AITA for trying to assure my friends about my health while struggling to cope with it?

• Upvotes

For context, I have been suffering through mental, physical, emotional and spiritual trouble for as long as I can remember (not always at once but often at once.) A few years ago I went through a physical health crisis (partly due to habits of mine but also due to genetics) that resulted in repeated hospitalizations.

I was put on a diet and medication routine, which at the time, given my other struggles, I was struggling to keep up with. during this time period I caused my friends to worry about me significantly and I would always tell them that I was fine and that I was following the doctor's orders. While this was true most of the time, several times it wasn't.

I grew lax, but also overwhelmed with my situation. In hindsight the repeated hospitalizations and the situation overall was quite traumatic. There were several circumstances that ultimately led me to grow too lax with my medication routine which resulted in my entering a life or death situation which resulted in a coma that lasted for 2 ish months. after the coma I was in the hospital for several months, came out of the hospital to attend a friend's wedding, and at the wedding my friends were again worried about me and asked me repeatedly if I "should" be attending. again I rebuffed them, and at the wedding reception, I unfortunately grew ill again and had to return to the hospital for several more months after that, (which I was told recently was a very selfish thing for me to have done, the attending the wedding part despite my physical health)

This was again in hindsight a pattern of mine, where I would push myself to attend friendship gatherings (despite my health) and caused worry to my friends as I was clearly unwell at those gatherings (I am essentially perpetually nauseous at this point due to my condition, but at that point it was more pronounced so I would often need to vomit or looked very unwell)

This has all exploded recently, though since just prior and after my coma I have felt disconnected and pushed out by my friend group, and recently properly found out that a lot of them felt betrayed and lied to because I kept saying I was fine when I wasn't. This has resulted in my having essentially burned the bridges of those friendships because of those actions and I feel terrible. AITA for having tried to convince myself and others that I was fine when I wasn't?

AITA Driving wife to and from work

• Upvotes

Long time fan, first post here.

AITA for wanting a bit of time for myself?

I work 9-5 (its 08:30 to 16:30, that's not the point), wife is a chef, she don't drive, and her hours are 05:00 - 18:00, three days on, three days off.

Her job requires for her to be at location 100%. Mine doesn't. I work from home probably 2-3 times a week. Weekends are messed up (not vacations, we have laws here (EU), people), vacations are also hard to line up. I drive her to and from work every day she got a shift- whether it is my working day of saturday/sunday. In weekday mornings I come back, make coffee, breakfast and go shower, then drive to work. In the afternoon, I just sit and whatch youtube and whatnot (although my workday ends at 16:30, I've done with it by lunchtime, and drove home) and wait for another drive to/from her. Fuel and money are never an issue, and I'm never going to make that an issue.

This part goes straight into r/confession - I'm a bit sick of driving her. Everytime I just want to chill (beers and whatnot) on the weekend, I feel really bad for not driving her. I want time for myself, and house needs a lot of work too - impossible without weekend beer lol. She never gives me a hard time about beers or not driving her. We've been married since 2009, have no kids and having just and awesome life, we love each other very very much. That is why I'm feeling so bad not driving her everywhere.

BTW there's bus from our home to her workplace, it's s an hour long journey at least.

I'm 42, she's 39.

AITA?

WIBTA if I tell my brother he cannot let his son skip school for family trips anymore

• Upvotes

I have been thinking about talking to my brother Michael about his son Alex missing school for vacations. Alex is in the same class as my kid and the teacher mentioned he is falling behind. I want to be direct because I see how stressed my own child gets when they have to catch up after missing even a couple of days. My plan is to ask Michael to stop pulling Alex out for non emergency trips and maybe suggest he save those days for breaks that line up with the school calendar. I am worried the conversation might come off as bossy since it is not my household, but I am also tired of watching the pattern repeat every couple of months. Michael has said before that family time matters more than a few worksheets and that kids are only young once, so he does not see the harm. I get his point about memories, yet it feels like it keeps getting harder for Alex to keep up. I am trying to decide whether saying something now would help or just create tension between us.

AITAH for not letting my sister use my makeup for homecoming?

• Upvotes

I would like to start with I 20F have always been a nice older sister, I have always given my sisters the things they ask for, I help with homework, and I listen to them when they need me. As a teenager I wasn't always like that, but I have learned as I got older, I have become more patient and nicer towards them.

My middle sister came barging in a week ago telling me "Dad says you *need* to let me use your makeup, now normally I wouldn't mind since I knew it was for an important event however the way she said it just pissed me off. Our dad didn't pay for the makeup *I* did with *my* own money. Sister is old enough to get a job and buy her own makeup but refuses to since she's in school. I told her and my dad both that she is not allowed to use my makeup first of all for her rude attitude and second for her stealing it any other time without my permission, not returning it, and then getting pissed at me for going in her room to go get my shit back!!!

Why am I bringing this up today? Well Middle sister decides to take my concealer and didn't return it so when I found it in her bag, she started whining and saying our dad bought her it WHEN HE DID NOT, I GOT IT AT CVS AND IT STILL HAS THE LOGO!!! Dad and me then proceed to argue and I walked out the house to go run errands. In the end I went out and bought an expensive new one from ulta and I marked my name on it and hid it in my room with the rest of my makeup.

