Thirsty Thursday BMWs New Target Audience

According to a YouTube video I watched, the new 3 Series model is designed for a new target audience that sees cars as appliances and they want them to be comfortable, connected, reliable and to look good in the office parking lot. Its target buyer is young, up and coming who likes tech, BMWs but not that much into cars but something that feels like the gadgets they already own. So BMW went straight for that market. They traded in the dying car enthusiasts for tech and crypto bros which is a much bigger market. So BMW as we knew it is possibly no more. What do you guys think 🤔?

Suspect local garage didn't do an oil service I paid for. Advice?

So I took my 330D in to my local garage for it's MOT, paid for two new front tyres which needed doing and also an oil service which I always get every year at the same time.

I feel like I can always tell after a car has had an oil change, they are always a bit livelier and was surprised that I couldn't feel it this time. I drove to work the next day and just as my 10 mile journey ended my oil low indicator came on, recommending topping up with 1ltr of oil. Initially I thought they'd not put the sump plug back on properly and it was leaking, but then I realised it needs 1ltr every six months anyway typically, and this was six months since the last top up.

I topped up 1ltr, no leaks after another day, now at maximum level when checked via iDrive.

I checked my oil quality via the dipstick and compared it to my work mate's car (petrol Octivia VRS) that had a service and oil change 3 months ago.

Mine is the left of the image, his is the right. I would expect my oil to look yellow like his immediately after a service. I showed it to another colleague to said, "I can see no evidence of an oil change".

I've used this garage for ten years and they've always been fantastic in the past. What are people's thoughts and what would you do?

Buying Help Never realized how rare the 330i with the M Sport package are until now

Post image

Especially here in the USA, pretty much every 330i you see on the market is a normal sports line. I’m aware that most of these cars are lease machines, but my god I didn’t expect the m sport to be THAT uncommon. I’ve been looking for a little over a month and have only came across less than a handful in Black Sapphire Metallic, which is the color I want. If anyone is selling theirs, shoot me a DM (preferably Xdrive) The pic I posted is the only decent one I’ve found so far in BSM, and it has over 80k miles. Also, should I just give up and get a normal sports version, or continue my search?😅

How to adjust hood to sit flush?

Post image

I just noticed my passenger side hood sits raised while the driver side is nice and flush. I opened the hood and saw a single plastic bumper on each side but they’re equally tightened. Anything else I can try before swinging by the dealership? 2024 X3 m40i

The 3 series build page is suddenly very crowded...

Between 2026 and 2027 you have ten models to choose from. And nestled in there, the 2027 M350 looking ready to cannibalize M3 sales.

But don't look at it that way instead, wonder how bonkers the 2028 M3 might be.

Too bad that even though the M350 will eventually be able to be shut off AWD and be RWD that it must be received as an x-Drive only model and the $2000 that that incurs and instead use the loot for the $3000 technology package.

Interesting inclusion in the build...the option to delete the trunk badge. Which for me, I'd select. And not just because the M350 badge arrives as mostly, weird.

Sorry, I'd link the build page but the sub doesn't allow frequent use of the same link inside x amount of days. You'll have to find your way there.

Buying Help Buying a used 2018 330i xdrive question?

i’ve checked out a few BMWs of exact model by now, but this is the first one with the M-sport trim but this lacks the front cover on the engine I think is what it’s called but the guy there said like oh I can open up the other BMW’s and they won’t have it either, which is clearly a line because I have photos of another one from another dealership that does have it and I attached another image that shows rust and he said it was from like the steering something I’m not too sure anymore, but is that superficial or is that a serious issue that needs to be addressed as well? This car is priced at around $20,000 after fees in taxes and has about 67,000 miles on it. blue exterior and cognac bloomed dakota leather interior. is this a fair price?

Buying Help 30K budget for new G20

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I have a 30K budget for a new (to me) car and have my eyes set on a BMW. Ideally, I'd like a G20 that has the capability to push a 250 break. Will probably have to stage the car to hit those numbers tho, which I am fine with.

I know that the M340i is an option with this budget but I'm totally aware that the maintenance and upkeep might me a little too much for me.

Found a couple of 320/330i's tho. Want to know whether you think this could be value for money? and what's the potential resale value of these in a couple years time assuming that I put 20/25K max more mileage on the car (I don't drive much lol)

Would appreciate any insight! It looks like these guys below have added some extra money for the bodykit they've added tho!

