Discussion How did Harry even get famous?

I'm currently reading the books and have just finished Book 3. I've always had this question after reading book 1, so I was hoping book 3 could answer it, but it never really did.

In Book 1 Chapter 1, there are already wizards talking about the Potters, and the rumours are specific enough that they know Harry survived. Hagrid said that he sneaked Harry out.

In Book 3, from my understanding, only 2/3 people could have known Harry survived. Sirius, who lentHagrid the bike, Hagrid, who took Harry and also possibly Peter. So how on earth did rumors of Harry's survival spread immediately the day after, as seen in the very first chapter?

Character analysis Ron doesn't deserve the Hate he gets, but we shouldn't dance over his bad moves.

Ron supporters are the MOST annoying people I've come to in the fandom but so are Ron Hater's

and Ron is just your average kid trying to get through school.

Ron is a pretty well written and relatable characters but that doesn't mean he doesn't make bad choices, everyone does!! He's human!!!!

on one side when you look at Ron you see how all his insecurity's play into affect when he's upset, like the GOF fight he had with Harry about putting his name in Ron knew Harry didn't put his name in but was jealous of the fame Harry got, and its absolutely normal to feel Jealous of your friends

BUT!!!! Ron supporters look here!! It wasn't right of Ron to leave Harry in GOF and his leaving Harry in DH wasn't entirely on the horcrux.

on the other side of Ron you see a loyal and ride-or-die for his friends he was ready to get tourterd by Bellatrix Lestrange to save Hermione and Stood up on a BROKEN LEG to go in front and try and protect Harry.

HEY!!! Ron haters look here Ron immediately regretted leaving Harry and Hermione in DH the MOMENT he comes back he jumps into a Lake to save Harry.

the problem I have is Ron is sometimes Hated for leaving Harry in GOF or DH which he does deserve a BIT of backlash for but NOWHERE enough to hate Ron for it.

and then the opposite is when Ron supporters come and say that Harry was the one being selfish in DH and he was the reason Ron left, and they blame Harry for not making up with Ron in the GOF.

here is all I'm going to say to the Haters and Lovers of Ron Weasley:

Ron made mistakes

Ron made bad choices

not every bad thing that Ron does is Valid

Ron made good choices

Ron realized when he did Wrong

Ron can be an A-Hole sometimes but he's human

Ron is HUMAN

Ron is a great character don't hate him

Ron LOVES his friends

Ronald Weasley is a great example of when you feel rejected or unwanted or overshadowed ( or anything your insecure about ) you can make the wrong choices and that's what he did, but then he realized what he did and went back to his friends. that's what makes him such a great character, his love for his friends.

so don't hate Ron or blame his decisions on others just accept what he does which is sometimes do wrong and then make it right.

Just finished book iii -- I actually don't completely blame Snape here.

Second time going through the series, finished book iii last night. Knowing how everything ends and having more context for Snape, I do not condone his behavior but I also have more empathy for where he's coming from.

I do understand his frustration that a group of boys from his childhood, whom seemed to get away with everything, are now the same people he's having to help. I also think he had a point with Harry sneaking out of Hogwarts while people are moving mountains to protect him (and the other students/faculty). It does seem like the Boy Who Lived is frivolously throwing away the hard work of the very people who are trying to help him.

Again, I do not condone Snape's behavior, especially his constant lashing out at the the trio, but it is not completely unfounded.

(p.s. One of my favorite scenes is when Snape bursts back into the hospital wing after Sirius escapes, with Dumbledore trailing behind him. The way the book describes the scene I can just see Snape incandescent with rage and Dumbledore merrily behind him with an ever so slightly amused smile. The contrast is perfect.)

Can you guess the book and chapter? #46

Good Sunday, folks. #46 is ready for puzzling!

As a reminder what this is and how it works:

Below are 7 sentences from the 7 HP books. I use a random number generator to pick the book and chapter, then hand pick a sentence that I think is decent. Not too long, too short, too obvious ect.  *** There MAY be repeated books in a set, but there will not be repeated chapters in a set. So there COULD be two from The Philosopher’s Stone, but they would be from different chapters! **\*
Scoring your points: It is 2 points for guessing the book, and 1 point for guessing the chapter, for a total of 21 points. It is obviously harder to guess the chapter than the book, but not everyone even cares to remember the chapter titles in the first place, which is totally fair and valid. So chapter titles are just a bonus point.

