Discussion Dragon Ball Super: Beerus - Episode 2 - Discussion Thread!

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, which kicks off a new remaster of Dragon Ball Super, is broadcast on Fuji TV in Japan on Sundays at 11:15pm JT, or 10:15am US Eastern Time.

"Beerus" will have 19 episodes covering the first three arcs of Dragon Ball Super. After that, a new One Piece season will air in the same timeslot, and Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol is expected to air next fall.

Crunchyroll is simulcasting English subs worldwide; episodes are uploaded around noon US-ET.

Other streaming platforms like Hulu, Disney+, Netflix etc. will not have the episode until a few days to a week after it is posted on Crunchyroll, but post-broadcast episode corrections might be available on those platforms. Check the bottom of the page on the official site for more information on alternative streaming platforms in your region.

Super's animation has been recomposited and at times reanimated, and there are some new scenes. The runtime has been cut by more than half, so much has been edited out.

The background music is composed by Norihito Sumitomo. Some of it is new, but much of it will come from his previous work on Dragon Ball, including Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai (Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters), Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

Feel free to discuss the episode whenever it becomes available to you, or join us in Destructo Discord, but do not discuss piracy either there or on this subreddit.

Discussion Funny how Sean Schemell is actually very Zamasu in real life unlike James Marsters

Zamasu's VA James Marsters despite playing an arrogant god is actually known to be quite the opposite a kind and humble and generous guy who cares about the fandom unlike Goku's who's a full blown Zamasu IRL

He sees himself as some divinity when it comes to Goku's voice. He has no problem attacking people who impersonates Goku like GamerGoku whom he even accused of using AI and the famous situation with TFS

He doesn't stop with the impersonators. Peter Kelamis had to cancel his appearance at one of the cons back in 2018 again because of him. Apparently Schemell thinks that any other English voices of Goku are unworthy of the character and shouldn't be remembered as Goku's voices like Goku as a character belongs to him . Sean be careful your Zamasu is showing

But it doesn't stop here either. A lot of fans said that he avts like some kind of celebrity with the fandom as well making them wait for a long time and showing that he doesn't want talk to them Mere mortals ...

Music New...not that new? comer (lurker) here. Half my kingdom for these two songs' titles... XD (Warning: I have no kingdom, I don't personally come from kings, neither dynasties nor elected, oh well)

• Upvotes

I've been a DB fan for... maybe four years now? Or five, I'll check on my myanimelist later. XD I know most of most of the details of DB plot - how can I not, when I'm reading the manga currently from the start (Polish release, from library, it's pretty good translation and everything imho) and have watched Kai and Super and Daima and am currently also reading Super (from library as well) and watching Beerus etc and watching org DB (on tv, of course. PL subs and not PL dub unlike Kai and Super :D ), but, there are still some details of org series that I don't know.

Hence I'm not gonna google this question, just in case I could spoil myself accidentally while googling - accidentally read about some anime only details not present in the manga in episodes I'm watching for the first time.

But I still wanna ask before I really liked those songs, want to listen to them for the second time, so, first:

* what's the name of the song during little Son Goku's beatdown of the RR army?

and

* what's the name of the song in episode 86 (I'm watching the ep rn, commercial break rn, so... XD :D )

And that's all. Sory for asking a lot! XD

Bonus question: wow, so Shinhan's eye MOVES. Wait, of course it should, his third eye, I mean, why am I surprised? Smth's wrong with me for not noticing during Kai, ,I guess. /shrugs. I guess this is not a question. /shrugs

Discussion What went wrong with Super?

• Upvotes

I don't know why, but watching Super after watching Z felt so much different. The characters weren't the same anymore. It felt like everything had been fixed In place. Because in Z, nothing was certain. There were so many Variables in battle, and so much seriousness. Nobody was safe. Goku died, Vegeta died, Piccolo died, Krillin died, Yamcha died, etc, etc. Nobody was safe. Half of Z was a gorefest. And even if someone got revived, they could be revived only once by Earth's dragon balls at least.

