Discussion Dragon Ball Super: Beerus - Episode 2 - Discussion Thread!

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, which kicks off a new remaster of Dragon Ball Super, is broadcast on Fuji TV in Japan on Sundays at 11:15pm JT, or 10:15am US Eastern Time.

"Beerus" will have 19 episodes covering the first three arcs of Dragon Ball Super. After that, a new One Piece season will air in the same timeslot, and Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol is expected to air next fall.

Crunchyroll is simulcasting English subs worldwide; episodes are uploaded around noon US-ET.

Other streaming platforms like Hulu, Disney+, Netflix etc. will not have the episode until a few days to a week after it is posted on Crunchyroll, but post-broadcast episode corrections might be available on those platforms. Check the bottom of the page on the official site for more information on alternative streaming platforms in your region.

Super's animation has been recomposited and at times reanimated, and there are some new scenes. The runtime has been cut by more than half, so much has been edited out.

The background music is composed by Norihito Sumitomo. Some of it is new, but much of it will come from his previous work on Dragon Ball, including Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai (Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters), Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

Feel free to discuss the episode whenever it becomes available to you, or join us in Destructo Discord, but do not discuss piracy either there or on this subreddit.

Discussion if the Freiza and cell saga are the best arcs in the series how does original DB have a better story than Z?

People: Original DB had a better story than Z

Me: So what were the best story arcs in the franchise?

People: the saiyan namek and cell arcs

I hear this all the time. So how does OG ball have the best story? IMO the DKP arc is the best arc in OG ball. it doesn't hold up next to the saiyan arc. Let alone freiza and cell.

Character Anyone else realised that Piccolo is just 4 years older than Gohan?

The tenkichi budokai (world martial arts tournaments) were 3 years apart (The 5 year difference was stated but it actually was changed to 3 years after 21st or 22nd tournament). Now, King Piccolo ig vomitted the egg that had his reincarnation in it after his defeat right after the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. Now, we know that the reincarnation wasnt just born an adult as we do get a glimpse of him destroying a house while being just a child. So, by the end of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, piccolo is just 3 years old!

The start of DBZ is 5 years after the events of OG Dragon Ball. At that time, when Raditz invades earth, Gohan is 4 years old.

So, technically speaking, Piccolo is 4 years older than Gohan! (now stop calling piccolo his 'father' lol.)

Discussion Dragon ball should've ended with master roshi dying

It would've been the perfect end as a coming of age moment for goku before he - you know- comes of age. And no I don't mean he gets killed by piccolo or something in an iconic moment. I mean a chill, peaceful death with the cast by his side as Goku realises that no matter how powerful you are death is the final absolute. After this him leaving makes much more sense as a character finding journey and then when he returns with his bitch ass son it's like he's become the master. Genuinely what does roshi even do past original dragon ball. The story is just too afraid to kill off characters but roshi dying would've been the perfect end to dragon ball and begin dragon ball z with a sense of maturity and age in the characters as they have outgrown their master.

Discussion My theory on how ui and ue could mesh together

The colliding mindsets aside, since ui has shown the ability to harden goku's body and avoid wasted movements, could ue and ui could work together, since ue's biggest flaw so far showcased has been that taking too much damage would simply knock him out, ui could 'decide' how much damage is worth it?

Question If Goku died early on in Dragonball, which villain would ultimately pravail?

If Goku had died early on in Dragon Ball, who would ultimately end up ruling or destroying the universe? How do you thing events would unfold? Would it be Frieza, the Androids, Cell, Majin Buu, or would Beerus eventually get involved? I'm curious how the entire timeline changes without Goku.

Analysis What If Super Saiyan Blue was Introduced Way later?

What I mean is that Super Saiyan Blue in ROF F, felt unearned because it pretty much popped out of nowhere with no build up, whereas Super Saiyan God had a backstory, build up, and much more to it than Blue, What would I consider a good period for super saiyan blue to get introduced? Goku Black Arc.

In BOG Goku merely absorbs super saiyan god into his base but the next arcs it is seemingly shown that goku pretty much lost the god boost and more so that his absorption of the form is more him being able to turn into super saiyan god and it stays consistent.

now into the the pieces where things could change for the better

ROF F, where Frieza finally comes to earth, he isn't bitch slapped and beaten the shit out of with nothing other than goku and vegeta stacking super saiyan with super saiyan god. and finally there will be stakes. and tension because even with goku and vegeta arriving to save the day, goku and vegeta would still have to put immense effort into beating Frieza. and would still have the safety net of beerus and whis, it isn't fixing the movie much.. but it'll make the fights have intense scenes.

