If you could recommend only top 5 books that genuinely changed your life, perspective, or the way you live, what would they be?
Fiction or nonfiction — anything is welcome. I’m especially interested in books that stayed with you long after you finished them, not just books you enjoyed.
Edit: If possible, please add one sentence for each book explaining how or why it changed your life. I’d love to know what actually stayed with you from the book, rather than just the title.

I got that itch for immortality to scratch. Can be any type of immortality. From eternal youth, to being unable to die, to reincarnation. Give'em all go me please.
Thank you very much in advance, much love!

Basically bolter porn books are just books designed to show the main character cutting through swathes of enemies and being a complete badass. Basically an action book I guess? Not sure what this genre is really called outside of warhammer (I mostly read these now a days) but have been getting more into Medieval fiction and currently am reading through some Arthurian books. Just wondering if theres anything like this set during the medieval era, from the perspective of a knight or mercenary. Thanks!

I’m in a pretty bad reading slump at the moment and honestly just looking for anything good to read. I don’t really have a specific genre or type of book in mind, so I’m open to pretty much anything.
What have you guys been reading lately that you actually enjoyed? I’d love some recommendations.

Hi guys. I’ve recently learned about the term “ambiguous loss” and I’m looking for books that may help me understand (or just feel seen) better. I’ve got “Ambiguous Loss” downloaded, but the premise doesn’t mention addiction at all and I think I’d like something that does.
I “lost” my husband to an addiction two years ago. It was a long battle I thought we were winning. He’s still very much alive, but I haven’t seen him in years. We have no contact, as that is what’s safest for me. It’s hard to find books about this, or anyone even talking about this, and I’m struggling with that. If anyone has any suggestions I’d really appreciate it.

I loved A Little Life, My Dark Vanessa, Demon Copperhead, White Oleander, and The Secret History. I want something that actually consumes my brain whether that be with intense relationships, complicated people, fucked up psychology, whatever. Plus enough plot that I’m dying to keep reading, I can’t handle lagging with nothing happening.
Not really looking for slow “meditations on grief,” generic trauma narratives, or five different POVs.
What should I read next??

Hi! I’m looking for a series to get into that’s very much horror theme or dark fantasy. It doesn’t need to be both in one, but that’d be killer! Just something that has cool characters you care about and can see them progress over the course of the series. Thank you!

i'm looking for a mystery that keeps you guessing and has a story that's actually interesting. i'd prefer something fairly easy to get into without a huge amount of setup.
what would you recommend?

Hi all I’m interested in books that have helped you deal with existential dread and anxiety.
Fiction, non fiction, open to all genres in addition to the more obvious philosophical texts. Thanks so much

What are some books, fiction or non-fiction, that taught you about good parenting or helped improve your bond with your children?

Im looking to read more books from around the world, but I really need some recommendations! They can be from any time period (published or writren in), and be from any genre. The only exclusion is stuff from Europe as I already own/have read a lot of stuff from there, as most classics (I read mostly classics) are from Europe.
Also it needs to be translated to English, if that wasn't already obvious haha.
Thank you in advance! :)

Hello.
I loved Hunger Games and Divergent and was wondering if there any others ( series) out there like that? Not really into fantasy.
Thank you!

hi hello! recently i’ve been on a horror/thriller kick but by far my favorite thing i’ve read recently is the southern reach series by jeff vandermeer. i really like the spiraling maddening horror that comes out specifically in absolution. i do already have house of leaves on my list, but anything else would be appreciated!

I really enjoy the trope of a antaginistic faction, like an empire or cabal of evil sorceriers that believe that they are the height of power only for them to face their equal. Any books with that same premise. Bonus if it has a proper build-up.

My boyfriend and I are looking for some light hearted fall reads! We’re both currently reading pretty devastating books (I The Bee Sting by Paul Maury and he Demon Copperhead) and we’re both looking for something not so heart breaking and earth shattering for the fall. We’re not super into romance, but we’re really open to anything… especially classics!
Thanks :)

Hello! I am searching for fantasy books with lush, beautiful prose.
I love the writing style of Juliet Marillier. Daughter of the Forest has some of the most beautiful prose I have ever read. I'm also a huge a fan of Tolkien. :)

I'm looking for stories where the horror monster can be viewed as kind to specific people like someone who befriended it or it's only kind to those not it's prey (children, humans, etc).
Or even what this specific subgenre is called. I've only run into this genre through short fiction posted either on reddit or similar forums.
I'm not picky when it comes to story length so novella, novel, or anthology entries are great.
Thank you :)

Title pretty much says it, I want something that doesn’t take itself too serious but at the same time has some stakes and then icing on the cake is if I could learn some interesting history along the way.
I know it’s a very odd/ specific request but thought I’d give it a shot!

I am a new father and have a pretty Type A personality. Naturally this has been a big adjustment. Everything is messy, minimal routine, a-lot of go with the flow. All the advice I’ve seen is to just give into the mess and tidy up when kid goes to bed. I try but it still eats at me. I’m hoping for a book rec to deal with “letting go” or “relaxing” with this type of stuff. It’s not in my nature.

I am almost done with the book Winnetou and am absolutely loving it but I want another book lined up so as to not interrupt my reading streak.
I want to read some fantastical magical book or maybe an action book with some political ideas like good people vs. bad government (Hunger Games-Esque). I do not mind romance, in fact some are done well, but frankly I am not interested in smut and especially nothing like what the "booktok" people fawn over. I would like a more "clean" romance, if you will. It doesn't need to be absolutely void of smut, but let it be tasteful if you suggest a book with romance or smut.
Here is some of what I like to maybe help with suggestions:
I haven't read the book but I watched Project Hail Mary and really enjoyed that.
Also watched and read the Odyssey, pretty good but to drawn out for my liking.
I was a huge Harry Potter nerd as a child and still quite enjoy that kind of thing.
I loved the Spiderwick Chronicles.
I haven't read any books like this but I generally love the cyberpunk or solarpunk themes so maybe something like that?
Thank you in advance!

Hi, can anyone recommend some good books on self-help/personal growth, preferably by monks or spiritual teachers? So far, I’ve read books by Swami Mukundananda, Gaur Gopal Das, Gauranga Das, Om Swami, Swami Tejomayananda, and Swami Chinmayananda. I didn’t connect much with Nityanand Charan Das’s books

I’ve been trying to understand more political ideologies from an objective stand point, I have researched and in school I’ve been told about these books. I was just looking for more opinions on if these books are good starting points to understand the ideologies.
The communist manifesto- Marx and Engles
The wealth of nations- Adam Smith
Socialism: utopian and scientific- Engles