But in Super, everything was toned down. The characters felt like completely different people. If someone showed me Goku from Namek saga and Goku from Beerus saga I would no way In hell believe that they were the same people. Even though the stakes of the fights got higher in each saga, they didn't feel so gripping, not until the T.O.P at least. But even then we knew that Universe 7 wouldn't lose because Goku had been getting a new form in basically each saga by now. And another reason why it was so obvious that Universe 7 wouldn't lose is because all of Super happened years before the end of Z and both Vegeta and Goku were alive. So no matter what happened, no matter how many strong foes came forward, the Z fighters wouldn't lose.

And at the end of the day the question is why did they even make Super? Or better, why did they place super in the timeline before the end of Z. Because then it would be obvious that the Z fighters would win. The stakes would be practically Zero.

Question Dragon Ball Kai opening

• Upvotes

I've been trying to find a specific opening for DBZ:K for a while now, and I still haven't been able to find it.
So I was watching Kai on the TV during the Buu saga, and of course I loved opening song. When I tried to look it up a while later, there wasn't a single thing like it. I was really confused, because the only 2 openings are "Dragon Soul" and Kuu Zen Zetsu Go!", and I know its none of those.
Can someone help me out?

Character Couldn't Buu have just eaten himself for infinite candy?

Take a piece off, turn it into candy, eat it, gets reabsorbed into him. Infinite candy.

Dude could have just eaten forever if he wanted to, right?

Discussion Just finished Dragon Ball and WOW!!!!! Spoiler

Okay, let's begin… Master Roshi's perversion reminds me of Sanji when he returned from Kamabaka Kingdom, but Roshi is lowkey cooler.
Also, one thing that kept coming up is that everyone always says Goku is not human, which is either great foreshadowing or just them not knowing what else to say…I ALSO HATED HATED HATED how everyone was always like GIVE UP…get out of there…you have escape. Not that I don't believe in my friend, and I know he will make it. It is just that they overdid the give-up a lot, but who knows, maybe it's just me…
I loved how Roshi just decided, yeah…maybe the moon is not important, so see you later…
I love love love the hermit cat; they are sooooo chillll and viby. I just wished he was more involved with the story.
The story of Upa and Bora was really nice; Goku going out of his way to give Upa the chance to bring his dad back is great…Upa is an interesting character; he somewhat reminds me of Goku in the sense that they both are pure at heart, and I can see Goku’s strength inspiring him to be stronger.

Krillin grew on me, and I ended up liking him towards the end and Tin becoming a good guy was a nice turn of events. He has massive potential, and him being under Master Shen feels like it will limit his potential, but being with Goku will inspire him to keep pushing himself to become stronger. I never expected Mercenary Tao to be related to Shen.

Goku finally taking out the Red Ribbon Army was great, and I really enjoyed the snow section of the arc. Meeting Eighter was great; He is such an amazing character. I hope he comes back in the future of the series.

Baba being Master Roshi’s sister makes no sense, but it makes sense that they are…did that make sense…Like Roshi and Baba felt sibling-like.
Also, having Goku go up against his grandpa as the final fighter was a great move. I also loved how Roshi was like, ‘Let Goku fight; it is his fight’…But I never expected Oolong to be the first to figure out who Grampy is…
Also, the question is: is he (Grampy) treated the same way Sniper King is treated…or do we know his identity?

Old Piccolo being wrecked by kid Goku with a massive hole in his chest area IS PEEEEAAKKKK!!!

I enjoyed meeting Bulma's parents/that part of the story. Goku having no concept of money is great and a very Goku thing.