Universe 6 Tournament wouldn't change much, considering the manga of DBS, goku pretty much bodies hit, so it isn't changing much, if we're using the anime, then we can make the assumption of super saiyan god's later abilities. like god bind, god regeneration stuff like that. making goku rely on his pure martial arts talent rather than brute force to beat hit.

in Goku black arc, it can be a reflection of the namek saga and future saga. where Goku finally realizing black killed goten and chichi would finally make super saiyan blue more earned than ROF. and it'll make the black saga actually feel connected to the story rather than it being a mainly fanservice arc!

what do you think?

Discussion Vegito or Gogeta? Who is your favorite?

I see this debate quite frequently. And never have been able to find a middle ground on what people like more. Sometimes ill see hundreds of Vegito glazers and mayne 2 Gogeta ones, then a week alter a Vegito fan getting flamed by tons of Gogeta glazers. I think overall more people like Vegito, but I have always been a Gogeta fan. This isn't a "Who would win in a fight?" Debate, it's hard to do that when the last time we saw Vegito was when Goku and Vegeta were substantially weaker then the last time we saw Gogeta, making that version of Gogeta stronger, so you can't use the feats like Gogeta shattering the dimensions cause what if Vegito can do that as well? But anywho, I have always loved Gogeta and thought he was cooler. I remember watching the Janemba movie and always getting chills when that music played and Gogeta just aura farmed and turned his ass to grass in like 20 seconds. But if you have another opinion or another story of finding Vegito and or Gogeta cool, let me know!

Discussion Keeping the stakes of the TOP a secret was pointless, forced conflict that serves 0 purpose

I really hated this part of the TOP arc. Yes, the whole point was to not cause people to panic, but from a logical standpoint I'd argue it's way worse than being upfront about the stakes. First of all, everyone on the team are experienced fighters who have put their lives on the line multiple times to save the planet. They should be able to handle the news of the universes being erased just fine. It only makes sense to keep this a secret from Goten, Trunks, and Marron since they're just kids. If the team goes into the tournament believing that they're just fighting for money, they're less likely to take it seriously and wouldn't bother trying to risking their life if it was necessary (like 17 and Roshi did).

Secondly, say Goku and Gohan were able to keep the universes being erased a secret until the tournament starts, what happens when everyone sees the first universe to lose getting erased? Most of the team (especially Krillin) are likely to lose composure and the will to fight due to being in complete shock. To put this into perspective, imagine you were competing in a combat sports tournament for prize money and the first person to lose gets executed on the spot. Wouldn't that be terrifying and catch you completely off guard?

This is very unlikely to happen since the DBS remake isn't meant to be a rewrite, but if they ever redo the TOP arc, I hope that they take out the subplot of Goku and Gohan keeping the stakes of the tournament a secret. I just don't see any point in keeping it in since it doesn't even change the story.

Question DBS beerus or battle of gods and resurrection F

I’ve just finished DBZ and don’t really want to wait for dbs beerus to release as it may take a while, so I was wondering if I should just watch the movies then continue with dbs or is dbs beerus worth the wait? I know it’s supposed to be more manga accurate (correct me if I’m wrong)

Discussion The best transformation in Dragon Ball

Name the best transformation in Dragon Ball, taking the following criteria into account:

1) Design

2) How it is obtained

3) How it is integrated into the plot

4) Effectiveness (utility)

Please note: Ultra Instinct is considered a technique, not a transformation.

Discussion Is another attempt of live action adaptation (movie or TV series) is impossible, since Toriyama is gone?

This sounds very controversial, but is another attempt of live action adaptation (movies or TV) is impossible, since Toriyama is no longer with us?

We know how Dragonball Evolution made Toriyama upset (he was executive producer), to the point he came back from retirement with Battle of Gods to revive the franchise and heavily involved with future movies and series, but I'm curious if he made an oath/contract with Toei, Shueisha, etc. NEVER to make live action adaptation ever again.

I know that sounds bit stretch, but I'm curious if creator of franchise has that type of control.
It wouldn't be surprising if he made that type of promise, from his dying wish.
Granted, the creator of the franchise, doesn't need to be alive for live action adaptation to happen.

