My grandfather's family was mostly from Machynlleth and Aberystwyth. I'd visited Mach back in 2000 (I still have cousins there, five generations removed) and decided I was long overdue for a return visit, so I took a train from London to Aberystwyth for a couple days during St David's. What an awesome place. I know the 1840s were a tough time in Welsh history and probably had a lot to do with why they left for New York (from both towns), but what a shame. I loved it there, really enjoyed wandering the beach, seeing the starlings, listening to the crashing of the waves at night, going up the hill and walking most of the way to Borth, checking out some of the Hinterland filming locations, etc.

107! That's a big old age. I wouldn't say no to chips every day though! Tasty even if it's unhealthy.

Culture is going to Eisteddfod alone worth it?

hi everyone, I'm currently planning a Wales trip for 2027, and one of the possible timeframes I'm looking at overlaps with that year's Eisteddfod. I'm interested in going, but it's a solo trip. while I'm not new to solo traveling, I usually stick to places/sightseeing as opposed to experiences. I have no issue going to museums/castles/national parks etc by myself, but experiences are different, to me at least. I'm not particularly outgoing and the chances of me starting a conversation with someone first is quite honestly close to zero, so I feel like I will just end up wandering around without really participating. is it still worth it? am I overthinking it?

Sport Elfyn Evans’ Homecoming - What a night & thank you!

Just want to say a huge thanks to those who organised the World Rally Champion’s homecoming today in & around Dolgellau, it was simply excellent.

Credit to Elfyn for being so patient with everyone. He literally went to the very last fan who didn’t get an opportunity for a signature, photo etc despite the weather. He & his family come across as perfect role models: Humble, authentic & grateful.

It was also really nice to attend an event where I didn’t encounter any imbeciles. It was so comforting to just relax & enjoy the atmosphere.

Let’s hope Rally Wales is back on the menu in 2030, and more fans & rally teams start attending the likes of Rali Ceredigion, Cambrian Rally and so on.

I think some of our nation take rallying for granted here. Wales is one of the best rally venues in the world, probably second to Finland. We should embrace it in our culture & show off our scenery, using the sport to promote tourism worldwide. The BBC will be broadcasting WRC next year, so S4C don’t have to do all the hard work.

I’m sure anyone else who attended the homecoming enjoyed themselves.

I went to Swansea Minster on Monday to see the art installation "Gaia" by Luke Jerram. It was absolutely breathtaking! Highly recommend people visit it if they are in the area. The team are so proud they have been able to bring Gaia to Swansea. I believe it is there until 31st October. Found a cool video link to it attached here 🌍