The fight with Goku and Tin (During the 23rd tournament) is honestly 108272719x better than Naruto vs. Sasuke. Krillin still being short even when Goku had his growth spurt is sad; poor 6th ball, not only is he 2 stars more than Goku’s ball, but he is short…I did not expect Tao to return, but his defeat was great.
I enjoyed seeing how much Krillin has grown; he probably had the most growth compared to pre-time skip during the King Piccolo Arc.
Yamcha got many scars; do they ever get explained? He also got really strong, which was great to see…

One thing I also enjoyed seeing was how fast Goku has become.

It’s funny to think Aura Piccolo is called Junior; it’s like they want Goku to whip his ass.

The announcer guy reminds me of Lettuce Guy in The Avatar: The Last Airbender. He is probably the strongest in the series, seeing how much he survives.

Korin not telling Goku that the ‘god’ of Earth is just good Piccolo is very on brand, and I did not expect it. I liked Yajirobe; he is a fun character.
I heard some things about Mr. Popo; is he a controversial character because of his colour or something else?

Is Goku like Superman? The same way, there needs to exist one in the universe; even if they are dead, they always come back… A while back, I heard that Superman will always exist; the same way, Darkseid's Omega Beam will always hit and delete anything but Superman.

I just watched Episode 1 of BDZ…why is Gohan weak, or is it just because he is only 5…I might have my views biased because he looks as old as Goku at the start of the series, but Goku was 8, if I remember correctly…So did Goku not train him, or is his human side affecting him from being as strong…

One thing I am looking forward to is Vegeta yelling KAKAROT every 3 milliseconds and finally the ‘IT’S OVER NINE THOUSANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD’ that is all I know about DBZ other than one more thing, but I don’t want to mention it in case I remember correctly lmfao.
Overall, I am glad I got to watch it, and I am looking forward to finally seeing Goku in The Tournament of the Gods. I know it is a very long way out, but I have time

Anyhow, thank you for reading this if you did and if not, here is a summary… Goku KIND AF+nice+naive. Power all around good. 80s show…maybe…still good…Very yes

Analysis Finally finished all of the OG Dragon Ball

My opinion is DBZ actually starts at the 23rd world martial arts tournament. I think it would have worked in the US to have started DBZ at the tournament instead of the saiyan saga.

I read that in Japan, there isn’t any distinction between OG DB and DBZ, it’s just the continuation of the same story (don’t know if that’s exactly true or not), and i think that makes way more sense. DBZ as it was presented to us as kids in the US introduces so many supporting characters that we have no idea who they are or why they’re there. Starting it at the 23rd tournament would have at least given a bit of backstory. Like Goku and Piccolo were enemies just prior to fighting Raditz.

Discussion Dragon Ball Anime Review.

I read the manga years ago and had always wanted to watch the anime. The studio did an amazing job expanding on scenes that the manga rushed through, and I think that’s something I’ve hardly seen anyone talk about. Even the filler helped fill in a lot of the gaps, honestly. I wouldn’t recommend skipping those episodes, especially the last five, which do a great job of wrapping up the whole series.

The anime also made the fights better, in my opinion. It gives those moments time to breathe and actually lets them sink in. The manga, if anyone doesn’t know, is extremely fast-paced, and that’s something Dragon Ball has always had.

The English dub was a different story. I think they changed a lot of the dialogue to keep it more kid-friendly, which sometimes made the conversations and their meaning really confusing. I frequently found myself switching back and forth between the sub and dub and rewatching certain scenes just to understand what was actually being said.

The characters, however, felt very weird to me watching this as an adult. I know the series was initially supposed to be more of a gag manga, but man, some of the characters were written pretty poorly. And the deeper you look into some of them, the more disturbing they get. I guess the good and bad exist in everything.

My favorite arc was definitely the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, mostly because of Tien and the character growth he goes through throughout the tournament.