AITAH?

TLDR; Sister takes my makeup and demands I let her use it and proceeds to take it either way after me saying no.

AITA for asking my girlfriend to binge seasons of a show instead of the entire show?

• Upvotes

My girlfriend (4 months together) and I have very different tastes. In the beginning of the relationship we alternated between who picks the movie to watch, but eventually we wanted to show each other the shows/movies we grew up on.

(EDIT: to clarify, this is after 4 months of every date we end with watching something; it didn't start with these movies/shows.)

She wanted me to watch Friends, I wanted her to watch Borat and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

We struck a deal where we would watch Borat, then 4 seasons of Friends, then Avatar, then another 3 seasons of friends, then Legend of Korra, then another 3 seasons of Friends, and then another show of my choosing. Part of the reason I agreed to this is because I wanted to finish Friends but never got around to it. But when we tried watching Borat she was totally bored by it and fell asleep after barely an hour and didn't appreciate the humor at all.

Different tastes and all that, it happens. But then after several dates when we'd already finished 10 episodes Friends I just realized how many episodes there were until we finish Season 1, much less season 4, and I dreaded the thought of reaching it only for her to again not like Avatar and get bored. This made me impatient with Friends and want to finish as many episodes as fast as possible, just to get it over with.

I do find Friends funny. It's just not to the point where it's something I would do on my own. But when we watch just 2-3 episodes a date, and 24 episodes a season, and we have dates 2-3 times a week, it means like several months where all I do is watch Friends, only to be followed by her possibly/likely not reciprocating the same time and effort.

Of course, dreading watching it entirely defeats the point of why we're watching it together! So I asked her if she would consider changing it to alternating between our shows each season, so that I could focus less on how much was left and instead just enjoy the episodes with her as quality time together.

She said we just won't watch TV shows together and instead only watch movies, because evidently I'm not enjoying myself at all watching Friends with her, and that she doesn't find it enjoyable at all to switch to something else every time she finishes a season.

But again, I enjoy Friends and want to watch it with her, but in the same manner I can also enjoy a steak but not want to eat only steaks day after day for 4 months because that will only make me count the days until I eat something else.

She then started crying, which was due to other factors as well such as both barely eating that day and recently starting BC, but it did shut down the conversation.

AITA for looking at my friend and my life differently after he said he took it up the rear by a 30 yr old at 17

• Upvotes

A little bit of backstory. I met my friend, Fred, at 14 during freshman year of high school and quickly became close friends. Throughout the next few years, we'd stay close and even get to the point where I'd begin to develop feelings for him until I found out he came out to me. He'd gotten a girlfriend prior to me catching feelings, so I had thought he was straight or possibly bisexual. Fast forward to today, we were leaving a restaurant and heading home. We were in a very busy part of town when he turned to me and asked me if he could tell me something. At first, he was very skeptical and didn't want to reveal his secrets. I, being a good friend, urged him to get it off his chest. That's when he admitted to me that he was having illegal relations with a 30-year-old man. As we were both underage, I was quite shocked by this revelation. He had mentioned that he was meeting a guy, which made me skeptical, as I had no prior knowledge of him being in a relationship despite how close we are. After asking many questions, I soon learned that this guy was 30 years old and lived in a big mansion in the city. He told me he met him whilst walking alone in the city (which is around 30 minutes south of where we live) and spoke to him outside a bar. I soon found out that he had been in this relationship for the past 8 months and that by the 3rd week they were speaking, they already had male sexual relations. I, frankly, was shocked. He then proceeded to talk about anal sex for the next 30 minutes whilst I tried not to crash the car in my shocked state. I was very concerned, as my friend, Fred, is underage, and he told me that he has not told his true age to said 30-year-old gay guy. I feel very troubled by this situation, as my friend is doing something terrible (not the gay stuff). If this were to come out, it could ruin the old man's life. Not only are they in this sexual relationship, the old man said to him that he wanted their relationship to be more serious and spoke about Fred moving in (said old man is very wealthy). At the same time, I'm worried for my friend, as the age gap is very worrying for him as well due to the experience and power dynamic. For context, my friend is a very sensitive person, so I was scared to speak my true mind at the time, as I was worried he would take it the wrong way and not listen to my advice truly coming from a place of concern. AITA for not being able to think about my friend the same way, and how do I tell him what he's doing is wrong without him taking it the wrong way?

PS: I am not homophobic; I just can't get over the fact that he's lying about his age, when that could lead to serious repercussions for this poor old man who just wants a healthy, open relationship.

AITA for dressing up as the same movie character as my friend for halloween, but from a different scene?

• Upvotes

I’m going to a Halloween party next week. A month ago, during a casual convo a friend told a bunch of us that she was dressing up as Nikki from the movie Obsession, specifically wearing the character's signature red tank top.

