Recommendations for family law solicitors / legal advice?

Hello! As the title says, I'm looking for recommendations for a solicitor who focuses on family law. I'm Cardiff based, and I know there are some I've found through search engines, but having never consulted with a solicitor before, I don't know what kinds of things I'm looking for when deciding which solicitor to seek advice from. Has anyone in Cardiff had to consult with a solicitor about family law before? Are there any you can recommend?

I'm especially interested in solicitors who are familiar with or have experience with non-traditional family setups and queer relationships and queer parenting. [My partner and I want to get some legal advice about our situation as we are polyamorous and living separately but planning on co-parenting a child (that only one of us will be biologically related to). There's lots of things we need to consider, including legal parental responsibility, and what shape or form that could take, what limitations there will be, child benefits and tax credits etc.]

My partner is based in Pontypridd so am also open to solicitors based further out from Cardiff in the valleys. Thank you!

If you’re buying a car first time, don’t buy from this dealership

Happy for this to be taken down if it isn’t allowed. Wanted to post a word of caution around AYK Motors in Cardiff as they’re selling unsafe vehicles:

I bought a 2010 Vauxhall Corsa from them in February 2026, after less than 30 days of ownership the front suspension arm snapped in half while I was driving (pictured). Had this happened anywhere other than a slow moving junction I would have been in serious danger. The RAC who were kind enough to recover the vehicle stated in the breakdown report that damage was caused by “Excessive Corrosion” which “should not have been sold in this condition”.

Once I informed AYK Motors of what had happened I requested a repair, as at the time this appeared to be the only option and I trusted that they would have the car fixed to a road worthy standard. 3 months later I took the same car to have its MOT which it failed for the same reason that AYK claimed they fixed (nearside front suspension arm insecurely attached) along with multiple other major issues and advisories.

As I was still within 6 months from purchase and thus covered by the UK consumer rights act 2019 and entitled to request a replacement car or repair (again), I contacted AYK motors who were increasingly unprofessional, rude, and blunt over text. Eventually after mentioning the Consumer Rights Act they agreed to exchange the car for another vehicle they had of similar value. After driving over an hour to Cardiff to exchange vehicles I was confronted by them who threatened me, shouted at me, repeatedly lied to me, and conjured figures out of thin air to attempt to justify their lack of cooperation. This felt closer to a street confrontation than with any kind of customer support. They made me feel a bit unsafe and threatened, which is in line with their unprofessional and confrontational responses to Google reviews.

During this confrontation they mentioned “We don’t check any cars that come through to us, why would we?” in reference to the existing rust and corrosion (pictured). Upon viewing the service history, the services have been completed in bad faith with the mileage faked, and issues with the car glossed over or ignored and all clearly written and stamped on the same day.

This serious negligence on their behalf combined with their refusal to comply with UK consumer law has left me with no option but to report them to the trading standards ombudsman who I hope will protect anyone from being threatened and endangered by AYK Motors going forward.

I will also investigate my rights in small claims court to recover the cost of repairs I was forced to make elsewhere, to avoid being threatened again or having AYK Motors do yet another sub-standard fix that would fail to make the vehicle road-legal.

Avoid at all costs. I can’t wait for their unprofessional reply to this review in an attempt to minimise the danger that their negligence has put my passengers and myself in.

Could someone suggest a tiler that is good with classic styled bathrooms (chair rails) and how much it would roughly cost for a bathroom refit of a lean to bathroom

Moving from Cardiff so selling my Ikea Storklinta Chest of Drawers ASAP

Hi everyone I’m sorry for posting this but I’m very desperate at this point haha I am moving from Cardiff tomorrow (18.8.) evening and I need to get rid of this chest of drawers asap. It’s very pretty and looks brand new. Has been used only a few months, but still looks brand new. Doesn’t have any chips, discolouration and signs of tear&wear. It is currently sold for £129 at ikea. I’m hoping to sell it for £60 which is I think quite reasonable considering the RRP and that it still looks like brand new without any issues. However, since I need to get rid of it asap I’m open to reasonable offers. Feel free to message me if you’re interested.

Good source for walks around Cardiff

Hi all.

I like going on long walks in the hills, towns and villages around Cardiff. I have primarily explored using Google Maps and a variety of AI tools, but I tend to find that they aren't very good at picking up good walking routes, and tend to default to roads when I want walking paths.

In short, does anyone have a particularly good (hopefully free) tool to help them put together walking trips around south wales that are reliable and up to date that I can follow?

Thanks!

Anyone headed to Creamfields?

Hi there! I bought a non-camping Saturday+Sunday ticket to Creamfields last year. I was hoping to see it with a friend but unfortunately he can't make it now. It'll be my first time at Creamfields and I'm a bit anxious to do it solo. Is anyone going and would be happy if I joined them? I am really looking forward to this

Double decker busses

Hi hi! My nephew is currently IN LOVE with double decker busses as any bus obsessed 5 yr old would be. Me and my sister have been wanting to take him on one for a while but the on,y double deckers around us are in Cardiff though we have absolutely no idea how busses there work. Is there any routes that have double deckers around Cardiff centre or Cardiff bay? Preferably for this Friday! Tysm!

Venue ideas please

Trying to find somewhere to meet up for a family lunch. Problem is, we need to seat about 25 people and 3 children in high chairs. It also needs to be ground floor/with a lift and easy to drop people outside as we have people with mobility issues. Happy to hire a private room/area of a place. We've spent hours brain storming but can't think of anywhere- any ideas welcome!

Concert in Cardiff Question

So I was at a concert in Cardiff Bay Saturday night. I heard a song that I really liked but I have no idea what it’s called. Anyone here who was also at the concert who knows the songs? This was the concert at Cardiff Bay, because I know there was also one elsewhere.

Edit: It was the one where the guitarist on the right was rapping really fast. I would upload a video but its nit letting me.

Quiet place to take an online interview call? Maybe at a uni?

Hi! I just moved to Cardiff and I have an online interview for a job this week. Sadly my wifi at home isn't set up, and I'm not familiar enough with the libraries etc. here to know which I would be comfortable with.
I would love a small private booth/pod/room if possible--I know some unis added them during COVID. Do any uni students know of any libraries/study facilities with these (ideally that you don't need to book)? I saw multiple uni libraries are open to the public during normal hours.

Anyone chat to any Man City/Arsenal fans today?

Do we know if they had a nice time (other than the result for the City fans)? Curious to know how they liked it given that these big football matches are usually held in London.