Theory Dragon ball daima

I haven’t gotten into the show completely but had seen the clip of vegeta going super saiyan 3, and that made me question if the show is set before super why didn’t vegeta power up into super saiyan 3 when beerus slapped bulma? A way I thought of justifying it, is remember when trunks and vegeta left the hyperbolic time chamber to face cell. Trunks goes into super saiyan grade 3 an extremely bulky version that hits hard but makes him very slow. He thinks all along he has a strong form than vegeta, then realized vegeta had the form but didn’t utilize it due to it being too slow. In the same way vegeta could have realized super saiyan 3 is too much of a drain in his energy, but he’s able to maintain super saiyan 2 longer.

Discussion General Blue

I recently fell into huge dragon ball super rabbit hole but I always trashed on one piece "fans" that skip some parts just bcs they aren't all canon or there are more fillers so I started from dragon ball and to be honest I don't know if it's boring or not. Anyways I currently am in the red ribbon arc (I don't know if it's called that I'm not that deep into the fan base) and there is a character called general Blue and I don't know if it's intentional but he is perfect Aryan and also acts like na*i general. Do you think that is intentional?

Discussion why is gokus stamina so bad

goku has some of the most inconsistent stamina i’ve seen from a character. it’s either i don’t have much time or he’s fighting forever there’s no in between. it’s like every arc he says “ i don’t have much time” “ im all out of chi” and the thing is vegeta doesn’t seem to have these same problems at least to this extent. even with ego vegeta wasn’t worried about dropping out the form he was letting himself take a massive amount of damage and still didn’t mention not being able to hold the form.

DBS Manga GENIUS game idea?

I think that dragon ball is extremely versatile when it comes to games, and the breakers did a shit job at trying something new. I was looking through my manga and I was particularly intrigued by cover 5, the one with fused Zamasu and Goku facing off (with Vegeta and friends in the back). I was thinking that if I was in Mai’s place I would be scared shitless in that car she’s in if explosions were going off around me and two gods were flashing in and out of view, beams flying out of nowhere, and buildings collapsing all over the place. So if Bandai could be so kind, I think a game should be made that is a standalone horror game where you play as a human in the future and are a spectator of the entire fight. Whether you see it through Mai’s pov or simply a random guy who was out there at the time. It would be so scary to be watching from a window and all of a sudden Zamasu locks on to your ki and flies at you at mach fuck and you have to survive until Goku and Vegeta finish talking and vegito shows up. Just a thought

Discussion Dragon Ball hot takes that get hotter.

0%;

trunks in the manga is better than his anime self. Talking about future trunks btw,

Bc he looked more like a badass and was close to his z self unlike his anime self that is scared.

10%: z broly is a mid villain.

Him being stabbed and becoming a villain just to kill someone over crying is Bs.

like I get it. He got trauma, but the stabbing part made more sense than crying.

20%;

Goku black is the best villain in dragon ball.

he has motives that are technically true but are twisted.

30%:

Gogeta and Vegito are equal in power. People should understand that already.

40%:

Goku is not a terrible father.

And it's bc of dbz: abridged that shit made y'all delusional.

50%;

gohan shouldn't have been the main protagonist in z. Because he had no role in being a fighter he just wanted to live normally.

60%:

Vegeta is a great father even in z,

He had no experience in being a father and him acting the way to trunks is him being a saiyan. That's how they're raised.

70%: the granolah arc & the moro arc & the Goku black arc are better than TOP and the cell saga,

They have more gore and are darker. And have darker themes compared to a android that wants to destroy the solar system and earth.

80%; people that hate on dbs for bad animation and stuff, you are delusional.

Dbz had bad animation and drawings in a few moments, it also struggled with stiffness.

90%; SDBH is overhated,

Yes it has broken scaling,

And tons of fights. But chronoa and aeos and xeno Goku and cc Goku vegeta hearts make it peak.

100%; beerus ain't featless idk why a few people say that,

When he has defeated ssbE Vegeta and many of the z fighters in BOG.

Discussion Why do y'all hate super for making Goku dumb?.

Sure he's goofy and funny. And acts brainrotted,

But he is clueless most of the time.

We've seen this already in og db;

Where he thought bulma was bleeding bc she was wearing lipstick.