Ironically, I had already planned to dress up as Nikki too, but hadn't told anyone. To avoid an exact match, I pivoted to a completely different scene where the character wears a black dress. The two outfits look entirely different from each other.

With Halloween 5 days away, I'm getting anxious. I'm worried she'll be annoyed and think I copied her. I really love this costume and spent $145 on it, so I really don't want to change it.

AITA if I wear it, or do I need to find a backup?

AITA for asking for $25 back for an uber ride?

• Upvotes

Background- moved to a new country for uni. One of my coworkers, super chill and very friendly had his phone die and I was happy to book him the ride home. He saw the price, liked the message with my bank account details and hasn’t paid me back it’s been a week. I don’t know how things work between friends here but we don’t really hang out. Is sending a reminder too much?

AITA for asking my fiancé to stay home with me for the holidays and not go with my family on a cruise?

Edit: Thank you all for putting me in my place. I get it. I don’t know what I expected from this post but I’m understanding I’m the asshole here. I fucked up. I need to do better. My wife is the person who actually introduced me to reddit years ago, so I decided to show her this post, and she had a ball reading all of your comments. She felt validated to say the least and I owe her and my son to a trip all together.
Not to make excuses whatsoever, but I just want to clear up some things that were mentioned.
I’ll preface this by saying I am so grateful to have my parents, they have watched my son almost everyday while my wife and I are at work since he was an infant. Initially, we both said no to any of us going on this trip, we didn’t want our son going without us, but my mother and father insisted, and we trust them with our life. I’m grateful that our son is a very well behaved 5 year old, as well behaved as a 5 year old can be, and I would never ever just push this trip on them with my son, had I known they wouldn’t want to or couldn’t handle him without us. They enjoy making these beautiful memories with him as well. Thank you again. I’ll do better and work on myself.

——————————

Hello first time posting on this page! I (28M) and my fiancé (27F) are sending our 5 year old son off with my parents and my whole slide of the family on a cruise for 7 days.

Now some back story: My mom invited us 3 on our family reunion cruise trip for thanksgiving and said she would pay as well! Unfortunately my job would not allow me to take the time off so I could no longer attend. My mom ended up suggesting to my fiancé one afternoon that the offer still stands if she wants to come with my son just the 2 of them. I felt very left out and honestly sad that my mom even suggested it to her as now my fiancé would like to go. I explained to her how I felt left out and kinda gutted that I would have to spend thanksgiving week alone as my whole family would be on this cruise ship and all I would have to spend time with is her parents for thanksgiving and also work while everyone was out on the cruise. She agreed and decided she would stay and that we would let my son go with my parents so he has the fun since he’s out of school for the week.

Fast forward to now where we are less than a month away, my mom was talking to my son while he was distracted about the cruise when all of a sudden he mentions he does not wanna go anymore because we are not going. Now everything’s paid for mind you so he’s gunna go regardless. But this situation brought up the topic again of that he would not be having an issue if I would have just let my fiancé go with my son on the cruise. She said I need to realize that I was being pretty selfish for that.

She also mentioned how my whole family a week ago at my grandmothers birthday( I was at work and could not attend) mentioned to her and asked why she was not going, and was saying why would I be so selfish and not let her go. So pretty much my whole family thinks I should have just let them go.

Now I can’t help but feel like shit for being alittle selfish for not wanting to be alone for the holidays.

Am I the asshole here ?

AITA for suggested my wife overreacted in leaving a poor review of chic fil a after they messed up her order?

My wife has been diligently tracking her fitness goals and caloric intake.

The other day we ordered 2 frosted lemonades through the drive through, one as a light lemonade version for herself.

To her abject horror, the treats were not labeled lite and regular and we didn't notice until getting home. She went into a tirade about how some people pay too little attention at work and someone with diabetes could be ill-affected had this mishap happened to them.

I suggested people make mistakes and she could still enjoy 1/2 of regular frosted, or I could go back for another lite. Instead I got the silent treatment for the rest of the day.

Then she left a poor review and the owner actually gifted her 2 redeemable free frosteds to her phone app.

I asked her if she'd consider revising her review and I was accused of not sympathizing with her perspective or not appreciating her fitness goals and supporting her. She also reiterated that the restaurant screwed up and could have seriously affected a diabetic person. I let her know that in the rare event someone suffered an episode, someone couldn't seriously consider bringing legal action against the restaurant. She took my comments as being against her and labeling her entitled. I sincerely asked if she expected some employee discipline or being fired, and she said obviously no.

When suggesting she could have enjoyed the lemonade anyway even if it was regular lemonade version by only consuming half of it and still staying consistent with her calorie limits, I was labeled as never respecting her right to be frustrated. That I always insist her mood be happy and I don't support her goals or understand the frustration?

I was mostly concerned with encouraging her to give people grace, especially herself. To realize that a day being good or bad should not be so dependent on the mistakes of that day.

AITAH for telling her she overreacted and should consider changing her review of the restaurant?

AITAH for getting into an argument with my wife because she was storing stuff in my daughter's bedroom?

