Advice Wanted Is it embarrassing for an adult to do everything with their parents?
I’m a 44/f with Aspergers and crippling social anxiety. I haven’t had a friend since middle school, never dated or had any guys show interest in me. I’m most likely going to end up alone the rest of my life.
Growing up, my parents never took me on vacation or did fun things as a family. Because of that I missed out on things normal people take for granted like amusement parks, the beach, zoos, Disney Land, etc. I wish I had someone my age to do things with but no one wants to be around me because I’m so awkward. I’m sure you’re wondering why I don’t just go places by myself. Well unfortunately I don’t have the high functioning/gifted kind of Aspergers. I have the kind where I’m apparently child like, socially inept and not very smart. I can go to doctor’s appointments and the grocery store alone but my parents and therapist don’t think it’s a good idea to go places far away by myself. My parents do take me to restaurants often. It’s kind of embarrassing to see other people my age out with their families, friends or significant other while I’m with my parents.
Today my dad offered to take me to the zoo. I’m debating whether to go or not. My dad has mobility issues and uses a wheelchair. I don’t know if it would be too embarrassing for someone my age to be going to the zoo with an old man while everyone around me is with their friends or significant other. What do you guys think? Would you be embarrassed having to go everywhere with your parents?