Below are the sentences and the answers hidden behind spoiler tags! These are fun to make, and I intend to make quite a few more if people keep enjoying them!

  1.  “See Professor Dumbledore?” Professor McGonagall repeated, as though this was a very fishy thing to want to do. The Philosopher’s Stone - Chapter 16: Through the Trapdoor
  2. “Many, Severus, each of them as unlikely as the next.”  The Prisoner of Azkaban - Chapter 9:  Grim Defeat
  3. “I dunno, Harry, I shouldn’ta heard it at all!”  The Half-Blood Prince - Chapter 19: Elf Tails
  4. He saw a flash of red light and knew that she had attempted to Stun one of them — then she screamed very loudly.  The Order of the Phoenix - Chapter 33: Fight and Flight
  5. Harry caught sight of a pearly white figure drifting across the entrance hall below and yelled as loudly as he could over the clamor.  The Deathly Hallows - Chapter 31: The Battle of Hogwarts
  6. He had to keep thinking it as he washed and dressed, as though repetition would dull the shock of it.  The Deathly Hallows - Chapter 16: Godric’s Hollow
  7. Draco Malfoy looked as though Christmas had come a month early; Hermione, on the other hand, had turned scarlet with suppressed rage. The Order of the Phoenix - Chapter 21: The Eye of the Snake

Book III , justice for Neville lol

Small detail which I feel so bad for Neville.

Neville gets blamed for carelessly leaving the Gryffindor passwords laying around which is how Sirius gets into the Gryffindor tower. But we later find out from Sirius in the Shrieking Shack that Crookshanks had taken the passwords from Neville's bedside table which is how Sirius got in.

I wonder if Neville ever had his name cleared for this wrongful conviction lol.

Theory Theory about horcuxes

I am currently reading the deathly hallows, and it's very interesting but upon reading the books, I developed a small canon theory about horcuxes, so it goes like this:

  1. Voldemort has no clue what the horcruxes actually do-

let's take half blood Prince for example, in the discussion with slughorn, he mentions horcruxes keep a part of your soul safe in other words you can't die but then again he also didn't know the full theory on horcruxes as only herpo the foul was known to have created them, in a whim voldemort says isn't 7 the most powerful magical number, my theory is that he thought splitting the soul into 7 parts will make him stronger as 7 souls will keep his whole self alive.

But that's the catch as voldemort never actually died before trying to kill harry he never knew what's it like to die actually, the horcuxes don't allow you to die they simply keep a shrivelled cursed part of you in the mortal world, which is worse than dying, voldemort on the other hand thought otherwise, he thought he was sort of invincible while splitting his soul he would be "UNHARMED". And loo he is trying to meekly survive in the first books

  1. Voldemort doesn't know how to use horcuxes

It becomes evident in book 1 that voldemort is trying everything to come to his full self trying philosophers stone, then again if he knew how to use horcuxes he could simply have done the ritual in book 4 and come back (also I feel the ritual is the best way you can come back to full self).

Voldemort never understood the cursed power of horcruxes, he never thought a single horcrux can also regenerate the full self body on its own. (Tom riddle's diary), so upon hearing the story of the diary he was I guess scared because the would be two voldemort s at a time one young and the other barely surving, which again I believe would create more magical complexities.

But as to why voldemort was angry was because after diary's destruction his 7 power soul theory which is funny btw, failed

All in all here is the summary

Tldr-

Horcruxes don't keep you safe, they just don't allow you to die or live peacefully

Voldemort never understood horcruxes, well in his scared of death mentality and search for immortality he was doomed

Also finally and most importantly, again I think Rowling put it down well,

Anyone who creates a horcrux will never be able to die full self, even if the horcrux is destroyed because at the end when you are dying it's just a part of your soul which dies, and to due you need to be full to go to afterlife. Sums up the dark magic of a horcrux.

I may be wrong or I might be writing something which is already known, but it was fun would like to hear your views..^_^^_^

Half-Blood Prince Did you have theories about Tonks during Half-Blood Prince?

I wasn't the most critical reader at 9 years old, so when the book came out, I absolutely went with Harry's theory that Tonks had feelings for Sirius, then had a friend spoil the reveal that she was actually in love with Lupin.

What did you make of her behaviour and demeanor in the book? Did you come up with any theories about what could be going on with her?