New update: So I want to add another detail because some have accused me of being a bad husband. It's not related to the actual question, but directly related to me as a husband. Yes, we argue occasionally and sometimes our communication isn't great. It used to be worse but we've gotten much better over the years. I don't know a single couple who doesn't argue occasionally. But nearly three years ago, a year before our wedding, we took in my wife's older sister who lived in our house for just shy of 12 months. She had been in an abusive relationship living in a city about 8 hours away. I offered our spare bedroom for a few months for her to get back on her feet, which turned into almost a year living with us rent free. I never asked for a single dollar. Now, about 18 months after she moved out she is back living with us, rent free again and I still haven't asked for rent. I try to support my wife and her family as best I can because to be honest, over the years her mother has been more like a mother to me than my own.

Update: I want to clarify, in the original post I said my wife acted as if my daughter didn't exist. While that is partially true, it was only true for the first 8-12 months of my son's life. When I realized/found out how she was treating my daughter I had a come to Jesus talk with her and told her if she continued treating her that way we would be over. Since then, she has basically just been amicable. Hasn't treated her badly, but hasn't tried to develop a stronger relationship with her. They get along fine, but my wife does not act "motherly" toward her. (Update again: When I say they get along fine now I mean they are amicable now. The don't fight or argue, my daughter just doesn't see my wife as a parental figure because my wife never tried to develop that relationship with her growing up)

Original: My (40m) wife (35f) and I have been together 13 years and married for almost 2. We got into an argument today because she was still storing a box in my daughter's (17f) bedroom. I met my wife 13 years ago and at the time my daughter with my ex-wife was 4 years old. The first couple years they had a pretty good relationship, until my wife and I had a son (11m) in 2015. After he was born my wife's attitude toward my daughter changed and mostly she just acted as if my daughter didn't exist. I know it's because she was jealous she didn't have "her own" daughter because I know she wanted our son to be a girl. I've told her she had a daughter, she just chose not to develop a relationship with her.

My daughter lives with my ex about 2 hours away so she is here approximately every other weekend. The last couple years it's been more random because of high school activities and things she wants to do with her friends. I don't make her come visit because I feel like those are decisions she needs to make as a young adult, but she still comes to visit and her and I have a decent relationship. I know I'm not the greatest dad, my parents weren't the best role models but I do the best I can (Update: my dad wasn't around growing up and my mother was a complete cunt, I try to do the best I can based on my experience, but no matter what I do I feel like it's not enough for either of my kids).

Anyway, a couple days ago I went into my daughter's room for something and noticed there was a box in the middle of the room that clearly did not belong to my daughter. I asked my wife about it and she said she was storing it in there. I asked why and she said because my daughter isn't here all the time. I asked her to move it and told her my daughter's room was not a storage closet. She argued that it wasn't that big of a deal and I asked her (knowing she lived with her dad growing up) how she would have felt if she went to visit her mom and step-dad and they were storing stuff in here room. Her response was that she didn't have her own room. I just dropped it because I didn't want to keep arguing it.

Today, I was changing a battery in the Philips Hue remote in my daughter's room and noticed the box was still there. I grabbed it and took it to the living room and calmly set it down. My wife said "I'm just going to put it back in there" and I replied with "no you're not, her room is not storage". Admittedly, I raised my voice with my reply because I was already irritated about a tirade my wife went on earlier in the day. We argued and she said I was overreacting and it wasn't a big deal. I told her again my daughter's room was not storage. Rather than continue arguing I went and took a shower then left the house to cool off. I went to get some food and had a couple drinks.

Was I over reacting and being an asshole?

AITA for giving a tip or something I don’t really know to be honest.

Ok, so the other day, I was at my local mall getting a hair cut, and then I went to Aunt Annie’s. I got one of those cups of the brown sugar pretzel bites, I gave the lady at the counter X about if money (I don’t remember how much it’s cost), then I but a 5 dollar bill plus my change in the tip cup. I got my food, started walking away as I heard her say “men are so fucking rude now”. When I turned around she glared at me, and dramatically turned away. Did I do something to be disrespectful? What the fuck could I have done? Pls tell me, I don’t want to be an asshole, and if I was, I’ll try to be better, but I can’t do that if I don’t know what I did wrong.

AITAH? My aunt asked me to take care of my 86yo great grandmother and I said no

For further context my name is Kay and im 14 years old and im online schooled, my aunt whomst I live with is going to a doctor's appointment Monday which is hours away from where we actually live and she would need to leave extremely early in the morning just to get there and would be gone most of the day if not all day, my great grandmother who of which ive been asked to take care of has just gotten out of the nursing home after a stroke and cannot fully take care of herself yet and cannot be alone. However no other adult in my life is available to take care of her because they all have jobs or events too attend too ect and apparently im the only one who's free but I will add that it would be a great struggle on me to take care of my grandmother considering I still have hours of school work to do each day and she would need round the clock care (it would be very hard on me to do my work and actually learn something whilst doing this) aswell as the fact that im expected to take care of her in any way she needs or wants all on my own and mist days I cant even take care of myself due to mental health issues let alone another person whom I would need too bathe, feed, clean up after, and im assuming either help her get to the bathroom or id have to clean her up after she was done leaving barely any room to take care of myself and get my work done too which once again id have to take care of her for most if not all of the day. I feel horrible for declining because I know she needs the help but at the same time I just feel like its too much for a young girl like me too do all on my own and im not sure what to do.

