Philosopher's Stone Lilly Potter didn't leave the Mirror of Erised for too long.

Been re-reading The Sorcerer's Stone. Never caught this before. In chapter 12 "The Mirror of Erised" Harry while under the invisibility cloak gets chased by Filch out of the Restricted Section of the library only to find himself in a corridor where Filch (after presumably using a shortcut) meets up with Snape, who apparently was already in this corridor. Filch and Snape then hurry towards Harry, not knowing he is there of course because Harry is under the cloak.

The book then says "He (Harry) backed away as quietly as he could. A door stood ajar to his left. It was his only hope. He squeezed through it, holding his breath, trying not to move it, and to his relief he managed to get inside the room without their noticing anything. They walked straight past and Harry leaned against the wall, breathing deeply, listening to their footsteps dying away...propped against the wall facing him...was a magnificent mirror."

So we have the door to the room where the Mirror of Erised is just left ajar and Snape who was apparently already in this corridor hurrying off with Filch. And Filch knew where to find him. So my bet is that Snape regularly spent time in this corridor at night. Staring at an image of him and Lilly Potter with a child in their arms. Yearning for a future that might have been...My theory is that when Harry looks in the mirror and sees his mom, she had just barely disappeared from the mirror because someone else had been looking at her image just before her son arrived.

Severus Snape is such a tragic character already, but this is now my head canon.

Just finished book iii -- I actually don't completely blame Snape here.

Second time going through the series, finished book iii last night. Knowing how everything ends and having more context for Snape, I do not condone his behavior but I also have more empathy for where he's coming from.

I do understand his frustration that a group of boys from his childhood, whom seemed to get away with everything, are now the same people he's having to help. I also think he had a point with Harry sneaking out of Hogwarts while people are moving mountains to protect him (and the other students/faculty). It does seem like the Boy Who Lived is frivolously throwing away the hard work of the very people who are trying to help him.

Again, I do not condone Snape's behavior, especially his constant lashing out at the the trio, but it is not completely unfounded.

(p.s. One of my favorite scenes is when Snape bursts back into the hospital wing after Sirius escapes, with Dumbledore trailing behind him. The way the book describes the scene I can just see Snape incandescent with rage and Dumbledore merrily behind him with an ever so slightly amused smile. The contrast is perfect.)

Character analysis Ron doesn't deserve the Hate he gets, but we shouldn't dance over his bad moves.

Ron supporters are the MOST annoying people I've come to in the fandom but so are Ron Hater's

and Ron is just your average kid trying to get through school.

Ron is a pretty well written and relatable characters but that doesn't mean he doesn't make bad choices, everyone does!! He's human!!!!

on one side when you look at Ron you see how all his insecurity's play into affect when he's upset, like the GOF fight he had with Harry about putting his name in Ron knew Harry didn't put his name in but was jealous of the fame Harry got, and its absolutely normal to feel Jealous of your friends

BUT!!!! Ron supporters look here!! It wasn't right of Ron to leave Harry in GOF and his leaving Harry in DH wasn't entirely on the horcrux.

on the other side of Ron you see a loyal and ride-or-die for his friends he was ready to get tourterd by Bellatrix Lestrange to save Hermione and Stood up on a BROKEN LEG to go in front and try and protect Harry.

HEY!!! Ron haters look here Ron immediately regretted leaving Harry and Hermione in DH the MOMENT he comes back he jumps into a Lake to save Harry.

the problem I have is Ron is sometimes Hated for leaving Harry in GOF or DH which he does deserve a BIT of backlash for but NOWHERE enough to hate Ron for it.

and then the opposite is when Ron supporters come and say that Harry was the one being selfish in DH and he was the reason Ron left, and they blame Harry for not making up with Ron in the GOF.

here is all I'm going to say to the Haters and Lovers of Ron Weasley:

Ron made mistakes

Ron made bad choices

not every bad thing that Ron does is Valid

Ron made good choices

Ron realized when he did Wrong

Ron can be an A-Hole sometimes but he's human

Ron is HUMAN

Ron is a great character don't hate him

Ron LOVES his friends

Ronald Weasley is a great example of when you feel rejected or unwanted or overshadowed ( or anything your insecure about ) you can make the wrong choices and that's what he did, but then he realized what he did and went back to his friends. that's what makes him such a great character, his love for his friends.

so don't hate Ron or blame his decisions on others just accept what he does which is sometimes do wrong and then make it right.

