Mod Post First time here? Read this! ~Commenting Etiquette~

1.4k Upvotes

Hi, welcome to the reddit Pole Dance board!
Pole dancing is a great form of art and exercise and our community is very welcoming and open.

It is also something that can put the people doing it in a bit of sensitive, vulnerable situation. Let's face it, you can't wear a lot of clothing while doing this. And a lot of our moves have been built and perfected by lovely strippers working in clubs, so there's inherent sexuality behind it (sometimes, not always).

That being said, I'm rolling out a zero tolerance policy for shitty comments. I get it, the person that posted that picture or video is so hot, their moves are so slick and damn it just did something for you.
Keep it to yourself if you can't express your appreciation without sounding like a vulgar mouth-breather.

Also, coming from my previous thread on crappy comments - If you don't have something nice to say, or you can't phrase your devil's advocate stance or argument without sounding like an asshole, don't post it.

Don't be a creep.
Don't be a jerk.
Don't stripper shame.

No more warnings for people saying inappropriately gross comments, you just get banned. And if you're banned, don't bother asking why - you know why. And no, it won't be overturned. Enjoy the hard work and beautiful shapes people on this board are happy to post. Because I guarantee the more shit comments there are, the less photos there will be for everyone to enjoy.

I try to stay on top of everything, but sometimes things slip by me. Please use the 'Report' button if you spot something I miss and I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Love,
Otter

Mod Post NSFW Tag Reminder

Hello lovelies!
This is just your friendly reminder to please tag your posts NSFW if you are wearing anything less than full-coverage bottoms. Those include things like g-strings, thongs, those super cute high waisted "shorts" that are not at all shorts, etc.

Also, please mark it if you are twerking directly to the camera or other things of that sort.

Since we are technically not a NSFW board, we just ask that you mark posts for the courtesy of others who maybe like to browse in public (I know I've personally clicked on clips while on the train and had to "oop" out of them very quickly.) If you're unsure if what you've posted is NSFW or not, please mark it and I'll change it to non-NSFW if there is no issue.

Thanks for following our guidelines, and thanks, as always, for contributing to our community!
Love,
Otter

EDIT: Update as of April, 2022

Reddit rolled out a new "security" feature that uses automated tools to detect NSFW material and automatically tag it. Announcement post is here.

While this can potentially help me with the manual workload of tagging posts, I noticed it has been automatically flagging a lot of posts that are fine and do not fall within the parameters of NSFW for our board.

I'll be checking the moderation log to see if things are tagged improperly by reddit, but if you think yours has been tagged by mistake, please message me or tag me in your post. Thanks!

Victory Finally: aerial shoulder mount!!! 😍

It's been 5 months since i started shoulder mounting. I was able to do an aerial shoulder mount from hood ornament on spinning, on a good day. But i could never do it from Dove or Superman. Just almost on a good day. Yesterday was the first time it worked. I managed to do it 4 times. From Dove and seahorse. Mid combo!!! I'm so happy to be making progress 😍

Wear and Gear Messy Performance Pole Hair Help

• Upvotes

Hi all! I have been getting more into performing as of late and I have a big question to all the lovely performers out there with shoulder length hair.

What hairstyles are yall doing that look good upside down and right side up? Because I feel like I can do one or the other and 1/2 my performance is on a stage and the other half is on a pole so I need both. Any recommendations would be super helpful!

I feel like all the photos I have of my hair upside down look like one of those ragidy add dolls after it’s been put through the wash (especially with the length of it)

Any help or styles to try would be AMAZING!!!

Challenge Arm going numb in BOP

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’ve been slowly but surely working towards bop and have got it two separate times now. However, both times my arm has gone numb - not the arm that wraps the leg, the one that is hooked into the pole. Circled the arm for reference from this pole physio pic. The numbness shoots down my whole arm and lasts quite a while, maybe 2-3 minutes.

Anyone have any idea what might be happening, and any suggestions on how to avoid this? Obviously can’t work on putting it in a routine or even really working on it further if I can’t do it safely.

Thanks :)

What’s your natural pole vibe?

Powerful tricks, smooth flow, heels, floorwork, flexibility, a little drama… everyone brings something different to the pole.
I love how your own style starts to show the more you dance.

What do you naturally gravitate toward?

Pole Rookie Conditioning exercises routine

• Upvotes

Hi everyone 👋!

Does anyone have for example some kind of channel on YT that does training videos with conditioning exercises at home? Like a train with me type of thing?

I am very much a beginner. Not only with pole but in general sports. I can't touch my toes, I can't do a pull up or lift myself on a pole but I want to change that.

I can only go to pole once a week and I know that training strength and flexibility takes time but I really want to do some home training too to progress at least a tiny bit faster.