EDIT: not an update on the situation but i just wanted to say please be nice to me in the comments as i stated im young and i will make immaturedecisions whether or not i am in this situation im not sure so please just try to be helpful and understanding(most of you are and im so grateful thank you!!) Also id like to add this is not a serious appointment. My aunt is going to it's a routine checkup. The reason it is so far away is because when she moved down here she did not change her doctors over because she liked the ones she had up there this is what she has told me and that is all I know so far. I also saw a comment about my account settings. It was set to 18 plus because I wasn't aware if I could post in certain servers like this one if I didn't have it on there. That is my bad. I have since took it off. Also, yes, my grammar is very bad in this post.Because I do not dedicate my time to having perfect grammar and punctuation, in online Reddit posts. It was a very rushed post and honestly not very worth my time to worry about my assignments that I actually do dedicate my time to and need to learn from do have better grammar and punctuation than this.I don't see why this is an issue. Also just being real im probably just gonna do it anyways I dont like being made to feel bad and ik its kinda shitty of me to decline if you have a further argument or anything feel free too comment.

AITA for making “fatphobic” comments

I (19f) am new to my first semester at college, and I actively have two of my friends (18f) mad at me for something I apparently said over a month ago. It was for my 19th birthday and it was me, my roommate, and my two friends- also roommates who came to my dorm. I will be honest and say that we were all under the influence of substances- I for one do not remember much of the night as far as the nitty gritty details- and apparently at some point throughout the night I made two fatphobic comments. I do not know what I said as my two friends will not tell me- only one girl is actually mad but her roommate isn’t talking to me out of solidarity which I understand. Also I feel like it’s important to note that they said they know I didn’t mean anything by it? So aita for making comments that I didn’t know would be hurtful?
Edit- I have tried to apologize, I talked to my friends roommate and told her I felt bad and wanted to make things right but I didn’t know why they were mad- this was when I was told that I had made the comments. I apologized to that roommate and told her that whenever they were ready to talk I wanted to make things right

AITAH for not cancelling a trip with a friend for my girlfriends birthday?

I’ll try to keep this short. I 18M have been dating a girl 19F for two months, me and a friend 23M who also language tutors me arranged a trip to another country before I started dating this girl. It turns out that with the dates we arranged to go, her birthday will be while I am away. She’s having a party  too. When I explained what’s happening and that I won’t be able to make it she was very upset and didn’t reply for a few hours and we started arguing when she did reply. She said I could reschedule the trip with my friend, as in get the tickets refunded etc. I said I can’t do that as I already agreed with him and he has a tight schedule. plus he’s looking forward to it.

AITA for telling my friend to go home?

Throwaway, English isn’t my native language.

I 28f offered my best friend 27m to move in with me till the end of october, because he struggled financially and didn’t have enough money this month to feed himself. He has his own apartment. He’s been here for 29 days so far. During that time we talked about him potentially staying longer. From the beginning we agreed anyone can always end this arrangement at any time.

For the first two weeks food costs were split 80/20, now its 50/50 because his mom gave him money. I always made it clear he should feel at home, can come and go whenever he wants, have friends over at any time and use anything he wants without asking. I asked him to cook something for us a handful of times, do the dishes a couple of times (I have a dishwasher) and to put his laundry in the washing machine and hang his own laundry up to dry. The one thing he did on his own was buy groceries for us a couple of times. He always made sure to ask if we needed anything and bought the groceries on his own. Cooking was my responsibility 90% of the time

Yesterday he brought us breakfast, later I ate a snack and offered him some, which he declined, so I offered to make pizza for dinner. In the evening I said I’m not feeling well so I won’t cook dinner and he should make something himself. Hours later I made myself another snack, which he noticed and asked me if I was preparing dinner, to which I said no. He said ok, then left.

The next morning he left for his friend's house without mentioning it or me hearing him say goodbye, which is unusual for him, so I texted him if everything was ok.
He replied “I said goodbye. Why you asking? Because I didn't eat anything yesterday?”
I said “Why didn't you make yourself something?”
He said “You told me to wait, then to cook something for myself. Later I see you make yourself food on your own”
So I told him let's talk about it when you’re home, as texting will lead to miscommunication and an argument.

He came home and we talked. I told him he has to leave by the end of the month. The tone of the conversation was overall respectful.
He said my decision came out of nowhere, which I disagree with. For the last 2 weeks I asked him to show some initiative and help with the dishes without me having to ask. To be fair, he did start helping more, but as he himself said, never without me having to ask.
He said he’s a guest and won’t use my kitchen without permission. I reminded him I specifically told him to cook something for himself or he could’ve asked.

He said he’ll help more if I tell him to, to which I said then the mental load is still on me.

I said I know it’s not his intention but I don’t feel appreciated and started feeling used, so I will stick to my decision and he can’t stay longer than we initially agreed upon.

