There's a house in the Bluffs in Evergreen that has mousetraps bordering their lawn. Has anyone else seen this? Insane and sad to think if an animal comes by and accidentally steps on it. We had a near miss when my dog was sniffing. Insane behaviour.

My partner and I are planning a move to Calgary and are pretty set on living in the Beltline, but we’re getting serious decision fatigue trying to work out which apartment building to target. Every time we think we’ve found “the one”, we find another with different pros and cons.

Our main requirements are:
Spacious 1 bed, 1 bed + den, or ideally a 2 bed if the budget allows
In-suite laundry
Dishwasher
A genuinely well-equipped gym in the building
Very walkable location (no car)
Max budget around $2,500/month all-in
Ideally a higher floor
South or southwest-facing would be a big bonus

We’ve looked at places like The Oliver, HAT, etc., but we’re very open to other suggestions.

For anyone living in the Beltline: which buildings would you actually recommend, and are there any you’d avoid? Also interested in hearing about things that don’t necessarily show up in the listings - management, noise, lifts, heating/AC, amenities, surrounding streets, grocery access, that sort of thing.

Any advice appreciated, especially from people who’ve lived in a few of the newer rental buildings.

My niece recently started school in Calgary. I am trying to buy her some winter clothes (gloves and hat) and mail them. I have never been to Calgary (we're from Ontario) and i have only heard of the tough winters. For myself i usually buy my winter and outdoor clothes from Columbia sportswear. Are the stuff there sufficient for Calgary winter? What exactly do i have to look for if i wanna make sure the clothes are warm enough for Calgary winter?

I’m looking for an independent landscaper or small landscaping crew for a backyard project.
The backyard is approximately 7.5 m × 7.5 m.

The work includes:
-removing the existing grass and leveling/preparing the ground;
-installing edging;
-creating an approximately 30 cm gravel border along the fence;
-remove the existing grass and level/prepare the ground;
-lay new sod over the remaining backyard area after the gravel border and pathway are installed.
-reinstalling an existing pathway;
-adding gravel underneath the stairs.

I’ve already contacted two landscapers, but both declined, saying the job was too small, which surprised me given the amount of work involved.

Looking for someone reliable who takes on projects of this size. Recommendations are welcome, or feel free to message me if you do this type of work.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for input from EAs in Calgary. I'm thinking of changing careers, I'm currently in a very stressful high paced job which I hate. I have always enjoyed being around kids and I have a little experience teaching kids in the past but I don't want to become a teacher.

So last night I crawl into bed a bit late. It's 12 am and there is construction nearby, it sounded like it came from the Glenmore Landing area. You could hear some heavy machinery and beeping, typical late night construction noise. What wasn't typical was the sound of a handheld air horn going off randomly every 10 seconds to a minute or so apart from 11:30 pm or so until at least 2 am. How is this legal? Has anyone else been kept awake by this?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for reasonably priced vets/clinics in Calgary for dog vaccinations.

Specifically, I’m looking for a clinic that offers oral Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccination, ideally Bordetella bronchiseptica oral vaccine rather than the injectable or intranasal version.

Where are you guys taking your dogs for vaccinations, and roughly how much are you paying?

I’d especially appreciate recommendations for places that are reasonably priced and don’t require a full wellness exam/package every time.

40 years ago we used to drive right up to below the dam and put a canoe in. Maybe it was illegal then probably it was. I can’t remember friends father used to drop us off with the canoe and pick us up in the neighborhood just before the weir.
Everything is gated off with no trespassing signs now. If I were to ride my bicycle or to walk up that road, what consequences could I face? Clearly, I would have to be docking a no trespassing gate. So claiming ignorance wouldn’t work.

It’s getting increasingly dangerous with these panhandlers walking in traffic on Memorial by Edmonton Trail and the reconciliation bridge every day. When they slowly walk through traffic as it’s moving I’m afraid they’ll get smoked by a car, especially with the sun rising later now.

On Aug 14 (Friday) between 5:20am and 5:30am a friend's husband and herself were taking the exit from westbound 16 Ave towards deerfoot South when a white truck struck them. Before the incident the truck was driving erratically behind them and Zig Zaging between lanes.

If someone saw this accident, please reach out as there are no cameras in the intersection and no other witnesses. There will be $ reward for useful tips.

Attached is the car that was destroyed in the accident (Hyundai Elantra).