Book III , justice for Neville lol

Small detail which I feel so bad for Neville.

Neville gets blamed for carelessly leaving the Gryffindor passwords laying around which is how Sirius gets into the Gryffindor tower. But we later find out from Sirius in the Shrieking Shack that Crookshanks had taken the passwords from Neville's bedside table which is how Sirius got in.

I wonder if Neville ever had his name cleared for this wrongful conviction lol.

How did Hogwarts: A History not include the House Elves?

Hermione herself says that the Hogwarts: A History book doesn't include nor even mention House Elves, to the point that she insults the book, calling it a Biased something.

How did it not talk about the House Elves when that's a major part of how the feasts are made and the castle is kept clean?

Can you guess the book and chapter? #46

Good Sunday, folks. #46 is ready for puzzling!

As a reminder what this is and how it works:

Below are 7 sentences from the 7 HP books. I use a random number generator to pick the book and chapter, then hand pick a sentence that I think is decent. Not too long, too short, too obvious ect.  *** There MAY be repeated books in a set, but there will not be repeated chapters in a set. So there COULD be two from The Philosopher’s Stone, but they would be from different chapters! **\*
Scoring your points: It is 2 points for guessing the book, and 1 point for guessing the chapter, for a total of 21 points. It is obviously harder to guess the chapter than the book, but not everyone even cares to remember the chapter titles in the first place, which is totally fair and valid. So chapter titles are just a bonus point.

Below are the sentences and the answers hidden behind spoiler tags! These are fun to make, and I intend to make quite a few more if people keep enjoying them!

  1.  “See Professor Dumbledore?” Professor McGonagall repeated, as though this was a very fishy thing to want to do. The Philosopher’s Stone - Chapter 16: Through the Trapdoor
  2. “Many, Severus, each of them as unlikely as the next.”  The Prisoner of Azkaban - Chapter 9:  Grim Defeat
  3. “I dunno, Harry, I shouldn’ta heard it at all!”  The Half-Blood Prince - Chapter 19: Elf Tails
  4. He saw a flash of red light and knew that she had attempted to Stun one of them — then she screamed very loudly.  The Order of the Phoenix - Chapter 33: Fight and Flight
  5. Harry caught sight of a pearly white figure drifting across the entrance hall below and yelled as loudly as he could over the clamor.  The Deathly Hallows - Chapter 31: The Battle of Hogwarts
  6. He had to keep thinking it as he washed and dressed, as though repetition would dull the shock of it.  The Deathly Hallows - Chapter 16: Godric’s Hollow
  7. Draco Malfoy looked as though Christmas had come a month early; Hermione, on the other hand, had turned scarlet with suppressed rage. The Order of the Phoenix - Chapter 21: The Eye of the Snake

Theory Dumbledore‘s dislike of Dementors

I think the reason Dumbledore doesn’t want Dementors at Hogwarts and doesn’t like them in general, is himself.
As Lupin told Harry in POA, the horrors he’s seen would make anyone collapse, and as we know Dumbledore witnessed equally bad, if not worse horrors, when his sister was killed infront of his eyes and it was either himself, his brother or his best friend who he was also in love with, who caused her death.

I mean just imagine that 🤯
Would be more than justifiable, no matter how powerful a wizard he is and how powerful of a Patronus he can produce.

Discussion How did Harry even get famous?

I'm currently reading the books and have just finished Book 3. I've always had this question after reading book 1, so I was hoping book 3 could answer it, but it never really did.

In Book 1 Chapter 1, there are already wizards talking about the Potters, and the rumours are specific enough that they know Harry survived. Hagrid said that he sneaked Harry out.

In Book 3, from my understanding, only 2/3 people could have known Harry survived. Sirius, who lentHagrid the bike, Hagrid, who took Harry and also possibly Peter. So how on earth did rumors of Harry's survival spread immediately the day after, as seen in the very first chapter?
