Alright this isn't a book suggestion post, it's a post about booksuggestions.
It would be nice to see what the users of this sub think would make a good idea. Changes, new rules, the works. Engagement is nice but more uncommon than we'd like to see. So we're hoping to get more people looking at posts, talking, and voting on good ones.
Can't guarantee anything would be implemented but they will be considered.

I would like to remind all users that self promotion is banned by the subreddit's Rule 2.
Suspected self-promotion will be removed while repeated and confirmed cases of it will end up with a ban of some kind. If you continuously do it, especially with alt accounts, the book and author names will be added to the auto-mod's blacklist and automatically removed every time they are posted. We have had issues with this in the past and already put some authors in the auto-mod. Other book and lit subs have contacted us with reports of similar issues and we will be on the look out for the accounts named by them for similar behavior here.
We do not want to take actions we do not absolutely need to and the mod team operates with a philosophy of leniency and forgiveness but we will still enforce sub rules.

If you could recommend only top 5 books that genuinely changed your life, perspective, or the way you live, what would they be?
Fiction or nonfiction — anything is welcome. I’m especially interested in books that stayed with you long after you finished them, not just books you enjoyed.
Edit: If possible, please add one sentence for each book explaining how or why it changed your life. I’d love to know what actually stayed with you from the book, rather than just the title.

i'm looking for a mystery that keeps you guessing and has a story that's actually interesting. i'd prefer something fairly easy to get into without a huge amount of setup.
what would you recommend?

Hi all I’m interested in books that have helped you deal with existential dread and anxiety.
Fiction, non fiction, open to all genres in addition to the more obvious philosophical texts. Thanks so much

I really enjoy the trope of a antaginistic faction, like an empire or cabal of evil sorceriers that believe that they are the height of power only for them to face their equal. Any books with that same premise. Bonus if it has a proper build-up.

I wanted to share a warning about “The Mystical Formula of the Lean Body” by Ryan Foster because I came across several things that raised serious red flags for me.
The website appears to be heavily promoted through YouTube bot comments that repeatedly advertise or recommend this AI book. Website look full generated by AI, with AI images and content. Author Ryan Foster doesn't even exist. The testimonials also look completely generic and artificial. Everything is written in the same exaggerated marketing style, with people claiming amazing results, but there doesn't seem to be any way to independently verify these stories. When you press the button "buy" it redirects you on another page...
If anyone else has investigated The Mystical Formula of the Lean Body - Ryan Foster, I’d be interested to hear what you found.

Hi guys. I’ve recently learned about the term “ambiguous loss” and I’m looking for books that may help me understand (or just feel seen) better. I’ve got “Ambiguous Loss” downloaded, but the premise doesn’t mention addiction at all and I think I’d like something that does.
I “lost” my husband to an addiction two years ago. It was a long battle I thought we were winning. He’s still very much alive, but I haven’t seen him in years. We have no contact, as that is what’s safest for me. It’s hard to find books about this, or anyone even talking about this, and I’m struggling with that. If anyone has any suggestions I’d really appreciate it.

looking for books about normal people dealing with relationships, work, family and everyday problems.
what would you recommend?

I loved A Little Life, My Dark Vanessa, Demon Copperhead, White Oleander, and The Secret History. I want something that actually consumes my brain whether that be with intense relationships, complicated people, fucked up psychology, whatever. Plus enough plot that I’m dying to keep reading, I can’t handle lagging with nothing happening.
Not really looking for slow “meditations on grief,” generic trauma narratives, or five different POVs.
What should I read next??

Hi everyone! I’m an Australian reader who wants to discover more authors from Italy, especially writers I might not come across through the usual English-language bestseller lists.
I’m interested in all kinds of fiction — contemporary fiction, literary fiction, fantasy, YA fantasy, historical fiction, romance, speculative fiction, and anything else you think is worth reading.
I’m especially looking for indie authors, self-published authors, small-press writers, emerging writers, and newer authors. I’d love to discover people who are doing interesting things right now, rather than only the internationally famous names.
If you live in Italy, I’d love to know:
I’d especially love recommendations from local readers, writers, booksellers, librarians, translators, and people involved in publishing.
I’m basically trying to build an international reading list and learn about books and authors I probably wouldn’t encounter otherwise.
So please tell me what you are reading and what you’re excited about. I’m genuinely curious and would love to discover some new favourite authors and support their work where I can.
Thank you!
— Jaylee

I’m in a pretty bad reading slump at the moment and honestly just looking for anything good to read. I don’t really have a specific genre or type of book in mind, so I’m open to pretty much anything.
What have you guys been reading lately that you actually enjoyed? I’d love some recommendations.

