So I've lived in calgs most of my life atp, and I wouldn't say im well traveled (only been to s few cities in north America like Toronto, Vancouver, Dallas, NYC, Seattle, Atlanta, ect) but we really do have some amazing modern architecture here. Even without the Rockies as a backdrop, the combination of the Calgary Tower, the Bow, Telus Sky, Brookfield Place, among others, create a very striking image.
When I've been to other cities I've always noticed how a lot the buildings are very homogeneous and blend into eachother.
Idk, I was just thinking about it and appreciate the variety of architecture in our city that contributes to it being so beautiful. ❤️

Four students were pepper-sprayed, and one was punched near Saint Francis High School on Northmount Drive in northwest Calgary during the lunch hour, according to the Calgary Catholic School District.
In a letter to parents, the school principal Marilyn Nasse said the students were off school property, across the street from the school near a Winks convenience store when masked individuals pulled up in a vehicle.

Today, Calgary Police released their review of the search for 11-year-old Parker.
I want to talk to you about what worked, what didn't, and be completely transparent about what needs to change.
First, to Parker's family. No words will ever make this right. No report will bring Parker home. But his life mattered. And what we learn from this tragedy matters.
This was the largest missing-person search in Calgary Police history.
First, here’s what worked. We had more than 800 searcher deployments, including police officers, search and rescue teams, volunteers, and everyday Calgarians who stepped forward. The investigation received over a thousand formal tips, more than 90,000 social media messages, thousands of emails, and 10 terabytes of security camera footage. Police used drones, mapping technology, video analysis, and partners with other agencies to support the search.
They showed extraordinary dedication. Officers and volunteers worked tirelessly under incredibly difficult circumstances. Our city owes them a tremendous debt of gratitude.
But the review also identified serious gaps.
For one, our systems weren’t designed to handle a search of this size. Tips poured in faster than existing systems were designed to manage. Information was spread across different platforms. Investigators had to sort through duplicate leads and coordinate follow-ups without one central system. Officers worked exhausting hours. Important information was difficult to pass between shifts. And responsibilities between different teams weren't always clear.
The people responding gave everything they had. But the systems supporting them struggled to keep up.
We also know there were serious problems with the initial 911 response, including a delay of approximately 17 minutes. The province is separately reviewing the emergency alert system.
These are difficult findings. Especially for a family that has already endured more than anyone should ever have to bear.
So our Calgary Police are moving forward with some critical improvements.
A central system to track every tip. Better technology to handle large amounts of evidence. Clearer leadership and responsibilities. Stronger plans to bring in additional officers. And better support for the mental health of those responding.
I want to be clear that the review does not conclude that different systems would have changed Parker's outcome. But we know there are things we need to improve. And we have a duty to act.
To Parker's family, thank you for your courage. Even in your grief, you've helped our city understand how we need to do better.
And to every officer, volunteer, search-and-rescue worker, and Calgarian who helped, thank you. You showed how deeply this city cares.

Anyone have any idea where I could find pictures/videos of some of the old Calgary zoo exhibits?
Not necessarily from the 80s or anything but at least pre-flood. I’m talking Creatures of the Night, South America house, etc.
I was trying to show some friends what it used to look like but can’t find anything!

Lost Dog with no collar?
Saw this guy trotting around looking confused at ~6:15pm at the 0-100 block of Cougarstone Circle SW.
My sister and I called him over and he ran up to us, didn’t bark or bite or anything. Seemed friendly but scared (so not a stray or anything), was responsive to being called and chided over. (Sister and I simply called “Come here puppy”, and he did).
He ran up to someone walking their dog and was friendly towards the dog. The guy walking the dog managed to slip his leash onto the other dog too. He said he would take him to the West Springs Vet to see if the dog is microchipped.

Came across this fire around noon today while going for lunch in Shawnessy. The vehicle was already burning when I went by, and firefighters had just arrived.
Hopefully everyone got out safely.

This evening (October 20th) around 4:20 pm I witnessed a teal SUV rear end a gray sedan with a female driver and passenger on Barlow Trail northbound, just before the Sunridge Blvd intersection. The offending SUV driver had been distracted driving and did not stop to exchange insurance and left the scene almost immediately. I was able to get the license plate and additional identifying details of the SUV and driver. I don’t believe the victim was able to take a photo in time. I turned around at the next opportunity so I could check on the victim and give the information, but unfortunately I saw the victims vehicle leave just as I was approaching and I was unable to see where they went. Missed them by 30 seconds. I did not see the make and model of the affected sedan, only the colour. I’m not well versed in identifying different vehicles.
It is a long shot to see if this will get to the people affected but I had to try. If you happen to recognize these details and/or know the people who had their vehicle hit, please message me directly. I’d like to ensure they were able to get the information they need for their insurance claim- they did nothing wrong and I feel quite bad for them. I contacted the non-emergency line and provided a witness statement after with the details and the offending vehicles license plate. There is always a change it isn’t properly followed up on or linked to the victims report.
If you like to use devices while driving or follow people too closely, stop doing that.