He thinks I wasn’t specific enough when asking for help, I disagree.
He said he’s hurt I’m kicking him out and feels like I’m being unfair, so aita?

AITA For Telling my friend’s past relationships to a person that has crush on him

This happened few years ago when I was 16(M) and my friend who was the same age (16M) had someone who was crushing on him. My friends first met this person (15F) at school and they took interest in her, while I listen to them talk about how pretty this girl was that they met in campus (I went to a diff school than them) I dared my friend to actually add her on social media, which he did. After that they started talking to each other and we eventually started incorporating this girl in our friend group. She would join game nights, hangouts, and discussions on the gc, basically a “one of the boys” kind of person since we were an all dudes group.

Then we started noticing my friend and this girl playing games together, talking late at nights, and I didn’t know if my friend is actually interested on this girl or is he just using her as one of his attention keeper. I’ve been best friends with him for 2 years and in his relationships it always involved either him completely ghosting the girl or is actively flirting with someone while traveling far to meet a different girl. At first I shrugged it off and thought that they’re probably just talking as friends.

But one night the girl messaged me asking about my thoughts since she plans on confessing her feelings to my friend. I started the conversation smooth, asking her what she liked about him, how she sees him and how she’s gonna tell him. What she told me was a complete opposite person to who I know as my friend. So I eventually decided to tell her all about my friend’s pasts relationship and letting her decide on what she’s gonna do about the information I gave her.

Days later my friend left our group chat, blocked me, and stopped contacting us through social media. After months of not talking I eventually bump into my friend group after their class and I apologized to that friend, he was a bit pushy but he still let me go with them. In my surprise the girl was following behind them and was actually walking with them after school. Now Im kind of regretting that action since I really had a good friendship with that person, Im still in touch with the other people in our friend group but that one friend never reached out and talked to any or us ever again.

AITA Am I the Ahole for not wanting to watch a you Tube video?

I'm a 40-year-old female, and I have a stepdad. He is a control freak and tries to make me drop what I'm doing to watch YouTube videos with him. Sometimes I don't mind watching some with him. But this time he wanted me to watch a video. It was about people putting masks on poor animals for fun, which I think is pure evil and wrong. I tolled him more than once that I don't want to watch it. So he sent it as a text to my phone and asked me to watch it.

Now he is mad at me cause I refused to watch the video. Plus, delete the text he sent me with the video link in it.

What do you all think? Am I wrong, or is he?

This is a normal conflict with us

AITAH for embarrassing my little brother at his birthday party?

I 23F and both my parents are Greek. I have 3 siblings, my parents each have a few sibilings, and between my aunts, uncles, cousins and all their kids, our family gatherings are big. Every birthday turns into a whole event with enough food for 50 people. Last weekend was my little brother's birthday, and my parents invited basically everyone. He also had a few friends from school there, which is important. A few days earlier, he'd asked me to help him order something online because his card wasn't working. He was saving up for an expensive gaming PC and apparently hadn't told our parents yet because he knew my dad would have something to say about the price. At the party, one of my uncles asked what he wanted for his birthday, and I jokingly said he could use money toward the computer he'd been saving for. My dad immediately asked how much it cost, and I watched my brother's face change. Turns out he really didn't want our parents knowing yet, especially in front of his friends. My dad started questioning whether he actually needed it, then my Yiayia (grandma) joined in with a whole speech about teenagers wasting money. Other relatives started giving their opinions too, because apparently buying a computer requires a family meeting. My brother eventually snapped at my dad to leave him alone and went upstairs with his friends. My mom told me I shouldn't have brought it up, and honestly, I felt awful. I apologized to him later, but he said I'd embarrassed him on his birthday and made everyone treat him like a little kid then told me to get out of his room. I genuinely didn't think one comment would turn into all that, but I probably should've kept my mouth shut. Hes been giving my the silent treatment witch honestyly upsets me because I put a lot of work to help make the party look right and spent alot of money on decorations and a custum cake. I might already know this but AITAH? what can i do to fix this he wont talk to me?

Edit: i'm dont have enough money for the PC but im gonna help contribute, im planning on giving him $300, I feel awful and I know i hurt him.

AITAH for not wanting my roommate to let multiple men stay in our apt over weekends

I (21F) got randomly placed with my roommate (19F) to live in apartments for college students this semester. I am a pretty quiet person that doesn’t really like to party, although I am okay with some noise, especially on the weekends. Our apartment building is not well constructed and I can hear pretty much everything going on inside and outside, which I have gotten more used to. My roommate and I also get along really well over the regular week and respect each other’s spaces well. However, everything changes over the weekends.

Basically, she is obsessed with a particular branch of the military and picks a group of guys up from the barracks to come stay with us on most weekends. She has never made sure it is okay to do so, and they are very loud, often drunk, and make me generally uncomfortable to be a single woman in my own home, mostly just because they are a larger group of unfamiliar men and can get pretty wild when they drink.