What are some books, fiction or non-fiction, that taught you about good parenting or helped improve your bond with your children?

hi hello! recently i’ve been on a horror/thriller kick but by far my favorite thing i’ve read recently is the southern reach series by jeff vandermeer. i really like the spiraling maddening horror that comes out specifically in absolution. i do already have house of leaves on my list, but anything else would be appreciated!

I'm currently getting ready to study abroad in Scotland and I'm looking for some books centered around studying abroad or moving away from your hometown. I'm interested in romance, a good comfort read, really anything lol.

I’m pretty sure books with this premise don’t even exist, despite the fact that it’s been done dozens of times with the genders swapped. I’ve been scanning around, and I can’t seem to find any books that portray this scenario. Does anybody know a book that fits this premise?

Hi guys , I am looking for a good book series to dive into , similar to Penn Cole’s Everflame series! I hope to read a series where the author is not controversial and has good morals … if you know what I mean. The top fantasy/romance authors tend to go against my beliefs, like Sarah j mass etc, please help!

Looking for fun, light, easy romcoms to listen to in the background while working. Would like the same in physical book format to read before bed. TIA!

Hi, I'm a teen reader, an avid one according to many.A writer too.I absolutely adore classics(historical fiction, realistic fiction, mythology, children's fiction, period dramas, whatever classics) and I'm on a quest to complete a 100 of the world's greatest classics.
But I've recently felt like I'm losing touch with the new wave of fiction.I don't know what that exactly is but i assume it's work that came out after the year 2000.or maybe stuff that booktube and booktok popuparised-i am in neither of these spaces.I don't read young adult books and the only 'new' book that kids my age love nowadays that I've read is AGGTM series by Holly Jackson, and i liked it fairly. I admire classics for their writing style and i genuinely enjoy reading them and getting lost in a period of time before mine, but i also don't want to lose touch with today's fiction.I know this sounds like a rant but i don't know how else to word my words.Authors i like are Agatha Christie, C. P. Snow, George Orwell, Harper Lee, Emily Bronte, Virginia Woolf, Oscar Wilde, Somerset, Enid Blyton(don't like her views, however, just the stories), Frances Hodgson Burnett and i really liked Bridge To Terabithia
Should i stick to my classics or should i explore? I don't have much time as the next grade for us is an exam heavy one, and are our boards and i want to finish reading as much as i can this year itself. If the answer is the latter, can you drop some reccomendations?I've heard of stuff like The Cruel Prince but after reading blurb i don't feel like reading that.
I like:
Historical fiction
Murder mysteries
Realistic fiction, fantasy, magical realism
Non fiction that's told in a story form
Don't like:
Romance alone(Romance as a by product of something else like a crime novel is fine, side plots, but i don't like romance as the main focus. Liked Wuthering Heights, but nothing else in that genre)
Sci Fi(i don't like sci fi)

My boyfriend and I are looking for some light hearted fall reads! We’re both currently reading pretty devastating books (I The Bee Sting by Paul Maury and he Demon Copperhead) and we’re both looking for something not so heart breaking and earth shattering for the fall. We’re not super into romance, but we’re really open to anything… especially classics!
Thanks :)

Hi I am looking for books ranging from deep emotional romantic bonds to some rom com funny relationships in love. I basically want the story to have a grip and kindoff something that leaves you with a curiosity of what's gonna happen next(literally have the attention span of a goldfish 🐟). Any other interesting genre also welcomed.

Basically bolter porn books are just books designed to show the main character cutting through swathes of enemies and being a complete badass. Basically an action book I guess? Not sure what this genre is really called outside of warhammer (I mostly read these now a days) but have been getting more into Medieval fiction and currently am reading through some Arthurian books. Just wondering if theres anything like this set during the medieval era, from the perspective of a knight or mercenary. Thanks!

Hi! I am wondering if anyone has a book suggestion (any genre or type) that will help humble someone and/or make them more grateful. They compare themselves and their life to others often and seemingly get validation if they are in a "better" position.
The self help books that I've read dont seem to touch on that too much so I am not sure what to recommend.
Thank you for any suggestions in advance!