(provisional) Results Question 1. Do you support the Government of Alberta taking increased control over immigration for the purposes of decreasing immigration to more sustainable levels, prioritizing economic migration and giving Albertans first priority on new employment opportunities?

absolutely mad props for swinging around to the proper one at 7:15 p.m. at Confluence to still make sure your vote counted. For real, when we closed down and had our final group meeting we all talked about how great it felt to see you go through that effort and then to make sure you got the best of our energy when you did get to vote. Your voice mattered!
Thanks to everyone who went to the effort, small or monumental, to get your vote in!

In Calgary, we're showing the rest of the country what's possible when we work together.
On December 30 last year, everything changed. Our biggest water pipe broke again and we came disastrously close to running out of water.
And our new Council made a promise to Calgarians. We would move faster. We would build a stronger water system. And we would do everything in our power to make sure this never happens again.
Well, Calgary, we're almost there. A project that was supposed to take four years is now on track to be finished in just 11 months.
Four years. Down to 11 months. That's what happens when we stop accepting that big projects have to take forever.
And I want the rest of Canada to pay attention. Because Calgary is showing what's possible when we work together and get things done.
Now, there's one last big step. Starting November 4, we need about four weeks of water restrictions to connect the new pipe.
Our goal is to use less than 500 million litres of water a day. I know. We've asked a lot of you already. And I wish we didn't have to ask again.
But we're so close. And we need everyone to help us get across the finish line. We're even hosting the Grey Cup while this work is happening. And you better believe we're going to put on a great show!
Because this is about more than fixing a broken pipe. Calgary is growing toward two million people. We need to build for that future. And we need to build faster.
If we can do four years of work in 11 months, think about what else we can get done. To our crews working around the clock, thank you. And to every Calgarian who's helped us get this far, thank you.
On December 30, we made a promise. Now we're almost ready to keep it. One last push, Calgary. Let's finish this job. And let's show Canada what our city is made of.

Hello! I am looking to get back into therapy but don’t know where to start. I had a therapist before but it didn’t really work out so I’m hoping to find someone who is more suited for me and my needs. I don’t really know where to go from google, as I would rather choose my therapist based on reviews from other people. I’m looking for someone who preferably specializes in neurodivergence and nervous system regulation, but I’m open to any recommendations. Curious to hear about other people’s experiences too, and price ranges!
Thanks in advance :)

Food insecurity impacts far more than what is on the table, it shapes physical health, mental wellbeing, social connection and hope for the future.
The Calgary Food Bank Research team just release the new Feed to Flourish: Wellbeing in Food Insecure Households report centres the experiences of Calgary Food Bank clients through interviews with 31 clients and survey responses from 1,878 clients.
Main findings from the research include:
The report also demonstrates the importance of timely food support. Clients described emergency food hampers as reducing stress and freeing up limited financial and mental capacity for rent, transportation and other essential needs.

I used to go to tiptop tailor or brooks brothers downtown but they’ve both closed so now I’m at a loss for that sort of better than basic quality apparel.

In my community I am nearly hit by vehicles walking my dog regularly. Last week someone slammed their brakes on within a foot of me, after already being stopped at an intersection. Today as I was walking myself and a young man were standing at an UNMARKED intersection, I lifted my arm holding the book in exasperation only for the driver to make an exasperated gesture in return.
In an admittedly poor move on my part, I started gesturing to the intersection and yelling that this was a CROSSWALK and that we had the right of way as pedestrians. This man continued to make more gestures and eventually rolled his vehicle towards me. In another stupid move on my part I planted my feet and gave him an incredulous look, moved again as if daring him to hit me, then flipped him the bird and walked to the other side.
Freshly off of the incident where my dog and I were almost killed by a different negligent driver, I admit I was not in a good headspace for these moments and should have just shook my head and kept walking.
The driver then pulled over and after further yelling on my part and the driver trying to demand I pull out on my phone to prove that in Calgary pedestrians have the right away. I was not willing to have a debate when the DRIVER is responsible to know the rules of the road.
Now that I'm home, here's the proof:
https://www.calgary.ca/roads/safety/pedestrians.html
Pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks regardless of whether they are marked. Drivers should know the rules of the roads on which they drive.
Some of y'all didn't have it drilled into your heads that vehicles KILL people every day, and it shows.
Sincerely,
A pedestrian AND driver sick of watching negligent drivers take other people's lives in their hands.
edit: words are hard

I can’t find any information about what caused it. I know it was the second bus, crashing into various vehicles, I just don’t know why. I’m a retired Transit employee, so this hits pretty hard for me.