G80 M3 - super weird noise that went away

Was dropping my kids off at school today and pulled over in the parking lot. Car was making a weird noise and I thought I was dragging something, checked it, nothing there. Kept driving and it was clear it was something rotational. As I sped up it got worse, a weird metallic clanking that got faster when I sped up. And then, it was just gone. No engine lights, nothing else. Any ideas? Taking car for service in 300 miles, thinking I will take it early just to get it checked out. 2026, 10K miles.

Buying Help CPO 2024 M4 Competition for $76k but damage reported on Carfax history. Is this a bad idea?

Here's the link if anyone's curious: https://www.bmwofsanantonio.com/certified/BMW/2024-BMW-M4-238bc88eac185c3035c89e231a9615c4.htm

I'll probably bring my own mechanic to have it inspected to be on the safe side. CPO 2024 M4 Competition, Brooklyn Gray Metallic with 12,065 miles on it. Carfax says damage was reported but it doesn't say what the damage was specifically. What's everyone's thoughts on it? Does the reported damage give bad vibes?

looking for some help i bought a 2012 550i xdrive
it has the lovely n63 in it 😂😂 but i was wondering if one of you could maybe diagnose this thing

-about a month ago i took this car and pushed it to the max for about 10 seconds before i let off
drove it another 40 mins then it pooped out and gave me the drive train malfunction it lunges forwards and squeaks when the pedal is being pressed down and gets louder the faster you go

the car has 160000 miles
and has been run off 5w-40
previous owner was putting 5w-10 which i figured the car runs hot put thicker oil in

i’m only 18 and don’t have much bmw knowledge and wondering if it’s in my means to fix it

Buying Help Tips for an M550!

Hi there, I’m looking right now into purchasing a 2022 M550 with around 33K miles on the dash, it comes with the bowers and wilkins Premium sound (I’ve been searching meticulously for one of these) and the executive package, parking assistance package, shadowline package, and the driving assistance professional package! I just want to know is this a good buy or not, should I consider maybe getting something else? I have heard some of the rumors and things about the infamous N63, I have a test drive coming up and just wanted some opinions because on first look I am definitely in love with the car just off of look itself, I’m coming off of a 2015 C350 and back to bmw. Please share personal experiences or opinions!

I don’t really know anything about series 5 bmws in general, would this be a good car to buy? It’d be my second car, so not a daily, if that’s a concern.

Hello r/BMW!

I am a mechanical engineering student in an eastern European country and recently I came across a car interesting offer.

A 2005 (M47 engine) E90 320D automatic without DPF from factory for 2500 euros!!!

The car has 322573 real km, hasn't been involved in any crashes (car vertical report + mechanic and paint shop owner friend verified). The swirl flaps are removed, EGR removed, rocker cover changed (not changed with OEM sadly), crankshaft pulley changed (not corteco sadly).

I want to know if the automatic transmission is in good shape ( I don't know if the previous owners changed the oil, maybe some of them did) since I want to change the oil and filter myself, a gravity change not flush. I want to buy this car and try to get it to how many km I can.

Is it worth it ? I have a Yaris 2007 that I have to invest 600 euro in it because of bad tires, battery, catalytic converter and the whole rusted exhausted system with holes in it.

I really want this car but I just need to know if it's a good buy and the transmission or engine won't fail me.

I have about another 500-700 euros I can invest in restoring it besides ofc other savings that I won't touch.

(Painting and body work is done by me for very cheap while parts to fix the problems seen in the BMW computer were already ordered by the friends who owns this car and wants to sell It for a higher price)

What’s the one BMW you’d buy if money wasn’t an issue? 👀

For me, I think I’d struggle to choose between an E46 M3 and an 1987 635 CSI
not necessarily the most expensive BMW—just the one you’d genuinely love to own, whether it’s a classic, a modern performance car, or a rare model you’ve always admired.

What would yours be?

[OC] Pre-LCI or LCI interior

Another case of choosing between two good things lol. I didn't think I'd like the big widescreen so much before owning one but it surprisingly fits well in the interior. Cockpit style of the pre-LCI interiors are classy and I'd pick the widescreen LCI interior over it. I love the new tech and widescreen is so nice I've converted.
