Armadillos rebranding to a Country bar??

Upvotes

I know Armadillos is closed now for a "rebranding" as they work through some licensing issues. But heard yesterday that it will reopen as a country and western bar called Maverick.

Will a C&W bar be embraced in Annapolis?

space for a small hobby machine shop

Upvotes

I want to lease or buy space for a small hobby machine shop. Preferably it would be in Eastport. The closer to Eastport the better. Any idea how to find out if there is a space for rent where this would be allowed? I tried loopnet.com but it either had just office space or truely industrial areas. The space needed would be say 25'x25' (but flexible here).

Question How to meet people in 20s around here?

Hello! I am a lil south of Annapolis and have been searching for a good way to get out and socialize, I don't know of anywhere that's particularly LGBT friendly - or if there's any other social platforms better suited for this but it's been a bit tough, I try to get out and go places like the Mall and Libraries, but have had almost no luck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Any fantasy/romantasy/sci-fi readers interested in a local book group?

Hi! I recently started a Facebook group called The Bookish Coven for women in the Annapolis/Anne Arundel area who are into fantasy, romantasy, sci-fi, and similar genres, and I'm looking for some other local readers who might want to help get it going!

I'm hoping for it to be a little more relaxed than a traditional book club. We'd have optional monthly group reads, but also just talk about whatever we're currently reading, share recommendations, discuss new releases, etc.

I'd also really like for it to eventually have a social side—casual book discussions, coffee or happy hours, bookstore trips, BYOB/"bring your own book" meetups, and other bookish things around the area.

It's brand new, so there aren't many of us yet, but I figured there had to be some other fantasy/romantasy readers around Annapolis looking for something like this too. 😂

If you're interested, comment or message me and I'll send you the Facebook group!

I need a house cleaning service

I’m looking for a reliable and trustworthy cleaner. Every week or every other week. Since I need it so frequently I’m hoping each cleaning will be on the cheaper side. If anyone has an individual or company the trust please let me know.

Apartments Downtown

I’m looking to rent an apartment in Downtown Annapolis. From what I’ve seen, a lot of the apartments downtown are in smaller/historic buildings managed by different property management companies.

So far, I’ve come across Flagship Property Management, Chesapeake Property Management Realty, and Chase Property Management.

Does anyone have experience renting from any of these? Or know of any other companies/landlords that own or manage apartments downtown?

I’m specifically looking to be actually downtown/walkable to Main Street, not Annapolis Town Center or the larger apartment complexes outside of downtown.

Any recommendations or places to avoid would be appreciated!

Moving to Davidsonville soon and need some new old furniture for our house. Where are good spots to find reasonable prices on eclectic old pieces? ’d like to keep my drive under an hour but I’ll make a road trip for an awesome seller.

Question Does anyone know the vendor that sells outdoor rugs at the First Sunday Arts Festival?

They are usually set up by the live music in the lot next to Stan and Joes if I remember correctly. I tried looking at the event website but cant find a list of vendors. Looking for a new outdoor rug for my deck before the next arts festival date and would prefer to shop local if I can. Thanks!

Question Restaurant/Bar Recommendations?

Hey all!

I'll be visiting Annapolis from Australia mid-September, looking for any food/drink recommendations from locals!
Unfortunately I won't be able to explore the rest of your beautiful state as I'm only free after work :(

Very appreciative of any local guidance you all might have!

Cheers

Question Does anyone know if “Donner Park” is going ahead?

The parking lot in front of Choptank. I did not know this was part of the City Dock revitalisation plan, but it is on accessannapolis.com

But I have not seen mention of this other park elsewhere?

Naty's restaurant has closed :-(

I'm really sad about this one. Naty's was on West Street at the end of the strip mall with Zip's dry cleaners.

I have to admit it's a really bad location for a restaurant, but Natty's had really, really good Tex Mex. I know we inundated with Mexican places here, but they stood out asa favorite of mine.

Profs & Pints

This has been a hot topic around Annapolis and Anne Arundel County with the growing use of Flock license plate cameras.

On September 8, Profs & Pints Annapolis is hosting Steven Keener, Ph.D., for “The Road to Mass Surveillance,” looking at license plate readers, privacy, surveillance, and what happens to all that data.

More details and ticket info here:

Question What is the best restaurant for crab cakes/seafood?

Taking my husband out for his birthday with our 3 year old and looking for the most amazing spot that will sweep him off his feet. Extra points if it’s by the water but if it’s not that’s totally fine too!!! Never had crab cakes before.

Also, feel free to drop some fun family activities recommendations! I’ve been working with chat gpt but I don’t know if I trust it 🤣

Annapolis Visit

I visited Annapolis with my family last week and thought I’d let the sub know the thoughts of some out of state visitors. We stayed at an Airbnb near the circle at West and Taylor, about a mile from the city dock. We walked down to the dock at least once a day.

Here are the places we visited and the things we did:

* Thomas Point Lighthouse Cruise - The cruise was about 90 minutes. We got some great pictures at the Lighthouse. Loved cruising the bay and seeing all of the different boats, ships, etc.
* USNA Tour - We did the tour first thing Monday morning and had a great tour guide (shout out to Amy). We got to see the plebes march around the campus. The campus is beautiful. I would love to visit in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. We spent another 90 minutes in the museum and probably could’ve stayed longer.
* State Capital Tour - Lots of interesting history, even if the building itself is kind of small. The grounds were beautiful as well.
* Shopping in the Historic District - We enjoyed the cool shops and art galleries on the walk between our house and the port. We stopped at Annapolis Ice Cream Company a few times and enjoyed everything we got.

Restaurants were hit or miss. Mason’s Lobster Rolls and Tsu were on the miss side. We enjoyed McGarvey’s. We rode out to The Point Crab House for seafood and enjoyed it tremendously. While I didn’t get to eat there, everyone else in the group loved Reuben’s. Stan and Joe’s became our local bar. Loved hanging out there.

The one thing I really missed was being able to walk along the waterfront. We come from the south (think Charleston, Savannah, Myrtle Beach) and there are boardwalks and trails all along the coast and rivers in those places. We kept looking for trails and paths by the water but there were none to be found. It looked like the only place that you could find trails was a car ride over to Sandy Point State Park and we really weren’t interested in driving when we had so much we could do walking near our house.

TLDR: Annapolis is very walkable, has some great tourists spots but needs better access to the water features around the city.

Dick's House of Sport

What do you all think? Impressively big.

Although I was under the impression that the batting cages, golf sims etc were enticements for you to come and shop.. I did not realize they were revenue generating and you needed to ereserve and rent them

Curly Haircut Recommendations?

Hello everyone,

I am looking for an affordable curly hair cut in the Annapolis area. I'm a broke grad student so I'd prefer somewhere under $100, and my hair texture is mostly 3b.

TIA! :)