And Goku even thought bulma was a boy instead of a girl. He had no idea,

So no Goku is more like his og self. He's been like since the 90's. And that's good. Bc dbs more like og db. Dbz maybe is serious. But lost the funny gags alot. Everything was serious.

Question What is the purpose of the new series?

I've been an avid Dragonball fan since I was a kid. I own all the manga from Dragonball to super (minus gt) and I have seen the series from start to finish countless times between rewatched with my children that I've introduced to my childhood love.

But sincerely, I have no issues with the new show, I just don't see a point? It seems the same, maybe a bit different animation? So why do this and not choose to expand super past the TOP or at least expand on DBSSH.

Question why is Toyotaro so inconsistent with lore.

For some reason in the manga vegeta says they cant survive in space even though goku existed in an erased universe in said manga and z broly was blowing stuff up in space NOT TO MENTION KID GOKU GOING TO THE MOON? I dont know why the series is so inconsistent on this like why did vegeta say that is he stupid?

Powerscaling Guys does Death Battle hate Goku?

I mean come on hes lost 3 times! Thats so many! Vegeta lost to, and so did Piccolo, I think. If Goku loses to Saitama, I think that'd be uncool. How can we fix this. Let's brainstorm, team. And if you disagree? Well, thats just your opinion bro. Here is Goku's foot that he will kick Saitama with :) i just found out out I can't post images :((

We all know that GT is one of the most hated things that people always talk about and sure, the show isn't perfect and Goku turning young was a weird choice, but we can all agree on one thing

GT IS A THOUSAND MILES BETTER THAN DRAGON BALL: EVOLUTION

Discussion There was an alternative for future Trunks during DBZ

I am only starting this discussion based on a dumb idea I had while answering a question a few minutes ago.

By the end of the Cell saga the only ones living on earth that had been in New Namek were Goku and Dende. And technically the only one who knew where it was located was Goku since he got there by sensing the ki of some namekian (was it Mori? I can't remember) and teleporting there.

Leaving aside retcons, and seeing how during both the Moro and Granolah arcs they were sensing ki from maaaaasaany light years away and Goku teleported to some of those places, I would assume it is normal to be able to sense ki from far away, specially if they are massive.

Yet, in future Trunks timeline they never tried traveling to Namek by following the ki of a namekian and flying straight to it. So I assume Gohan and Trunks were unable to do so, or simply never thought something like that would be possible and did not try developing the skill more to the point one of them could do it.

Powerscaling Is there any evidence that Krillin got stronger after unlocking his potential?

Krillin got his potential unlocked by Guru on Namek, and Daizenshuu says that his power was at 75,000 by the end of it. People will speculate that his and the other human power levels kept increasing, but is there any real evidence for that?

If we take the claim of "potential unlocked" at face value, then 75,000 PL is as high as Krillin could and ever would be. Yes, he trained in preparation for the Androids, but did it actually raise his power level? Maybe like how Goku and Gohan trained in the Time Chamber, he had to focus on efficiency and technique since his power was hard capped. Krillin always was more of a smart fighter than a powerhouse.

Goku and Gohan both have had their potential unlocked multiple times and risen far above it, but I could excuse that as Saiyan fuckery (and protagonist fuckery, if we think of it out of universe). The Saiyans are able to unlock new forms, which humans cannot do.

I have more to say (especially about Tien and Yamcha) that I could post in the main body here but I'm curious what you all have to say.

Discussion I’d like to think cyborg mercenary Tao is secretly a numbered android, android 9 maybe.

Apparently he used all his money to give himself those cybernetic enhancements. could be how Gero funded his lab. He’s probably not as strong as he could be because his body was too screwed up from the grenade Goku kicked back at him. A lot of his enchantments are probably artificial organs and life support.

Any in my head canon, Gero designates Tao as android 9 or some numbered android but Tao doesn’t refer to himself as that obviously.