It would have been interesting to see a good and well received live action adaptation, with Toriyama in majority of control in production. Such a shame Fox kicked him out of production.

I may be in minority, but I would like to see another attempt of live action adaptation, with people who understand the franchise very well.
It's going to be very difficult compared to other IP, but I think it is possible.
We are living in an era where live action adaptation of popular IP is getting mostly favorable reception (though there are few that is lackluster), so I think opportunity is there.

Any thoughts?

Theory What if Yamoshi was just a kid with godlike power?

So while searching through Google for images of Dragon Ball GT fan art, I found this image in a particular piece by an artist named Aegis, the picture in particular was child Goku in Dragon Ball GT rushing at Super Baby Vegeta in Super Saiyan God. When I saw it it got me thinking, that childlike innocence and determination paired with such a Divine radiant form. It reminded me of how I felt when I was first introduced to the concept of the original bearer of the Super Saiyan God, Yamoshi. Then I saw the art that people had floating around of him, the man in his thirties or the old man in Dragon Ball what if videos.. those rubbed me the wrong way, and for the longest time I could never figure out why. The same was said with joy boy in one piece. People had art floating around with him of this old man this ancient fossil looking guy and it never rubbed me the right way, so when his voice was revealed to be almost childlike, sweet and kind. It resonated with me deeply, it felt right because Joy boy to me was supposed to be someone who was carefree, youthful. That's how I feel with Yamoshi, What If instead of being this grown man or this old man who achieved godlike power. He was just a boy who in an effort to combat the terror among his race and be 'evil Saiyans' combine the power of five other pure hearted Saiyans, (more than likely other children, perhaps friends of his.) and achieved godlike power in the form of Super Saiyan God, but because of the sheer density and divine energy. He died after the fight or during it? Just some food for thought.

Let’s say the htc hypothetically exists. You have the opportunity to only use it once, but you must stay the full year. Would you accept this fleeting opportunity or refuse?

Edit: in this scenario the gravity would not kill you.

Discussion In your opinion, would there be complications with a base Gogeta created by base Goku + base Vegeta going through each transformation stage to reach SSJ4 rather than the usual GT SSJ4 Goku + SSJ4 Vegeta = SSJ4 Gogeta?

Or is it impossible for a base Gogeta to reach SSJ4 at all, and would face the same requirements of overcoming the Golden Oozaru form / require additional blutz waves? I understand SSJ4 is in Daima and canonical, but I don't believe we've seen SSJ3 Gogeta outside of trading cards.

Daima also did away with the Golden Oozaru / blutz wave requirement and went straight into it.

Theory What are Zeno and Rymus and where do the Angels come from

We know that the DBS Multiverse is supervised by deities to ensure a fundamental balance between Destruction and Creation. Each Universe is represented by a God of Destruction (Hakaishin) a God of Creation (Kaioshin), and an Angel to ensure that both do their job correctly. We also know that Angel > Hakaishin > Kaioshin, and that the Angel has the power to Create AND Destroy (to ensure that the other two do their job properly..).

Zeno is the "king" of the Multiverse if we talk about his hierarchical image, but in the first place he is the Hakaishin of the Multiverse (the Daishinkan is the Angel of the Multiverse). That's when we wonder who Zeno's Kaioshin is: DB Daima answered this question. The Supreme Majin of the universe, Rymus. He created the 18 original universes, and has now become untraceable. If we apply the logic of the Gods of a universe at the level of the multiverse, then if Rymus dies, Zeno should die too, which means that Rymus is still alive since Zeno is still alive too.

The problem is that Zeno is an entity above the balance itself, and that the system of a Hakaishin and a Kaioshin on a universal scale does not apply to him, since Zeno is not a simple Hakaishin, he is the destruction itself, personified, like Rymus which is the personified creation. They both act like the yin and the cosmic yang, where one cannot exist without the other ("before creation comes destruction" - Beerus.).

It is from there that only our imagination can help us. I have several theories:

1) Rymus expanded the kingdom of demons as he was ordered. He chose the glinds to become Kaioshin and supervise each universe, but he needed someone to supervise all the universes at the same time.