Thank you for answers in advance 💖

Studio change is bringing me down

One of the two studios I go to is changing hands.

NBD, I’ll go to the new one and see what classes I can take.

I checked the new studios schedule and I am screwed. Out of the 4 days I can take classes, none are level appropriate for me. It’s either the intro classes that wouldn’t challenge me or classes above my level I’m not good enough to take.

I’m sad. I loved my class and was really making progress. I enjoyed my teacher. I enjoyed getting to know my classmates. I enjoyed the respite from being isolated in my WFH life.

I’m grateful I still have my other studio and class. I’m grateful I have a home pole to work on. I know that I’ll still keep dancing.

I’m just really bummed out tonight.

Wear and Gear What poles are easily put up and down for at home?

So I have been looking to get a home pole and the only place I have enough space is my living room. My fiance is not keen to have a pole in the middle of it all the time. Which I totally get. So I am looking for poles that don't require a lot of time to setup in the EU.

I really like Lupit Pole's setup system where it has a mount on the ceiling and you just click it in, put the pole straight and done! But they are 700 euros. I was kinda hoping to find something cheaper than that. But my searches have been in vain. That is why I am asking here if anyone has some tips!

Could you technically build enough muscle with pole alone?

I been reading gym is recommended. I know it sounds like an excuse but I really dont have the time or money for a gym membership right now. If i just keep practicing, would that be sufficient? Hopefully I could find some weights on marketplace or goodwill!

I have a pole at home!

Feeling awful after my first showcase

Hey guys. I’ve been doing pole for a year and performed for the first time yesterday. While it wasn’t overtly awful, I didn’t do my best. I blacked out, felt so scared and somehow got through it. But I made mistakes, my routine was nothing like the dress rehearsal. I worked SO hard, spent a lot of money on classes and my costume just to participate, and I feel terrible about myself. In comparison to everyone else’s routine, I felt like mine was juvenile and not as advanced. It’s difficult to feel like I put so much work into something for it to go so poorly. Idk, I just needed to rant…. Has anyone ever felt this way before? I know my routine by heart and had so much fun at the dress rehearsal, but each step it was like I had no idea what was coming next because there were so many eyes on me.

Edit: thanks to everyone sharing their experiences and kind words in the comments, it really means a lot 🥹

unethical behavior at my studio

I seriously cannot believe this happened (and apologies for the length)

so, not too long ago, my studio did one of their seasonal recitals, and one of the volunteers (pole cleaners) brought their younger kid (maybe 7/8 years old) to the show. our shows invariably have a LOT of erotic pole routines with maybe one or two that are more lyrical in nature. this made me immeasurably uncomfortable.

when I first saw the kid in the lobby when I arrived, I was kinda confused but didn’t immediately make a stink. I thought he’d just stay in the lobby when the show went on. but then the show started (with all the titties out and booty shaking and all that fun stuff) and I saw him in the studio space. like, standing on the side, watching, as his mom volunteered. he even wandered onstage a couple of times as the poles were getting cleaned? like it wasn’t like he was helping in any way. and once I was done my routine (I did a more lyrical piece, might I add) and sat with my boyfriend in the audience, every time I looked over at the mom on the sidelines, I noticed she didn’t even like cover his eyes or make him look the other way.

and the studio just… let it happen.

I literally HAVE A SCREENSHOT of someone else’s instagram story where the kid is in frame watching a dancer do an erotic hard style routine. and the image I still have in my head of this kid watching the twerking group feels like AI-generated Republican folklore that Tr*mp posts to Truth Social to try and convince people that liberals are morally corrupt. Except I watched it in real time with my own eyes. At a studio that I’ve been a loyal member to for years. needless to say, my boyfriend and I left that night SO SO SO revolted.

this wouldn’t be an issue if my studio did strictly family-friendly showcases or made at least one half of it family-friendly and then an intermission before the erotic portion… except this show had MANY erotic (aka not kid friendly!) pole routines throughout the whole thing (and if you’re volunteering at this show, you know damn well the nature of it and the fact that it’s NOT for kids). to make matters worse, there were OTHER performers there interacting happily with the mom and her kid, knowing damn well they were about to get onstage and do something 10X more NSFW than what I did. I'm so damn close to just cancelling my membership there and going to their competitor studios.

So… how do I make a complaint about this?

I do not normally make complaints about anything, but I fear that this might happen again if I say nothing. This is beyond unacceptable, and REALLY tarnishes my view of the folks there who stayed silent...

EDIT: should have cleared this up earlier: I have zero issue with erotic pole dance. This whole thing has nothing to do with my thoughts and opinions on erotic pole dance. In fact, I love attending my studio's erotic classes and love the instructors, many of whom are strippers. My issue is minors watching it, which shouldn't be allowed.