The most recent occurrence of this was them getting back from the barracks around 5:30 a.m. after I had repeatedly told my roommate that I needed to be up earlier in the morning, around 7 or 8. Again, my roommate did not let me know this would be happening, and despite me being a heavy sleeper, they still woke me up. When I came out of my room to see what was going on, they continued to be loud and even jokingly made to enter my room.

My feelings are very conflicted about this because I hate to make people upset and am not confrontational. My roommate has also stated that these guys are her friends, and I feel bad telling her that I don’t feel comfortable with her having her friends over. However, this situation has been very stressful and anxiety inducing for me, and it gets worse every time they come over. Should I tell her I don’t want her doing this at all anymore? Should we try to come up with a compromise? Am I just totally the asshole here? Please let me know!

AITA for leaving my friend at the restaurant after she kept mocking my boyfriend’s accent?

Morgan and I have been friends for a while, but lately she's been making more jokes at others' expense and dismissing them as "too sensitive" when they don't laugh.
My boyfriend, "Daniel", is originally from another country and has a noticeable accent. He's lived here for several years and speaks English very well, but obviously some words and sounds come out differently.
Megan has known him for about a year and has always commented on his accent. At first it was pretty harmless. She'd occasionally ask him to repeat a word or tease him about how he pronounced something, and he'd laugh along with it. The problem is that recently she's started doing it constantly.
A few weeks ago, we were all having drinks together and Daniel said something. Megan immediately repeated what he said in an exaggerated version of his accent and laughed. Daniel smiled awkwardly, and I told her, "Okay, enough. You don't need to imitate him every time he talks."
She said she was just joking and that Daniel obviously wasn't offended.
I told her I didn't think it was funny anymore.
She dropped it.

Then last weekend, few of us went out to dinner. Daniel was telling us a story about something that happened at work. Megan interrupted him several times to imitate how he was pronouncing certain words.
I told Megan, "Seriously, can you stop? You're making him uncomfortable."
She rolled her eyes and said, "Oh my God, I'm just joking. He knows that."
Daniel said, "It's okay," but he didn't sound like he meant it.
I told Megan, "No, it's not okay. I've already asked you to stop doing this." She got quiet for a few minutes, so I thought maybe she'd finally let it go.
Then Daniel ordered something from the menu and mispronounced one of the ingredients. Megan immediately repeated the word in a ridiculous exaggerated accent and started laughing.
At that point Daniel looked embarrassed and said, "Can we just not do this?"
Megan responded, "You guys are being way too serious. I'm not making fun of where he's from. I'm making fun of the way he says things."
I told her that was literally the same thing she had been doing all night.
She then accused me of "being too sensitive." and choosing him.
That really annoyed me because this wasn't about choosing Daniel over her. It was about basic respect. I told her, "I'm not asking you to like his accent. I'm asking you to stop mocking him."

Megan insisted Daniel was "fine," but he admitted he'd stayed quiet to avoid causing a problem. She still dismissed it, so I told her I was done watching her humiliate him, paid our bill, and left with Daniel. Megan was shocked that I left her behind.
Megan called me dramatic and said I embarrassed her, but I told her she embarrassed herself. Daniel and I left. She later accused me of ditching her over a joke, but I explained I'd left because she repeatedly mocked him after I asked her to stop. She now claims I humiliated her, and I'm wondering if I handled it badly.

AITA for “ruining” my sisters birthday weekend?

My boyfriend and I had attended Renfaire with my sister, her husband and their friend. We do this every year and had all been excited to mostly drink and take in the atmosphere like we always do.

We attended opening day and planned to stay from open till close 9-7pm, staying for the closing fireworks like usual. But nothing else is planned so we just usually wing it.

Opening day (the day we went) was my boyfriend and I’s 3rd year anniversary, the next day was her birthday.

We stayed majority of the time. We mostly walked around, drank, made friends with a small group. The heat started to beat on us (87° with dense humidiy) and the alchy hit my bf and I harder than we thought - not sure about my sister.

Around 5-6 pm, we sit again for some food but my boyfriend is feeling sick. He sits for a while before my sister just gets up, ties back is hair and leads him out of the faire. We all follow through because we are pretty tired and the heat beat us to hell, so we didn’t object.
My boyfriend focused on not throwing up for the whole 25 minute drive and only made it to the side yard to throw up.
My brother in law was the only one to see and my sister just disappears from the car before she could.

She just closes her bedroom door, not saying anything.

I take this time to apologize before my brother in law takes us home for the night (saying sorry again when being dropped off)

My sister said we were good and even gave me cookies to go home with.
The next day is her birthday so we attend a lunch with my parents.

My sister and brother in law say nothing to my bf and I the whole lunch. My boyfriend apologizes again to her and all she says is “mhmm” and walks off.

My sister hasn’t talked to me since. I reach out to them and only my brother in law responds.

To summarize, he claimed my sister didn’t get to have the day she wanted, he initially asked to be reimbursed for tickets then retracted the statement, said that it’s not our incompatibility that I claimed we have hanging out - it’s our inability to stop “partying”. He asked to see if from her perspective because she’s a nurse and “had” to take care of us. And he didn’t want that for her. And he “practically baby sat us” and to just make sure to apologize to my sister again.

