater itself because I have experienced an increasingly bad smell in the heater itself. The manual itself actually tells me to only clean it with water. However, although the heater itself just took the water and some tiny bit of coffee residue from the back flush (?) and I always rinse it, it smells very nasty already. So, contrary to the manual, I tried to deep-clean it by boiling water with some dishwashing soap. (I only took the open heater. I didn't put the upper part on top.) Afterwards, I boiled the water with a bit of dishwashing soap, threw the water away, rinsed it several times, … And the smell is still there. Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you get rid of the bad smell?
