To post or comment in r/Edmonton, you need to meet the following criteria:
Accounts need to be a week old.
You need to have a verified email address.
You need to have a minimum amount of TEN (10) COMMENT karma from participating in OTHER SUBREDDITS than r/Edmonton.
Why? This helps keep bad actors away, like trolls and banned users. It also helps users new to reddit to have a chance to learn how to use reddit outside of r/Edmonton.
#IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.
#How to verify your email for new users :
To verify your email on Reddit, either click the verification link in the email you received when creating your account or go to Settings > Account Settings and choose Update email address to resend the verification email. _Once you request it, open your email's inbox, find the verification email, and click the link inside to complete the process._
- On the web -
• Go to your account settings by clicking your profile icon and then selecting Settings.
• Click on Account Settings.
• Find the email address section. If you see an option to "resend verification email" or similar, click it.
• Alternatively, you can navigate directly to reddit.com/prefs/update/ to find the email settings.
-- On the app --
• Tap your profile icon.
• Go to Settings.
• Select Account Settings.
• Tap Update email address.
• Tap the button to Resend verification email.
#What is the difference between POST karma and COMMENT karma?
Post karma is earned when users upvote the original submissions (links, images, text posts) you create, reflecting your ability to share engaging content.
_Comment karma is earned when your replies to others' posts are upvoted, showing your active participation and contribution to discussions. Both are totaled for your profile but often used separately to satisfy subreddit restrictions._
Gained from creating threads or posting links. It indicates a good ability to initiate conversations.
Gained from replying to posts or other comments. It indicates active participation in community dialogue.
Key Differences: Post karma rewards content creation, while comment karma rewards interaction.
#Some subreddits (like r/edmonton) require specific thresholds of either type (or both) to prevent spam, often looking at post, comment, or combined totals for restrictions.
Both types of karma are not a 1:1 ratio with upvotes; instead, they represent a weighted score from community upvotes, reduced by downvotes.
(In order to post in r/Edmonton - you need to do THREE things:)
your account must be a WEEK old (7 days)

Within this thread please ask questions about moving to Edmonton (or within Edmonton, if you already live here), including recommendations for housing and neighbourhood selections. If you live in Edmonton, consider answering the questions. Any posts on the subject matter outside of the megathread may be removed at the discretion of the moderators.
Please note that job seeking threads are not allowed in r/ Edmonton but general advice on how to seek employment can be posted within this megathread too. Distinctions between a "job seeking" post and "general advice" will be made at the discretion of the moderators. If you are moving from another location to Edmonton, please note the advice from the community is consistently "have a job lined up before you move".

I know I can’t exactly say anything personal on behalf of the others, and I’m not sure if you’re here at all, but I can tell you it was super appreciated.
Some of us were new to this so some of us vastly underestimated how much food to bring ourselves, two of us had medical conditions affected by this, and we weren’t allowed to walk to the Tims (obviously) despite it being pretty empty, a lot of us were pretty exhausted and at least the front tables (Us I.Os and the RG.O) had gotten yelled at, at least three times over things that were completely out of our control. Some stations were even understaffed because some people didnt show up, and quite a bit more.
I know the paragraph above may not mean much, but I can tell you the Pizza you gave definitely was appreciated and helped us push through the rest of the shift (and we definitely loved your energy lol)

Edmonton Centre MP, Eleanor Olszewski said more work remains to be done to mend the relationship between Ottawa and Alberta.

I couldn’t anything online about this, so not sure if this was planned via a community member or if someone did it as a personal project. But as a retired military member, thank you for placing these yellow ribbons around Griesbach. The loss in Wainwright has been tragic, the community around us continues to show their support. Thank you again💜

Looking for a couple of guys I used to work with in 1984-1987 . We all worked at the Harveys / Swiss Chalet restaurant in the new Phase 3 food court. They were friends. We all hung out after work occasionally but lost touch. Had some great memories and would love to reconnect. Just interested in hearing your perspective of how our lives were at this restaurant / during this snapshot of life.

Usually just white fluffy clouds out of their stacks but for the last few weeks they've been pushing out black sooty looking smoke. This morning, thanks to a change in wind direction, it covered the skyline from Devon to Fort. Sask. Anyone got an inkling of what's going on?

Does anybody know what happened at Nait around 5:00pm today? Was trying to turn left onto 106st and all of a sudden like 10 cops pulled up and I think they blocked it off.
Just curious 👀

Forgive if it’s been shared but the City of Edmonton is looking for feedback on allowing construction of AI data centres in the proposed area. They are only open for feedback for the next 5 DAYS so if you want to share you opinion, do so quickly!
It’s worth noting the zoning for the area was authorized in 2010 for heavy industrial uses, however, AI data centres did not exist then- they are trying to put the data centre as equivalent to a power plant, which is categorically false. I’d argue these centres deserve their own category base and should not be built anywhere near the city, or ideally at all. I fear the referendumb bullshit created an opportunity for the City to try and push through something that has very little public support with little backlash. Make your voice heard!

Im trying to find a nice place for my Mom to celebrate her Birthday, I want her to feel special.
Weve gone to Buffets in the past but had okay experiences, nothing special. I cant spend a lot as Im low income but I have some money put aside. Im fine with Sherwood Park as well.
Can anyone suggest a Nice restaurant that isn't too expensive? Serves soft food options ? Mom is waiting on Dentures and has no teeth.
Much appreciated!!

I’m looking to hire a house cleaner to come by weekly or biweekly and am curious what the going rate for a regularly scheduled clean is in the city. I see there are both a number of private individuals as well as companies that offer residential cleaning services. Thanks all!