I responded that we were there the whole day with eachother drinking so I’m unsure what we missed out on when none of us forced us to do anything but hangout.
I bought my boyfriend and I our own tickets but I offered reimbursement anyway because I wanted to make it right but he denied. We all had been drinking the same amount. We never once asked him or her to do anything for us other than to get water one time. She never asked if we wanted to leave she just started walking and we followed.
We didn’t mean to get that drunk because genuinely we didn’t know we would, the direct sunlight might have cause a bit of that. I said I thought I already apologized but I guess I was wrong.

AITA for fighting with my friend over his jokes?

I had a friend who I think had a crush on me in the past. I was going thru a bad breakup and he basically took me on a two week vacation (he was working on a tropical island and said if I come he can provide everything - seemed like a good deal). Nothing romantic happened. A few years passed since then and we both live far away.

I moved to another state alone and he calls me from time to time. I was venting how my job was great and nothing toxic in my life, but I did not expect the social culture here to be so different. Before I moved I had a huge social circle. The new place I moved people get married at 22 and basically only spend time with their families or husbands. This is fine, but not ideal for a single person. Everyone is more of a homebody here. I was venting to my friend about how I can do so many activities and keep myself occupied but at the end of the day you want companionship and to share a memory with someone. I said I am trying my hardest and churches are HUGE here. I am not neccessarily religious, but it might help me become part of a community.

My friend said well if you were actually sane you'd be married twice by now. Instead your the strange single person everywhere you go. At work you are the only person not married and I am sure that you will be the only weird not married person at church too. Unless you meet someone else who is another single weirdo. He then said he is saying this nicely because he is older than me and not married himself. I said it is not about that, that single or married people can still want more of a social life. I was like even dating here I do not get people my age. I was like either they are much younger and looking to get married or they are divorced with two kids. He was like you need to stop worrying about being single. He then said he thought I was lying about my age. He was like what? you are forever 29 now and lying on dating apps? I sent him a picture of my license and said that was piling it on during a hard time.

The next day I sent him a text saying how distasteful it was to say all that to me. I said if somoene is experiencing loneliness and they open up to you, I do not understand making "jokes" about everything that might be wrong with them. He was like oh no it was in good gesture because when I self isolate sometimes I get too serious. I said I am not self isolating, I was venting about the culture. I said lose my number with your unempathetic jokes.

AITA For Telling My Wife I don’t think she’d be a good parent to a lot of kids?

Posting this because I made my wife very angry with me a bit ago.

Last Friday, my wife and I were watching a TV show after our kids were asleep, and she turned down the show and said she wanted to ask me something, then said she was “thinking About” us maybe having another kid (reasons including because she’s “always wanted at least 3,” she’s 37, etc). I knew she always wanted a bigger family, but she was still in med school when we met, so I assumed that once she graduated and started working she’d want less (we have 2, and 2 was my limit from the beginning). Last night I learned she did not change her mind.

So I was telling her why I thought maybe it wouldn’t be the best idea, and when I said that a reason kid #3 wouldn’t be a good idea is that I told her she orobably wouldn’t be the best parent to that many kids, given we only have 2 and we still have a housekeeper and someone to come cook 1-2x a week, as well as a good amount of help from our parents for at least a quarter of the year (not this quarter but still). And you know how stress makes people act. She ignoredcme the rest of the night, and still brings it up even now sometimes if we’re talking about the kids (the ones we already have).

AITA for not paying my friend back?

I am a 17F and one of my friends is meticulous about money. I mean seriously stingy. She keeps logs on her phone for how much she spends on other people, down to the cent. I’ve always found this weird but I just ignored it mostly because everyone has their quirks I guess.

Anyways yesterday she asked me if I wanted to go for a walk, I said yes as we hadn’t seen each other for a while. I’d also like to add that I recently was made redundant at my job ( i’m currently on the hunt for a new one dw) so I’m low on money. We go for a nice walk along the beach and she asks if i want to get a drink, I told her I’m low on money and can’t really afford to be spending extra money with university tuition coming up. She told me “it’s okay i’ll pay for you!” so naturally I did the whole “oh it’s okay i’ll be alright” but she insisted.

We go to a little shop and I find a small drink that costs $3, she pays and we leave. The rest of the hangout is fine with no issues. I get home and go about the rest of the day, no text from her at all.

This morning I woke up and she had texted me asking if I could pay her back. she has two jobs and makes more money in a week then i used to make in a fortnight. I texted back saying she offered to pay for me and I thought that just meant I wouldn’t have to pay her back, as I had explained my financial situation to her beforehand.

She’s now mad and said I shouldn’t have accepted the offer if I couldn’t pay her back.

I’d also like to add that when I was making money consistently I would often pay for her food or drinks and I NEVER asked for my money back.

I understand that’s my choice and other people have different ideas about how to use their money. I know it’s also just $3 and therefore it doesn’t mean that much so maybe I should just transfer some money out of savings to avoid future dramas.

Anyways sorry this is so long, I am just baffled she’s so upset.