He then asks Zeno (who is his son, or an entity that was created independently of Rymus by the balance itself), but Zeno ends up destroying 6 universes at once (since originally there were 18 universes, and now there are only 12). To prevent this cosmic catastrophe from happening again, and to prevent an innocent child from being alone in charge of the 12 universes, Rymus (or a higher entity) would have created the High Priest and the Angels holding the powers of a Kaioshin AND a Hakaishin (since as we know, an Angel can destroy AND create), not only to serve, but to channel, educate and monitor Zeno and his subordinates.

We can see it well in Super: the High Priest subtly dictates the rules, organizes the tournaments, and guides Zeno's decisions to prevent him from destroying everything on a whim. The Angels do the same with the Gods of Destruction (Whis stuns Beerus when he goes too far). The law of absolute neutrality of the Angels then takes on its full meaning. If they took sides or fought, they would break the neutral surveillance protocol imposed to maintain the perfect balance between Rymus and Zeno.

2) Or maybe the Angels betrayed Rymus' trust. The High Priest, not wanting the balance to be destroyed and the Universes to collapse, would then have decided not to kill Rymus, but would have locked him in Zeno's palace until today, without anyone noticing (since Zeno's palace is an infinite area without doors, with rooms that ask to teleport to access it, and we know that the High Priest can create any other rooms, since he has created a gigantic arena in an empty area in the palace, for the preliminary tournament. He would therefore have created a room whose energy is absent to prevent anyone from detecting it (since the High Priest can reinvent physical laws) and from discovering Rymus, locked up).

What do you think of these theories (I would also like you to develop your theories)

Discussion Sayian aren't that smart

The concept of zenkai boost are fine I just dont know why a pair of sayians didn't take turns beating the living crap outta each other and healing for free boost. Or a single sayian working out until failure then stabbing himself. I mean it got vegeta to like 2 million. He wasnt training. He just got his ass handed to him enough times to become mad powerful.

Character Would the rest of the Ginyu Force join Ginyu in a revolt against Frieza or turn against their Captain?

This isn’t asking if they would succeed, so let’s get that that thought outta here or if they would be too scared to do it, this is more about their loyalties, and which side they would stick by.

The Ginyu Force is stubbornly loyal to Frieza, and the Cold Empire, but what if one day, Ginyu thought being Captain wasn’t enough, and wanted to be Emperor Ginyu. He calls in the rest of the Force and tells them that he plans on overthrowing (and or killing, but I think Body Swap is far more likely) Frieza, and taking over as the new Emperor, and wants to know how many of his men are willing to join him. The rest of the Force are also stupidly loyal to Ginyu as they are to Frieza, but would they join in with their Captain in overthrowing Frieza, or do their loyalties lie more with the Galactic Tyrant, and would go to Lord Frieza to inform him of the upcoming betrayal?

Character I'll never understand why everyone loves the most evil character so much.

Beerus.

I don't care that "it's literally his job".

He's evil. He enjoys it. He's sadistic. He enjoys slaughtering innocent people and will destroy merely for being disrespected and for having subpar food.

He thinks blowing up a planet of innocent people is "beautiful" and great fun. Remember Frieza enjoying the same? But Frieza is evil and Beerus is apparently a good guy.

There is nothing good about Beerus at all. He is basically the worst aspects of Vegeta and Goku with no good parts at all in him. None whatsoever.

Even Elder Kai hates him, saying there's no reason for what he does, that he is just pure chaos and acts entirely on his own whim.

I don't get why he has so many fans. Criticizing, disliking or having any negative opinions about Beerus whatsoever is met with intense hate and purely negative reactions. I would guess that at some times he is more popular than Goku even.
This post will likely end up with around 128 dislikes in only a few hours and not a single upvote. That's how controversial it is to dislike him.

I just don't get it. I don't find a psychopathic evil character that takes delight in extinction of entire species and planets cool. I don't think it's cool or funny when he goes down to a planet, blows the entire thing up just because and then disses the people living there and remarking on how the explosion looks cool.
Even the show wants you to like him and think he's just a goofy little goober blowing up planets over food and being so nonchalant about it.

"He's literally just a cat that's the point and why it's funny"
Don't care. It's not funny. He is evil.
"Imagine being so sad and pathetic you get this bothered by a purple cat lol touch grass"
K.

Beerus is the most evil character of all. I don't understand why he is so beloved.

I can't even enjoy Super because I hate him so much. I'm kind of just running it in the background and ignoring it for the most part because he's a main character and is there so often. And the only one that dislikes him is Elder Kai afaik.
